Glad you made decision to move on .for all the lovely people that exist in the world there will always be one or two that spoil it for the majority. Stay safe & safe travels jeremy & Kim x
I love how you know your husband’s strengths and follow his lead. No talking it out or him having to justify himself, just he said we need to move and your like ok he’s 100% right about these things and off you go. That’s a true partnership and was lovely to watch play out in front of my eyes. Oh and I’m subbing right now, I’ve watched a few of your videos now and have enjoyed them all.
Great comment Erika, thank you . Yes we both have our strengths and this was one of those 'Michael' moments. So pleased you've subscribed and hope you get chance to catch up on all our adventures.
Hi Katherine yes you are correct about other boaters, sometimes we don't moor in recognised CRT moorings if there are no other boaters, the countryside and in the middle of nowhere is often best. Thanks for your comment. x
After 18 years in the security industry you learn to trust your instincts. Anticipate and avoid.very few in society can cope with dangerous situations .
@@cruisingontheborder You acted appropriately. One could have also been interrupting a "bust"....so would have also been told to go away for that reason. We don't know, but that could have been a possibility. Leaving was wise.
It must be terrible frustrating as a women being denied the right to oneself. I’m not worried about my partner, as she’s a better shot than I and she has a steadier hand.
I guess if they're bold enough to heckle you from the towpath - they're bold enough to step on board and make a scene. Very street-smart to move along.
We have three Shar peis. On our wb Toilet trained by 11weeks won't find a better bread for this. Will never shit near the boat. Evolved for over a thousand years to guard. The Mrs will never feel so safe walking down a towpath on a dark January. Also not a working breed so happy with half hour walk a day. Obviously would rather 2hours, Lol. Very intelligent breed easy to train. Seriously you need a dog makes you feel so safe, way Any wrongern would run a mile second the dog starts to bark. Which mine automatically what ever time off day or night.
Sorry you had a bad 'experience' in Loughboro. Can't say it's any better or worse than anywhere else in UK - the s**ts are everywhere and it's just a matter of luck if you bump into them. I think that the towpath gets used more by the undesirables as they are less likely to run into any police presence. Anyway wishing you a safe journey🍀
Hi Matty thanks for your comment and yes you are right the towpath is a way of people escaping from 'view', sadly it happens often. This time it was easy for us to change our mooring location.
So glad you moved on and stayed safe. Gut feeling is everything in a situation like that. Between the floods and the locals you’ve had a real time of it! Here’s to some more peaceful times ahead! 😊
So sorry to hear of that you both had such an experience, be well and now relax, knowing that you are far from those miscreants. Keep on, keeping on. Much love and strength from Ireland (Republic of.)
Hi Patrick. Yes we are all safe now, that was our first ever experience of this type of problem. But alls well that ends well. Regards to you in Ireland and thanks for the comment.
As a volunteer lock keeper 👍 we also get abusive and confrontational boater 😔 on the upside this was the first time in 6 years just listen to local advice and stay safe.👍
I’ll never understand why some ignorant boater (probably day boater or hireboat) would feel justified in abusing someone who volunteers their time completely freely purely to ensure that THEY can use the canal? I for one thank you for your devotion to duty and can only assure you that no one will ever abuse a locky in my earshot. All the best to you.👍
I had youth problems at Fobney Lock Reading in May forgot schools were off A real nightmare as I am a single handed boater but so lucky another boater wanted to come up Michael so after two youths jumping into the lock in front of my boat as I entered I tried to stay calm but after coming from Newbury in yellow that's a exsperience in its own all the best from Dave !!
Hi Dave thanks so much for the comment. We've heard other horrid stories about boats being smeared outside with garlic mayonnaise..... don't fancy that one either! Hope you survived your Fobney Lock experience. School holidays is a tricky time of year for boaters we think.
Hi Jackie & Michael Glad the river levels went down and you were able to make progress again, you must get a sixth sense of where is safe to moor and Michael's judgement seems spot on It must get difficult when you get stuck in one place especially for water and supplies Take care the both of you Lots of love Jane & Martin.
