Dear Kiana, this was such an entertaining, interesting, beautiful, and captivating video. And I really liked the sounds. From the wonderful worldly style music to the sounds of the ocean. I feel like I got to go on this adventure with you. I would give anything on earth if I only could have. But then I wouldn't want throw off or impose on your peace of mind in solitude on your journey. I grew up in a sailing family as a young boy, and my father was a boat designer and builder of catamarans, and so when I stumbled on this video, it caught my eye. All these years and I never knew about Mr. Wharram's interesting life and quest to explore catamaran design and sailing adventures. The wharram's seem a lot slower than what I'm used to, but there are many things about them that are undeniably good. The first thing I noticed is the simplicity, balance, and the strength of the construction and rigging. The next is how functional, comfortable, and nice the interior space is. Then for it's length there is relatively very little structure above deck, which comes in handy when you don't want a lot of windage creating unnecessary drag slowing you down or blowing you off the heading that you want to keep. And the general design of the boat seems very sea worthy with the double ended hulls, it fits in nicely to the swells. I notice that you have many ocean sailing skills that seem to be instinctual like you may have spent some time sailing as you grew up. You seem to have a sixth sense about how to do what's right, safe, and pleasant. Just keep your eye out for harsh weather, high seas, and shallower oceans and coastlines where rogue waves might break. You seem to have every angle covered. I'm looking forward to seeing your next adventure. And above all you are one of the most beautiful women that I have ever seen in my entire life. Happy sails to you.
I am a fan of Pip Hare, and you are a beautiful contrast. I started sailing in the early fifties so that dates me somewhat. Take good care of yourself and your boat, and thanks for the lovely Atlantic crossing.
Dear Kiana, Years ago, I watched a documentary about surfing, The Endless Summer. It enticed me to surf the western US and Mexico for years. Had I seen this video back then, I would have sailed. What an extraordinary journey. What an extraordinary woman. Thank you for recording this.
This is one of the most delightfully understated sagas I've ever seen. You just hit the gas and flogged it across with an Iphone and a Garmin.. And that motor, you whipped it around like you were swinging a cat. And the music is superb. This is not your first rodeo. Many details were left unaddressed. That's how it is in a dream. You may have inaugurated a new form of journalism.

I think James and Hanneke would be proud. So much of the Wharram philosophy toward sailing is evident here, working with the sea instead of against it. Lovely video, safe travels for the future.

This is the kind of content we really want to see. It’s so joyful and authentic. I’d love to see more about your boat and your journey. Would be awesome if you’d reconsider and make more videos
I’m amazed how you mastered that passage with the navigation tools you had. Your calm demeanor is an inspiration to all. It gives me hope. Thank you!!!
Wayne I love her compass totally dig it , the whole boat has had many journeys i would say , the deck lovely old wood , the mast and boom wow , the sails not much life left in them I don’t think , Awesome boat love it, if it could talk , I would love to hear it’s stories .
The music, purity, naturalness, humbleness...it is so inspiring. Congratulations for having decided to follow your dreams and share them with us. Take care and keep going!
My oh my! What a chilled out video! Not at all what i expected from an Atlantic crossing! Big waves and strong winds were not part of the show! You made the Atlantic feel a lot less scary! And the boat, wow! Looks so .. organic that it's like one of the elements of nature. It held you so kindly! Thank you for the encouragement! Best wishes from Crete! Yannis.
All of my life I've always done what others have wanted me to do. I've always wanted to do this since I was a young man. Your video brought tears to my eyes and now I hope to find a boat soon. I don't know if I could do that but I want to be on the water doing what I want to do for sure. Congratulations.
