WHEN YOU OPEN THE BACK BOX TO GET TO THE CABLE IF YOU UN HOOK THE SPRING WHICH HOOKS TO THE SIDE OF THE DECK YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE BLADE TO RELEASE THE TENSION ON THE BELT THE DRIVE WILL JUST FLIP UP & DOWN AND YOU HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM TO FIT THE NEW CABLE THIS IS THE ADVANTAGE OF THE MOUNTFIELDS WITH THE REMOVABLE BOX. NOT LIKE SOME MAKES WHERE YOU HAVE TO WORK FROM UNDER THE DECK THIS CAN BE A REAL PAIN TO DO
Hi MowerMan, great videos. I have a Mountfield SP454 (2012) and I need to replace the drive cable. Unfortunately there isn't a box to remove underneath the stoneguard like on this 470. Any ideas on how to access the end of the cable attached to the drive unit? Do I have to take the drive unit off? Hopefully you will have the solution like you always seem to!!. Cheers.
Hi Mower man, great tutorial! I have a question ref the clutch cable, when putting the new cable in do you need to take the spring off or can you feed it through the hole in the pulley assembly that the little plastic Bush with the one way arrow flange on it?
Update. You do not pass the spring through the recess for the plastic boss. Instead you loop the cable and the spring over the arm of the pulley assembly and then seat the plastic boss into the recess.
Hello mower man;can you help please?I was trying to syphon the old engine oil from my mountfield SP164 using one of those transmission pumps - (it worked ok last time) I only managed to get about 0.2 litre out after loads of effort - I ran the engine for a minute before hand - should I have run it for longer?thanks

Hi I've just replaced the drive cable on a mower the same as in this video but there was a broken spring loose in the compartment I can just see it at 8.48 mins in the video upright on the left hand side next to the belt drive, can you help (maybe a photo) to locate the mounting points for the replacement spring.

Hey can I ask ref your cable, did you fit the new spring through the hole on the drive pulley or did you remove the spring from the new cable 1st?
