I made a budget build for the first time...I used the amd a10 6800k, a88x g1 sniper motherboard, 8gb of ram, 1 tb hard drive, and a 430 psu...and its so awesome...perfect for medium gaming and multimedia purposes
***** It's about £350 in the UK without the monitor and operating system. I would consider that to be low end, but on the upper side of low end. I've built a low end gaming pc for £250 and gotten similar results in the benchmark. Based on an AMD FX-6300.
Believe it or not. Over the last week I've been watching videos every night. My first comment on one tho to say thanks for the knowledge I acquired. keep up the great work
I Watch A Lot Of These Videos And A Lot Of Them Are Useing Very High & Extreme Components That I Could Never Afford So Its Nice To Watch More Budget And Value Orientated Build Videos ...
That's a very pretty case, however I have an issue with the 20mm "cabling space". I wouldn't exactly call 20mm 'spacious' - not considering my power supply has most of the cables all inside one sleeving that makes it rather bulky. I'd need a case with at least an inch and a half (about 40mm/4cms) of space, not just 2cms.
ahh, it's been a while since I did a complete build... I do (now that you mention it) remember scraping off supplied thermal paste in favor of a better quality paste/grease. The stuff is so cheap, after all.
Zachary Blake Anyone here remember ZIF sockets? Because that's exactly what this motherboard is using to hold the APU. ZIF stands for "Zero Insertion Force", by the way. Sorry, Luke. These sockets go way back. I mean WAAAAY back. I'm talking first gen Pentium era stuff. A computer that ran at 100 Mhz and having 8 Mb of RAM was a pretty good system at the time. CD-Rom was still rare, but it was becoming more common. Hard drives were close to breaking into the single gigabyte range. Have I ever told anyone how much I love Moore's law?
I HAVE THE AMD A8-7600 RADEON R7 780GHZ WITH DDR3 16GB 1600 AND I CAN PLAY BLACK OPS 3 ON MIDDLE GRAPHIC GETTING 60 TO 80 FPS ONLINE MULTIPLAYER AND I ONLY PAID 77$ ON AMAZON FOR THE GPU
Speaking of AMD, the new Corsair K95 features full RGB backlighting, and your choice of cherry MX key switches! Great for NOT COMMENTING WITH CAPS LOCK! Check out the link in the video description to learn more! Brought to you by massdropping dollar shave club on my master case 5.
Not sure who was doing your video editing this time, Linus, but major props. I especially liked those very smooth transitions to "zoom in" on the inside of the case while you were working. Very well done!
nice video as allways! as far as the storage goes you should start recommending SSHD´s because they are pretty cheap, have a high capacity and offer performance (at least in therms of loading speed´s) between HDD´s and SSD´s! a Seagate 500GB SSHD will outperfom a WD Black 500GB by a fair bit and is just about 10€ more expensive! that will help you not just by loading faster into windows, but also by loading games or applications!
Open it up and check all the cords that come from your case. If there is anything not plugged in make sure you find where to plug it in. make sure the plug holes match too.
Atm, I am running an AMD Phenom II x6 1100T. I don't feel the need to upgrade since I have a 7950 which runs most games at high settings 1080p. I just want the USB 3.0 on the front of my case to work but I have an Asus Crosshair IV Formula mobo :(
Just and advice for people out there trying to build an APU based CPU, I've built a few of these and have come somewhat experienced on the subject, first: The stock cooler on the A-series SUCK and when I mean suck I mean not just for gaming but in general, with the stock cooler and a mobo like the one shown in the video you will end up with temps around: 55/60 iddle and 90/100 while using PS or gaming, so make an effort and try to buy an aftermarket cooler even a cheap one like the gammaxx 300 will suffice most of your needs. Second: since A-series have the gpu on board they require a lot more power than your regular processor, so make an investment on the PSU as well, Third: If you want this for gaming prioritize the dual channel RAM if not a single channel can still give you a nice performance. A few things you might run with a dual channel 2133+ RAMS: GTA4 on high/very high BF3 on the same specs and BF4 on medium/low, once again I cannot stress enough how important it is to buy a decent cooler, please do not overlook this aspect. Happy building!