Hello both, hope you are well and enjoying life??? It was a challenging few days but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.... I think that's the saying.... Yep I know I can always trust Michael's instinct. Take care both of you J & M x
That's a coincidence, Ben of 'Ben and Emily' channel was playing in the Waterside on their last episode and they said the same thing about the houses looking like Netherlands houses! 😊 It's been interesting watching your footage of the floods, thank you 💜
Hi Suzie. Its a small world isn't it, they houses were so cute. So pleased you enjoyed our 'flood' escapades. Thank fully the weather looks a lot better now.
So smart to move on to a better location when it doesn't feel very safe. Fortunately we didn't have to do that very often but it did happen. Such culinary skills Michael, looks a lot better that my corned beef hash I attempted occasionally. Looking forward to next weeks adventure! Stay safe!
Hi John lovely to hear from you and great to know you enjoyed this weeks cruising. Yes the right move to change our mooring location. Ah ah yes its a Saturday night tradition in our boat, sometimes I have to fight him to get in the kitchen and cook.... Jackie
Great video! I am a local to this area. Firstly, the River Soar flood plain between Leicester and Loughborough is often completely flooded many times per year and great care needs to be taken whenever there is a heavy downpour, as we have all experienced recently. Secondly, there is nowhere in Loughborough that I would recommend anybody stays for any length of time. I lived in that town for many years and, I am sad to report, it is full of drug addicts and undesirables, especially on the route that the canal takes north of the town. The best solution is to plan your route so that you stop south of the town near Pillings Lock and then sail straight through the following morning without stopping. Sad but true. Enjoy your journey guys! x
I also know Loughborough and second that - it is sad but they've just let the scrotes take over, especially during school hols - I'd advise other boaters to keep going.. same with Scrote-on-Trent!
Hi Steven. Sadly we now understand that about Loughborough but have to say we were ok in the end mooring at the Junction, perfectly safe. Normally we avoid mooring in big towns or cities for that reason. The Soar, it was our first experience on that River, not our last I'm sure but we were glad we made the decision not to proceed. Thanks for your great comment and the tips. J&M
@@cruisingontheborder come up the Ashby! 'Cos of all the rain we've been having, it's more navigable and moor-able than it's been for a few years 👍 Great time to do it - it's lovely..
I have been watching a lot of narrow boat videos. It looks beautiful and yet I can tell that I do not have the temperament to live in one. It is not the small space or the water. It is the lack of privacy , It also seems that there are a lot of people that control your choices. Certainly not a life for everyone. I am glad you guys enjoy it. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Hi great comment and thanks for your thoughts on the lifestyle. Yes there are others that control your decisions but sometimes that can be the same when living off the water too. It is a small space but we are ok with that having travelled in a motorhome for a number of years to. So pleased you are enjoying the videos. xx
Better safe than sorry! I enjoy your travels and it is very interesting to see England's waterways from the narrow boats perspective and learning how the locks and everything work, not to mention the beautiful places, the pro's and con's. Thank you for taking us on your travels. Have a safe time.
Good Day Michael / Jackie Seen this type of thing before with young girl that went away for a few days, boat was not were she left it facing the wrong way, and all the windows smashed in. keep safe.
Hi there thanks for your comment and your concern. Yes its always a worry but we do a lot of research on where to leave the boat and as Michael is in charge of security I totally trust his judgement. We will stay safe. Thanks again.
We have so much rain in the UK .I remember when everything flooded so badly with tops of cars poking up from streets and always thought that a boat was a good idea in uk and you seem to have embraced the lifestyle. The canals stretch right up to Scotland and you could hire a car in Inverness to do a video of the pass down to sheildag. and torridon .Some people have camper vans and motor homes parked on their families driveways and do both lifestyles .Many people selling their homes now for that greater peace. We are building new estates and trapping people into very small spaces very expensive small spaces and not in the countryside and landscapes.Enjoy your life and all the friends you will make.See the narrowest girl she was in the Loughborough area while ago with her mum.Enjoy and be Happy in all that you do.X
Hi Susanne. Yes we've had loads of rain in the last few weeks, sadly but it looks like the worst of it has passed by now. We are seem boats do the canals is Scotland and they look so pretty. Maybe one day will bring BR north of the border!! Thanks for your lovely comment. Hope you hear from you again. Jackie & Michael
Well lately it seems that your cruising has been very exciting and nerve racking. Well done getting through all weather and rude possibly violent people. Good grief. You dinner looked yummy. Take care and cheers.
