lol imagine being the account manager at Adidas having to go into a board meeting saying you’ve just lost the German National team 😬
Executives initial reaction anger, shouting "How?". Guy goes "Sir, Nike offered double" and then just silence in the boardroom.
Probably we will see Adidas giving more money to some national teams, maybe even clubs. Idk if they can afford losing another big name.
account manager doesn’t negotiate deals like this, CEO for sure sat at the table himself

German here: DFB needs money and Nike pays significantly more than Adidas.
That's why Adidas lost.

Right. DFB should have signed the deal for free. I guess you will love it if your employer is paying you less than you think you deserve.
I understand why the DFB choose Nike given the much better offer. However as a German I think it’s quite sad that we have two of the three biggest sports apparel manufacturers in our country and yet our most important national team is going to be supplied by an American company. Let’s hope Adidas or Puma will have a better offer in 2034.
_"However as a German I think it’s quite sad that we have two of the three biggest sports apparel manufacturers in our country and yet our most important national team is going to be supplied by an American company."_
It is bittersweet irony, but also an example that shows the post-1989 reality in Germany, which has been this increasing colonization by American corporatism and consumerism taking over the country.
@@victorsamsung2921 Nah it’s not that deep. Nike made a much better offer and the DFB went for it. Apparently Adidas took the contract for granted so they didn’t really try hard enough.
@@JR-ut2ne Nike only paid this much, because its Germany. The Nationalteam is at the lowest right now, Volkswagen right now pays 28 Millionen per Year, but because of the poor results the only want to pay 20 Millionen in the new Contract.
@@victorsamsung2921 Germany has been a vassal of America and international jewry since 1945. It hasn't had a shred of patriotism in almost 100 years. Wake up Germans your problems go deeper than a football kit. Your are occupied by a satanic force that has been trying to destroy you for over 100 years.
@@JR-ut2ne It kind of is that deep as this was a historical partnership, Adi Dassler used to be part of the national teams crew during WC/EC's, it's a relationship unmathed in the sports world, so it really is not just another business deal. Also Nike are paying way more than what that contract is worth, it's a move to strike Adidas right in their heart

It’s not even 75 years to be honest… I mean they had their football boots modified by Adolf Dassler for the 1954 World Cup and wore Adidas tracksuits in the following tournaments (still with jerseys from a different brand underneath), but the first Adidas jersey was worn only in 1980, much more recent. I'm supprised that no one is mentioning that Nike is positioned very well to become a monopoly in the sports ware space, and that outcome will definitely not be positive for the fans or the teams, and organisations that they sign contracts with. We can already see the ways in which Nike has used their position to dilute and damage the images of sports teams and leagues in the US. The abysmal NBA jurseys for example, which are poor quality and suffer from frequent tears, and where they have flooded the market with so many alternate and anniversary jerseys. I hope that we can all see and notice the ways in which Nike has already begun cutting corners and that they will only do so more agrresively once they control even more of the market.
Then small, better brands like New Balance and Under Armour will come up. Don't worry.
Don't forget Nike taught us all a valuable lesson when they persistently implied the majority of us are racists.

Honestly man our public is just soo backward it's laughable, and I'm not talking only about this brand subject but overall they just don't want spend even 2 more pounds on the tickets, that's for them more tragic than seeing the club go from 2nd to 15th in just 3 years or see us...the German national team become such a punching bag but its all good we have our "traditions" to cope with
tell Adidas to pay their country more instead of on other countries
Nike kits are trash even if you ignore this fiasco
@martinketchum which other country is adidas paying more money to ?
Germany jersey without adidas is sacrilegious. Man, thry made some insane bangers. I hope they go back to adidas
It's should be Puma if not Adidas. You can accept if England changed umbro to Nike, but when you had both Adidas and puma which one is giant roots of football and top two brand and one is rising, it's definitely bad things
No Adidas sacrilegious?
They wore Erima in the seventies.
No stripes at all.
Some bangers for sure. But they've gone out with a TERRIBLE kit. 👎👎
I mean atleast this year most germans will wear the Check 24 Jersey from Puma that is free as marketing
It was shocking to imagine German national team without Adidas kit even for a non German like myself ( I'm South African) atleast if it was Pumas it was going to be understandable it also a German sports brand
But nonetheless Nike is about to lose France, Brazil,Portugal and Barcelona so here's an opening for Adidas
I'm also South African
I don't think Adidas will suit Barça
Puma will
Barca and Adidas is like Nike and Germany. But Brazil, France X Adidas is gold for adidas.
Why is Brazil leaving nike
Ikr when I saw the title I assumed they switched to Puma, but woah it’s Nike.
Its easier for the CBF to cease to exist than Nike to left them
LFC fan here - adidas make better football kits than Nike. So do warrior and NB.
Nike’s kits are usually poorly designed and significantly more expensive which makes it hard for ordinary fans to buy.
Liverpool and Chelsea Adidas is banger. It's strange back then Manchester United is associated with Nike + aig/Vodafone, Liverpool is Adidas + standard chartered and Chelsea Adidas + Samsung. Now it's become opposite 😮
And now Liverpool are back to Adidas
In China there's another shoe-maker called Warrior (回力) too (though they make mainly training shoes for Chinese martial arts) so some people in Asia got excited thinking that they were making Liverpool's jerseys too

