  • This started to happen today. Also noticed some hesitation on acceleration. Noise only happens when accelerating and a strong Diesel Smell inside the car.

    Thats a boost leak!

Check your inter-cooler - they can split causing a loss of boost pressure. The sound you can hear could be from the exhaust gases escaping from there.

That noise is knackered intercooler to turbo resonator pipe/seals leaking boost. Had exactly the same problem on my 2010 D5 last year. Replaced mine with an aftermarket single section silicone pipe - I detect I've lost a smidge of refinement - but it only cost a tenner from ebay and is fraction of the cost of a new unit from Volvo. After 172k the Plastic pipe and seals were totally goosed.

Hi @Skint genius, I have exactly the same problem with my 2008 XC90 (185ps). Have you finally identified the issue?

Hi, my problem was the resonator pipe that comes off the turbo. It was knackered and was no longer sealing properly. You can get a replacement after market pipe for less that £20 off eBay.

Hi @@dannyspeed , thanks for your reply. I was asking @Skint genius since the sound in his video is exactly the same as mine. Did you experience exactly the same too?

@@00moun Hey, yes exactly the same as what dannyspeed said. I had the soot filter full come up on the dash so I removed and cleaned that. But still had the issue afterwards. It turned out to be the resonator pipe in the end.

Not yet. Soon after this I got a "Soot filter full warning on the dash. So far I've taken off the DPF and cleaned it and that made no difference.. I'm currently cleaning the EGR valve and removing the intake cover to see what condition the swirl flaps are in.

@@skintgenius2104 okay because i have also the same Sound, from the engine. I just had the intire intake apart. Ther was a lot of carbon build up. Have cleaned it, egr valve i also cleaned. Changed the flaps because it broke, messy engine. Now i yesterday got the massage dpf full. Readed all the fault codes. Only have dpf code and glow plugs. Changed glow plus and relai, wiring but ther was no difference.

@@stenbrokholm6083 That doesn't sound good for me then. Codes I have is swirl actuator control problems. Particulate trap-value and heated oxygen sensor. I noticed there is not a lot of pressure coming out of the exhaust when revving, So I'm guessing a blockage somewhere. What's your next move?

@@skintgenius2104 the Volvo is fixed Now, it was the exhaust manifold gasket that was leaking, because there was some screws missing, that maked that Sound. I had changed that, and looked at the dpf, it was clean. Changed the seals on the intercooler pipe, because they leaked 😊👍 Cleaned all carbon out off the Egr and trottle body. And the problem was gone.
