    I have both the Lupinum and the Sabhastatum. And yes, they are both very slow and I did lose the red leaves when I put it on a mosspole. 😊

    🇦🇺It's 40c here and my shadehouse plants have their own air con & a misting system. The indoor ones have evaporative air con that raises the humidity by 30%. The plants are doing well but the owner is knackered keeping up with them all. 😂

    Hi Memo, I just got into houseplants a few weeks ago with some kind of a Thai constellation I got from a local store in November. Since it is absolutely thriving I started to follow some UA-camrs like you and even dared to purchase an Alocasia Frydek in Winter! I repotted it quite quickly into the Green Jungle Mix which I ordered on Amazon - and it is thriving! The plant absolutely loves it, no dropping leaves and I even get two to three new ones right now. All my other plants are also thriving - I give them light and warmth and feed them at least once a week with a Hesi fertilizer, which is a real gamechanger for me. I have to admit though that most of my plants are not real special or rare specimens but rather some normal house plants that one can get at better hardware store. Like Philodendron Birkin, P. campii, something that looks like a P. Tigertooth, a Prince of orange, some Syngoniums a Calathea orbifolia and presumably some kind of a marble Epipremnum, an Anthurium clarinervium and a P. adansonii and a Alocasia Tiny Dancer... Nothing too fancy, but they apparently seem to like my care and grow very nicely. If this stays this way I will try to get my hands on some rarer plants. Thank you for all the information I got from your channel! You are a huge inspiration for me!

    I was never into plants before. I appreciated them but ya know.. I have 9 plants right now (got almost all of them as a gift). Since they have been heavily neglected and I've been feeling sorry for them for a long time I decided to give them proper care. After couple of days of researching I realized I'm in an emergency since all of them are struggling like the ones you showed. Surprisingly, I got very hooked and now I'm looking for next plant to get. I also love your channel, it's super relatable! I'll probably end up binge watching 😂 Thanks for all the great info! Much love to you and your plants ❤🌱

    I've been using the indoor time to repot plants that have been needing it. I repotted a peace lily that my work sent to me when my Gran passed away in 2006. The mother plants took it well, but all the pups are struggling. The last time it got a refresh was >5 years ago.

    Even here in Florida, we have short days and it has been going into the 40s F at night, and now it is going to be in the upper 30s F at night. I cannot stand it!
    We all have struggling plants, but for the most part, most of mine are doing well in the house. I'm so disgusted with outdoor gardening, between the storms, the cold weather, wildlife, and pests.
    Little by little, I'm bringing lots of things inside and putting them into semi-hydro. They all are responding well to a mixture of perlite, small lava rock, a little leca, and some sphagnum.
    A friend just asked me if any of my plants were doing poorly and getting yellow leaves becasue of the winter, becasue that is what she is experiencing. I'm getting lots of growth, blooms, and transplants doing nicely. I attribute my current success to two major things, and a few minor things.
    One major is that I have most plants in one room and some aquariums. My humidity, without a humidifier, is between 50 F and 70 F, usually averaging between the high 50s and low 60s. The second major thing is that I have LEDs everywhere. The light is key during these short days.
    I also keep a fan on most of the time.
    I guess important, but not as much as the first two, is that I use nutrients with every watering, including silica, mycorrhizae, and a de-chlorinator.
    I also learned about making a homemade spray from Pretty in Green. I use 1 gal of water, 1 oz canola oil, Neem Azadirachtin 9 ml per quart, 1 ml Leaf Lux liquid, dash of dish soap, and a dash of Lemon Myrtle Essential Oil - which I learned from you I spray this often, on no particular schedule.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  3 дні тому +2

      Florida winters don’t sound fun either-40s and 30s at night? Yikes! 🥶 Your setup with semi-hydro, LEDs, and humidity from aquariums is so impressive-no wonder your plants are thriving! 🌿✨ And that homemade spray recipe sounds fantastic; I’m glad the lemon myrtle oil tip has been helpful! Keep up the amazing care, and here’s to more blooms and growth this winter! 💡💚