you're right there...and that's the problem...It's just about money and we german /european fans should have found a compromise or fought against it, but the Premier League just looked too good as a money machine that many other leagues and clubs couldn't withstand! But yeah, we germans have to find a way to accept regional, non-autocratic, non-political sponsors as money-donors unlike many top-clubs and unlike the premier league aso! Greetings
„Three more world cups followed in adidas shirts“ That is not true. The 75 years partnership refers to the shoes. Until 1963 leuze was supplying the kits then umbro. Erima was supplying the kits for the world cup 74 and 78 while adidas gave them jackets shoes…, but adidas bought erima in 1976. The stripes and logo are only on the shirts since 80s.
Its because of that common misconception that the whole thing was such a big deal in tbe first place.
You are right, would have been better to say "three more world cups followed with Adidas as a partner". Thanks for the correction :)
Before the 1980s, Adidas was not the official kit supplier for World Cup teams. Teams like West Germany wore Adidas shoes and had Adidas as a sponsor, but other companies supplied the kits.
In the 1970s, Adidas acquired Erima, which supplied kits for the World Cup before Adidas branding became prominent on shirts.
In the 1980s and onwards, Adidas began to feature its logo and the iconic three stripes on official team shirts for the World Cup.
Adidas' involvement with the World Cup spans many years, but the distinct branding with the three stripes and logo on team shirts started to consistently appear from the 1980s onwards.
Prior to this, while Adidas may have been involved through footwear and sponsorship, the kits were not branded as Adidas.

It's Great to see many Germans saying it's sad that their team is not having a company of their nation as the kit supplier.
Meanwhile, In our country, we don't even have a kit manufacturer 1/10th of Adidas value..
I hope the DFB returns to Adidas or goes to Puma in 2034. These trends (replacing our European products - cars, clothes, parfumes, machines with American and Chinese ones) should stop if we want to have adequate economic growth and stability!
Won't Germany have bigger problems come the end of this decade than what shirt 11 dandies are wearing? Where are you guys going to get your cheap energy now that German politicians are no longer colluding with Putin?
Then pay for it. This is not anything new, Adidas got away with not paying market rate for so long, they almost lost the German team in the early 2000’s. Should have been prepared for a battle like this. Unless they don’t have the money, which is apparently the case.
I think what most people who are not from germany dont understand are the insane feelings that are associated with football in germany. its hard to explain really but its the same reason why we dont want our clubs to become puppets of countries or billionaires like city, chelsea and so on......football belongs to the people, at least thats the main thinking in germany.....adidas has a different standing then nike, it feels more like a capital(NIKE) driven move rather then beeing driven by emotions(ADIDAS) if that makes sense.....really hard for me to find the right words in english tbh.....
its justified that the DFB took the nike deal on a financial basis, no discussion there, but its still extremly sad for me as a german to see this happen.....we just managed to stop the investment of an american company in the bundesliag itself and now this, just 2 months before the EUROS.....sad but still acceptable......dont think the DFB will do a lot of good with that extra money tbh, so sad the biggest football association is beeing led by a bunch of noobs......
You should all collectively NOT buy any German Nike shirt to force de DFB to go back to Adidas as soon as possible.
I’m 100% a Nike stan and tbh am not big into futbol but this really just seems wrong. I sympathize with the whole of Germany right now. Especially considering how Nike treats its own national club, like an afterthought. Although I’d imagine at this point they’re paying DFB more to outfit that team than they’re paying the USMNT
How about you guys stop importing our LNG too. I do understand your Anti American bias tho, when I see VW driving on American roads and think of the German "nahh-ccc's" it pisses me off. How can a company complicit in the murder of 7M innocent people be allowed in America. BTW, I hope it was us who deleted Nord Stream. Arm up and good luck, "winter is coming".
@@christopherjones8367 You don't understand public corporations. There is no emotions, sole goal is to make money. Doesn't matter its Adidas or Nike or insert any other brand. And same goes for DFB. If USMNT was as valuable as DFB Nike will pay them readily.

The problem is Brazil had some of the biggest stars in the game during those commercials. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo etc. Germany doesn't have those kind of names. Also, after that WC win in 2002 they haven't fielded a side that looks like it could win a WC. So they got money and now nearly 20 years of an average national team. Their best result in that time period is coming in 4th at the 2014 tournament in their own country.