Hi, I am building a computer for the first time and I do not know if this is a good build: Processor: amd fx 8350 CPU cooler: bequiet! Dark rock 3 Graphics card: amd radeon r9 380 by msi Motherboard: msi 970 gaming Case: zalman z11 SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO HDD: western digital 1 terrabyte OS: Windows 10 Power supply: Strider Plus 750W 80 plus Silver RAM: Kingston Hyperx 16gb ddr3 1866hz Thanks in advance :)
wouldnt recommend Win 10 also downgrade to an 8 gig of ram since that is all what you need then add 8 later (in 3 years or so ) but every thing is good here .
Yah this is how I pretty much built my build. Of course I still spent a considerable amount but I had a stnadard mobo and graphics card with a pretty standard Hardrive and proccesor. Now of course I've completly invested myself in pc(not planning on going back to console) and have two gtx 660ti graphic cards(one to replace the other if it breaks) a cpu that kicks out 4.2ghz of speed and 2TB hd, also recently upgraded to a NXZT guardian case. So if you think your system sucks hope is coming and you will be able to upgrade and whoop your games ass if you get serious gl and this is a great guide to start!
Liam Hawkes funny story on that, I went to microcenter on black friday and got more than 1000 dollars worth in reduced price pc appliances and was lucky to get a gtx 660ti for 100 dollars I couldn't believe my eyes and hoped on the card (1 of 5 others) that were still on the shelve. It's an amazing card to be honest considering that fact that I got it at a reduced price and that it runs physx enabled games really well wow still allowing you to nearly max your games. I highly suggest it but I wouldn't pay full price for it.
Hold up, hold up.. So you have two 660 Ti's and don't have them in SLI? I'm pretty sure that i didn't read your comment wrong.. So you need to throw that second card in your case and not worry about it breaking.. So long as you keep the temps in check. You wont have to worry about them breaking for quite a few years. Example.. I have an older build that i gave my daughter with two GTX 8800 GT's that runs flawlessly almost 7 years after being built. Reason being is that i always kept them running cool because heat is about the only thing that will break a video card besides pushing the clocks and volts to hard. So throw that second card in (so long as you have a 650 watt+ PSU) and don't push anything to hard and you wont have anything to worry about.
EnhancedCognition yah you heard me right and actually I do have plans to sli them, I'm using the other one as a back up until I can find a compatible mobo to upgrade from my old one that currently only has one GPU slot.
hey linus i have a question my toshiba l855d-s5220 laptop has an APU (amd a8-4500m and radeon 7640) it had 4gbs of ram but i put another 4gb ram stick (ddr3) so i have a total of 7.5 gbs of ram (on windows 8.1 pro 64bit) it can go from 1.9 ghz to 2.8ghz turbo and the gpu can go to 1.3 over clocked via amd overdrive plus it has a 500gb western digital hdd (which has bad sectors) is there a way to make it run faster and play dead rising 3 with higher than 10 to 20fps and a way to fix bad sectors with out wiping the drive or losing files (its the only laptop i have)
Playing DR3 on that is suicide no matter what you do. At best, you will play DR3 with shitty graphics and FPS for a few weeks before it craps out. If you set a game to low graphics and still get only 30 FPS, then you are damaging your hardware.
i dont play games on it that much anymore since the temp goes up to 170 for gpu and cpu disc is 107 and ram usage is at 60% with google chrome open im getting a new laptop in feb since this ones been through a lot the past 2 years
nah it has a clean install of windows 8,1 pro 64 bit and it has no virus since i have avast avg and my router has northen so im covered plus i now have the alienware alpha so i can play games at 30 to 60fps with v sync with it off i get over 120 fps
Very informative... The you tube videos that were available when I put together my first pc were no where near this informative. They were 5 minutes tops and left a lot for the builder to figure out for himself. Don't know if you mentioned it or maybe it's on the heats ink already and I missed it, but what about thermal grease?