Hello hope you're ok, lovely to hear from you again. It was a challenging few days but we made it safe and sound plus a beautiful meal cooked by Michael always helps at the end of the day x
My narrowboat is moored at Pilling's Lock marina on the river Soar. In the past I have moored at Loughborough Junction without incident. Late March of this year I headed to the Trent and Mersey canal from Pilling's. The river Trent in flood was quite an experience!
Wow Keith we bet that was an experience the Trent in flood... scary we are sure. Yes we eventually moored at the Junction and all was good. Happy cruising and stay safe.
My old patch, Barrow to Long Eaton … I NEVER moored anywhere in the towns or villages around there. Barrow, Loughborough, like a lot of Leicester navigation attracts many an unscrupulous people… I would use other words in person, but yeah, you did the right thing. Where you stopped, is bang on, but the place is infested with Druggies. Hope you learned a lesson on the Soar, hope you have a few nights at Kegworth deep lock, a lovely place favoured by many boaters…😉
Hi thanks so much for dropping us such an interesting comment. We often get tips from other boaters about good places to moor but I think this time because we were held up by the floods and there weren't many other cruisers around that couldn't happen. Michael was on the ball as he always is and it worked out ok for us in the end. The Soar we know is very tricky at all times of the year. Hope you continue to enjoy our little adventures. J&M :)
Years ago life on the canal was so peaceful and gentle.......scum are in all places now and nothing and nobody are safe. Its very sad but life is being ruined now by undesirables.Stay safe and stay one step ahead of the dark side.
Hi thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment. Yes you are very right but we should say this was the first time in nearly 3 years of cruising the British waterways we have seen this activity. Hope it will be the last.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this glimpse of your narrowboat life. You have a very pleasant mellow husband. I enjoyed especially when you got to the food segment - just wish the video was longer. Oh don't we miss Tony Bourdain. So remember to please throw in your cuisine. Thank you so much for a joyful video that ended way too soon.
There are so many lessons to be learned from this! Number one: you might be on a (reltively) benign waterway which can turn very nasty very quickly. If you can't see where the shallows are, and run aground totally or partially, it is likely to be embarrassing at best, life- threatening at worst. You were right to stay tied -up until the flood subsided. Canals and rivers are dangerous. And then, there's the party boats. Squadrons of guardian angels overhead. Hmm.. And them tow-rags telling you to f. Off. No point in arguing with the likes of them. So, skipper, navigator, diplomat, engineer and chef you need to be. For starters. X. Nick
Hi Nick. Thanks so much for your comments. Yes safety always comes first both in terms of cruising and where we moor up. Yes we have to be all of those things too, you are right!! Stay safe yourself. Jackie & Michael.
Hi and yes we understand and agree with your comment. You realise it's a sad world when you see and hear events like we didn't. Thankfully we are safe. Jackie & Michael
So sorry you had a negative experience in this one. Ive lived in loughborough all my life and the area has gotten much worse in the last 5 years or so. Glad you didnt let it spoil your fun.
Hi thanks for the comment, it didn't spoil our experience and it was the first time we have experienced anything like this in all of our waterways travels in both the UK and Europe. Hope you are enjoying the videos. x
You don't need to be on a narrow boat to encounter situations like that. Sadly, it's just a part of life that we all need to be cognisant of, particularly in less affluent areas. But as you know, for every 1/2 mile of dirty, glass strewn, yob infested, desolated urban canal, there's 200 miles of beautiful, lush green, safe and welcoming historic English waterway to enjoy :) You did right by quietly moved on. Good call...
Thank you John, yes you are so right. This is our first ever potential security issues in over four years on the UK network. We also traveled through three countries in Europe between 2011 and 2014 and never saw an issue. Hope you are enjoying the rest of the videos xx
Hello.. hope you're ok, thanks for dropping us a little comment. Yes considering how big the UK waterways network is its surprising how many bloggers we bump into. Thankfully we survived our Loughborough experience.
