It took me years to try an SG (Vintage vs6). It quickly became my favourite type of guitar. Slim, light, great upper fret access and pure rock tones. Love them
Just got one a few days ago (second-hand Vintage vs6, with Wilkinson hardware, and before they changed the shape of horns). I've always wanted an SG, but being a strat and superstrat player for most of my life I was aware it will take some getting used to and was dreading it to be honest, whether I'll be able to get accustomed to such a different guitar or not. It is a different feeling for sure (frets are farther from me than I am used to, and shorter scale and small and slim body made it seem like a toy at first), but I was amazed by how easy and enjoyable it is to play this guitar. A slim and fast neck and all of the frets being easily accessible... despite having to fight it a bit due to a certain amount of neck dive when standing, to my pleasant surprise, I've quickly grown to love the feel of SG shape, they are fantastically designed guitars.
I just found this channel about 10 days ago and have been glued to it ever since. Love the playing and the deep dives. I've learned a tremendous amount. Fantastic job with the channel. Cheers
Nice playing. I appreciate that you allow the notes to sustain instead of trying play as many notes as possible. Good taste is a rare thing here on youtube.
Thanks man that's really appreciated 😊🙏 playing and demoing the guitars is I find the hardest thing to do and I (very) often think it sounds a bit rubbish so I do really appreciate the support.
I bought my first Gibson SG in January as a bit of a 50th birthday treat. I had a couple of Epiphone SG`s quite a few years ago and I could of probably happily settled for another this time, but couldn`t resist finally owning a Gibson! As for this channel, they`re the only videos on UA-cam that I watch all the way through! You should put some merch out, I`m a total sucker for merch!!
The beat up laquear Gibson parts castor, the southern rock is the cherry of them all. I thought of Dicky Betts and Allmans - love your channel Mate - well done
Colin, Just as I thought some excellent guitars in part one of your collection 👍 Nice sounding French metal guitar 👍 I love SGs never been bothered about neck dive but Wish they would start putting the Jack socket off the body front and on the side edge.
Thanks for sharing, Colin. Another great video. One guitar per week is manageable. That is being custodian to 52 , or 65 in your case. That first SG is a real beauty, fade and all. Magnificent tones. Some of us will recall the sweet tones Mick Taylor coaxed from his SG. Far more than an LP's little brother. And yes there have been some fine practitioners of single coil (not P90) SG's. ie Frank Marino of Mahogany Rush. Cheers!
To me the SG is the perfect guitar! It’s light, has all the girth of a LP, but with extra bite; not to mention way better upper fret access! I have 13 electric guitars, and if I had to reduce down to 1 only, without hesitation I would keep my 2013 SG Standard with ‘57 Classics…it just rips! Love these videos as always Colin! Cheers and Happy Easter!
I'm an American who adores everything English rock and roll. The Who being my absolute favorite band of all time. I always adored their accents and figures of speech. You sound just like them. I can watch your channel all day.
Thanks for sharing some of your wonderfull collection. So refreshing to see guitars that have actually been played and often, instead of being stuck in a display case for years. Many Thanks Again.
I can watch this all day, all weekend 😊 SGs galore! Loved the first one the best. Almost looked like it had a red pickguard when you took off the pickguard 😂
I'm glad to hear that your SGJ got so much playtime, and hopefully still does if you haven't sold it. I bought my first Gibson Les Paul earlier this year and it was an immaculate 2014 LPJ in Fireburst. I bought it on the spot for a steal and like yourself changed most of the hardware. It's a beauty and is a great compliment to my 2004 Gibson SG Special. 👍🎸 And as always, thanks for doing what you do!
I am in SG Nirvana! Thanks for getting me back into SG . When you are an Angus sized guy you get to appreciate the proportions of the SG. Since I got my special my Les Paul rarely leaves the case.
This deep-dive into your collection seems to have reignited the emotional/ instinctive aspects of your playing. Which I love, because when you're feeling it, I'm feeling it. Props, brother.