I REALLY admire Linus patience hahaha How can he be describing the same proccess over dozens of vids with the same... IDK... joy (?)? Great work! Keep it up!

+Jacky Xie I agree that integrated graphics should be fine for him, but I wouldn't say that 20-40 fps is very playable framerates... if you're closer to 40 most of the time, then it's not bad but 20 isn't playable imo
Mathew Teague True, but it would still be nice to know the price of it from when he made it. After all, a lot of people watching this are probably looking to build a value PC themself.
Linus, can you test APUs with different memory configuration? Will the difference when using 1866, 2133, 2400 MHz ram be noticeable? Everyone including you says RAM speed matters for APUs, but I never seen any benchmarks proving it.

That's a wonderful machine. You'll love the case; I'm using it right now. Did you buy Windows with that? Also, the motherboard is a very good choice. Too many people go for micro-ATX to save a little money, but I'm regretting my decision because my GTX 560 is covering two of my SATA ports. If you ever run out of space on that hard drive, you can easily add another with all the spare ports. If you really wanted, you could also add PCIE x1 expansion cards as well. Good build.
I have A10-6790k too but when I'm playing my cpu fan is too loud.. louder than my sister's hair blower :( Can someone recommend me a good cpu cooler please
Yeah, Ikr? :) Watching this in my Ryzen 4500u affordable laptop makes me feel fortunate to live in 2020. Oh wait... There's that other pesky thing happening right now, I forgot
I didn't actually watch the whole video so forgive me if you did mention this, but RAM speed? AMD APUs perform so much better with fast RAM, especially for framerates in games.
patrick broderick from 1600mhz to 1866 it's not a big difference. it's there just minute. The only time you're really gonna see a difference is jumping to 2400mhz

Good video Linus. I build PCs as a hobby and this stuff is very enlightening for people to know since they think I'm some sort of a wizard. I just point to this video from now on and tell them build their own machines.
By the way the day i'm writing these i'll have my components transferred to a new case by a friend of mine, but i promise the next computer to be built by my own hands!!!
Linus and team, just want to give you guys a HUGE thanks for all the amazing work you guys do, although half the time I know a good base of knowledge about the topic of a video I somehow always learn something new from you guys, and in the best way, a non-boring video of a geek who doesn't have that social niche you guys do. thanks for being awesome and sharing solid information with us all!
Great camera skills. Built an APU rig for my bro. 6200 on an MSI board with 1x 8Gb and a 500Gb WD black in an old Soprano RS case with a wireless Gigabit card for some mobility. Insignia 24in IPS LED with wireless Logitech keys and mouse on win7 Ultimate. He hasn't had a complaint. Runs Cad programs.
Instead of the r7 260x why not put a gtx 750 ti ? it is 5 bucks more but offers double the 3d mark and there is a huge difference in game performance! It's not like Nvidia is not compatible with AMD... If it's for the sponsor's sake then i get it but I still believe that there are better options for the same money
panos basserpan prices vary by country, so somewhere where you're not living, the market is different for some reason. For example: often there just isn't enough demand in some country, so the manufacturer wont arrange shipment there, so the parts that do make it there are third party and cost more
I feel Linus should have included an optical drive with this system, because the type of people who would build this type of system would be more likely to need optical storage accesibility.
***** keep in mind that the amd memory is pretty expensive. you can get cheaper memory that will work just as good. and he is wasting a little money using the apu with a separate graphics card. if you go with the richland or trinity athlon x4 processor, you save about 50 dollars and get the same performance. you don't get the built in graphics, but with a decent discrete graphics card, the built in graphics is wasted space anyways.
michael mandel No its completely true have yu tried that with an apu? it WILL have 50 percent less performance, because the bandwidth is only HALF. I tried it and it only ran bf3 at 800x450 min settings at 40 fps on a 6800k with 1600mhz memory
Please more AMD builds. That was a great intro for someone thinking about doing a build versus going to Best Buy and buying a brown box. Well done. But more AMD stuff please. Such as a gaming FM2 build with something such as a Athlon 760k including overclocking tricks.
