The side effect of building a silent PC is how infuriating your ambient environment becomes.
**bird chirps 4 blocks away** "SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!!!!"
+Jween Tech that's just some mental health issues, can't blame the birds :D
I miss this amazing editing. So much more professional than new videos.
right.
linustechtips were never professional, ever.
Watching their old reviews of them reading off the box yet still producing a fairly good review boggles my mind.
Did he seem RYzen?! (Ok I will leave now.)
absolutely agree with you, this actually feels professional and premium
My pc is silent. but why is the monitor always black?
RRainerss sshh its a joke
Did you peel off the black plastic on your screen?
Smashing Ryan Yes theres like a spider web tho :/
I just got a new monitor, i tried turning the monitor. Nothing happens pc is still silent tho, which is nice!
Specs :
Motherboard :LGA 1511
GPU : 2 GTX 1080
Processor: Intel i7
Ram : 16x4 team ecc ddr4
HD: 2x Samsung PSM1331a
SSD: Crucial MX 200 Sata
Fans: Some random fans i found online, maybe 6 of them
Cpu cooler : Same as up, but just 1
Case : Some random fan case i found that fit everything somehow
AND ITS QUIET BUT THE MONITOR IS ALWAYS BLACK LIKE WOOT
I have to say, that intro was the best i've ever seen on UA-cam. Very Impressive Linus and crew!
hagger taylor nope I'm pretty sure ed does that
hagger taylor whats the budget?
hagger taylor k
+hagger taylor (CubeTheIce) NZXT S340
it is I loved it
I wonder how many takes it took to shoot 1:30
yes
Nice catches in any case.
Next build the loudest PC ever. Use combustion engines instead of electric motors for the fans. use 4 of those expensive useless 10k rpm HDDs,
+martinshoosterman The worst were the 5200 RPM "Green" HDD's that were SLOW AS BALLS, especially when its 2+ tb.
and remember to put two Radeon 6870's in there
martinshoosterman jet engine powered fan!
Fubar231 I HATE 5200 RPM drives.
Linus actually did that a few weeks ago
One day a mobo manufacturer is going to put a conductive top on their mobo box just for the troll.
No they won't.
+A Christian Gamer joke much?
+A Christian Gamer
your name says it all. (joke resistant)
+ShitKid1337 I didn't know my religion meant I was an idiot. I'm not Amish.
+A Christian Gamer Please no religious hate. The Amish aren't idiots
Oh my god this intro is amazing! Whoever decided to change the default intro to this needs a raise
I mean.. deserves a raise.
Kapello Mg These intros are only for the build guides.
It was Edzel. And I agree, the original intro is annoying and old, this looks good and feels good.
That moment when you can't watch the video peacefully because of your PC fans going out of control.
will this run roblox on medium settings at 20 fps pcpartpicker.com/p/3R7Tqs
ceasar
nope, sorry mate, it can hardly run minesweeper on ultra LOW settings, something like 10 fps or less :c
rodrigo maldonado pcpartpicker.com/p/zh26xr ok what about that
ceasar
they're lying to you, my crappy laptop with integrated graphics does well, both will handle it *very* well
Aidan Sweeney i know its a joke
Am I the only one that can't stand perfect silence? When my computer's running, I like having the ambient background noise of the fan, as long as it's not overwhelming. I dunno why, I just find it soothing, because I know everything's working.
Only thing that used to worry me about sound dampening is when a mechanical drive is about to go and you can't hear it. Although that's a relatively loud sound.
it depends in my room lol i have fans going in my room because i literally go insane at night when there is complete silence i need noise or something
the same reason why electric cars are shite
gregor clegane hmm have mixed feeling about this sure they are quiet but damn that instant torque is mind blowing trust me on that. but still like the sound and feel of an engine especially my jeep but i like electric cars to.
gregor clegane You know computers are not run on fuel...They're run on electrical currents and tensions...so...
Bad comparison.
Electric cars are good, bro, they're just too silent, but they're fast and very clean when it comes to pollution.
Remember, you're the one who's breathing all that carbon monoxide coming from cars everyday. Not that they're the only source, but they're not the least polluting source either.
Mike seemed super Zen. I like quiet as well.
Nikola Nikolov Show me how
+Nikola Nikolov No problem. Have a great day!
my laptop IS silent
the fan dont work
your grammer dont work
+Bartosz Olszewski you what
HAHAHA nice.
+Bartosz Olszewski neither yours
KeeperReaper you what sayed? my grammer are perfectly well
Silent
Powerful
Cost effective
Pick 2.