Even though I am a bass player that switched from guitar to bass at 13 after playing guitar for a little over a year, I heard Disraeli Gears and Led Zeppelin II and fell in love with the sound of the bass guitar. My first bass was a 66 Gibson EB-0 because of Jack Bruce, not just my favorite bass player but all around musician. It made me fall in love with the sound of the SG, from Clapton in Cream to Tony Iommi and Angus Young, I think it's the best all around Rock guitar, I think they are better then a Les Paul because of the tone and the weight. I consider it the Gibsons version of the Telecaster, no frills, just a slab of wood, neck, strings and pups. Even though I have more then enough 70's and 80's Fender J's and P basses I will always keep my EB-0, and even though I only own an Epiphone SG and some other middle of the road guitars I promised myself before I turn 60, witch is 5 months away I will buy myself a Gibson, nothing new but a good 80's- 90's no frills SG. Maybe a Special with the P90's or I always liked one with mini Humbuckers but not a deal breaker. I am going to start looking for one and take my time and will have to play it first, I have said it before and I will say it again I love your playing Colin, cheers from America.
Hi colin... its so much fun to see you pull out the collection. Guitars need to be played!! I really liked the Marshal Tucker vibe to your playing this week. At least that what it sounded like to me. Very nice. Makes me want to pull a few out of the pile to play.. cheers.
How fortunate you are to have that cast of characters about to jam with. Quirky and odd, some might say, but the unique is often more fun, so thanks for sharing your friends.
I keep seeing your flying V, and I want it! You will have to show that soon! I bought a 2004 faded SG second hand in 2012, and I fitted some Bare Knuckle Mules, changed the knobs to reflector knobs, and changed the truss Rob cover to a standard one. And it sounds amazing.
Hey Colin . Thanks again for your videos and your awesome musicality . Your 'Footage' with "croc cam" always reminds of a great worker who apparently found a better place to work . Thumbs up !
Great video Colin! It’s so good to hear someone genuinely enthusing about their passion. You’re getting some great tones as well. It’s making me look at SG’s in a new light.
I'm another SG guy myself ,have 5, IYV SG with vibrola, chibson Angus Young with lightening bolt inlays, malibu sunset firefly SG,silver tone SG and a grote SG which is a killer guitar, upgraded the pickups with a set of epiphone dot pickups, sounds excellent.
I watched half of this last night & nodded off!! Absolutely dug the French Jr & the soapbar 68-9? Sound great p90s. Yeah Col show us the rest, the amps etc. collection..more than interesting mate✌️
Hey Colin. Great video! I look forward to Fridays when I get to watch a new video from you. I’m excited to see your entire guitar collection and hopefully some amps as well. Nice tease at the end. See you next week.
I've been playing SGs for almost 40 years and have never really had a single problem with neck dive (on the other hand, my Firebird with the banjo tuners dives like it was trying to win Gold at the Olympics). SGs are my all time favourite guitar. I started playing them because of Brian James from The Damned. His playing laid me flat so I had to have what he was having!
Hi Colin! I enjoyed looking at and hearing all of your SG's. The one that gets my attention the most is the white one. That one is just so different than all of the others. My first really nice, non-budget guitar that I ever had is an SG. The one I just had repaired. This video makes me want to pick it up and play it. Sorry for the late comment. I usually try to see these on Fridays when they come out, but the last few weeks have been hectic for me. I hope you had a great Easter weekend. Cheers Colin! ✌
Woot. Just joined the SG club last month with an Epiphone. Can't watch right now but will come back. Later: Finally got to watch. Wow...THAT was a great episode man! Thanks for the Tour and looking forward to next installment! Best Regards and Best Wishes!
Alright Colin an episode (and only the first part!) Only about Gibson (and one from a luthier guy in France) SGs, love it! As a proud owner of 8 SGs (5 Gibsons, 1 Epiphone Muse and a Harley Benton model) and one Guild Polara S-100 SG I guess I can say I'm an SG nut! Awesome guitars whether they're humbucker or P-90 or LB-1 (Guild) they're fantastic guitars, love em! Got my first Standard brand new in 1994 and been loving them ever since. Loved seeing part of your collection and look forward to seeing more 👍
Talk about timing, going through different guitars in my collection, I finally found the SG with P90s will be my main guitar for gigs. Then this video came out. Now I have the Gibson SG 60s Tribute as my main and the Epiphone SG Worn as my backup. I enjoy watching your videos. Awesome playing and great format!! Your channel rocks!! 🤘
I was not prepared for that '06 A&H SG . . . that is truly a treasure, good sir. The more I see of that, the better! I am well and fully jealous, no disguising it
Always loved the distinctive sound of the SG, and some of my favourite guitarists played them - though I've never played one myself. Am I a philistine for saying I much prefer the SG Standard, at the end, to all the other vintage guitars and works of art? Ah, well, philistines of the world unite! Love the collection, and the first part of the video - looking forward to the next one, you big tease!
