“By process of elimination they better all be here… or they escaped.” Made me laugh so hard. Ed is hilarious as always :)
The unforeseen consequence of giving so many garters such a big zoo space- it's even more difficult to find all the wiggly noodles! Lol
No kidding, I wonder if they found them all or are they going to realize that they have more snakes in that enclosure than they had originally put in there.
Not unforeseen at all. Honestly, planned.
Love the username
They're going to have to put out some baby-sized food items just in case. Do garters ever eat their own young?😨
I like your name so much and your little picture
Surprised for early bebes. Gotta say, they all must be so happy in their new homes if they are breeding like this.
Hopefully this is a good sign for the upcoming breeding season. They seem very happy at the zoo.
Ya
I know! I can’t wait! 😍

I can't wait
YES
It's so cool to see how an appropriate environment, even in captivity, enhances their behaviours and makes them happier (because I don't think they would breed and have babies at this point of the year if it wasn't because of happiness lol)
F
Y’all are my favorite, “yeah we’re down to 11 minutes,” proceeds to examine babies in detail 😂😂😂
Top comment! ( from when I’m seeing the video )
Wow, I've been trying to patiently wait for Baby Snake Season for the hatching videos, and here we have surprise babies! 🥰
Well you know that you did a good job on the enclosure and the Zoo feels like a safe place for the animals if they all are planning to have babies during winter lol
Charles is the primary Snake Discovery editor? If so, shout-out to Charles for always doing an awesome job!
When you and Ed were guessing how many babies I guessed 27 so then hearing your guesses of 12 and 13 I was like “wow, I’m pretty far off” So lots of love to the albino momma for bringing that number up and making my guess more accurate lol. And Woot baby hype!
I have no idea what’s in the incubator but I’m definitely excited to find out.
Question: do baby garter snakes have the “new baby smell” like snakes who hatch from eggs do?
@chubby ®🚬 begone bot! this is a child friendly channel

My daughter Charlotte absolutely loves your snake videos. She has taken her plastic snakes and put them in tuppaware and covers them with playdoh to burrow. Her favourite game is to play snake diacovery. She asked me to buy her racking for them.... you have created a love of reptiles in her your 4 year old mind and j think its fantastic. She asks for a pet snake all the time now.... one day my little one, one day.
Awe. Baby noodles! I'd love a few garters. I like how varied their diets are. Those babies are super cute 🤩

I hope you guys feel proud about how good your enclosures are at the zoo, the animals are so happy they're having babies out of normal season, that is huge.
Emily and Ed: alright time to brumate for the winter
Reptiles: ... no no, time to make/have babies.
was holding some of my juvies and they started showing breeding behavior! I said no one more year till you guys are big/old enough. Though i do have one adult pair that is in burmation right now.
Yeah buddy!!!!
Emily: oh no they’re musking on me
Ed: NICE
I’m guessing that they have fat-tailed geckos in the incubator. Also, can we just take a moment to appreciate everything that Emily and Ed do for us!? They are such amazing people!
Good guess
Hiiiii
Ooh, my guess was the fox snakes but that makes sense too!
@@anyasheng1320 I'm pretty sure the fox snakes are brumating.
I was feeling disappointed about having to wait so long till the possibility of eggs and snake babies..
Suddenly the snakes had other plans for us all and gave us a late Christmas gift of adorable little baby snakes :D
Let this be a good sign for breeding season 2022. Would love to see a lot of baby noodles, they are just the cutest
Hi! I’m from Australia.. does Wisconsin allow Centralian Carpet Pythons? They are native to Australia and I might consider sending mine to you as I sadly don’t have time for her anymore. She may be a little aggressive as we haven’t handled her in a while. Just a question. Also all the baby garters are so cute 😍
Given that live animals have overnight shipping, I doubt you could safely ship from a different country. Even with the fastest possible shipping, your snake would still have to go through customs and who knows what kinds of delays there could be.
However, I'm sure there are people doing similar things in Australia who you could re-home your snake with! I would recommend starting with a local herpetological society and seeing what resources they have
@@harmonicaveronica Great advice. I’ll look into it soon 👍🏻
Im not sure about if Wisconsin allows that snake but I do know that Australia forbids reptile exports unless it's accredited zoos "trading" animals, and even then it's a lengthy process
@@skeleletonboi4533 yes
Also make sure that snake discovery is ok with that. Email them maybe? Don’t just send animals without checking that they would have a nice home with a enclosure ready.
AWWW!! They’re all so cute, it reminds me of in the summer we caught a baby garters snake. We named her little sas because she bit us 3 or 4 times. It’s pretty weird that your baby garters were born in the winter.
"We've been working on this for weeks!"
- Flashback back to Emily giving enthusiastic pep talk to mom's belly -
This was such perfect timing. I had just finished my online college classes and this was interesting. So cute babies. Emily and Ed:talk about how they don't have much time. Emily and Ed: then keep getting distracted by stuff. I love how some of the babies love to just try to tie themselves together to look like a hydra dragon or something. Well, we know Emily won that. So many cute babies
Ha, you said Ed:Talk
My Dad figures they look like the caduceus symbol.
Adorable. Baby Colubrids, actually just baby snakes are the most adorable thing. Even feisty ones... *Especially* feisty ones lol
Edit: Boas (BCI or Morph boas) have an Eurytheristic morph too - Blood Boas! :)
Congratulations on your beautiful new babies. So here's a question....based on their coloration, can you tell who the Mom is for the first clutch? And that second Mom is GORGEOUS. Does she have a name?
I'm happy so many animals are breeding. It means they're happy and comfortable in their new environments, so good job! :)
Baby garters in January?! Weird but quite awesome.
Can we get an update on the deformed turtle you guys kept?
I don't know how long it's been since you filmed this but I assume that you have gone through the garter enclosure after everyone left that day and took the whole thing apart so you can be positive you got all the babies out
Given that there were no still borns and none had deformities shows how healthy and happy your snakes are! Great job, you guys!!
i am honestly so glad that you made this channel, i have it legit book marked on my google quick find, and i love how you teach everyone about reptiles, continue with your journey and stay safe!
12:46 "help step bro" also you guys are wholesome asf about animals its awesome
I doubt you'll see this comment but I want to say that I love your educational work and helping people love reptiles. Your zoo is amazing and you take wonderful care of your animals ( my favourite are rex and ally) . Please keep educating people about the life of these amazing creatures that deserve way more appreciation not only as wonderful pets but as important members of the ecosystem.