JgHaverty first two :P
Sean Fiske I love the build! But man your going to get a bottleneck with a Pentium and a 970, I would really recommend going to an i5, otherwise the rest of your build is great :) best of luck!
bran, the thing can overclock to 4+ ghz he's not gonna bottleneck it.
Phantom Some people have managed to get it to over 5 under water.
But it's still a bad choice.
Go for a nice k-skew i5 and you WILL see better performance. It would also be more futureproof (gasp!) as you likely won't have to change your CPU and motherboard when you want to upgrade the graphics card again. If you don't get a k-skew it's more "bang for the buck" friendly to grab a B 85 motherboard (even an H 81 one.. but they kinda really suck)
Also get 2x 4 GB sticks of memory for double the bandwidth (increased performance in some cases)
Tommy59375 but if it's budget then a pentium is fine. i5 is better i'm not denying it but a pentium won't bottleneck a 970. 1080p 60fps e z.
I don't think anyone else makes videos like this at this quality. Linus is really the top tier from what I've seen. If anyone has decent competition to mention, by all means, speak up. I need more stuff like this.
Whoever put that intro together I praise you! That was fantastic and I'd love to see this style used for alot more of your awesome videos.
The intro was ssooooo awesome .. bring it back
I watch videos of pc's builds that i can't even afford
+SuuB Which is fine, people also like to watch expensive cars race, even though they can't afford them ;-) It's okay to be geeky about cool tech.
+SuuB A Strix GTX 970 and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo are good replacements for what Linus has in this build. They're what I have and it's great. If you want, you can also use a Define R5 case as well.
Tnx
+Adolf Hitler you're not alone bro... keep dreaming we'll get there one day
make your dreams come tro :'(
WE NEED MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS
Coming from Sept 2020, I was not expecting that intro
Amazingly planned script and perfect camera work.
People can learn so much more with your videos than just about pcs!
I can run Minesweeper on ultra settings over 30Fps+
#HARDCOREGAMER
***** On Ultra settings right? Wow. O.o
***** Guess what ... I can run it at 120 FPS ... Deal with it.
ropelli321 I play Minesweeper on Oculus Rift, so you deal with it.
christian carlos Well guess what I just got my Oculus Dev Kit 2 and the Leap Motion. So yea deal with it.
ropelli321 Oh Yeah?, Well i can play Minesweeper with Nunchucks... beat that buddy.
Best. Intro (and overall editing). Ever. Give him a raise!
+Hans Yolo Wonder if it was Dennis >:D
This is one of the only videos I've watched to the very end. That gives it the seal of AWESOME!
so many people do a discussion about computer in UA-cam now... but my opinion when you do an explanation is so clear.. not to fast, not to slow... and the graphics also attractive.. well done Linus and crew!
I would have laughed so hard if they had slowly turned down the volume over the course of the video
That moment when you build a silent PC only to have Graphics card coil whine XD
I built my rig to be quiet
It worked
But then a few months later my 1070Ti decided it wanted to coil whine A LOT
Big oof
what I like about Linus is they seem honest at the end he went and give the true result of the rig...thumbs up for this.
This is probably one of the best videos I've seen on youtube so far.
I can promise you that I will share this this video with plenty of friends and I'm 100% sure that they'll love it. =)
The quality of these build guides have increased so much over the years!
It has indeed
Very good video ser !
1. This intro is still unrivaled and the cinematography was top notch we miss you Taran and Brandon.
2. This computer was done dirty, it needed to be weighed against it's performance, for the same load as the best quiet pc it would have won hands down.
i miss this type of video these were amazing
We need a LinusTechTipsy drunk PC build
Wow! You guys really like material design! Makes me love your videos even more
Best intros ever, you need to do this on all your videos from now on.
I LOVE THE MATERIAL DESIGN LINUS!!!!!
Do a ultimate Silenced gaming & workstation pc for 2016
bump for early 2017
this is lowkey like the best tutorial on how to build a pc ive seen
Thanks for this build guide wouldn’t know who be quite is without this video so thank you
The production quality on that intro was outstanding.
Gotta admit, that editing is top-notch.
Could you sleep like 3 meters away from this computer?
okay, nice! I want a computer that I can sleep next to while it's rendering
Really cool!
+Dimplex LoveDurex same case and im getting noctua nf d15 and some noctua fans because i can hear my pc even when im usimg headphones (closed)
+Dimplex LoveDurex i have stock fractal fans and 2 120 fractal and 1 deepcool 140fan and i have motherboard what can controll fan speed by software but i can still hear it when im gaming and my temps get too hight like 90c on cpu and 80c on gpu and fans 100% i get around 80c on cpu on stress test and gpu 62c
Dimplex LoveDurex no it is watch some tek vidos on like linus tech tips or jayztwocents
when cpu is over 85c then ist bad
seeing this video now makes me wanting more like this, very good summary of parts
This is absolutely the best intro I've seen in a long while
I wonder how many takes the throwing at the beginning took :')
He probably got stabbed with the pliers or side cutters a couple of times;)
Tristen Hogue A couple?
