Did anyone even belong from Konkan who took them for Malvani thali? You guys were not aware of some of the dishes. That puri is called Kombadi Vade, that Dosa this is called Ghavane, Modak stuffing is made from coconut and jaggery.

They can't have people from all the regions right? Tourists usually stick with north indian food and the most popular thalis. Atleast they took them for a malvani food. Offcourse rick and korbin won't remember all the names but main intention is the taste.

Exactly.... That's exactly what I felt in First few minutes.... Like the people who made them have Malvani Food experience didn't even do justice to even summarising it.. Some just sat in the front and said taste this and taste that... The malvani cuisine they had In front if them, some of those dishes had there own identity... It's like someone from giving them Chicken Tikka masala and saying eat this Chicken Gravy...

They are exposed to so many dishes, it is hard for them to get real taste. For instance Kombadi Wade, a separate dish. It's funny that they are eating vada with solekadhi!!!

    • @gauravw6947

@Kaustubh Korgaonkar Even if they didn't know the dishes, they could've asked the waiters around to explain the the dishes to them, instead of spreading false information and acting like they know everything... One of the waiters even prompted "jhingaa" to them, but the girl didn't know what it is... Probably these so-called "guides" felt ashamed to admit their ignorance... It was weird to hear someone telling to eat modak in one go...

Maharashtra's geography is quite hilly due to the western ghats which makes the internal regions quite inaccessible to each other. This resulted in many subcultures developing there.
The weather varies a bit too. West of the ghats receives a lot of rain and east of the ghats are relatively dry. So, that brings about a lot of difference in what crops are grown and what cuisines develop.

Better way to introduce people to such varied Indian food would be for the person explaining to have a bite of the various dishes with chapati etc. and then let the guests to follow that action. Unfortunately Rick and especially Korbin didn't know the right mix and match combo. Not their fault at all.
Malvani food maybe a bit too different for American taste buds. It will probably take a while for the taste of the cuisine to grow on them. Yes and the spice levels of Malvani cuisine is high. Once one is used to that spice level you absolutely will relish Malvani food.

Kokum is not palm. That dumb girl said yes when Indrani asked if kokum is like plam fruit. At least google it woman. I don't blame Indrani here. She might not know what kokum is but the girl giving wrong information is to blame here. FYI, Kokum is a small fruit about the size of peach. The scientific name is Garcinia indica. You can google it. It's not even related to palm family. Pls don't give wrong information.

If you don't know anything about the Konkani or the Maharashtrian cuisine then please don't take your guests to these restaurants and misguide them, it's okay even if the maharashtrian culture is not represented nobody begged you guys to take them there, but why put up such a public display there. Some people in the comment section are sympathizing with them and saying that 'at least they showed the maharashtrian culture' well I am sorry but it's downright patronizing to use that kind of a language and you should ashamed of it. Regardless or not whether or not they remember it's our duty to give them right information. I am sorry Rick and Korbin but believe me you guys were scammed..

The people who made them have Malvani Food experience didn't even do justice to even summarising it.. Some just sat in the front and said taste this and taste that... The malvani cuisine they had In front of them, some of those dishes had there own identity... It's like someone from giving them Chicken Tikka masala and saying eat this Chicken Gravy... Someone making them taste Garlic Nan Bread by saying this is Some Indian Bread.... With all due respect I loved have on the other food videos you always had someone who added a lot the experience of what some of those things are and what it's made of... People saying that they can't get someone from every region to explain the regional food.. Ofcourse they don't.. They don't have to.. You don't have to be Malvani to explain Malvani food.. There were enough options right in front of them to make Korbin bare less heat and still enjoy it to the fullest.. But the person in front just let him. Eat spiciest things back to back and kept pouring water... I know Rick and Indrani will love it (thankfully).. But I wish there was someone in fhe front to add to the experience to Rick being the informative and passionate about Indian food that he is... I loved the other food videos as someone was always there to help add to the experience of discovering the different regional cuisines..