I am 14 years old, ive built 3 computers already, 1 for a friend an 2 for myself, no supercomputers but around 1000 dollars each, That said i built theese two 100% alone since my parents know nothing about pc building, i think you can manage it :)
What would happen if AMD goes bankrupt than there would be only intel and nvidida with a huge monopol. So really hope AMD comes back with good stuff, even know I would never buy AMD componets
AMD will never go bankrupt. AMD have sold their M295X chips to Apple for use in the 5K retina iMac, that's a huge opportunity for AMD there. However, AMD's m295X is not as good as an Nvidia GTX 980M and unfortunately, Apple may end up replacing AMD with Nvidia again. Again, however, the 295X2 chip will be significantly cheaper than the GTX 980M and business is all about profit.
I got a hd7750 1gb ddr5, 1tb seagate barracuda, pentium g2020 and 4 gb of gskill. Altogether w/o operating system the build cost around £300. It performs amazingly and better than i thought. This would be a great option for sum1 trying to make a value pc
Here is my score on a new out of the box Asus M11BB A10 6700 Richland. i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag226/chris_silvey/A103dmark_zpseca8124b.png It's rated at the top 20%. I also ran a slew of tests on Pc Pitstop which rated it at 21%. Quote "AMD is marketing their APU's to us now... No gamer should get an APU, they're for office desktops..." I have to disagree. While not a top liner, The A10's are sleepers. A decent R9 Card, fast ram will be all that is needed to put I5's and I7s in some serious competition. The ace in the hole is the Turbo Core Technology. It rocks all processes, the cpu and goes over specs on the North Bridge. Gaming is more than FPS, it is also throughput , threading and ping. The APU by design jumps over a few conventional bottlenecks and at a fraction of the cost it is a good investment.
a little handy tip for screwing in standoffs: thread the motherboard screws in the standoff. then you can thread the standoff in with a screwdriver and if the standoff is fully tightened, grab a pair of pliers, hold down the standoff and thread the screw out of the standoff ;)
Built this system myself and added a standalone 6770 I also opted for the 3.9ghz version of the chip and got a pretty decent 4.4ghz overclock on stock voltage which i use permanently. Didn't like the boxed heat sink and fan so i bought a nice zalman after market cooler, temps never go above 54 degrees full load :) overall very happy with the purchases.
£170 for mobo CPU an 4gb memory I had all the other bits from a previous pc apart from zalman cooler which was £30 that I bought a couple of months later
There are a lot of other factors such as budget, price to performance, needs and availability that should be taken into account before you simply go "this pc should use intel". So please go fanboyish somewhere else.
Rin Dove Better to go performance for performance.....Im not gonna settle just cause something is cheaper.....cheaping out on a cpu is no way to build a system.
I hate the fact that I'm not a PC gamer. I'm so ignorant to everything you said. I just watch because this shit is calming!

Without the graphics card it is $756.52 at amazon. That excludes shipping and tax. With the AMD R7 260X its $906.51
***** It's about £350 in the UK without the monitor and operating system. I would consider that to be low end, but on the upper side of low end. I've built a low end gaming pc for £250 and gotten similar results in the benchmark. Based on an AMD FX-6300.
A gaming pc for $350 LOL yea no.
***** that wouldn't be classified as a "gaming" pc
Zakary Nawabi You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.
Believe it or not. Over the last week I've been watching videos every night. My first comment on one tho to say thanks for the knowledge I acquired. keep up the great work
14:40 says to carefully take CPU out of box... Hardly looks at it while taking it out
yeah i know but its kinda funny

I Watch A Lot Of These Videos And A Lot Of Them Are Useing Very High & Extreme

Orientated Build Videos ...
Dat intro... I like it, I like it a lot!
Why not use the NZXT source 210?
It is a better and cheaper case!
core 1000 is cheaper
That's a very pretty case, however I have an issue with the 20mm "cabling space". I wouldn't exactly call 20mm 'spacious' - not considering my power supply has most of the cables all inside one sleeving that makes it rather bulky. I'd need a case with at least an inch and a half (about 40mm/4cms) of space, not just 2cms.
badogski29 On new egg it is only $4 more.