3:56 Deez nuts!
lel
Stale meme
That be dead meme : /
Almost every meme I see is "stale, old and dead".. I personally think if it is funny to someone still, why not? xD
This is the best computer Linus has built. His expertise is well put to work, and the result is something the average user aspires. great job, I consider this the culmination of his career alongside his videos on eGPUs
I love the format of the video
Uhhh thanks, recommended? Love the intro though! BRING THEM BACK LINUS
The loudest thing in my rig is the hdd... Fuck me
Vrunchy Crunchy I feel your pain. The struggle
Tell me about it...the first time I booted mine my fans were running at a really low RPM...and all I could hear was my cocking HDD ticking away...I've since turned up the fan speed...and I can still hear the HDD -_-
SSD, only solution.
Arjan Stoop
Unfortunately it wasn't the vibration, it was the click-click-clicking of it reading/writing data. At the time it was a 2.5" drive kind of ghetto mounted using foam to wedge a 2.5-3.5 sled into a floppy bay. I've since replaced the case and now it's mounted on an SSD mount behind the motherboard tray. Less audible but still there. Once I turned up the fans (which to me is a more tolerable noise) it masked it fairly well. I have had drives that did vibrate through the chassis though...and fans too...and they are annoying as hell.
Vrunchy Crunchy Why not just get a 250gb SSD from Samsung and have a 2-4TB storage as extra storage or if you have a 1GB upload and download, just use online storage.
I've been researching how to quieten my system so I think that's why I was lead here, but even though I've got no intention of building a PC, I still can't look away from this video lol. Love this channel!
Love these old videos, damn good editing aswell!
"Its like saying my armpits smell, I'll just wear noseplugs" LMAO
the only problem is that biologically you cannot smell yourself because of a defenesive mechnism inside the brain allowing you to smell the surrondings and just forget the smell(s) of your own body ... when you can smell yourself that means there is a ton of bactria on your skin and you should wash yourself with alot of soap and water as haveing that much bactria on your own skin is not healthy mainly because it is the bad bactria that you can smell while the good bactria you cannot when it is yourself of course.
That intro tho...
Daniel Osah A bit dramatic lol
Daniel Osah I want to know how to edit like that
great vid love watching your old videos
I love the build log intros they are amazing
That editing makes me so goddamn jelly. It just looks so good.
Lmao "less than a dollar per gig" with 2 480gb ssd's so almost $1000
+ClickyGaming not pci-e
But you are forgetting that it it was run in RAID 0 which means that he was only getting HALF of that memory.
+Read Adams half of the total of 480x2, right?
Dan Jacques
yea, the idea is that you get the speed of 2 SSD's but only the memory of 1.
+Read Adams do you know how raid 0 works it strips them both together with no redundancy, your thinking of raid 1
The silent room measurement with Mike Chin from silentpcreview is interesting at 15:38. Good stuff, didn't know there was a community around silent gaming PCs.
Holy crap, the Audio Quality in the sound room... what a stark difference. Incredible.
Holy crap that intro is amazing
Put the computer in space. It will be 0 db.
+Vsevolod Nedora k
+Vsevolod Nedora k
It will also build up heat at crash bc no heat it dissipated out of it bc no air
+Vsevolod Nedora might not be such a good idea, without air as the medium to transfer to, the heatsinks will simply build up heat and only radiate it outwards at a very slow and inefficient rate. the fans will also do nothing which would rise the overall system temperature a bit.
+John Mosier That is not true. Infrared radiation from a human body is incredibly small, you'll go hours before getting cold ( and that's if you're completely in the shade. If you're not you will without a doubt absorb more IR than you emit).
Holy crap that is one big ass cooler. Awesome video as always, thanks!
I really like this guy and his channels
I am from costa rica and if you see the cpu at 2:26 it says costa rica on it. That proves that costa rica is not only a jungle
okay
I have a hunch this was sponsored by Bquiet.
Awesome work Linus😀
Nice Intro on the Silent pc parts mate👍
Man I remember being in middle school when this video came out thinking a 980 was expensive...we didn't know how good we had it...
so silent i can't hear anything...oh shit, my speaker's off.
super professional as usual. thank you so much.
