Hey bro, I had that same noise & come to find out it the lowered control arm rearward, I change out both sides today, noise gone 👍👌
The noise is from the upright mount (top side) that's made of rubber. It just shifts and gets a little old and starts to squeak when going over curbs slow speed.
Hi, did you fix cracking sound? I have same car same sound......hopefully the workshop do not have to let replace all control arms..
The clunking noise was fixed! It actually turned out to be the lower control arms! After replacing the lower control arms on both sides, it rides like a cloud!
@@Fwerks.1592 thx for swift replying 👍🏻
@@Fwerks.1592was it the forward lower or rear lower or both.. or the ball joints on the lowers?
Should always attempt to test the suspected failed parts before throwing parts at it, can use wheel wiggle method. Usually that noise are LCAs and/or very bad ball joint
Problem has been resolved. I always lift up the car and move the wheel up and down, left to right. It’s usually the big rearward lower control arm.
Hey, how to fix sunroof shade?
Hi mate your lucky that pinch bolt came out but the balljoint splitter you used only to be used if its that stuck In the hub they wreck the rubber covers so next time you do similar job take pinch bolt out and hit the hub steal part and the balljoint pops out and you didn't even check the balljoints for play and just to my knowledge the top two arms never course knocking noises if you can check the bottom lower arms and it will be the left lower arm hope that helps
@ Nathan Dyke, thank you for watching! Thank you for the advise. I'm aware of the ball joint separator tool. Two things im not worried about the rubber boots since both control arms were being replaced. Now, if I was to re-use them, certainly I would not use the ball joint separator for this. Second there is no need to bang the hub if it's not necessary, with the quick method I used, it worked in my favor. Some other people use torches and bang on the hub or even hit the spindle which is a no for me. The pry method worked great for me and I did not have to mar up my hub or spindle. As for the lower control arm there was a small, if not barely any play. There will be another video on replacing the lower control arms. When this is all and done this Q5 will have a brand new suspenion!
And the rubbers in the end ate like brand new and you didn't check the balljoint on the other end lol
I replaced all my bushings and still have that issue what else can it be?
The fork thing you called is a balljoint splitter and u use it with a hammer not as a pry bar
I've just changed the lower arms on my 2015 Q5 and I haven't heard the creak yet 🤞. I did notice some of the other bushes were worn a bit aswell.
@Gavin Thomas, yes that’s next on the list next week. I’m doing the lower and also the lower ball joint! Did you have any issues getting the lower control arm off?
@@Fwerks.1592 no came off fine 👍
How do you know if the upper or lower arms are bad? My Q5 is making the same type of sound
@A. White, good question! With the car jacked up, grab the tire on the 9oclcok position and the the other hand on the 3oclock position. Try moving the tire left and right and check for play on the suspension. I had a slight play on the lower control arm which I’m going to replace soon. Also grab the tire from 12oclock and 6 o’clock and try moving it up and down . Check for any suspension components that move!
@@Fwerks.1592 Thanks! Please make another video if you end up tackling the lower job
@@ayewhite333 I will most definitely post a video on the lower control arms and ball joint! Before this month ends!
My mechanic told me they can't get the long bolt out of the knuckle because it is ceased in it, as you mentioned at the beginning of the video. Is there a way to remove it? He told me I have to buy new lower and upper control arms and the knuckle as well, which came to like $2500 per side. Thanks in advance for your reply.
@HID Vision Canada, try soaking the upper pinch bolt with PB blaster. I also used a impact wrench to loosen up the bolt. As long as the bolt rotates, you can then hit it with a 3LB mini sledge hammer to push the bolt out! If you have any further questions feel free to email me and I can provide with more additional help! foreignwerks15@gmail.com
You need to go to another mechanic. At worst you will have to buy the 2 top arms on each side because the ball joints will get destroyed after putting heat into the bolt which you will need to get it out. Why he says replace the knuckle and lower control arms because of a seized pinch bolt I have no idea.
Did you fix this?
@Jawaad not at the moment, hopefully within the next month I’ll get the lower control arms and ball joints. Then I can do a video on how to replace those components!
My 2013 Q5 is getting too much fuel or not enough fuel is what the mechanic told me. Sometimes it shakes when I first start it. Anyone have any suggestions? I’ve changed the spark plugs and coils. Running way better but still shaking when I first start up the car or go in reverse then it’s ok when driving down the road.
Was the mechanic able to pull any codes? I can be many things; a vacuum leak can be one issue. Sounds like a misfire to me. Try getting a second opinion from a different mechanic.
Good TRW is the best ones to get. Miele and 034 motosport arms suck.
Yea bro have u found out what the problem is I am dealing with the same thing right now
Yes sir! It’s the lower control arm!! I have another video on replacing it!
its the lower control arm
Thank you Sebastian, I will definitely be looking into the lower control and hopefully I can get a video showing how to replace it!
Lower rearward
