Except for the English accent, that makes Gaudete sound like Gaurethe to my Romance ears, it's fine. In a proper Romance/Mediterranean pronunciation, T is not as aspirated as in German and English, and D is dental. It should sound more like this: ua-cam.com/video/_UO_xOd7fn4/v-deo.html
@@luizfelipe5399 It should not sound like that. Latin was like English today and it was pronounced in many ways depending when, where and for what purpose it was used. This is the originel Finnish way for Piae Cantiones (pronounce "cantiones", not canziones): ua-cam.com/video/A1e8mOl5YuQ/v-deo.html
@@joukoniemi9250 I did not know it was Finnish. So you're right about hard G and T. However, I was responding the original comment, not yours. I was showing how it should be pronounced in modern Church Latin, not in the Finnish pronunciation. Hope you understand.
@UCI8bLUo7rz-TwkrkiiczKEw I ment the link you sent "It should sound more like this ..." Christmas songs from the USA and England have different English pronunciations. If you have an old song, maybe traditional instruments ang clothings, why not to use the original pronunciation. In the choirs I have song renaissance songs are song by the old Latin and more modern songs by modern Latin. Old Italian Latin has been different than German Latin and so on.
Actually, it's almost impossible to define how medieval music "really" sounded like... What you could have said is that is how YOU think it should sound... And yes, it's very nice, but maybe not the true medieval way to sing it...
This recording helped my soul through a dark Advent, lifted me throughout the shadowlands of Lent and now in Easter it feels like a breath of relief. Thank you for offering your gifts to this inspiring music.
There are a slew of versions of this song on UA-cam, but I really love this one for how it cleaves to the raw simplicity and sincerity with which I must imagine the song was originally performed. These other versions have a huge range of inventive instrumental and even vocal embellishments, but to me, they too often veer into the theatrical and incohesive. This version proves my suspicion that by and large, any ornamentation of this beautiful song is really gilding the lily.
Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus Ex Maria virgine, gaudete! (Rejoice, rejoice! Christ has born (Out) Of the Virgin Mary - rejoice!) Tempus adest gratiæ Hoc quod optabamus, Carmina lætitiæ Devote reddamus. (The time of grace has come- what we have wished for, songs of joy Let us give back faithfully.) Deus homo factus est Natura mirante, Mundus renovatus est A Christo regnante. (God has become man, (With) nature marvelling, The world has been renewed By Christ (who is) reigning.) Ezechielis porta Clausa pertransitur, Unde lux est orta Salus invenitur. (The closed gate of Ezekiel Is passed through, Whence the light is raised, Salvation is found.) Ergo nostra concio Psallat iam in lustro; Benedicat Domino: Salus Regi nostro. (Therefore, let our preaching Now sing in brightness Let it give praise to the Lord: Greeting to our King.)
There's always a different quality to the music when the singers believe the words coming out of their mouths. You all seem to have that. It's not strictly speaking part of the musical art, but it certainly comes out in a more beautiful sound. I know this was a few years ago, but this is one of the better performances of this piece that I'm hearing this Christmas(now epiphany)tide. Rage and scheme though the nations will, the scoffers still cannot mimic the beauty that comes only from above. Keep singing, for perhaps in those words they will hear and believe and share also in our Joy. Gaudete fideles! Christus vivit.
+laura Robertson Have you heard the version sung by the medieval song group Istanpitta? Spectacular! Well, in my humble opinion, anyway. It is on UA-cam, but only features the cover of their corresponding CD.
+Angela Mengis It looks like the list of UA-cam selections has changed. Try typing Istanpitta Gaudete/Dunje Rajke in UA-cam's search bar or just Istanpitta Gaudete. This song is on their CD entitled 'EXILED' --- it will show up as a green-colored CD cover. Happy New Year, by the way; may you be blessed with health, happiness and prosperity!
Haha I noticed this too- that probably makes two of us in total lol! 🙂. Probably the best sounding of the recordings here along with the King's Singers one.
So LIVE, and the 'hang time' on that reverb! Fully agree. Pretty sure any group singing there would produce sounds they'd not heard before. We used to sing in a fairly live four floor large spiral staircase 'room' to do little 'pop up' mini concerts at church and it was very live, but junk compared to this acoustic environment.
Absolutely beautiful. I listened to this after hearing it sung by The King's Singers, who seemed to rush through it and add strange sounding "non-period" chords in an effort to be "artsy". The rendition we are listening to here is spot on. Another nice version is by Anuna.
ANÚNA I looked it up and it said that, despite being compiled in written form in the 16th century, it probably originated from a Medieval monophonic chant.
A perfect celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ
Thank you for the English lyrics as well as the beauty of your voices.
This confirms that my favorite musical instrument is indeed the human voice
Yessss :D
Because it's created by God and not by man.
I agree.
@@wilhufftarkin8543, according to all real sages there is in essence no difference between god and man. :-)
Apparently I'm a tenor. I wish I knew how to use it.
Just beautiful. I've been listening to multiple "Gaudetes" on UA-cam and I think this is my favorite.
+Kathy Cahill
I would have to agree as well...
Je confirme
Agree, this one has the higher devotion
Totally agree x
I agree - most of them are far too fast, too stylized and lacking the spirituality of this version.
This version has the most accurate and clearest latin pronunciations of them all, and I think is the most beautiful, too.
Not the right way to pronounce Piae Cantiones: virgine (simple g), gratie not grazie.

