Thank you for all the great information. Always good to know that I’m not the only one who kills plants sometimes (not very often for you). I always think of it as new space for a new plant.
The A. jacklyn i also find more difficult and fuzzier then others. My "big" one (20cm leaf) threw a hissyfit out of the blue and just recovered in end of january. Now i have one jacklyn in each plantyspace to see how good i can keep it up! All in pure pon, mother grow light and different humiditylevels. So, i totally get you, Memo! Dont let them win!!😂
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 I have never gotten an import plant too scared too. Hope it goes well better for your next import.😀 have a great rest of your day. Thankyou.
A while back you asked for wishlist Begonia (or something like that😊). One I have been wanting for a very long time is the Begonia Luxurians. I really like big leaves & these plants almost remind of a huge umbrella plant except not really. The leaves are longer, thin & strappy looking. Thanks for the vids as always!!
Just got a begonia bipinnatifida. So far, it's doing well in a self-watering pot for african violets. This video makes me nervous for her. Hope yours thrives!
I’m at capacity so there aren’t many new plants coming in. The plants that failed were ones that didn’t appreciate pest treatments and those were usually the ones I transferred to semi-hydro that didn’t have great roots and didn’t receive really wonderful conditions. Those plants slowly declined. Of the ones that I wanted to keep, they live on through cuttings I rooted out in water before transferring to semi-hydro. Today, I take my time with transfers in general and have found the failure rate is much lower. But I’m not buying plants as challenging as yours. I do have some challenging plants but my ego has to keep those numbers down 😂
2024 was my first year with begonias - out of 6 water propagated cuttings (5 rexes and one brevirimosa), I killed 2 rexes soon after I potted them into finer pon - before I figured out their watering, they melted super fast away 😞 Breviromosa looked well, got about 5 leaves and then I gave her a support stick and in 3 days she fell apart. She tried to regrow, but didn´t make it. Losing the brevirimosa nearly made me cry - she is so hard to find her here 😞 However, the 3 remaining rexes made it thanks to self-watering pots and are doing really well even in winter and are in bloom now. So the survivors give me confidence to try again and give them self-watering pot immediately next time. I´m determined to find the brevirimosa again - I liked her so much. These were my sadest losses of this year.
I grew several from corms. Started in moss, ythen a small pot with moss then a 4" pot with small chunky mix with some earthworm castings. Humidity 60-70 temp 70-80 medium bright light . Ill have some corms in a month or so. I could post from usa... Lmk 26:21
I have a similar sized a. Jacklyn and it looks identical to yours. I am hoping it's just gone dormant as well. All my other alocasias are growing well.
I grow my Jacklyn like all my alocasias is pure fine/medium size pure perlite in vases with reservoirs using GT foliage focus and they are all thriving 😀 my cuculata has grown insanely in just 3 months! Wish I could attach pix
I tried my hand with a no ID orchid..I did fine for a month and then all of a sudden all of the leaves went yellow and fell off. I checked the roots and it was fine but the stems did not look well either so I got rid of it. I may try a similar orchid again as my other ones are hanging in there once it is spring.
I also sterilize all my potting medium in my oven including soil....eliminates all bugs and other issues we alo have from time to time m.that being said i lost 6 last lear. Sometimes sh.. happens.

Did you look at the Ph of the water, feed and planting medium?

My jacklyn has completely gone dormant & all leaves have faded , the corm is still good
Your first plant looks like a philodendron Longilobatum.

I managed to murder two plants of Begonia bipi. Still trying....😢