But the core 1000 is on sale atm. when it is not on sale the source 210 is cheaper.
I'd recommend SilentiumPC Brutus M23. Oh wait, it's not popular enough to reach the market outside Poland :(
I don't know how many times I've watched these build videos. I just really like this playlist.
did you not use grease on the heatsink? seems like an important step that could end badly for someone.
if you mean thermal paste it comes pre-applied on stock heatsinks
Thermal paste? It's already on the stock coolers.
ahh, it's been a while since I did a complete build... I do (now that you mention it) remember scraping off supplied thermal paste in favor of a better quality paste/grease. The stuff is so cheap, after all.
***** It's not a "grease" please lose that terminology.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_grease
Linus: We don't push the CPU into the socket with any kind of force.
Jedi Youngling: You mean I can't use the Force?
Zachary Blake
Anyone here remember ZIF sockets? Because that's exactly what this motherboard is using to hold the APU.
ZIF stands for "Zero Insertion Force", by the way. Sorry, Luke.
These sockets go way back. I mean WAAAAY back.
I'm talking first gen Pentium era stuff. A computer that ran at 100 Mhz and having 8 Mb of RAM was a pretty good system at the time. CD-Rom was still rare, but it was becoming more common. Hard drives were close to breaking into the single gigabyte range.
Have I ever told anyone how much I love Moore's law?
Leo Nielson you tried
I love the honesty at the end with the glam footage.
Monstercat outro music? Nice.
He also used Mr FijiWiji's music at the end of the video editing workstation build guide :)
I HAVE THE AMD A8-7600 RADEON R7 780GHZ WITH DDR3 16GB 1600 AND I CAN PLAY BLACK OPS 3 ON MIDDLE GRAPHIC GETTING 60 TO 80 FPS ONLINE MULTIPLAYER AND I ONLY PAID 77$ ON AMAZON FOR THE GPU
bitch u can play it on max
k fam
Speaking of AMD, the new Corsair K95 features full RGB backlighting, and your choice of cherry MX key switches! Great for NOT COMMENTING WITH CAPS LOCK! Check out the link in the video description to learn more! Brought to you by massdropping dollar shave club on my master case 5.
such caps lock
I can't stand having a dead USB 3.0 port on the front of my case.
Open it up and check all the cords that come from your case. If there is anything not plugged in make sure you find where to plug it in. make sure the plug holes match too.
I meant that there's not a usb 3 header on my mobo
oh okay.. damn forreal. Try getting an MSI 970A- G43. It's a very cheap motherboard but it has everything you need.
vespaman101 the MSI 970a-g43 is am3+, APUs are FM2
"If it doesn't fit, turn that baby around and put 'er in" -Linus, 2013

Hi, I am building a computer for the first time and I do not know if this is a good build:
Processor: amd fx 8350
CPU cooler: bequiet! Dark rock 3
Graphics card: amd radeon r9 380 by msi
Motherboard: msi 970 gaming
Case: zalman z11
SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO
HDD: western digital 1 terrabyte
OS: Windows 10
Power supply: Strider Plus 750W 80 plus Silver
RAM: Kingston Hyperx 16gb ddr3 1866hz
Thanks in advance :)
wouldnt recommend Win 10 also downgrade to an 8 gig of ram since that is all what you need then add 8 later (in 3 years or so ) but every thing is good here .
