When I got my dog, I can't lie I was freaked out by how inolved and personal it was having a dog, he needed me for everything and paid attention to everything I do hahaha. Ive lived alone for so long it freaked me out a bit. Six years later best decision I ever made.

Advice from a veteran mother of cats: 1-2 years old I think is the best age to get a cat for the qualities you’re looking for. This age range means they’re young enough that they’ll be open minded and form a close relationship with you fairly quickly, they’ll like to play a little, but they won’t be a crazy cr*ck head running around destroying your life (I recently got another baby kitten and this is the case). Plus at this age they will be in your life for a good while!
The cr*ck head stage is real!!! 🤣🤣 it’s so funny but actually awful! They’re just honing those murderer instincts 😭🤣 omg they’ll live to be 20+ easy too if they get their exercise and stay skinty. Raw food-! None of that processed who-knows-what-bagged stuff.

Those are the most well trained and sweetest dogs I've ever seen. Their owner did a really good job training them.

We also have to understand when adopting cats that, they may have had terrible experiences to make them so guarded and scared of humans. We don’t consider that. It’s the same thing with a dog but we seem to have more sympathy and patience with dogs though.
Definitely! Cats can take at least a few weeks to get comfortable in new surroundings it takes some time and patience but is well worth it!
It's so worth it when they open up to you 💖 patience is all that matters 🥰
I’ve thought you were a cat lady for a while but I didn’t want to say anything - I wanted to see if you would come to it naturally (which I knew you would!). There is something to be said of coming to a conclusion on your own. Also, there are so many beautiful architectural cat trees for sale now. I think you will find one that fits your newly discovered personal style. As a cat lady myself, I suggest putting it next to the window or at least in the room where you spend all your time. Cats like to be in the same room and keep an eye on you! Anyways great content as always. Thank you for sharing this little piece of your life, Kelly!

We thought we wanted a dog….and then we adopted two kittens because it made more sense in our little apartment. And now they are our LIFE and we love them so much and are die-hard cat people!!
Just please please get 2 cats and not one, they are so much happier in bonded pairs and will give each other love, attention and play when you’re busy. It’s the best of both worlds!!
I agree! I had two straggly little street siblings cats for a weekend and they were so cute together. I think they do indeed need a friend.
You have to work for cat’s affection. That’s what makes them special. You don’t choose a cat, a cat chooses you. Also, cats can be just as spontaneous and playful as dogs. The argument that cats are mean or they are boring is a myth.
If society glorified cats the same way they do dogs, we’d see more happy and joyful cats on a daily basis. As a matter of fact, if we glorified cats as much as we do dogs, there wouldn’t be stray cats in the world.
But there are still stray dogs in the world...

As a cat owner (who is black) I hate the looks and the comments I get from people when I tell them I have a cat. But cats are so chill, all mines does is sleep and give the occasional head butt it’s great. One day I may get a dog, but the way my life is set up right now, and with the way I’m almost always late for work in the morning i know there is no way I could handle one right now🤣
I'm not sure why the hard shift from cats to dogs in the last 15 years. It's so trendy to love dogs and hate on cats. If I could, I'd have both cats and dogs.

You'd have to wake up a 1/2 hour earlier if you had a dog. Either that or you would just be late for work all the time because when they want their morning walk they want that morning walk!lol
When I used to watch my friend's Pekingeses, they were ready for their morning walk at like *3:30AM* because my friend works from like 4AM till 1PM, so she would walk them at the same time around 3:30AM and the dogs had that schedule ingrained in them.
@@greatgownsbeautifulgowns yessss I used to wake up at 7:00 during the week days now I wake up at 6:30 to take her out and feed her. Also my weekends I would wake up at 10:00 now I wake up at 7:00.

Cats are great. Low maintenance, no house training (for going to the bathroom anyway). Independent & aloof enough to not be too needy. And I think they're spiritual. Always meditating 😄. I think one would be perfect for you

Went my whole life without having a cat. And then 2 years ago, I went to the humane society and fell in love with a Kitten who I ended up taking home with me. Now, I couldn't imagine life without him! Honestly the best advice I could give anyone is GET A CAT lol! They are so self reliant and great company to have around, they just be vibing!

Yes, cat lady here! I do like dogs, but just have a preference for cats. I got my kitty pearl at 2 months & kept her constantly around people and pets/cuddles on a regular basis, and now over a yr later, she’s very social and cuddly. She does have cat crazy moments, but only bites/claws me, not anyone else..if that makes it better 😅 wishing you a cuddly and affectionate kitty ✨

I agree with the people who say you should get two if you plan on spending a lot of time gone. I recommend getting both at the same time and for them to already be bonded.
I adopted a cat and then 5 years later adopted another one and it's taken almost an entire year for them to be 100% comfortable with each other. BUT, they are definitely glad to have each others' company despite the attitudes.