A lot of Narrow Boaters are going to the River Shannon in Ireland. Much quieter and a lot safer in general than the UK. I've had my boat there for the last 7 years and love it..
I'm from The Netherlands and the houses on the left (@18:50) are indeed Dutch-like build, they are called "trapgevel-woningen" (or staircase-facade houses) and a few of what apear to look like "klokgevel-woningen" (or clock-facade houses)
Hi and thank you from the UK for your wonderful facts about Dutch houses, they were so so pretty. We love the fact you took the time to drop us a comment. Thanks
One of the best things are the miniature Delft ceramic stepped-gable canal houses that KLM create each year in conjunction with Bols Distillery...... filled with delicious genever! You can make a nice Amsterdam Christmas Village display when you collect a lot of them.
For safety at night, get good security infra-red cameras (and even sequester one in bush alongside the towpath). A good LED flashlight to blind thugs. Shrieker high-deciBel noise alerter or whistle, pepper spray, paintball gun, baseball bat, 3 -iron club, bullet resistant glass windows, machete, axe, throwing rocks. A top roof mounted gun turret flush with the roof line (like a B-29) would be an added bonus. Burlap bags with cinder blocks to weigh down the carcasses at the bottom of the canal in remote rural stretches. ..... or a bumper sticker type sign that reads "Warning: Boat alarm sounds like gunshots".
There's always someone who will spoil a good day, you did the right thing moving on, if a gang of them were still thier in the evening you really don't know what they are capable of, people have become very anti social, good luck with your cruising
Thanks for your comment Jack, lovely to hear from you. We should say this is the only time in over4 years of cruising the UK waterways we have received this type of aggression. Long may we continue to be problem free. x
love ta watch more of ya videos - love river barges turned into homes - one day when me be retired from rescuing Eagles (16 years volunteered me time ta do this) - would love ta retire on a barge - big change from running around marshlands and dense forest looking for sick or injured Eagles
Wow that sounds amazing rescuing Eagles you should be very proud of yourself. Hope you get to watch some of our other videos. It will be great to hear from you again. J&M xx
Thank you for the video. I had often wondered how people on the boats managed the people on the towpath! Thank you also for showing Mountsorrel, my great grandfather was born there and left in 1898 leaving behind a large family. Its on my bucket list to go there one day and get the feel of the place that they lived in. Stay lucky and happy adventures!
Hi Davy thank you for your lovely comment and giving us some family history. We hope you get back to see Mountsorrel at some point. It was lovely and the waterway made the whole area seem much more special. Glad you've found our channel. Lots more adventures to come.
If you ever make it back to Mountsorrel make sure you climb up Castle hill at the back its only a short walk but you can see all of the village, the soar valley and get a good feel for it
@cruisingontheborder Thanks Jac👍. Did you like and have you used the Merlin app i mentioned in a comment to Michael, its the bird song id, i love it, Dixie x
Hello Jackie and Michael mick from Hull really enjoyed this episode and I am very pleased to see you are both safe and well look forward to your next episode xx 😊😊
Good evening Mick, we hope you are keeping well? So pleased you enjoyed and yes we are all good. Michael is good with matters of security and even better at chicken tandoori....x
You two have great music. Thanks for that as it makes this channel so relaxing. One other thing: I do appreciate your not having inappropriate suggestions as some channels just go too far.
Noted! Thanks for letting us know we are doing things the right way. We are just documenting our waterways adventures and what you see is just us. Lots of fun, banter and adventuring. More to come don't forget to tune in every Sunday.
Hi Steve thank you so much for dropping us a comment. Yes you are so right but it all worked out well in the end. Safe mooring and a cheeky chicken tandoori from Michael.