Meta-Morph thanks,but too l8 m8
you must w8 m8 , get win8 it is gr8 , i rate it 5/8
Meta-Morph 2 l8
+Meta-Morph windows 10 isnt bad D: only thing i dislike about it is the spyware built in, but i used programs to remove all that shit lol
In my opinion, the 660ti is pointless, the 660 is fine, the only positive on the ti is the memory bandwith is slightly better
Liam Hawkes plus more cuda cores plus and average of about 30% more gaming fps and trust me ive seen both in actions its worth it
hey linus i have a question
my toshiba l855d-s5220 laptop has an APU (amd a8-4500m and radeon 7640)
it had 4gbs of ram but i put another 4gb ram stick (ddr3)
so i have a total of 7.5 gbs of ram (on windows 8.1 pro 64bit)
it can go from 1.9 ghz to 2.8ghz turbo and the gpu can go to 1.3 over clocked via amd overdrive plus it has a 500gb western digital hdd (which has bad sectors)
is there a way to make it run faster and play dead rising 3 with higher than 10 to 20fps and a way to fix bad sectors with out wiping the drive or losing files (its the only laptop i have)
Playing DR3 on that is suicide no matter what you do. At best, you will play DR3 with shitty graphics and FPS for a few weeks before it craps out. If you set a game to low graphics and still get only 30 FPS, then you are damaging your hardware.
i dont play games on it that much anymore since the temp goes up to 170 for gpu and cpu
disc is 107 and ram usage is at 60% with google chrome open
im getting a new laptop in feb since this ones been through a lot the past 2 years
nah it has a clean install of windows 8,1 pro 64 bit
and it has no virus since i have avast avg and my router has northen so im covered
plus i now have the alienware alpha so i can play games at 30 to 60fps with v sync with it off i get over 120 fps
i have them too
and mine tvs 120hz in 1080P plus slim cleaner and ultra defrag
***** lel wtf is architecting
Very informative... The you tube videos that were available when I put together my first pc were no where near this informative. They were 5 minutes tops and left a lot for the builder to figure out for himself. Don't know if you mentioned it or maybe it's on the heats ink already and I missed it, but what about thermal grease?
stock heatsinks usually come with thermal paste pre-applied
I REALLY admire Linus patience hahaha
How can he be describing the same proccess over dozens of vids with the same... IDK... joy (?)?
Great work! Keep it up!
Is this a good build?

I'm not a gamer, tho I plan to play games such as, CS:GO and Minecraft.
What do you think my average FPS be on these games?
Thanks!
Should work fine for mc and cs, if you ever need to upgrade you can always get an r7 250 to do hybrid crossfire.
yeah thanks!
+Jacky Xie I agree that integrated graphics should be fine for him, but I wouldn't say that 20-40 fps is very playable framerates... if you're closer to 40 most of the time, then it's not bad but 20 isn't playable imo
Ive been playing and I've been getting around 60fps, all being without a high render distance.
+mr42ndstblvd why do you type like this l o l
How much was this in total?
He doesn't include prices because component prices fluctuate a lot!
Mathew Teague True, but it would still be nice to know the price of it from when he made it. After all, a lot of people watching this are probably looking to build a value PC themself.
I miss these... please do a video like this one of these days, specially now that Ryzen is a couple of weeks in our futures.
That computer has a very... prehistoric vibe to it xD
Linus, can you test APUs with different memory configuration?
Will the difference when using 1866, 2133, 2400 MHz ram be noticeable? Everyone including you says RAM speed matters for APUs, but I never seen any benchmarks proving it.
12:00 I am using a 6 years old 4:3 lcd screen and it still works like a charm, not a single dead pixel, except for that red one in the corner tho, lol!

618$ on newegg. I got everything, still waiting for my pc case to arrive c:
I think that build is the best you can put together for $600. Nice :)
Good build.
Piers Shepherd Thanks :)
letsgoiowa Yep I got windows 8 just for the sake of better fps in games. Thats what i heard lol
Michael Morgan im not gonna overclock though?
I have A10-6790k too but when I'm playing my cpu fan is too loud.. louder than my sister's hair blower :(
Can someone recommend me a good cpu cooler please
Cooler master Hyper 212 evo, BEST in terms of performance/price
Get a liquid cooler like the corsair h100i
Liquid coolers are much quieter and run much cooler than most air coolers
Juan Carosella Exactly
Icebox56 they may be but they're extremely overkill unless you're keeping your component(s) overclocked to it's limits.
Do not get a liquid cooler its too overkill, just get a Hyper 212 evo,
Watching in 2020....lol
How far we have come in 7 years.