Which is trash, sorry mate! The german philosophy is just different....be as humble as possible and put ALWAYS the team in front! The main difference is, that Nike, as mentioned in the video, promotes the individual player, which often promotes himself as well(as CR7, Neymar, aso) in stark contrast to Adidas, which promotes especially the german national team in a different and lower way! As well as the german players just normally have the character to promote themselves via behaviour and appearance, besides of course Ads! Greetings from Germany :)

Even a German basketball legend like Dirk was with Nike and some of the current Germany player in the NBA like Daniel Theis and Franz Wagner is with Nike. I don't have the current Adidas basketball shoes but in my opinion they look better than the Nikes and Jordans, also people said they perform better than those two. But we can't ignore the fact that they are lackluster in signing player, even Nike got Sabrina from WNBA and the fact that now LeBron is more cemented to Liverpool. Adidas can't even signed a former NBA Finals MVP and European superstar Nikola Jokic (he recently signed with a Chinese company 361⁰ after his contract with Nike), I imagine European would be crazy if Jokic had a signature shoes with the biggest European sports brand. Heck, even European stars are with another brand such as Giannis (Nike), Luka (Jordan), Markkanen (Nike), Sabonis (Nike), Gobert (Nike) and even the rookie sensation Wembanyama (Nike). Saw what you did there sir 😅
adidas felt betrayed because, DFB didnt even tell adidas that nike offered them that much or to counter offer the nike deal. THEY JUST DO IT
The topic we all been waiting for. Thank you
In this respect, the DFB did not behave respectfully towards Adidas. However, I don't think Adidas would have made a counteroffer that was twice as high as their own (55 million). Adidas was probably too sure because of the long time with the DFB.
Adidas took the DFB for granted and believed that Germany will never accept an offer from a rival (even Puma) even if the rival offer is financially better for 'national pride' reasons. The offer Nike had put on the table was significantly bigger than what Adidas was wanting to shell out and was impossible to refuse. We should not forget the underhanded tactics like government officials intevening to push the DFB accepting offer from Adidas which were of LESSER value than what Nike was offering. This is karma years in the making and Adidas can blame no one but themselves - the DFB did nothing wrong.
I feel like it’s going to backfire massively though, people in Germany don’t want Nike shirts which make terrible kits anyway. From a marketing standpoint it just makes no sense to pick someone like Germany whos people have been so used to wearing Adidas for so long. Interesting to see shirt sales and how the public reacts to these jerseys, Nike is playing with fire here..

DFB was never the same after that glorious night in brazil
Couldn't adidas just matched the offer?
There's another fitting German proverb. "Die treuesten Kunden sind die dümmsten."
Quite the opposite, I think. Adidas has let a bunch of shirt deals with smaller to medium clubs (also a significant amount of german teams) run out and decided to only pursue the biggest in the business. This is fine in itself but then offering less than half of what your main competitor does, is a thing I just can't wrap my head around.
Besides, the only political messaging brought into that decision is coming from people who would rather want the DFB to have stayed with Adidas. The change to Nike was a sound financial decision without political implications
Great pronunciation of the German player names. It's minor, but very much appreciated.

Call me a Boomer but this is a bigger disgrace to German Football than our downfall after the 2014 World Cup. Germany and Adidas belong together like Christmas and Santa Claus, Tom and Jerry, Phineas and Ferb. We wouldn't be in this situation if the DFB wouldn't have blown out hundreds of millions Euros for a prestige HQ nobody needs. @@jasonliao8811 true, thank you for pointing that out. The England deal was announced when Nike owned Umbro.
Some things should be more important than money...
Very well put together video, enjoyable. But.
If you don't have 10 spare minutes and just want to know the answer:
- Why Adidas Lost Germany?
- Nike paid more.
Now DFB has to contend with the entire portfolio of Nike. They are gonna see how quickly they'll be put on the back burner among all the other teams vying for marketing time in Nike
Short Answer MONEY! 💰
Also Robert Habeck using words like Unpatriotic is quite ironic.
It would be epic if DFB chose Puma as Adidas replacement 🤣
woher kenne ich deine Stimme?
These companies have trained the masses well if they actually want ads on their jerseys. Fans of the NHL resent the intrusion of corporate logos but Euros apparently are fine with crass commercialism.
I recognise money is the ultimate driver in this move, however, sometimes clubs/countries and kit makers can only go so far and as a result designs become either uninspiring or unconvincing.
I noticed this with France and their relationship with Adidas. Through the 70s and 80s they had some of the most iconic kits and the 1998 strip is a classic. From 98 they had so many nice looking kits but none of them made an impact. They just seemed to come and go. I don't think France have had a classic kit since they went to Nike, however, all of the designs to press have shaken things up. The kit hasn't been all about how you move around rigid white lines and where you place the red or the white on the kit. Remember in recent years France have had purely blue tops.
Two other teams that could do with a shake up are Spain and Brazil. Spain's kits with adidas have become very pedestrian. I don't think Brazil have had a classic Nike kit since the early 2000s.
The truth is it's all about the money. Take England, they are never going back to Umbro.....and Umbro aren't even an English company any more.
Those who thought there is something like loyalty or faithfulness in business are naïve. It's always only about making money.
Adidas also lost Real Madrid but, it's incomparable to lost jersey contract with German national team.
German here: I love you took a punch at the whole Quatar PR debacle. I was very confused back then. Some of my coworkers were saying „shame on you“ for watching the games.
I was afraid to say anything because of political backlash.
American here, why do you care about Qatar human rights abuses when it comes to soccer, but now that you guys stopped purchasing cheap Russian fossil fuels (that financed missiles killing other Europeans) and are purchasing Qatari LNG I don't hear much complaining about where the LNG that filled your reserves? Do you care about sports more than the lives of those around you? Trophies above everything lol.