This just proves you guys did an amazing job with the zoo and the animals are super happy and feel safe!! Awesome baby snakes so so cute!!
I love seeing the salamanders, I used to have one named gilly we got her from a bait shop and raised her to adult hood. She got sick around February 2020 and sadly passed away, we miss her dearly but I’m glad we had her
At a bait shop? Like, fish bait ? That’s awful . What state is that in ?
Aw I'm sorry to hear that she passed. I always thought salamanders we're probably my favorite amphibian.
@@silkyrobinson5079 I’m in Arizona, they sell the babies as bait for bigger fish
I owned them too my ones also got sick and we don’t have vets that specialise in salamanders so they sadly passed away oround the end of 2021

Was not expecting the first babies of the year for a good while but this was a very welcome surprise!! So adorable
Great quality entertainment!! Maybe the garters were planning a show to get the spotlight by hatching in the winter 🤣😂
Keep up the great work!! Love you guys!!
Please report the bots (don't reply). I just went through and probably reported 40+ bot comments. I hate seeing Emily and Ed's channel being flooded with that kind of garbage 🥺
I've always wanted a snake, and I've been thinking about getting garter snakes! I don't have access to mice, so is there any way it can live on completely bugs/ meat?
They were on her rodent free list, and love nightcrawlers, tilapia, and raw chicken!
They really like tilapia and worms
@@papyrusthegreat457 mine loves night crawlers
It is not recommended to go completely rodent free with garters but it's totally doable you just have to be careful about what you're feeding them. If you have access to reptilinx (or however TF it's spelled) I would recommend feeding those occasionally because to my understanding they are not cheap but if you can afford them just feed those if you can't afford then like what the other commenter said tilapia, raw chicken, nightcrawlers, earthworms can also work to my understanding at least and there's a couple others that I'm probably forgetting
I’ve always loved snakes but never thought about getting one until I began watching your videos. I love garter snakes the most 😍 I hope I can get into it soon after more research and preparation!
Snakes are generally pretty bad at maths, and don't do multiplication. Some are adders, though.
This is the best surprise! These videos calm me so much and today is a very hard day
I hope things get easier for you, you can do it!
Wow I have that same exact habitat but in green and for snails/frogs! I really recommend it if your new to getting small reptile!
Very exciting news! I love the babies, they're very cute!
This brings me back to the first Snake Discovery video I ever watched which was the birth of the two headed garter. Ever since Ive had a love for checkered garters, Thank you guys so much for helping me find a love for reptiles over the past year or so.
when Emily said ' first babies in the zoo" I was like " was she already expecting there to be baby animals in the zoo?"
well they knew they put both male and female animals into the same enclosures, and even though it's kinda off season for this the reptiles are happy to act
@@prcervi yeah true lol I was actually honestly surprised tho lol
Yay! Here I was thinking I'd be waiting ages to see more baby snakes 🥰
Awe so cute. I definitely wasn't expecting this amazing surprise! There are so many wiggle noodles😍
Aww adorable baby noodles I wonder if it’d be worth it to put custom signs on the garters enclosure asking visitors to tell you if they see another baby in the tank?
They are so cute! I guess the zoo is good for breeding lol
Lol the snake witch project shaky camera … 🤣🤣 woooo babies!!!
When Em said “it’s always a good time to rearrange and clean the enclosure “ her hand pointed and I thought she had a snake 🐍 dangling from her hand getting flown/flung around! Lol just her keys lanyard! 🤣
Congratulations !
"New eggeaters" ???? Please make a video of that :o
It was my birthday today. I thought it was going well but coming home and seeing you posted a video of my (hopefully) future snake breed!
love you guys great vid as usual, more amphibians! DO A AMPHIBIAN TOUR LIKE ALL THE AMPHIBIANS
AW YAY! SURPRISE WINTER BABIES 😊