I've just subbed because I love narrowboats and the idea of canal life, but also the dynamics between you two are charming. Michael is sensible, capable and caring. You obviously love him, respect his opinion and heed his advice. "Obedience" has had its meaning corrupted over the years. It's now taken to be weak-minded and unsure enough to "go one's own way". What it actually means between a couple is love and trust, which are much stronger forces than pride and rebellion. Soz for harping on but it was so refreshing to see. All the best with your continuing adventures, I look forward to following them
Hello thank you so much for dropping us a comment. We love the fact you get our dynamics, fun and banter. We try just to be our normal selves which hopefully comes across on screen. You have to be a good team when boating particularly also when you live aboard and have to think about logistics and security on a daily basis. Hope you continue to enjoy our weekly videos. x
Again a good vlog. Pleased to see the river flooding subsided so that you could get under-way again. You did the right thing to move on, I've done it myself on one occasion on the K&A. That's the beauty of narrowboats, just move on if you happen to cross paths with reprobates. Thankfully they are few and far between. That chicken tandoori looked nice 👌
Hi James. Thank you for your comment. Glad you enjoyed that one. We just thought it wise as you did to move on. No point in risking things and having to sleep with one eye open. 👍❤️
Just spotted you passing by our offices at Trident Park, Blackburn. Thought that's a nice boat, tonking on at speed. Looked up your boat name and found your channel. Keep up the good work and happy cruising.
Hi Mark.... just read your comment and you had us both chuckling. We remember cruising by your offices. Michael was walking ahead of the boat, so now I have to explain to him why I was going a little too fast. Oops!! It's lovely to think you goggled us and found the channel. Hope you manage to watch some of our other episodes? Thanks J&M :)
Brilliant !. Yes must be a worry when you moor the boat. In my dreams I will go for a river/off shore boat and lay anchor at sea for a sleep. The reality would probably not be as romantic as I'm thinking though :) Safe travels.
Ah ah you old romantic... Michael fancies a sail yacht but not sure I'd be happy at anchor at night. Spooky I would imagine. Loved you comment thanks for taking the time to message us.
What a lovely couple, nice way of life on the canal. I grew up on them in Cheshire MACC. I now live on a Pacific island , but come back to the UK for a pint and a canal walk. 😊
Vancouver Island needed a life change ten years ago. I watched Ray Mears survival on television and emigrated 2 years later peaple here on the island also salt Spring Island and others live on their boats , I have noticed how much less in price the boats are here . Craigslist Vancouver Island bc take a look@@cruisingontheborder
Hi Keith we always are careful, aware and assess every situation and location we find ourselves in. Its our first issue in over 3 years on UK waterways travel. We continue our onwards journey and we hope you continue to enjoy it. Updates following Loughborough out on Sunday.
Children used to pour buckets of water onto boats passing under Sonning Bridge on the Thames. One day they picked the wrong boat, and poured a bucket of water down the funnel of a steam launch. The children had a bit of a fright when they got a facefull of scalding steam
That must have been a few years back. Must admit not sure where the kids could stand for any length of time as the footpath is very narrow and single lane for traffic doesn't give you many options.
Thanks! We do try to make it all work. What we record is just us going about our travels and we learn every video with the editing, neither of us have any editing experience. We trust we get it slightly tight. 🙏🙏
Hi 👋 great to hear you’ve subscribed thank you so much 🙏🙏. Lots more adventures to come. We do a little round up of our Loughborough mooring this coming Sunday, hope you can watch 😀
Drugs are the scourge of society now for the last 3 generations of "yutes"; they destroy family, destroy initiative, destroy marriage, destroy mental stability, destroy finances and job outlooks, and destroy hope. Then those who had the will and fortitude and or good sense not to listen to the siren -song of the glorifiers of drugs and could find the small beautiful aspects of even a simple life on this wondrous Earth to occupy one's thoughts are the ones who have to pick up the pieces.. and pay the taxes.....and get victimized when they rob you for yet another worthless high. Yet if these users would just realize who the final destination of their money they paid for their transient "high" are, they would be scared to death to meet them; the drug cartel leader and his chief hitmen enforcers living it up in a secure villa surrounded by paid-off police or ex-military who would have no hesitation , at least with the Mexican Cartels, to behead your mom and dad in front of you. (Heck, Tijuana is again the murder capital of the world for the 4th year in a row. Despite San Diego, which has a higher population, being across the border, there are 20x more murders in TJ...90% cartel type. Mexican has 17 of the top most dangerous 50 cities in the world) I just wish there was a strong counter-champion to use positive peer pressure to keep teens from even thinking about "experimenting" and not fall for Snoop Dog's media-driven syncophantical subversive message. It is way past time to make drugs "un-cool".