There is nothing wrong with choosing to adopt a cat, especially since they know how to take care of themselves when you’re on vacation. I love dogs just like you but owning a dog is a lot more work, especially since they require so much attention. I plan on owning a cat in the future and I think I will enjoy it a lot more because they know how to give you space but will come to you at the best time to cuddle.
Just FYI humans don’t own cats. Quite the opposite is true😻😻😻

Those were some easy dogs to babysit lol. The bulldogs just like to chill out vs. some other breeds that are super high energy
A cat will be the perfect pet for you, they're super affectionate but also want their space from time to time, just don't leave them for many days at a time because it can make them anxious, always have a sitter with them. Cats can come of as aloof but really miss their owners when they leave. Cats are amazing!
Cats are terrific! Might be hard if you’re away a lot though unless you get a pair and someone can check in on them~ senior cats are a great idea!

@@KellyStamps look for apps for plants recognition. You just have to take a photo of your plant and the app will tell you its name. About kitty, I also have one, did not want her initially, but now she is my favorite person 😂 I would only suggest you get a regular one, not a "fancy" one, because they generally are not that healthy, just bread to reach certain looks.
Oooh yes! On top of that, the large majority of essential oils/candles/scents are dangerous for them and can cause respiratory and other illnesses.
I've had my first dog for a year now... It's been fun and frustrating at the same time 🤣 they do require a lot of work, not regretting it though ❤

Those dogs were great. I truly love both cats and dogs. They both require a different type of care and attention based on the type and personality. Be mindful of the plants you own around pets, many are poisonous.
I think you'd love having a cat companion. My suggestion as a person who's always had a cat in the fam, wait until your traveling less! Cats are "lower maintenance " but they need company, care and leaving them for long periods of time isn't good for their health 💞

I’m 100% a cat person lol I love both cats and dogs but cats just have always pulled at my heart strings more. Fun fact we have about five strays in our back yard (yes they do stick around cause they’re fed) but when I moved in they would all run away from me. It’s took me around 3 months to actually get a pet in and for them to realize I was a friend. But it was 100% worth it. 10/10 interactions now. 5 stars on Yelp. (Now I’ve built them a winter shelter and I even got one to let me - hesitantly - put on a flea collar on them). I’m so happy to be helping out these stray kitties 🐈⬛

Bulldogs are literally the best companions (and unfortunately one of the most unhealthy breeds) but if you put in the time to properly take care of them the way they are supposed to be, they are just big ole potatoes that will love you deeper than any human ever will. I love my bean shaped boy so much 🥺

Cats better for people who don't want a pet who requires too much attention. But be careful with the young ones, if you don't play with them regularly they will get naughty and or depressed. A chill older cat from a shelter would be ideal for you.

I love both dogs and cats. Cats are easier. Dogs are a lot of work. Both are big responsibilities. Both make you fall in love immediately. Both are worth the effort because they love you unconditionally. Think seriously before you make the commitment.

Kelly you will love a cat! They are all so different and their personalities are too depending on the breed. I have a ragdoll and I think you will enjoy one too! They go limp when you hold them 😍
Dogs are great, but do not mix well with travel; cats work better for that. Cats are more like people, sometimes they are sweet and sometimes sour whereas dogs are almost always affectionate unless they are ill. In my experience they need more attention, or should have more attention. I am not much for exterior dogs chained to a post with minimal contact.

It is possible to have the best of both worlds, Kelly... I grew up with cats and dogs and love both. Cats are definitely much more suited to a "portable" lifestyle, so to speak (lol), but they, too, can be clingy. 👀Personality factors in, but BREED plays an important role, as well... Soooo, do your research! ☺️

YES! Be a cat person! They LOVE us; but they like their solitary time. Except for my cat. He lurks outside the bathroom door when I am showering or whatever. When I open the door, he scoots away quickly. I know he's been spying on me! You will like the way a cat can be very independent! Plus, I can't tell you how comforting it is to fall asleep with a cat purring near your ear.
All dogs are different. It can sometimes be a matter of finding one that fits your lifestyle. But yeah, dogs do take a commitment. But you did so much in return.
I personally prefer chill dogs.

Regardless if dogs, cats, fish, birds or alligators - every pet crashes your freedom. You have to feed and water them, walk them around, clean up after them, keep them healthy with regular visits at a vet, they will break your heart when they die, and so on. With your unstable livestyle, a pet would be only possible if you have reliable friends or neighbors who more or less adopt your pet. I never had a pet, and that made my life so much easier.
I'm a dog person and not everyone is made to be a dog owner. It's more work and they require a lot of attention (my dogs follow me EVERYWHERE and it's so annoying sometimes lol). Cats are low maintenance. You look like a cat person and cats seem to like you. BTW I've been watching you for over a year now. We are going through the exact same family issues except I'm still living with them 😓 I hope we both heal from this. Love you always Kelly ❤