Aahh! SGs and Colin with my Friday morning coffee! Heaven! I've been SG-less until recently, I just bought an Epiphone SG Classic with P90s about a week ago and am very pleased with the way it sounds. Looking forward to the next installment of your collection. Cheers my friend!
Fab vid mate, just bought myself the Epiphone SG 61 Vibrola awesome guitar! I had to tweak the trussrod a bit to enable a low action without buzz but that aside its a great sounding and very playable guitar. I can now see why so many folks love the SG. Nice playing Colin love your demo jams, look forward to the next vid! Cheers
I have around 50 guitars myself, I’ll try to match your 65 sooner than later haha! Only have three SG’s though, one of them is a 2010 Standard also like yours, but it was a GC Exclusive in white with Burstbuckers, coil splits and ebony board…it’s my avatar on here if you can see it. These all sounded great, loved the tone of the metal custom one!
My 2014 SGj is absolutely brilliant as it is.. Played the Standard, and i still prefer mine.. It's such a perfect sound. Gibson 61 Zebras neck and bridge. Perfect. PS. I ADORE your Steel G kid! That sound is terrific.
i love SG's i bought my first sg standard in 2007 and then in 2016 i found a 1972 SG in an antique shop hanging on the wall for £550!!!! i bought it straight away ! i couldnt believe i'd found it there
Now THAT was fun!!! I had a thought about SG neckdive issues. Actually, I had a few but I'll try not to ramble... While tuner weight is definitely a factor, I believe another thing to consider is whether you have a Standard or a Special. That stopbar tailpiece and Tune-o-matic bridge combined with two big ol' honking humbuckers on the Standard probably helps as a counterbalance while the Special's P-90s and Lightning bridge contribute slightly less weight to the equation. Then there's the matter of neck profile. As much as I love a '59 LP style neck I can't imagine an SG balancing very well with a beefy neck adding more weight to the equation. As it is, my Epi SG Special balances just slightly neck heavy with a 3" padded leather strap. But it's a small compromise when you consider all that unrestricted upper fret access!!! Have a great weekend buddy, see ya' next Friday!!! ✌️✌️✌️
look at all these gorgeous SG's ! i really like the steel G kid, amazing looking, caught me off guard complety when you knocked it and said it was made out of steel haha, excellent video of these beauties
Great Film today Colin!!!! Like You Love SG's, and this is a walk down Memory Lane!!! Very Informative, Entertaining, and as always Nice Playing as well, You can tell You "Luv Em", sounded Great!!! Love the stories behind Your purchases of each one!!! Thanks for Great Films on Guitars!!!! Happy Easter Weekend!!! Cheers!!!!
The 64 looks really cool with the fade , I’ve got a 2019 original collection SG Maestro and I’ve 64’d it in its looks and hardware love it and because of seeing your 62 sg “holy grail “ I traded a Chinese Lennon casino for a NOS 2019 SG jr and I love that thing super light and tone for days from that one p90 , Great collection Colin I’ve watched both part 1 and 2 just backwards lol , thanks
Beautiful collection and in my opinion the highly modified string through body SG just sounded fantastic. My favorite sounding of the bunch. Great video.
The Loic Le Pape will always be the coolest for me because it's in the background of all your videos. I'm guessing the 1962 Les Paul Junior is in that alligator case? Can't wait for next week!