    I wish I had more natural lights for my plants but of the handful that do rely on the sun, are growing well despite it being as cold as 7 Celsius at night here where I live in SoCal. My windows are not well insulated but the plants are close to them. They are inside glass containers (usually vases with clear disks covering the top). I think the enclosures help to keep them warm and the humidity seems to be helpful. That’s the space where cuttings from plants with pests go.
    I have limited space for large plants so pesty ones are often started over to free up space and lighten the maintenance load. Often the new plants that come from the restarts, seem stronger.
    Acclimating them to lower humidity takes some patience but I need to learn how to be more patient so it’s fine.
    One of my favorite plants in a cabinet had spider mites, my Syngonium chiapense. I think I let the LECA dry out too much and that signaled to the spider mites that its defenses were down. Now I have what looks like bouquets of them so I’m appreciating them in a different setup for now. They were only on stakes but the roots growing out of the stem were pretty long and are showing signs they’re going to take off soon so I’ll have plenty to pot up and/or gift once I’m certain they’re pest-free. If the leaf remaining on each cutting continues to show signs of pests, I’ll take them back to nodes only.
    Restarting plants frees up much needed space and keeps maintenance manageable for me.
    Because the rest of my plants are reliant on grow lights, winter doesn’t matter a ton but many do seem to grow faster in the Spring (sometimes they grow faster than I can easily stay on top so I don’t mind the winter seasons here).

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  3 дні тому +1

      Wow, I loved reading this! 🤩 Your system with glass containers and enclosures is so clever-it’s like your plants have their own little greenhouses! 🌱💡 Restarting plants really does give them a second chance to thrive, and I agree, the new growth is often stronger. 💚 Your Syngonium chiapense sounds like it’s on the rebound-I hope it keeps bouncing back! Spider mites can be such a nightmare, but it sounds like you’ve got a solid plan in place. Keep up the amazing care, and thank you for sharing your process-it’s so inspiring! 🌿✨

    Theres one plant that always goes yellowish in winter… I then propagate it in spring (the leaves don’t die off they just go yellowish-green) and then it resprouts from the bottom in late spring/summer
    Its the Piper Argyrites, such a pretty plant, when spritzed the pink glitters
    I also know why, it always needs warmth and it gets just slightly too cold in its spot at night when the lights are off, but it survives and regrows every year so it no longer gives me stress
    Some go dormant in winter, thats fine.. 😐
    Some go vigorous in winter, thats great 😍
    The very few plants that don’t want to live here after several tries will go to the bin..
    So will cuttings.. I ain’t propagating unless its for friends who want something specific or for myself to make plants fuller… but no more propagating just because plants get too big or something broke off
    One of my goals for this year is to use the bin 😂
    Wishing you and your plants well

    I haven’t had that many problems until I purchased a Thaumatophyllum about 6 months ago after a few weeks the leaves started turning pale and curling into tubes. No signs of rot but did change the soil to something free draining in the process I broke off a stem with a small root repotted and hoped for the best months later it started to produce a new leaf whilst emerging it broke its own stem and half of the leaf is stuck in the cataophyll whilst all this was happening every thrip in a 30 mile radius decided to use the original Thaumato as a all you can eat buffet. Sorry i needed to get that off my chest. Love your videos.

    I've got a 5 foot tall Monstera albo, a 2.5 foot Amedrium medium silver, and a medium raphidophora tetrasperma that are all crisping at the end of their leaves. All my plants get the same fertilizer and no one else is crispy. My problem plants are all in self-watering with Pon. I've flushed them, made sure they've got at least 60% humidity, and I haven't stopped the browning. The Monstera & Amedrium are rooted in their moss poles and the Raphidophora has support sticks. It's starting at the tips and moving up the leaf and on the albo, doesn't care about variegation. So weird. Help! 💚