I love the way you make it look so casual as if you just decided you are going sailing. To me it's obvious your experience at sea and I identify with you for keeping it simple, minimum amount of electronic instruments, electric devices and engines. And the skills to build and repair stuff as needed while navigating your craft across an ocean. Modest, humble and clever. Keep it up, and pass it on. Thanks for sharing
Quite possibly one of the finest sailing videos I have seen. A landlubber like me comes to see sailing videos to experience the romance of the sea, to live vicariously through those who have been more fortunate or braver to leave land behind. Often, sailing videos focus on the technology, on wind vanes and route plotting software and the latest doodads on board, but this video is different. Simple, beautiful, with absolutely lovely music, it struck a chord with me like no other. Well done, and may you always have fair winds and following seas. And thanks for sharing your adventure and allowing us to come along. 🙏🏾
Kiana you are an inspiration to not only women to chase their dreams but also to older people like myself that will now get off their ass and get out there and just do it. Luv ya your great
I'm blown away. What a crazy / amazing / beautiful journey. As others have said in the comments - this is pure, unadulterated adventure that's about as raw as it gets. I sincerely wish you the best on all of your future journeys!!
I was initially speechless while watching your video in amazement! Once in a while the world offers up a treasure like this. You and your journey is an absolute gem!! My congratulations on your successful solo adventure that has touched me in an unexpected way. My best wishes to you in the future young lady. Fair winds and happiness!
@@kianaweltzien4469 You're most welcome! It comes as no shock to me that you are surprised about the attention you got...that's exactly why you are so deserving of all the praise!
@@HuldraX. I've made the Guadalupe trip twice with you. Count the back button freeze time, about 3 x's. I read all comments, like all those men I am captive of your light & breezy self, enchanted in your romance. Wanting your next journey to have a 1st mate for peace of mind, sound sleep for hours.
What a lovely sail! Is anyone else mesmerized by the sky at 18:27 ?? Finally, a sailor that doesn't drama everything up. Yes, some people experience hardship a sea, but it seems like a lot of UA-cam sailors live for the drama not for the sailing. Thank you Kiana for bringing us along :)
I have to keep revisiting your film. It is very authentic and raw. Not a glamour cruise. Excellent adventure. Yours and Emma Ringqvist film are two that I keep coming back to. I wish you have the best in life. Cheers.
I loved your video. Many years ago I contemplated purchasing a sailboat and bought property in the mountains instead. I gave up the freedom of navigation for the anchor of land. But, at 73 years old, I still feel the lure of the sea. You have beauty and spirit and whoever becomes your partner in life will be a very lucky person!
One of the best sailing videos I’ve seen on UA-cam! Thanks for taking us along and sharing your positivity and sunsets. Epic. I dream of/focus on coastal cruising but this makes me think the wide open ocean looks ok.
"It's not the destination... its the journey!" This video encapsulates that ethos perfectly. Kiana, you are one of a kind, inspiring, authentic, beautiful and brave. I can't wait for your documentary. Congratulations on all you have achieved, and for all that you will achieve I wish you fair winds and following seas! Take care.
This is what a video about a dream is. Smart and beautiful Kiana nailed it. It radiates peace, we all felt it. Thank you a thousand time for sharing something so meaningful and beautiful .Thank you.
wow, this is an amazing video. I think this might be my favorite ocean crossing youtube video. firstly the vibe is amazing. the boat is fascinating! there is so much rustic unfinished wood. the mast and boom appear to be whole trees. the main sail look like it's made from a discarded jib, I can see the UV wear strip on it. And there is even a little shack with a tin roof (and solar panel) on deck! but also the way you express the emotional journey of the trip is unlike any other sailing video I've seen on this site. so raw and authentic.
@@kianaweltzien4469 thank you for making it! I realized that what I am really want when I read or watch a sailing story is I want to see people taken to the edge. That could mean the edge of their ability or to be with nature. It probably means both fear and joy. It's an inner journey as well as an outer journey.
Wowww speechless. The most natural and yet apealing sailing vlog ever on you tube. Kiana you are best keep it up and keep inspiring! From time to time, in our lives others touch and inspire us. They are no; angels, prophets, saviours, messiahs or influencers. Just kind free souls balancing the equation in a world of hate against live, nature and freedom. Thanks Kiana for your positive energy.
Vc da roça para o mar, eu do mar para roça. Sempre com a natureza no entorno. Muitas semelhanças. Aqui no sítio me acho em um barco poitado. Boas viagens.
Beautiful video and a beautiful boat. Thank you. Good message at the end. You are right, doors open. I'm living in a tent motorcycling South America after crossing the Atlantic. I've had nothing but good experiences.