I 💛 your 'komisch' turn of phrase Colin, that turns up from time 2 time in the Friday 📹's... guaranteed to bring a smile to my face which is always a good thing 😃 eg/You know the sticky, stickiness that's on the back of the label 😂 'Great stuff Col' far easier/better than just saying 'glue' 🤣 Now it's all makes sense... what with you once working 4 Comedy Central 😀 As for the SG's the piece of 🇫🇷 art is my clear favorite. I remember watching your original stooges inspired 📹 a couple of years ago. After a morning foraging psilocybin 🥳 hence it made an impression... Happy Easter m8'🐣
That first junior! Dear me, the sound. Makes me start drooling once again. I have a SG special with humbuckers, but why do I keep dreaming about p90s? Oh, and this is the best SG video I've ever seen.
Happy Friday! Still catching up aftrr a week of media abstinence, happy to see this great vid :) great collection, Colin! Very authentic! Loved your take on Willy the p :) Now, what was I saying about you being SG person ;)?
I can’t imagine what would cause that finish to fade like it did but it looks absolutely awesome. I have a Gibson SG Classic with P90s which I regard as the best guitar in the world. I have loved SGs since a certain guitarist wearing a white boiler suit used to play (and smash) these guitars on a regular basis most notably at the Isle of Wight in 1970.😊
Thank you so much mate for sharing some of your collection with us. Myself, I love P90 guitars, specifically single P90 guitars. Thanks again for sharing this with us all. Cheers mate
Excellent! I really enjoyed seeing your extra cool SGs. I’ve still never played one in 50 plus years of guitaring. I’m seriously considering getting one, but it probably will have an Epiphone Special, due to economics!
2013 and cheap Gibsons. 350? Wow. Same as my Epi SG special. I paid 598 euro for my 2013 Tribute Les Paul. B stock, it was 650 at Thomann. Those are over 1200 now. ‘Een koopje’ as we say here in the Netherlands. Nice selection of SG’s
Hi Colin your faded sg, my 72 deluxe faded in an afternoon sat on a sofa with neck sticking up leaning on the back so i had a two tone finish. Also had a sg 100 which i fitted a neck p90 to all my mates called these sg,s the planks lol. although they were good players and could stand the heavy use of gigging. Wish i had them today, great vid mate looking forward to the rest of your collection Cheers Steve
Everyone should have an SG in their collection. Those cherry finished aged Gibson's look pretty spectacular even though they are players grade. Prices have become nothing short of outrageous now though so ill never own one. I have had, however, some very nice JHS Vintage SG's (wonderful guitars, especially after appointment upgrades) the Graham Oliver and Mick Abrahams signature models and the two other Icon SGs JHS Vintage made including the junior before they switched to offsets. Those guitars are now hard to find but there are a few still out there that come up 2nd hand and they cost peanuts in comparison.
Fliipin' brilliant, mate! Great intro jam played on a delicious little gem of an instrument, and that faded one was fated to be with it's Marshall counterpart in your capable hands. Maybe a clear scratch plate to show the original color? I love the SG in (almost) every iteration it has appeared and yours are all pretty tasty treats, friend!
Finally decided I must scratch the Gibson itch in the next year or so, and thus have fallen into the rabbit hole of which model to pursue - in my case LP style or SG. Thought finally perhaps LP, then I see this lovely vid, and it starts all over again! Can't imagine at this point where my journey will end!
Another wonderful video Colin. Lovely SG's whatever the price. Cant wait to see the other guitars over time. I am saving up to get real Fender Telecaster after buying Squier ones for years. Probably going for a 50's style pre owned Custom Shop. Alwats been a dream to have a real Tele being a James Burton and Luther Perkins fan.
65 guitars is an immense collection my friend..I'll bet they're all fantastic players..😊
What a lovely SG collection. You did some great modifications here. Thanks Colin, for showing us those gems.

I love the look of a Walnut SG to be honest, that faded front is fantastic! 👍
Colin,
Just as I thought some excellent guitars in part one of your collection 👍
Nice sounding French metal guitar 👍
I love SGs never been bothered about neck dive but Wish they would start putting the Jack socket off the body front and on the side edge.

That 1st faded cherry top is the best color I've ever seen on a guitar imo. It's very rich and has great depth!
My favorites squared. I love SGs and I always dig it when you show us a bunch of guitars.
To me the SG is the perfect guitar! It’s light, has all the girth of a LP, but with extra bite; not to mention way better upper fret access! That '63 Historic SG is a beauty. That fingerboard being so light really matches the faded body.