Hi guys, yes it a strange one isn't it. Sometimes you just get a feeling that moving on is the right thing to do. Easy in the daylight and takes no time at all. Would hate to have to move at night if we encountered a problem!!
My best friend, now sadly passed away, lived on a narrowboat for a few years in the Midlands and the amount of scum, thieves, vandals around was just amazing. Finding a safe mooring was a constant worry.
Just come across your site. One of my bucket list things to do. You are also very interesting and down to earth. Safe journeys and you have a new viewer! I am 5 mins from the Norfolk Broads, it’s a great life

Hi 👋 great you found our little channel and hope it gives you some inspiration and ideas for your boat life adventures. It’s an amazing lifestyle. Thanks for your lovely comment 💕💕. All was well in the end we are safe 😁
Hi John, lovely to hear from you. No sadly it can be a fact on life along the towpaths but that is the first time (hopefully the last) we have come up with that scenario!! Take care x
@@cruisingontheborder I was walking my dog in the woods where I live about 6 months ago and was attacked by a man on a bike and he knocked me to the ground, no charges were secured as he was deemed mentally incapable. He also attacked 4 other men within half an hour.
hi from the USA--cool trip down the waterways---i been looking at liveaboard boats to do sightseeing tour here from South Florida(my home) up through several states---hopeing to do the GREAT LOOP- in the next 6-7 months in a buddy's- albin trawler for that trip--stay safe--stay dry-
Great video! Very inspiring even when you had some unpleasant experince with those people. And yes you are right, in the middel of this episode it looked a little bit like cruising a dutch canal.
Hi Yossi 🙏 so much for your comment so pleased you enjoyed. It all turned out well in the end. We loved those little ‘Dutch’ houses reminded us of our cruising in Holland. 💕
Yes Mark we have subsequently learnt that the section of the canal/river we were on is always a problem when there is a lot of rain. Thank fully we were ok in the end. Thanks for taking the time to to comment.
Some well dodgy characters roam the canal towpaths! The Nottingham to Beeston canal near me is one such canal! Runs through the city from the Trent opposite Forest football ground to the Trent at Beeston weir. Not a place to roam at night, particularly London Rd stretch and the city. Well handled. The Soar really does flood easily, the Wreake too!
Hi thanks for the great comment, good to know that. As boaters we are very aware where we moor, as you can see from this video. Now we know all about the Soar and the Wreake... that was a fun boating day when we nearly got pushed down the weir, did you watch it?? J&M x
I just watched "A Day Full of Incidents" video and that avocado chat was hilarious! Michael was so funny being confused by the avocado and then your comment written on the screen, "At this point I fear for the avacado" hahah awesome! Thanks for the smile to both of you.
Hi loved the comment and yes the 'avocado' incident had us both chuckling too! Glad we made you smile too. Lots more fun and games to come... keep watching.
I just watched someone else cruise on that same stretch of canal. The green light lock had volunteers working the lock. I live on the east coast of the States and we have a town that was a Dutch settlement . The main building, now Zwaanendael Museum, looks just like the homes you passed. Is there somewhere you can report an area as unsafe? It would be good for other boaters to be made aware.
Hi Sally wow love your comment all the way from the States. We would always tell other boaters who we met about areas that they should avoid. Sadly because of the floods there were very few other boats around and no-one to give us safe mooring advice. Hope you continue to enjoy our adventures. Hope next week will be a little more relaxing!! J & M
it must be a remarkable relief every time you come back to the boat or car and find they are still there / intact. Given crime rates it is amazing how you get away with it.
Hi there, yes all is good but we do put a lot of time and effort and research into where we moor for a night or if we leave the boat for the day. Logistics is a big element of narrow boating, something we are both very strong at. Thanks for dropping us a comment, we appreciate it.
Hi thanks for the comment and we hope we gave you just a little look at both places, the good, bad and sometimes the ugly. All is good now and we are enjoying our onwards cruising north. x
Totally Rob yes we agree with you. It took nothing for us to take the mooring lines in and move the mile further one. Right decision. Thanks for your comment.
love the whole narrow boat and cannel travel thing, I think its great and wondered about some more commercial urban areas where it goes though but that seemed rather nice or acceptable if I was staying in the boat, IMHO, but I would still have my carry on the boat or person which is not allowed in UK.