I just loved watching this . I love that you're just so into being out there. You do it so simply and you film it in such a beautiful way that it captures the essence of the trip, of the movement from one side of the ocean to the other. And what a woman! Good on you, you're an inspiration ! Finally I loved seeing a gaff rig on UA-cam, only way to go! Keep on filming girl, you're so good!
Such a brave and strong minded lady! Crossing an ocean is already daring, but with that old almost homemade vessel is beyond limits - I am deeply impressed! Congrats, Kiana. And worth respectfully mentioning: such a please to the eyes...
It is a home made. Wharram design, Narai mk I . Search Wharram design - informative site with all info and many designs. Almost all for amateur builders.
It's been four years since I'm back on land... but after watching your little film... I think I started to realize what I miss so much and why I at home I don't feel like home. So I must wish you fair winds... and a big thank you for waking up that desire to go back at sea... where I belong. Absolutely amazing... both the little film and also your adventure. You made me feel like I was out at sea again. P.S. Funny that all sailing adventures start in Miami )) I was anchored for two years in front of the Flamingo building at the end of Lincoln Road.
You are amazing!! Thank you so much for doing what you love, following your heart and sharing it in this pure and beautiful way. My soul feels nourished :)
My time for adventure and sailing is gone. Whether I wanted it or not, the passion remained unchanged, just like in the times when it was enough for a guy from our entourage to come up with an idea, and the rest of us, without even a minute to think, jumped to make it happen however impossible and crazy that idea may seem. Dear Kiana, in November on the 24th I will be 65 years old and I can say that until now, I have met very few people as true and with such a strong character as yours. Kiana, without a doubt, the video you posted is an inspiration to all young people of your age and not only. It is strong and sensitive, true and dreamy, and last but not least, balm for the soul. All at the same time. It is the truest of all the navigation videos posted by UA-camrs and seen by me so far. Thank you, stay as you are, never change! Fair winds and following seas, ma'am, always!
You aren't too old, just go sailing. You can do it even if you don't own a boat: There're boat clubs, and OPB (Other People's Boat) as well as racing (regattas) you can participate in on OPB or a boat club's boat
I'm so thrilled and impressed with your journey and how brave you're! So connected to yourself, to your boat, to the sea and nature. What an inspiring young women you're. Please keep taking us with you to all those beautiful places and experience. Bons ventos 🇧🇷
Yay!🎉 I found your channel. Im so excited to sub and follow. I just watched your interview on SAL channel and was so overwhelmed...... I don't have other eords to express. I look forward to following and supporting. All the best Kiana 🏆
Your an absolute inspiration to me, I have a 5 month old daughter that I look forward to showing her this video one day so that she might take inspiration also. Thank you for sharing your adventures with the world. David. 👍😊
Your calm and attitude are unique. What a nice way to let us enjoy your journey. I was living on and sailing for 11 years on my own boat. I am too old now for this fun. Thank you, and all the best
Dear Kiana. I am preparing a 33ft, 40 year old Sailboat to be my home, my castle and all. I am in Spain, preparing last things to start to sail to Gran Canaria and cross then the Atlantic. I am very positively surprised about your Boat. It is a very simple, proven design, yes but more so about you. Your personality, your smile are wonderfull. You truly spend inner peace, hope and warmth. Simply beautyfull to see a woman, so different and at peace with very little. God bless you. Your video is very inspiring. Thank you
On the morning of the thirtyfith day of a Southern Ocean crossing from Cape Town to Albany Australia, I was alone above deck on first watch at 3am in the morning when I spotted a faint light. At first I thought it was a ship, but after staring intensely for what felt like ages, another light appeared faintly, then another, and then the realization that it was land sunk in. One of the most intense feelings I've ever had. Still remember it like it was yesterday, over thirty years later. Your lovely little film reminded me of that moment, and the journey. What a feeling of freedom being pushed through the water with huge forces. The wind and the weather and the water all pushing past. Sometimes calm and gentle, sometimes adrenaline inducing. What a feeling, and it's (mostly) free. Awesome piece of cinematography, thanks!
Brilliant, inspiring, incredible gutsy and brave ... that is what this young "sailor-girl" is all about . What a beautiful, peaceful, calm and to me, overwhelming video. Wish her nothing but the best !!!
