Honestly portal 2 already had a pretty advanced version of source, so source 2 doesnt look too different. Although i do love the volumetric lighting.
This looks like a straight port with bloom cranked to 500%, also what's with the lack of reflections in most reflective objects like the cube dropper?
@@SnrubSource Lack of PBR materials I'm guessing. Portal 2 didn't have any physically based rendering in it, and it seems like the assets have been taken over directly to source 2
its a direct texture rip, with duct tape and spit holding it together for a cohesive experience. remember this is merely a tech demo of existing assets in the usual source 2 3D space. it would definitely look alot better in VR too. if youve ever played vr youd know
@@SnrubSource Porting levels in general just feels lazy and won't actually do much in terms of improvements. Remaking these levels in Source 2 completely with new assets and such, would make it more impressive. The only thing that looks interesting here is the new lighting.

It makes sense for everything to be bright in Aperture.
With how short-sighted all of their scientists were, they needed everything to be very visible.

Even a simple transfer of the Portal 2 level to Source 2 looks good, but I can’t imagine how all these levels will look if they are reworked for a powerful engine.

ApertureVR perfectly captures what Portal 2 is about. I really like it. Especially that dark final shot with GlaDOS, crystallizes the deep underlying reflection of the game.
Except that there's no portals or good story and chell dies
I was expecting this to look like one of those "Nintendo hire this man" things but it actually looks pretty decent and retains the artsyle nicely. Although I think the lighting can be just a bit too intense at points it's good for a fan made demonstration

@@Eggzboss It's a long running joke, someone made a Mario Demo inside of Unreal Engine, and people directly just went "Nintendo Hire This Man" when they saw how good it looked, the gameplay had nothing remotely mario-esque within it, just a realistic looking world with Mario Slapped in it
Speaking of source 1 feeling in source 2 again, at 8:35 grey walls, lighting, the sound made me immediately feel the isolation and loneliness feeling just like in Portal 1 and source games
The inclusion of a laser with the turrets was good.
the bloom + volumetric lighting got refined alot in comparison to the original engine, but i don't see any difference much because the objects and textures were exported from original Source engine
I think portal 2 for source 2 needs a well thought art design

I'm just now imagining a Valve-official Portal VR game. Can you imagine traversing Aperture with their improved animation and settings? It would be a very cinematic experience.
They were originally going to make vr portal instead of half-life alyx but iirc play testers found it too disorienting and nauseating.

I think it's safe to say alot of people including me, want half-life 1 and 2 including the 2 episodes and both portal games to be remastered in source 2 for all major platforms

@@piefish Black Mesa isn't Half-Life 1 dude, they're two completely different games. Please stop saying that and never say it again. That's like saying Doom 2016 is a good remaster of the original Doom 1. Sure, they share elements, and the overall plot is the same, but they are not the same game in the slightest.
@Spot The dutchie I kind of agree. It'd be really cool if it were done correctly, but Valve isn't the best with remastering old content. Just look at how poor of a state Counter-Strike: Source launched - even the current version still doesn't match up with Condition Zero's sound quality and playermodel count. Not to mention Half-Life: Source. But I would like a Quake-like in Source 2, would be interesting to see how the engine handles that sort of gameplay and if it'd work at all.

Also the button is grey so it's missing it's texture, or it's color isn't being reference wrong

It would be great if someone fully remade or ported the game to Source 2, it would look so good.
This has made me realize that we need a remaster of Portal 1 and 2. Maybe even a game that combines the two. Though I would love to see new mechanics too, even if it's a remake.

Everything just looks somewhat better, updated but in a way that's pretty enjoyable. Though GLaDOS could do with a little more grit and the lighting balance on the main control room is a little off.
The from scratch had some absolutely amazing textures and lighting. For a cleanly Aperture it looks great.
Source 2 all around looks really good. I don't want it in VR though cause I prefer mouse and keyboard.

If valve won't make portal 3 then they should at least make a remaster of portal 1 and 2, which are exactly the same as original but the only difference being that the graphics look better
One thing this port doesn’t take into consideration is higher quality textures and more polygons. With that I’m sure a source 2 version of portal would look stunning.

the only major difference that sticks out is the lower fov in the player camera. this could look exactly like the real game.

What people don't exactly understand is there is no cut line between Source 1 and 2. Source 2 IS Source 1 at its core. And they simple build upon it between each game release. Portal 2 already had an advance Source 1 engine for its time.
So not only would there be not much of a difference. But unless you actually recreated each assets to utilize Source 2 features, you won't see much of a difference.

There is a issue with portal 2 source 2( or portal in next gen Engine ) this vid did show that we can make a lot out of the new engine but there’s a flaw with in it as it’s not meant for a port and that has to do with the fact that source 2 isn’t good with fast objects. They sort of faze through things and portal is or can be a fast pace game from time to time, it would need a completely dedicated engine for next gen portal
I've seen Minecraft videos where lights are too bright and shadows too dark because of shader, so I feel your pain. Also, what's up with the opaque glass?
they are not rendering through portals at all its just an image but other than that and the messed up textures it looks great

the best part of source 2 is being to everything the last one could do but more efficiently, so i think the best way to port portal 2 to source 2 is to just start from scratch, as there is so much possible in the new engine that would just be unfeasible in the old one, but that kind if stuff would be weird and jarring if inserted into the regular source portal 2 maps and textures so you could either change nothing and keep the original charm, or put in the work to change everything and make a new charm

they need to rebuild Portal 2 for 64bit macs. Portal 2 was a 32bit app and doesn't work since macOS Catalina
The Triple Laser remake has good lighting but over uses bloom which makes it look bad

Overall, it doesn't look bad. The three lasers and the map after that in the video had some serious lighting issues, one being too bright and the other being too dark. With the Portal 1 port to Source 2, there seem to be some texture issues, especially with the weighted cube and glass. On top of that, the rooms visible in the portals seem to be just flat textures. Oh, and with Portal 2, I don't think I'm a fan of how the portals are placed and how they look.

I can guarantee you that Source 2 already has the code to handle animating a texture, pressing a button with physics ( which HL : Alyx already has ( buttons on walls ) ) and then animating / opening a door.
They would have just ported the assets and even then I bet that wouldn't have been too hard for someone knowledgeable in the source engine.

Given that the engine started with a port of a source game, I honestly suspect it wasn't all that much work initially, though no doubt the fine tuning may have taken quite some work.
In general : amazing, awesome, can't wait to see it all ported to the Source 2 engine one-day.

Really need to adjust the tone mapping and turn down the bloom. It should look clearer, not Vaseline on the lens.

Considering what they have so far, it's pretty impressive. Tis a shame porting both games to the new engine will essentially require rebuilding entire levels and redoing entire systems.
The only difference are the reflections, PBR, and volumetric lighting. Apart from that, everything looks as-is with the actual game. I suppose it makes sense for it look good already given Portal 2 and CS:GO were the last games Valve made in the FPS category before moving onto Dota 2 and HL:A with Source 2.
Long story short: CS:GO showcases the absolute gameplay/combat mechanics of Source 1 while Portal 2 showcases the graphical capabilities.
most of the assets and textures are exported from the old game so they would not magically change.
2011 one looked cleaner in my opinion
