What a wonderful sound they make together. They are my go-to band when I need to reset myself. Metallica, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Thin Lizzy one moment, next, Mediaeval Baebes for an hour and all is well again.
@@mikeoyler2983 Its "church latin" as opposed to the way linguists do (and the way its taught in schools). I took 5 years of Latin through High school and college. It was a rough transition to singing these pieces.
@@welshdane I probably learned it from the 'linguist' perspective. Gaudete should sound something like gw-duh-tuh and not gow-day-tay. But it is very beautifully sung and I own the album too.
There are a couple of Mediaeval Baebes Xmas tour videos here, if you haven't already seen them - ua-cam.com/video/kgE5x39bbog/v-deo.html & ua-cam.com/video/2XdxZ_PlHQU/v-deo.html
I get it when people say they are no better than a high school choir. However, I think that is part of their charm. There are no recordings from the Middle Ages and no one knows what these songs really sounded like. I bet Middle Age music resembled MB rather than Anonymous 4. But how would any of us really know?
Not only that but what's wrong with a high school choir anyway? People passionate about singing and enjoying themselves. Unless they were out of tune and out of time with each other, trying to sing over each other, I hardly see the issue - if it sounds good, it sounds good 🤷🏻 Folks seem to have forgotten they can just close the video if they don't like it...

It's sung in Church Latin as it is sung in England, where the pronunciation is *very* different from other variants of Church Latin, let alone Latin as it would have been spoken correctly!
Seem like nice girls, but when pronunciation overtakes vocal ability, all you can do is turn off, & go listen to Maddie Prior do it justice!! (IMHO!) 😁
Are you saying these British women have a Texan accent? Why, because it's being filmed in Houston. That's some of the dumbest shit I've read in a while.
Love the Mediaeval Babes. There Voices and vocals are hypnotic powerful & soothing
Beautiful women, beautiful music....what more could you ask for?
This is so wonderful.
Going to see them live in a local church soon. Very excited!
Love the close harmony. Sounds very medieval. 😍
The loveliest version of this beautiful song I've heard

Sounds very much like my musical extremes...nice to see I am not the only one.
Incorrect. Look up MIRANDA SEX GARDEN and listen to it. Why? Maybe you recognize the woman in the middle.
No autotune on these baebes. Beautiful. Nice music too !
the music is all their voices ... sung in a capella
This would be hilarious with autotune
What a great musical group. Beautiful voices and medieval songs. I love some of the old English medieval songs they sung on the earlier albums.
Amazing rendition, one of the most beautiful versions i have ever heard.
What would I do to see and hear this live. Wow. Very good.
Much refinement in this group. Each song sung by them is unique.
Hace muchos años atrás conocí esta obra y me enamoré de estas hermosas voces, son verdaderamente un elixir para los oídos y el alma, felicitaciones!!!
Absolutely beautiful. I own the album "Mistletoe & Wine" where I know this song from & seeing this proves to me 100% more why I so love them.
i had the original the original was the best
saw them live twice a few years ago, amazing.
Would really like to see/hear these ladies, such wonderful music.
I saw them probably 30 years ago so good they haven't changed the only thing is Dorothy missing from the line up
Oh god such a lovely voices
imagine the hours it took to not only learn the song but the timing for each singer to come in and out and all to an acapella rhythm.
Beautiful 🙂
Very interesting arrangement. Beautiful
Maravilha, belíssima canção. Amei.❤ouvindo essa Obra de Arte a Arte da Música fico em estado de Graça. Gratidão, Parabéns e sucesso 🎉

Beautiful. Christ is born of the Virgin Mary. Merry Christmas.

Looking like Beautiful anglo-Saxons princesses

It's funny that Latin can be pronounced in such antaa English way.
Yes I agree the English way of pronouncing Latin is cute but odd ; )

Still like Steeleye Span's version the best.
Chris Mansfield of course , no comparison
Yes it is a definitive version…though these are good too.
Just listened to it. De gustibus non est disputantum.
If you all ready new the song before

Why do they say virgin like that?
Cheesey name for a group
It was in reference to Bill and Ted. It was tongue in cheek humor.

Very nice, but it needs the tenor and bass to get the full effect?
Sounds slightly hurried to my untrained ear and, I'm sorry to say, pales when you've just been listening to Maddy Prior.
Furchtbar. Es heißt "virgine", nicht virtschine". Das ist Latein und nicht Englisch.
too fast
They sing this to quickly and thus get the pronunciation wrong
It's sung in Church Latin as it is sung in England, where the pronunciation is *very* different from other variants of Church Latin, let alone Latin as it would have been spoken correctly!
Too fast, what a shame
Absolute terrible latin
Голоса не очень чистые, так себе
Not bad, not a patch on steeleye spans rendition of the song. Sorry but that's my view.
Soppy - it's like schoolgirl singing, no 'attack'. And no, it's not just because it's medieval - other groups don't sound like that.
Seem like nice girls, but when pronunciation overtakes vocal ability, all you can do is turn off, & go listen to Maddie Prior do it justice!!

This "latin" is horrible...
Sang too fast
Latin with Texan pronunciation!
Very mediocre singing.
For a fine performance of this carol listen to the choir of Cambridge Clare college!
Are you saying these British women have a Texan accent? Why, because it's being filmed in Houston. That's some of the dumbest shit I've read in a while.
pronunciation is hideous
Church Latin as sung in England.
Dreadful. Steeleye Span's arrangement is a thousand times better.
not quite
Good, but no so impressive
Noo!!! Just stop!!!
So bad
