The secret tournament was a brilliant piece of art though, legendary levels indeed. Don't underestimate the signing of Ronaldo in the 90ies and putting him at the same level of Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Michael Johnson at the time. He was one the most recognizable global athletes at the time. Incredible marketable. If he had lived in the time of social media, it would have blown up with his impact on the game. What Messi did in his solo efforts, started with Ronaldo (and also a bit with Maradona).
R9. After that came R10, CR7, etc. almost copy pasting what they did for Ronaldo.

CR7 literally is the highest followed person on instagram lol and hes played longer and will play more years. CR7 is also more marketable because he speaks English so dont foregt that and his physique.

I like the channel, but this time some information was misleading and the rest was pretty much surface information. Having elections in the same year as World Cup is mere coincidence and in no such way "Nike made Brazil internationally famous". Marketing sure helps, but sympathy comes from decades of success and disruption - the Seleção showed the world how a developing country was able to beat richer rivals again and again (and again, and again, and again). Regarding CBF thieves, there is material for a whole season.

He actually did have a seizure the night before the match. It scared the whole team to a point where some teammates were crying and no one was able to sleep. Doctors couldn't find anything wrong with him so he begged the staff to play the final. As a brazilian, I recognize that France was the better side during that World Cup and would probably win it anyway, but a 3x0 win over Brazil can only be truly understood when you take into account what happened the night before.

I'm Brazilian and I confirm EVERYTHING! all of us here in Brazil think that that match against France was bought so that our team would be champions in the next cup, but what makes Brazilians angry is not the question of the match against France being sold, which makes us angry and the fact that we would win the 2 world cups if the Zidane x Ronaldo World Cup wasn't sold. 🇧🇷
Ah a video suggestion: talk about the Brazilian clubs that started to be bought by European companies, Red Bull bought Bragantino, John Textor bought Botafogo, Ronaldo bought Cruzeiro and rumors that an Italian company is going to buy a club in the interior of São Paulo. ❤️

    • @jonnyso1

All of us ? ahahaah Most people don't think much about it. I would even grant the possibility of Nike pressuring Ronaldo to go in since he was their main product, but saying they bought it its just silly. The doctor said he could play, so he did. You can't even say they lost because of it, France wasn't weak either and I doubt they wouldn't be studying the curret World Champions upgraded with the best player in the world even before the torunament started.

One of my first futbol shirts was the Brazilian one in 1997.
The one they used for the Copa America and Confederations Cup of 1997.
It was Nike and it had Ronaldo’s name and number 9.
Also had a Italy Nike shirt used in the Euro 96.
Back then Italy didnt show the brand on their shirts, but they were Nike.
This one didnt have no name or number.
I wished it was Paolo Maldini number 3.
From those days when i was 7 or 8 Nike became my favorite brand.

The signing of Brazil and the signing of R9 was the inception of Mike football. Nike football had been on the market for 2 years already but didn’t take off until R9, by being the best player of the world at that time
And also Brazil being the first and only Nike team of 1998. And then of course Ronaldinho carried Nike from there on and that stride expanded when Cristiano Ronaldo joined.

Around that time, Nike signed three south american powerhouses: Chilean club Colo-Colo was the first ever South American football deal that Nike did in 95, just to test the waters. Then Brazil came, and around the time Maradona retired for good in 97, Nike signed Boca Juniors.
Nike's association with Colo-Colo was cut in 2002 when the club entered administration, and Boca's ties with the swoosh ended just a few years ago. Now both teams are signed with Adidas on way less money.
Also, Nike wanted to conquer the South American market with very aggressive moves: In the middle of Wimbledon 1997, they signed Marcelo Rios, the first ever South American world number one from Adidas, and put him with signature footwear straight away.

nike has always used underhand tactics from way back. once my country in africa sent young athletes to world champs where they performed beyond expectation and by the next day they had signed deals with nike and management team had no knowledge of. they produce good sneakers though

Guys love your work, videos, knowladge but please be carefull about promoting/sponsoring such an app (at the end) regarding its possible negative effects. In my oppinion it sounds fucking controversial to let AN APP tell you how to live.

The funny thing is that since the 90s Brazil lost the joga bonito.
They still produced special players but they play like European team.

I mean you have to play like a European team now or you'll lose convincingly.

You should probably make a video on why a WC has not gone to Latin America for almost 2 decades since 2002. Do Latin America football on a decline ?