Ah ah we should say this is the only time in over four years of narrow boating in the UK we have had a problem. It is quite safe and we love it, wouldn't change it for the world. So pleased you love following our little adventures.
Thats how I saw Hardraw Force waterfall some years ago when I was up there. I never have seen anything like it in this country - comparable to Niagara Falls !! Scarey!
Thank you so much for your comment and we are so pleased you are enjoying our waterways adventures. We missed the Lea and Start when we were down near London, hopefully we will go back one day and do both.
i have always thought that with the canals being so narrow in places that there is always a risk of being targeted by neds because of the close proximity to the footpath especially in this day and age with so much anti social behavour
Hi John, thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment. We should say that this is the only time in 4 years of narrow boating we have had an experience of this nature. All boaters are aware of these things as are people in their day to day lives we are sure. Thanks J&M
Glad you made decision to move on .for all the lovely people that exist in the world there will always be one or two that spoil it for the majority. Stay safe & safe travels jeremy & Kim x

Toilet trained by 11weeks won't find a better bread for this.
Hmm maybe a dog is needed 🐕 💕💕 good suggestion
A dog isn’t just to scare people. Shameful
@@NHEFF09 did I at any point say that's a dogs sole job. Just one of many jobs they have been bred to do.

Absolutely thank you for your kind words 😀
I absolutely love them!
There really are some bell end tossers about. Nothing better to do than cause aggravation and trouble.
Safe journey and happy cruising to you both.
Thank you to you for your comment and yes we are and will be safe. x
Drugs my friend, maybe they didn't want you witnessing them dealing.......but a lot of drug dealing and drug running happens on the cut
Maybe 🤔

In broken Britain
All the best to you.👍
I had youth problems at Fobney Lock Reading in May forgot schools were off
A real nightmare as I am a single handed boater but so lucky another boater wanted to come up Michael so after two youths jumping into the lock in front of my boat as I entered I tried to stay calm but after coming from Newbury in yellow that's a exsperience in its own all the best from Dave !!
Hi Dave thanks so much for the comment. We've heard other horrid stories about boats being smeared outside with garlic mayonnaise..... don't fancy that one either! Hope you survived your Fobney Lock experience. School holidays is a tricky time of year for boaters we think.
Lovely couple...lovely friendship. Shows just how you can do anything when you're with the 'right' partner.
Hi Jackie & Michael
Glad the river levels went down and you were able to make progress again, you must get a sixth sense of where is safe to moor and Michael's judgement seems spot on
It must get difficult when you get stuck in one place especially for water and supplies
Take care the both of you
Lots of love

Hello both, hope you are well and enjoying life??? It was a challenging few days but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.... I think that's the saying.... Yep I know I can always trust Michael's instinct. Take care both of you J & M x

Hi Gary, yes it worked out ok in the end. Thanks for dropping us a comment. Hope you enjoy our onwards adventures. J & M
That's a coincidence, Ben of 'Ben and Emily' channel was playing in the Waterside on their last episode and they said the same thing about the houses looking like Netherlands houses! 😊
It's been interesting watching your footage of the floods, thank you 💜
Hi Suzie. Its a small world isn't it, they houses were so cute. So pleased you enjoyed our 'flood' escapades. Thank fully the weather looks a lot better now.
Being overcautious never harmed anyone. Would have done the exact same thing. Well done and keep safe
Hi yes you are very very correct. Thanks for your comment, its good to know. J&M
Trust your instincts.

Been mooring in loughborough for 26 years never ever had a problem 😮
You are very welcome so so pleased you are enjoying our travels. Keep watching lots more fun and games to come. x
Good Day Michael / Jackie
Seen this type of thing before with young girl that went away for a few days, boat was not were she left it facing the wrong way, and all the windows smashed in.
keep safe.
Hi there thanks for your comment and your concern. Yes its always a worry but we do a lot of research on where to leave the boat and as Michael is in charge of security I totally trust his judgement. We will stay safe. Thanks again.
I saw that too. The electrics control panel was smashed in as well...completely mindless.