Just noticed, that orange screwdriver is the same one he uses now. That's a good screwdriver
Yeah, Ikr? :) Watching this in my Ryzen 4500u affordable laptop makes me feel fortunate to live in 2020. Oh wait... There's that other pesky thing happening right now, I forgot
do another one of these for 2016 please :'(
I didn't actually watch the whole video so forgive me if you did mention this, but RAM speed? AMD APUs perform so much better with fast RAM, especially for framerates in games.
he mentions it but he sets his to 1600 because he wanted simulate non gaming ram sticks in the benchmarks
Oh alright. Yeah he ran the RAM at even just 1866 the frame rates would have been better
of course but it is hard to find affordable ram clocked at high speeds
***** 2x4gb 2133 g.skill ares $70 newegg right now
patrick broderick
from 1600mhz to 1866 it's not a big difference. it's there just minute. The only time you're really gonna see a difference is jumping to 2400mhz

I plan to do some upgrading in the future. This is my second build. And my first build was cheap. So I treated myself this Christmas to this build. Sure it's not the best. But I'm not rich either :)
***** ehh, maybe. But I'm a fan of amd. No I won't discuss the pros and cons of both. Cause I already know them :)
how much i'll spend in this build???
14:47 "vs their competitor.." hmm... I wonder who that is...
IBM?
Dante Abyssal lol, PowerPC master race, or maybe Via...
Jared lol, this build is designed to compete with the Surface RT...
MediaTek? AllWinner? Samsung?
Cyrix??
Good video Linus. I build PCs as a hobby and this stuff is very enlightening for people to know since they think I'm some sort of a wizard. I just point to this video from now on and tell them build their own machines.
By the way the day i'm writing these i'll have my components transferred to a new case by a friend of mine, but i promise the next computer to be built by my own hands!!!
Wow, them closeups.
Trying to set a new standard for ourselves with every build guide we do. Thanks for noticing :)
Linus!! You forgot the thermal paste! The world will end!
The stock heat sink already has pre-applied thermal paste
TheCannonsMouth Although I guess we could need to remove a protective sticker from it, right? (I don't know what are todays standards about it)
They come with a piece of plastic covering the thermal paste, but it looks like he took it off before showing it on camera
Linus and team, just want to give you guys a HUGE thanks for all the amazing work you guys do, although half the time I know a good base of knowledge about the topic of a video I somehow always learn something new from you guys, and in the best way, a non-boring video of a geek who doesn't have that social niche you guys do. thanks for being awesome and sharing solid information with us all!
nice new intro
The chapter is selection new as well isn't it? That's also a nice touch.
addictedtogreen90
that's in all the build guides
yeah, I actually looked at some recent ones and noticed, whoops :3
WHY WOULD YOU LET THE CPU PINS SIT ON A TABLE?
jun the pins are ok the mother board now
On
Great camera skills.
***** what u mean?
+panos basserpan probably meant the price difference between those two cards is much larger where they live
no it anywhere I look it's just arround 5 $ difference
panos basserpan prices vary by country, so somewhere where you're not living, the market is different for some reason.
For example: often there just isn't enough demand in some country, so the manufacturer wont arrange shipment there, so the parts that do make it there are third party and cost more
if im not mistaken there is some crossfire compatibility with the apu.
I feel Linus should have included an optical drive with this system, because the type of people who would build this type of system would be more likely to need optical storage accesibility.
Well done Linus.. Very impressive job of getting out a lot of information in an orderly and timely manner.
no thermal paste?
Its pre-applied.
No
so how much is this build?
super cheap. with r7 260x id say around 600
***** well it is, especially when compared to premade builds that are marked up by 25%
***** keep in mind that the amd memory is pretty expensive. you can get cheaper memory that will work just as good. and he is wasting a little money using the apu with a separate graphics card. if you go with the richland or trinity athlon x4 processor, you save about 50 dollars and get the same performance. you don't get the built in graphics, but with a decent discrete graphics card, the built in graphics is wasted space anyways.