I grew up on an island and I spent the last decade at sea as merchant mariner; this video makes my heart yearn and ache in all the ways that make the human experience beautiful - Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for this. I used to have this kind of emotions whole crossing mountains alone, for weeks. And you just made me realise that the sea can offer precisely the same thing. Food for thought. And respect to you.
Dear Kiana, amazing video of the crossing, kudos on all your adventure, love to see more of your journey and your style of videos, very laidback and calm..Thank you and stay safe.
UA-cam has certainly opened up my world to some wonderful people, you young lady are well beyond wonderful. You're a rarity, love every single thing about your channel! You've most definitely hit the top spot for my UA-cam sailing channel!
Just stumbled over your video, and what a gem it is. Thanks for bringing us over the Atlantic with you. Best wishes on the rest of your journey through life.
Your one of my heroes as a women solo sailor. I only discovered sailing in my fifty’s with my hubby. If I had discovered it before I got married I definitely would of been a solo sailor. Bravo 👏
Your video just popped up in my feed. What an amazing woman. Such a casual approach, like" I think I will cross the Atlantic today", just wow, and solo too. What an experience and amazing journey it must have been. That boat looks so old and rickety but obviously capable of such a voyage.
What a wonderful voyage and I love your relaxed attitude. Great boats, I had a Wharram for almost 20 years, owned with a group of women friends and we had so many adventures and beautiful times. Keep making the videos!
@@kianaweltzien4469 We bought the Wharram in Key West, it was built by a local guy there, was only 3 years old and he was ready to build his next boat so he sold it to us. We kept it in the Florida Keys and every winter we would meet up to go sailing in the Bahamas or the Keys and Everglades. A core group of 5or 6 of the 10 women owners would spend the whole winter aboard and the others would cycle in to wherever we were for a week or however long they could manage. We loved going to remote and uninhabited places, being immersed in nature. I have many wonderful memories of those times!
Kiana, this was an amazing video you made in sailing from Canary Islands. Very enjoyable to me. I'm most impressed with the fact that your NOT on a $500,000 yacht. Your sailing a pretty old vessel it appears. Your charm, bravery, and determination is truly the grit you have to be alone and do your thing here. I give you 👍up for safety on the seas and to fulfill your dreams. I'll be watching for more. Cheers. ⛵️
Dear Kiana I used to sail a lot on the Adriatic, it's a small sea compared to the oceans. There are also Adriatic winds of 70 knots, and because of the many islands there is shelter, but it can also be dangerous. I was not lucky enough to meet a Lady like you who enjoys modest and small things. God willing, I will soon set sail in this way myself, but on a trip around the world. I know Wharram catamarans well, I built a Tiki 31 when I was twenty, but because of the war in Croatia in the nineties, it was destroyed and afterwards there were never enough dollars to rebuild it. I'm one of those who could sail with a woman like you and only occasionally stop by land. I wish you a calm sea, lots of happiness and a kindred spirit with whom you will brighten up these moments of solitude, happiness and sadness. Dubravko.
The Carnary Islands are quite a crossroads for cruisers. When I passed through there during my Eastabout singlehanded circumnavigation most of the sailors I met were headed west across the Atlantic, but I was headed to South Africa on the next leg of my trip. I moved ashore again a few years ago, but as Jimmy Buffett sang, "so many nights I just dream of the ocean, God I wish I was sailin' again". (Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes)
This is a crazy adventure, unlike any other I have seen on UA-cam. That you did this by yourself on a rustic homemade boat is very unusual. Your filming, editing, choice of music is spot on. Good luck on your future travels. I am looking forward to tuning in.
I just spent the day once againdigging rot out of my old Tangaroa and came home feeling a little despondent, and then stumbled across this video and now I’m inspired again! Amazing voyage, you are a natural and your love for what you are doing is so beautifuly apparent. Hope to see you out there some day. Thank you :)
Dear Kiana! Thank you for this video, everything in it is great!!! The ocean, sunrises, sunsets, music, of course you) but most beautiful of all, this happiness is in your eyes, on your face and in your speeches! What you do and the way you do it lifts my spirit. Good luck!