@@cruisingontheborder It gets worse as it was my first ever cruise! There were a few dry-mouthed moments I can tell you 😀
My old patch, Barrow to Long Eaton … I NEVER moored anywhere in the towns or villages around there.
Sounds sensible to me.

Thank you so much for a joyful video that ended way too soon.
Lovely to hear from you and what a great comment ☺️ yes Michael is very 😎 and a great captain 🧑✈️. Hope you get chance to watch other episodes xx 😘
Wow, Frightening cruise that turned out to be, very glad you made the right decision and are safe! 😳❤

Hi and yes we understand and agree with your comment. You realise it's a sad world when you see and hear events like we didn't. Thankfully we are safe. Jackie & Michael
We lived in Mountsorrel for ten years. We used to walk the canal towpath to the pub on a Sunday for pop and crisps with the dog!
Beautiful part of the country and this section of the canal. Thank you for the comment and sharing your story 🙏
Hope you are enjoying the rest of the videos xx

glad youre ok! keep an eye out for Ben and Emily, you seem to be in the same area at the same time. 🙂
Hello.. hope you're ok, thanks for dropping us a little comment.
Hi wow that sounds amazing and great to know if we fancy a trip over the Irish Sea 😀😀
Maybeez an RPG with heat seeking targeting too?
Taser and bow and arrow 😂
There's always someone who will spoil a good day, you did the right thing moving on, if a gang of them were still thier in the evening you really don't know what they are capable of, people have become very anti social, good luck with your cruising
Thanks for your comment Jack, lovely to hear from you. We should say this is the only time in over4 years of cruising the UK waterways we have received this type of aggression. Long may we continue to be problem free. x

Yes Mark we have subsequently learnt that the section of the canal/river we were on is always a problem when there is a lot of rain. Thank fully we were ok in the end. Thanks for taking the time to to comment.
Thank you both again for a very good & interesting show.Enjoyed watching it.Keep safe, & all the best.😁
Our pleasure! Look forward to hearing from you again J x
New subscriber 🤚🏻 really enjoyed this. Looking forward to watching more and catching up too. Alway stay safe guys 🙏🏻
Hi 👋 so pleased you have subscribed and are loving our waterway’s adventures. Thank you we will be safe. 💕
I was on my 55ft Narrowboat, The Matrix for 8 years, solo female. Never moor up in towns and set off early before the school kids are about..
Great comment and yes agree with you 🥰 hope you’re catching up with our other episodes xx
Thank you very much for sharing Stay safe
Hi Lilo so lovely to hear from you. Thank you we will do and you. x
Thanks for the views, it's been years since I last visited Loughborough and Leicester
Hi thanks for the comment and we hope we gave you just a little look at both places, the good, bad and sometimes the ugly. All is good now and we are enjoying our onwards cruising north. x
I think nothing says I love you more than serving someone their favorite food .
As the old saying goes 'Better be safe than sorry'.
Totally Rob yes we agree with you. It took nothing for us to take the mooring lines in and move the mile further one. Right decision. Thanks for your comment.
Very interesting
love the whole narrow boat and cannel travel thing, I think its great and wondered about some more commercial urban areas where it goes though but that seemed rather nice or acceptable if I was staying in the boat, IMHO, but I would still have my carry on the boat or person which is not allowed in UK.
Ah ah we should say this is the only time in over four years of narrow boating in the UK we have had a problem. It is quite safe and we love it, wouldn't change it for the world. So pleased you love following our little adventures.
Always go with your gut feeling 👍
Totally, always. Thanks for your comment.
One of the prettiest “score haunts” you’d ever see.
The character probably did you guys a favour
Hi maybe you are right, it's the only time we've ever seen a problem on the canal side. We moved around the corner about 3/4 mile and were all good.
Thats how I saw Hardraw Force waterfall some years ago when I was up there.
I never have seen anything like it in this country - comparable to Niagara Falls !!
Scarey!
Hi thanks for your comment and yes it was scary but all worked out well in the end.
Hi j&m, thats a lovely boat. I was on a 60' narrowboat, only on the lea and stort though due to work needs. Great channel -subscribed.👍
Thanks J&M