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  3 дні тому +1

      Wow, your collection sounds amazing! 🤩 Leaf crisping can be so frustrating, especially with self-watering setups. It sounds like you’ve tried so many smart fixes-humidity, flushing, moss poles-but sometimes plants just don’t behave how we expect! 🙃 The browning could be a nutrient buildup in the Pon or even underwatering if the wicks aren’t working as efficiently in winter. Keep tweaking-your care is incredible, and they’ll bounce back soon! 💚🌿

      Winter can be tough, especially for a first plant winter! 🌱 Your parlor palm and tristar stromanthe might need a little less water and maybe some humidity if they’re under grow lights. Currently I'm testing whether potassium bicarbonate really kills powdery mildew because there aren't many leaves left to cut off >.< No huge pest infestastion yet though. On the whole, everything is doing OK. There have been just a few dry air issues, so the humidifier is running more than usual, and that's having an effect on some plants that prefer the drier air. Trying to find a balance is a bit of a nightmare, but nothing is dying, so it is what it is. The philodendrons and hoyas are still growing nonstop and seem to be in denial of winter 😅 I'm always prepared to lose plants throughout the darker, colder months as everything is replaceable, so to just have issues and not deaths is a bonus. Good luck with the rest of winter, Memo 🫶🏻

      Thanks so much, Carey! 🫶🏻 Sounds like you’ve got a great system going despite the dry air-humidifiers can be such lifesavers! And I love your mindset-sometimes just having issues without any deaths feels like a win in winter! 🌿✨ Wishing you and your plants the best for the rest of the season! 🌱❄️

    I lost a few I didn’t care about over new year when I was very poorly and could only manage the bare minimum and I am ok with it 🤣

      Sometimes you just gotta let go and do the bare minimum! 😂 Glad you’re okay with the losses-spring will bring plenty of new growth to love! 🌱✨

    I found a few thrips on my sharoniae and spidermites on my mamei. And I personally hate winter with a passion

      Ugh, winter pests are the WORST! 😩 Thrips and spider mites just seem to love a stressed plant. Hang in there! 🌱💪 I’m with you on hating winter-it’s brutal for plant parents and plants alike! 🥶

    Most of my plants were doing ok, not a lot of growth but not struggling either😅
    But at the moment I'm really worried cause our heating broke 5 days ago and it's still not fixed. So it's about 12° inside the house, I hope they will survive😐
    I wonder if anyone can grow the Yellow Fusion succesfully😂Mine always got huge spider-mites infestations and died🤫I cut the last one down and put the stumps in a closed glass jar, until now it seems to work 😊🌿

      Oh no, broken heating in winter is a nightmare! 🥶 Hopefully your plants (and you!) make it through this cold spell. 🤞 And Yellow Fusions are SUCH divas-I swear they come with a spider-mite magnet built-in! 😂 It sounds like your glass jar trick is working though-fingers crossed for new growth! 🌿✨

    Oh Memo I feel your pain during this time of year, even more so as I live in the north east of England where sub zero temperatures are the norm 🙄
    However, I’m a little bit amazed not 1 alocasia made it onto your imminent death list, as mine are ( in typical alocasia fashion ) either thriving and on a non stop growth spurt or literally offing themselves at an alarming rate 🙄 literally nothing inbetween 🤦🏼‍♀️😂
    However, in better news, after a major spider mite outbreak your miracle Castile soap remedy worked an absolute dream!
    At the risk of sounding utterly dramatic and overboard ( I’m an alocasia girl remember, hysteria is what we do well 💁🏼‍♀️) I can’t tell you how ridiculously grateful I am to you and this magic spray, especially as I’ve never had spider mites on any of the 97 green divas that live with me.
    Im sure for other people they just deal with it and don’t have a meltdown, I however was on the cusp of sectioning myself due to my OTT drama fuelled hysterics 🤦🏼‍♀️😂
    So thank you for the advice and for saving me a trip to the comfy room with the snuggle jacket 😂🤪

    My Gloriosum is struggling to unfurl without damage. But I don't care. 😅 Got spider mites on my Tiny Dancers, I wasn't loving it anyway, so it's binned. The rest is doing pretty fine considering it's January.