I love the Android style animations in the intro! Keep up the good work, guys!
Does anyone know what program they use to make their intros? They are amazing :D
Julius Bucher Adobe After Effects :)
Pet Lamb tyvm :)
Im liking the new style of reviews, (I saw it progress on the OC guides) I do like the normal LTT intro but this is a good substitute. I also noticed the camera went a little yellow and blurry when you were talking about the PSU, but apart from that it was a new step forward.
i didnt see anything
DatDerpyHorse
Probably a good time to open your eyes than mate.
i cant im a turtle
Really interesting and complete video!
Best intro yet on this channel
>silent PC
>shouts as loud as possible the entire video long
fuck me
I will.
Is that Fred from those Fred videos?!??!
Edit: No.. no it is not. Just looked up who Fred was and it's not this guy. But damn, that's a great silent build! My current build is pretty silent thanks to the H110x v2 water cooler and some custom padding for 2 of my secondary hard disk drives.
The GPU is still very loud under load, but there's no real avoiding that I guess.
Verified. Nice.
Nice catch on the equipment there, Linus. Wonder how many takes were done to perfect them though, but nice there's a no-look catch with them.
I could do all these expect cable managment and this video is so nice you feel like a genuis while watching this
For my school project I had to create a PC build that was capable of high end gaming whilst staying quiet and I built pretty much this exact build.
Stephen P Okay.
Stephen P If I read that correctly that means sam is stephens mother?
Who paid for the school project?
Esa Edvik Theoretical build.
Sam Smith Ah, right. Didn't even think of that :D
I wonder how many takes it took to film him catching all the tools. lol.
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed!
That Material Design intro sequence was amazeballs
This video needs to be remade for 2023
you guys should make a 2016 edition with an i7-6950x and 1080
Benito Wymeersch Seconded...
Benito Wymeersch YAAS PLEASE!
So sweet, so motivating!
Hey I love your videos, I always learn something new
im sorry, do i see intake fans on the front and back?
Yes
Yep, it's exhausting through the top.
He hoped so, but it's actually just swirling around inside the case.
***** actually, that would produce _less_ of a vortex, as it would quickly reach an optimal pressure at which the rate air was squeezed out of the rest of the case matched that being pulled into it.
One thing I will mention is that the PSU being upside-down _may_ alleviate this. I forgot about that.
This is a computer case optimized for silence, not airflow. There is no vortex inside the case significant enough to make any difference. The front and back fans will push air into each other, and any hotter air will rise to be exhausted through the top. It's basic thermodynamics, and not hard to understand.
Plus, as long as there is any airflow at all inside the case, convection will take over and do most of the work anyway.
no cpu fan really scares me...
ikr
It actually has mate, the rear fan in reverse direction.
LUKASSS WOLF HIER HOE KOM IKK JOU TEGEN toeval xd
GewoonUniek Quit wooooowwwwwww
kill kom onlined waar ben je
Best edited LTT video ever!
loved this video. Gave me some ideas !
18:03 - 18:15 the struggle is real #try not to laugh
Easy?
What's funny
The Mighty Punion i dont know ask linus'
+(._.) ( l: ) ( .-. ) ( :l ) (._.) yeah he was so sad haha :P
lol this pc costs more than a human organ ,wtf
i can hook you up with some cheap organs pm me
Hjembrent Kent any livers spare lol
well that means you better sell more than one of your organs
apostolis633 me typing on Google : "which organs are not vital?"
έλληνας;
18.00 the disappointment in his face. Great build series, really well presented ❤
amazing and clean intro!
I have one question though, can it run Internet Explorer?
+Francis Moran nope, only opera browser
+Francis Moran It may run notepad on lowest settings, at 1 frame every 100 seconds if you overclock cpu to 1petahertz and gpu to 500 terahertz.
+Eman EL overclocking is old underclock it to 10 nanohertz
+AboveFancy2 more like 1 yoctowatt
Will this build let me play Minecraft? I run Minecraft in turbo mode.
Would the human ear be able to tell the difference between 23 and 27 dp's?? It's extremely marginal, I think you guys did a great job. Cool that you bought another tech company into your video to help them out too. Keep up the great work
Decibels aren't that easy. The amount of noise between 23 and 27 doesn't compare to the same gap elsewhere in the spectrum (118 and 121).
Interesting, I'll look into this more if that's true
Pablo Blue
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-weighting
You sent a Wikipedia link to prove your point? Ouch
bikesandrockets
You want to discredit Wikipedia on something as well known as Decibel ratings?
Nice catch!
I loved how hard Linus was trying so hard not to laugh when talking to the quiet computer guy 😂😂