i have a pet snake, a male and his name is bubbles. has a ball python. we're not sure of his morphs, we bought him from an unreliable person who was abusing him and just trying to get rid of him. one of the ways they abused him, is that they only fed him once every 1-2 months. now when i first got him, a few months ago, he was eating great. but now its been over a month and he refuses to eat PERIOD. i had an adult that's very experienced and familiarized with snakes, come over and help me with him to see if anything was wrong. we tried to "force feed" him, but it did not work. the adult i had over, was hoping that she got him mad enough at the rat, to where he would eat it for me later. but he still hasnt eaten at all. he has only ever been fed frozen thawed white rats. im thinking of switching to black or brown rats to see if its because hes now scared of the white ones. but i have no idea. please let me know if theres anyway i can help him. Bubbles means the world to me. hes amazing, never bites, really beautiful, and ive wanted a pet snake ever since i was 6.
Emily, Ed, thank you guys so much, ever since I found your channel it has been a safe space for me. I know you guys might not see this but thank you so much.
Safe space?
@@denigong9708 I'm sure they mean something they can watch when things in real life get too much for them and they just want something nice and wholesome and chill to watch to chill out.
Hey could it be possible for your editor to add lil on-screen unit convertions for us non-Americans cuz -2 sounds chilly until i look it up and realize it's -19 celsius and that's insane also pls give each and every single garter snake, new or old, a lil smooch on the head from me I love them all
I love the baby vids and they are all so amazing in their own way!
I love your videos 😍😊🥰😊😍🥰😊😊😊
I was excited to see a baby video so early on in the year, brings tears of joy to my eyes ❤️❤️❤️
I was on a walk a few months ago, like in September or November, and at two very separate locations found two little baby garter snakes curled up trying to bask. I was kinda confused as to why there were garters that looked a few days old in the fall, it doesn't seem like the best time to be having babies. Do y'all have any ideas? It was very amusing to see that Emily and Ed had a similar predicament!
They were very cute and I wanted to help them, but I didn't because it's the wild, and I'm fairly sure that they're both dead...
Yalls snakes are adorable! Especially the babies-
So many people are salty that they have to wait even though they are on the waiting list.. Like do you seriously expect Ed and Em to ship you snakes that could die?
I love your videos they make my day, I wish I could go to the zoo but I live halfway across the country and I can't but I still love watching the videos you guys make

My mom and dad found a snake we don't know how to know how what species it is and worth thinking that well it's really Brown and it has a really cool pattern and we're keeping it until spring
Congrats on the babies! All your reptiles seem to be thriving and happy in the zoo - I’m sure this year will yield many cute clutches of noodles!
They're like baby shoelaces, looks like they're tying themselves up. 😂 👟
Video Idea: I don't know if anyone else is curious, but I'd like to know what reptiles you've left at your house if any, or if you're planning on any at-home pet only ones?
love your videos :)
IIRC their entire collection is at the zoo. The only reptiles they have at home are the ones in quarantine.
I’m curious too!
I never knew snakes could have a live birth, cool! Love this channel I’m always learning something new!
I know you guys are awfully busy, but I would love to see a live stream next time yall get babies, like of you going over each one and maybe talking about what you're looking for and the whole process! It would be super fun to see how you guys handle all the babies in real time . You can also stream changing around the bins, or rearanging the habitats etc. or you could use a go pro to stream the feeding or checkups or whatever. But again I know you guys are mad busy with the zoo!
Normally she would try not to get eaten but when it comes to salamanders …” ARE YOU HUNGRY?” it shows that she knows every animal’s personality
🤗
If it was my zoo, I would just put up a sign that says, "Guess many babies did the garter snakes have." I could do that in like 2 minutes. :)
i love how you guys are so bouncy and exciting and fun! :) 🐍 🍃
They have the winter babies. Babies of winter is rare they should be called they winter babies there name’s should be close to snow or winter or a blizzard

It’s so cool seeing babies born in the zoo, especially garters which have live babies you can see scurrying about in a natural environment. I think it’d be so cool if one of these babies got held back for a breeding project with their erythristic snakes to see what kinda colours they’d get 😁