That sound is terrific.
i love SG's i bought my first sg standard in 2007 and then in 2016 i found a 1972 SG in an antique shop hanging on the wall for £550!!!! i bought it straight away ! i couldnt believe i'd found it there
Beautiful Excellent Amazing and all other wonderful adjectives describe you your efforts and your SGs
Bravo! Lovely stuff, old horse... thanks for sharing.
Have a great Easter and good luck with the bunny hunt :)
Cheers David! 😁👍
Aloha and Mahalo Colin! Nice collection of SG's. Thanks for sharing. Interested in seeing the rest. Aloha!
Cheers Victor! 😎👍
Cheers Joe!
look at all these gorgeous SG's ! i really like the steel G kid, amazing looking, caught me off guard complety when you knocked it and said it was made out of steel haha, excellent video of these beauties
Nice collection collin!
You have given me a fear of leaving my cherry gibson explorer in the sun though 😂
Cheers!!!!
Cheers Blake! 😎👍
Cheers Christy, nice one... those 2019 Juniors are killer too! 😎🎸🔥
Awesome! It's great to see you playing your favorite guitars. The SG 200 sounded terrific. Can't wait for the next installment.
All those tonewood snobs should hear the Loic. Your honour, the defence rests!!
Some wonderful warm tones there Colin. Loved the single P90 hand made junior. Crikey that can growl!❤
I 💛 your 'komisch' turn of phrase Colin, that turns up from time 2 time in the Friday 📹's... guaranteed to bring a smile to my face which is always a good thing 😃
eg/You know the sticky, stickiness that's on the back of the label 😂
'Great stuff Col' far easier/better than just saying 'glue' 🤣
Now it's all makes sense... what with you once working 4 Comedy Central 😀
As for the SG's the piece of 🇫🇷 art is my clear favorite. I remember watching your original stooges inspired 📹 a couple of years ago. After a morning foraging psilocybin 🥳 hence it made an impression...
Happy Easter m8'🐣
Cheers man... aha GLUE! 😂 that was the word I needed! 🤣🤣👍🤦♂️
That first junior! Dear me, the sound. Makes me start drooling once again. I have a SG special with humbuckers, but why do I keep dreaming about p90s? Oh, and this is the best SG video I've ever seen.
Cheers Danny! 😁👍... I sense a P90 SG in your future! 🤣
I have loved SGs since a certain guitarist wearing a white boiler suit used to play (and smash) these guitars on a regular basis most notably at the Isle of Wight in 1970.😊
This is the stuff I love- the quirky stuff! More of the collection, please.
Great playing, mate.
😊🙏
Love your videos mate, I love how in depth you go into talking about and analyzing the guitars, I could watch you all day, I’m subscribed 🙂
my faves where the french sg and the 200 tones par excellent mt, a cracking vid m.
thanks col, i got an sg special with fire bird pups in it, its a killer axe m.
😎👍👍
YESSSS. I love this so much. Thank you for sharing. I need an SG. wish the JR's weren't so hard to find at a decent price.
I currently own 3 custom shop VOS Les Paul SGs …none have neck dive..not even the lightest one (61’ Special) the balance on them is perfect.
Hi Colin, Who cares what I think but I would never sell the custom shop you showed first or the vintage Jr. Thank you, this was a real treat.
Or the metal one with the ☮️
We care Jim.. and you're dead right they are not for sale! 😁👍
Hi Colin, I'll admit I'm a bit jealous now. Great SG collection! Cheers Nobby
Cheers Stephen! 😎👍
All lovely guitars, really forward to to following episodes.
This is awesome Colin, thanks. Can’t wait for the next episodes!!
Thanks Todd! 😎👍
I think that we all know that eventually it will end up with you owning one of each John! 🤣👍
@@theguitaristas LOL Right you are, my friend! Deep inside myself, I know that all too well!
My sg addiction stretches to one ebony standard. It's fantastic and is my fave guitar.
Nice one Colin, definitely an SG man myself, my 2002 SG standard ebony also has no neck dive....
Own three SGs, and have owned another five. Never had any problem with neckdive. Two of my current ones got locking tuners too. Anyway, I love SGs.
Just what we are needing on a Friday! Cheers Colin