I love your calm peaceful way of presenting your content. It is anything but boring. Your pleasing editing draws me into your passage. It’s as if I’m traveling with you. Your style is so calming. I just discovered your channel and look forward to more hours of viewing. Wharram cats are by far the simplest and most economical passage makers. I love them.
What an incredible journey! Kiana you are such a capable and inspiring young lady. Strong too...you lift that outboard motor like it's a feather. The world needs more wonderful stories like yours. Congratulations from Canada:)
Wow Kiana! I write this from my T38 hull with my girlfriend and dog - anchored somewhere on my way to Tioman in East Malaysia. Somehow it made me realize how lucky I am to be here doing this. Your images and videos and music are awesome! They bring an amazing vibe and scream happiness - contagious happiness :) Sometimes in a few months we will be sailing west again and one day cross the Indian ocean - I miss the indescriptible feeling of a long passage - you brought it back and I thank you!
Must be quite amazing to be able to follow your adventures spirit wherever it takes you! Thanks for bringing me along. If only I could go for the long trip!
When I was your age, back before the internet, I did a lot of traveling. It started because I was homeless as a kid and I decided to make an adventure of it, I guess. I lived in all kinds of vehicles and did a lot of thru hiking. It was magical and terrible at times. It was hard to come back to the "real world" when I started having kids but it was the only way I could give them the stability that they needed. You are tapping into that magic of travel and life in rhythm with the elements and I appreciate that you encourage others to do the same. But, please don't forget that most people do not have the privilege to ever feel as free as you do and that we have a responsibility to do what we can to create a world where everyone can be as free. I hope you keep making videos and continue to live courageously. Take care.
You wrote in the video description that this was a long boring scenic video. It is not boring at all. I watch a lot of sailing videos and enjoyed this one a lot. It was great to see someone out there on a Wharram catamaran. This was a wonderful slice of life of sailing across the Atlantic on a catamaran. Thanks for making and sharing this and inspiring person to do more with their lives and to make their dreams come true. I am very happy to subscribe and think you're going to have a very popular channel if you continue making videos like this.

You do realize that you are an old soul and your spiritual side is very much present in all that you do. Thank you for spreading your charisma.
A lot of sailors are
Yannis.
You're amazing!
This video is a true gem! Hope to see another one from you in the future!
All of my life I've always done what others have wanted me to do. I've always wanted to do this since I was a young man. Your video brought tears to my eyes and now I hope to find a boat soon. I don't know if I could do that but I want to be on the water doing what I want to do for sure. Congratulations.
Closing in on ONE MILLION views, and so well deserved! Still my biggest encouragement to find a used Wharram and sail away 🤗
😄😄
Wow! Captivating. And I’ve never seen such perfect weather in on a crossing. Thanks for showing us your journey.
Kiana you are an inspiration to not only women to chase their dreams but also to older people like myself that will now get off their ass and get out there and just do it. Luv ya your great
This could be one of the less words video ,onestly made , with sincere emotions I have ever seen . you made a piece of art , thank you .
Thank you SO MUCH for your kind words! I would have never expected this video to have such an impact...
Once again over the Atlantic with you as captain 🙂 Still a wonderful sail and I enjoyed every minute
@22:37-39... She get's it! This video gives me Bernard Moitessier "The Long Route" vibes. Really good sailing content!

Essa mulher é muito guerreira merece muito o respeito de todos...
Wow, this is just impressive. Happy I found this video!
thanks for taking me with you. pure quality.
Just so chilled and wonderful... I really loved your videos. Thank you for sharing them with us. They show another world in such a beautiful way!
One of the best sailing videos I’ve seen on UA-cam! Thanks for taking us along and sharing your positivity and sunsets. Epic. I dream of/focus on coastal cruising but this makes me think the wide open ocean looks ok.
There's nothing like the wide open ocean.... the routine, the flow, the impermanence... Sending you fair winds! Thanks for your kind words.
"It's not the destination... its the journey!"
This video encapsulates that ethos perfectly.
Kiana, exemplo de coragem e liberdade.
Muita felicidade e muita proteção pra você.
De Curitiba , PR, Brasil.
wow, this is an amazing video.
