Really love the rhythmic idea of the first two tracks. Playing 5/8 and 7/8 at high BPM and accenting so that it nearly sounds like a 6/8, like it's swinging... Only it's like a glitchy swing. Just sick.
@@MKclanX I had the absolute delight of watching Sungazer perform live recently, and yeah, if anyone likes this and there's a show nearby, they should absolutely go. Adam Neely and Shawn Crowder are both amazingly skilled musicians.
This EP is like that super cool and out there friend who shows up to your party, livens it up, and then leaves back into the night as fast as they came.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rick’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid
Although I am not a music virtuoso I find that the "flashy" style of your music is perfectly matched into this gut-moving well done grove. Nice work guys! Cheers from Berlin ✌️
Adam Neely is the true composer behind these masterpieces. Remember to give the guy the credit he deserves ;) (Or you might get some troubles with copyright.) - Just sayn. Nice, you've put it up though. Good idea! If anybody wants to see full walkthroughs of the music theory behind this, go check Adam Neely's channel.
No copyright issues since this is a fairly unknown band and Adam wouldn’t have a promblem with this considering its promoting them and giving viewers ease of listening to the whole album
@@ihH6053 Yeah that's understandable, still, giving credit to the original author is something in the creative commons, and it's our responsibility to properly credit different work of others
Sungazer's output seems to pick up where Hassell & Eno's Fourth World Vol. 2 left off, and my brain was already having trouble taking that as a form of music. If someone can truly appreciate anything like this, that's good for them, I suppose, but I simply can not. [I am not voting either up or down.] Still, Adam's explanations of music and related matters on his regular YT channel are interesting and worthwhile.
@@Mickyfitz96 He's giving actual reasons why he doesn't really like it so much, no need to be rude. I personally like it a lot but I can see why someone else wouldn't
@@_fluffyy1028 not liking it is one thing, i don’t like it that much myself. but he is saying that this gamer jazz goes beyond his conception of music. apparently this guy can’t even handle ambient music from the 80s. to me that’s very funny
I love the music, but: Everything sounds like 4/4 to me, even after watching Adam Neely's video on it. I feel especially frustrated when I try to count out 5 or 7 beats per measure for the pieces, and I can never do it. Please, can someone refer me to an online resource from which I can learn how to detect 7/8 and 5/8 rhythms? Thank you.
Advaith Harith Honestly, my friend, trying to count to this is like learning calculus without having taken Algebra. It makes sense you would have a lot of trouble starting to learn to count here. What I’d recommend is finding something more straight forward, something rock, something that really emphasizes those downbeats, and moving up to jazzier stuff like this. Try some Zeppelin or Rush or Yes or Queen or any of those bands (or more modern prog bands too, but those are a bit more technical to start) where you could easily tap along. I bet you’ll find some in strange time signatures that you can use to train your brain and then you’ll be able to move up to crazy stuff like this. Try Googling “Popular Songs in */* Time” and see what comes up!
@@PatrickHogan Thank you so much. I feel like listening to the more explicitly accented beats time signatures in popular rock songs kind of taught me what kinds of patterns befit a 5/8 or 7/8. Also, I listened to Adam's vid again in addition to ua-cam.com/video/bC6gbo3sZ_0/v-deo.html at 0.5 speed and heard the 5/8 (which I probably wouldn't have been able to identify since it is so fast). I can just about tap my fingers to the kick drum at 0.75 speed. But I'll work on it. Thanks again Patrick Hogan.
Hi everyone ! So, i've made a transcription of the bass part of Bird On The Wing by Sungazer, you can check it out right here : ua-cam.com/video/8Y18U5bR7dk/v-deo.html Hope you'll enjoy it !
As a drummer, I can confidently say that both Level One and I Walk Alone are 4/4. Level One features a half time section that feels like 6/8, but is in fact 4/4.
1) Sequence Start (0:00 - 1:33)
2) Dream of Mahjong (1:33 - 4:04)
3) Ether (4:04 - 6:25)
4) Level One (6:25 - 8:00)
5) I Walk Alone (feat. Justina Soto) (8:00 - 9:43)
Appreciated! Will update the description.
Thanks

To me, it feels like 4/4 with a quintuplet and septuplet grid feel.
Those are tuplets

As an extreme intellectual, polyrhythmic electro-jazz is the only music I can bear listening to. Thank you for continuing to stimulate my intellect.

I would play the shit out of this as a videogame
you mean if the music was put into a game

Dream of Mahjong is fucking amazing. one of the best tracks I ever heard!! Reminds me of my fav band Infected mushrooms

Absolutely amazing
Krtu san antonio. Heard the 1st track today. Had to come looking. I wasn't disappointed.
More than a intellectual album I hear it like a mystical one. This cover art its clearly a tecnototema 😝