Beautiful Medieval Christmas sung and so well performed in such a spiritual harmony!
Thank you from the Netherlands!🙏
Absolutely stunning. What incredibly contolled voices blending so beautifully delivered. The very best version I have ever heard. ❤
And sung in just the right place to make the best of those voices.
delicate and so strong just like HIM
This is the definitive Gaudete version on UA-cam. Fantastic job!
I can't imagine anyone not being inspired by the beauty of the music and choir.
That, ladies and gentleman, is how Gaudete is supposed to sound. Deo Gratias!
+Nagash Demina Absolutely!! This version is spot on!
Really? How do you know that?
ANÚNA ok let's hear your version, then

Exactly 3 months ago I listened to this on Christmas Eve, leaving 2019 behind and feeling like 2020 was going to be inspired.
We need it and all good Christmas music more than ever after the year we've had.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!
This is fantastic in every way.
Exquisite. Thank you. Rev Dave
Beautiful . Some versions treat this music as if it is a race . Its so much nicer when one is given a little time to appreciate .
perfection. There are many styles and versions but i like this one very much.
I think that is best Version of Gaudete
I could listen to this all day. Just gorgeous.

This is a truly excellent version - each voice is distinct, and brings additional depth as well as combining with the others in harmony.
Utterly beautiful- the harmonies are perfect..wonderful version!!.
That four-part chant I certainly consider as one of the most beautiful versions.
Glorious!!!! Gloria in Excelsis Deo!!!
What a great version of Gaudete.

What wonderful voices.

Gorgeous!! And I am SO jealous of your acoustic singing space there ;)

This is so incredibly beautiful!!!! Loved this song forever but this has touched me so deeply xxxxxxxxxx THANK YOU
AMAZING
how beautiful!
thank you for this beautiful version

Quite an exquisite performance , out of all the versions i have heard , this is by far the best .
la plus belle interprétation de gaudete !
Just Beautiful thank you
Superb version pristine and sublime.
Ohhhh.... beautiful voices... beautiful, pure...
Wonderful version!!
My absolute favourite part of this brilliant rendition is at 2:05, when they use proper Medieval harmony. Really cool!
The piece is not medieval. So if they do use proper medieval harmony its not accurate, but fair dues to them for being so radical.
ANÚNA I looked it up and it said that, despite being compiled in written form in the 16th century, it probably originated from a Medieval monophonic chant.
So, whether it was written in the exact medieval time period or not, it can't have been that radical or inaccurate to include it.
You said that the Medieval bit was your favourite. Its not Medieval so therefore it is inaccurate. that doesn't diminish the quality of the singing
.