Thank you so much for such kind words and I’m so happy this video evoked all of those emotions for you!!!!
@@kianaweltzien4469 thank you for making it! I realized that what I am really want when I read or watch a sailing story is I want to see people taken to the edge. That could mean the edge of their ability or to be with nature. It probably means both fear and joy. It's an inner journey as well as an outer journey.
Kiana, you are a real She of the Sea, a website created by Jenny Matthews from New Zealand. Good luck. Enjoy our beautiful Ocean Planet.
Down to Earth :) Awesome :)
Amazing how you could carry around that heavy outboard, nice video
Way to go Kiana! You definitely win, thanks for sharing your adventure!
You go girl, love your philosophy, your heart and your spirit. Fair winds.
I hope you write a book one day

Thank you so much Alistair!
Excellent video, enjoyed the ocean action and your encouragement for others to just get out there and do it.
Cheers from New Zealand.
Dude! Why too old, DO IT!
I did at seventy and at 75still doing it so go for it
Sven Yrvind is still getting after it at 84!
You aren't too old, just go sailing.
You can do it even if you don't own a boat: There're boat clubs, and OPB (Other People's Boat) as well as racing (regattas) you can participate in on OPB or a boat club's boat
The spirit of adventure on display. You are amazing.
I'm so thrilled and impressed with your journey and how brave you're! So connected to yourself, to your boat, to the sea and nature. What an inspiring young women you're. Please keep taking us with you to all those beautiful places and experience. Bons ventos 🇧🇷
Wow. Great stuff. First time on your channel. Perfect soundtrack, and biggest adventure. Living vicariously through you. You are very brave. Blessings
David. 👍😊
Wow, what an honor David. Thank YOU.
Your calm and attitude are unique. What a nice way to let us enjoy your journey. I was living on and sailing for 11 years on my own boat. I am too old now for this fun. Thank you, and all the best
Priceless
Thank YOU so much
Your one of my heroes as a women solo sailor.
Wonderful, inspiring and amazing, thx for sharing and taking the time to put this together!
Thank you. You have inspired a lot of people in taking a chance with life.
What a wonderful voyage and I love your relaxed attitude. Great boats, I had a Wharram for almost 20 years, owned with a group of women friends and we had so many adventures and beautiful times. Keep making the videos!
Wow that's amazing Julia! Where was this boat? In the UK?

Cheers. ⛵️
Thank you so much! I would never be able to afford sailing any other way 😅
@@kianaweltzien4469 you are rich in so many other ways!
This is one of the most inspiring video's I have ever seen on UA-cam !!!
Dear Kiana
I used to sail a lot on the Adriatic, it's a small sea compared to the oceans.
Dubravko.
I know how you feel. Did solo for years. Nothing beats it. Including the landfall. Cherish it.
Hello Kiana, what an exiting adventure ! Nice quality film, you have a lot of courage!
Офигеть, ты потрясающая! Я живу очень далеко от моря, но не могу перестать мечтать о нем. Спасибо, что подарили его частичку.
Nice. Just all-around beautiful. Thank-you for this wonderful creation. Love it
This is truly magnificent to me: one woman, one small wooden sailboat, crossing the Atlantic Ocean with zero fear ❤😁
Thank you. What an inspiration you are. Looking forward to your videos.
This is amazing, I admire the courage to cross the Atlantic solo in your Wharram.
Rafraîchissante de simplicité!
Je te remercie du partage douce aventurière XX
They bring an amazing vibe and scream happiness - contagious happiness :)
Sometimes in a few months we will be sailing west again and one day cross the Indian ocean - I miss the indescriptible feeling of a long passage - you brought it back and I thank you!
Thank you for your kind words Patrick! I'm so excited for your excitement! Life is crazy cool.
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Kiana how long have you been living aboard!!! I am so impressed by your navigation skills and to take on such a passage alone is quite incredible we also live aboard in the UK you are quite a inspiration to many people on this platform keep the videos coming xx
Impressive. Real adventure. Going small, simple and now.
Thank you Kiana from Greece. I hope to see more of you and your sailing. Absolutely wonderful.
You are amazing ❤
