    I like the nihilistic re-framing of castaways. Saying we are cast adrift in this enormous, senseless universe without any clear meaning or purpose probably wasn't what the kids show had in mind but it fits

    Hey! I just found this video, I didn't know you had uploaded a full song from the show.
    I was the live engineer from this show. I was listening back and was curious about if you had done a mix yourselves with the multitrack stems or if you ended up just using the L/R mix.
    I had a ton of fun working with you guys! Hopefully I'll see you around again sometime.

      i think what he meant is to when ur trying to keep a pocket a groove or time, u shouldnt sway around too much, but when the rhythm at hand in itself is that of a swaying motion, u sway with it to assist in adding to the vibe of swaying. Its not u shouldnt do it, but u should choose and when to do it consciously and in a way that is musical

    5:05 what exactly is the signal chain on that part? Are you doing bass to MIDI into the laptop, then into some sorta DAW or VST? Or are you doing bass to MIDI and into the Moog and using the laptop to change synth patches via USB?
    If you are converting the bass to MIDI what are you using?
    I love the sound, it reminds me of some of the guitar/synth tones that Ratatat use. Been chasing that sound since I heard it on Kid Cudi’s Man in the Moon.

    • @thejoetandy
      @thejoetandy 2 роки тому +4

      It's actually drum triggers, Ableton lets them change sections and have different samples play depending on where they are in the song.

    • @Spaghettaboutit
      @Spaghettaboutit 2 роки тому +1

      @@thejoetandy I’m talking about the sound that his bass is making - are you saying the drums triggered a switch in the bass’ effects chain?

    • @thejoetandy
      @thejoetandy 2 роки тому +6

      @@Spaghettaboutit I think they've said that the drummer handles a lot of the switching, yeah. But I think this is just pedal based synth, not through the DAW.

    Adam I love watching all your videos, so entertaining, educational and fun! I have great envy of musicians. In 1973 I was at school and picked up a trumpet played what I was told to play by my tutor perfectly. He then told me to get out of his class as he would have no left-handed players. Can you believe it? That was the end of my music and it took me 25 years to rediscover music and ended up picking up the Sax. Work wise I moved around doing jobs for which I had no passion. Now at 61 I desperately want to engage with the music scene again. Sure I listen to bands, watch you tube, I have Cubase, Band in a Box and a trio with whom I play with but I can't help feeling I could do more to imbed myself. It feels like a world I can never fully reach anymore. Sadly I still have to work 9-5 too! What are your thoughts on this sad old Brit??

    Doesn't it feel like replacing the leitmotif from Drunk, similar as it may be, with Castaways completely erases the original composition that Drunk was and turns it into Castaways: The Remix because it's now all that people focus on? I'm pondering the philosophy of it rather than criticising - it's what you want your music to do that matters.

  • @Dowlphin
    @Dowlphin 2 роки тому +10

    But were you actually drunk? 🤔 (You do look like it.)
    Do you have to be drunk or sober to play "Drunk" the way it is meant to be played? 🤔
    How about making a piece named "Sober" that you absolutely need to be sober to play properly and then play that drunk.
    Might give you ideas. (Unless that's a dangerous thing that should be kept at a minimum. 😄)

    • @Dowlphin
      @Dowlphin 2 роки тому +3

      Wow, it actually stayed on second try.
      The comment censorship is going nuts lately.
      (I'd have left for other platforms if I didn't expect to find tendentially unpleasant/disheartening company there.)