Im slowly starting to become addicted to this channel for my computer guides and the latest news on stuff
I would prefer others. Back when I subbed they pumped out useful content. Nowadays I get shit. So I would drift towards smaller youtubers
Like TechYesCity,Science Studio,Tech Tested,Joker Productions,and BadSeed Tech
Dont get a single ram stick it will slw down your gaming performance about 50 percent if not more
complete lie
michael mandel No its completely true have yu tried that with an apu? it WILL have 50 percent less performance, because the bandwidth is only HALF. I tried it and it only ran bf3 at 800x450 min settings at 40 fps on a 6800k with 1600mhz memory
Microwilli0 no not by 50%, but true, there is a performance decrease if using 1 stick vs 2 sticks.
I do have a APU system.
well its around 50 because the bandwidth is doubled with 2 a friend could only play bf3 on min at 800x480 wich is reeeeeeeaaalllllyyyyy slow
it will slow your RAM read\write performance by 50%, but that doesn't mean all the system performance will drop.
why dont use a SSHD Or SSD + HDD and more great motherboard
It's a VALUE build... as in cheap
+Chuck80 right I forgot about it
Please more AMD builds. That was a great intro for someone thinking about doing a build versus going to Best Buy and buying a brown box. Well done. But more AMD stuff please. Such as a gaming FM2 build with something such as a Athlon 760k including overclocking tricks.
So that's it? Building a PC literally is just putting on part to another then installing the OS? ..I should try this.
its just lego for grown ups.
(not that adults cant play with lego :P)
And with Kaveri. you could even do wihtout the GPU.
I am 14 years old, ive built 3 computers already, 1 for a friend an 2 for myself, no supercomputers but around 1000 dollars each, That said i built theese two 100% alone since my parents know nothing about pc building, i think you can manage it :)
Ciaran Sundborg we two are awesome then :)
Ciaran Sundborg I have a core i5 4670k at 4.5ghz and msi r9 280x im not quite as rich as you :( but runs every game fine at 1080p
Anyone else notice the Powerade bottle in the background :P
yeah, soo?
Andres Gallego anyone else notice dat sink!
Could watch your tech videos all day! I've learned so much!
What would happen if AMD goes bankrupt than there would be only intel and nvidida with a huge monopol. So really hope AMD comes back with good stuff, even know I would never buy AMD componets
new amd cpu announced a new socket called fm3 it uses the zen architecture
Yep and the 300 series GPUs as well
AMD will never go bankrupt.
Ps4 and xbox use amd stuff.
Mac Pros and iMacs do too.
If you really want a budget APU build, just throw out the GPU.
I got a hd7750 1gb ddr5, 1tb seagate barracuda, pentium g2020 and 4 gb of gskill. Altogether w/o operating system the build cost around £300. It performs amazingly and better than i thought. This would be a great option for sum1 trying to make a value pc
The bad thing for me with monitors is that my animals always come and piss on them and then I have to buy another one
Wtf
Exactly
scarlettears there is no way animals would just randomly do that
CoSMiC TWIX Yeah it's really weird, I haven't figured out why they do it but it frustrates me
well at least u be able to clean the screen of your monitor anyways
Here is my score on a new out of the box Asus M11BB A10 6700 Richland.
i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag226/chris_silvey/A103dmark_zpseca8124b.png
It's rated at the top 20%. I also ran a slew of tests on Pc Pitstop which rated it at 21%.
Quote "AMD is marketing their APU's to us now... No gamer should get an APU, they're for office desktops..."
I have to disagree.
The APU by design jumps over a few conventional bottlenecks and at a fraction of the cost it is a good investment.
linus i cant get enough of your videos... there great
Where my Bois watching in 2020
hi
Why am I watching this.
Very true about the monitor. I've been using mine for 5+ years and it's still working - lived through a Core2 Duo to the Haswell i5 rig now I have.
I kept waiting for the total price to be given.. And it never came O_O
google is your friend
ZrockNorCal Well he told me to fU(k off and just go rant on the guy's video instead. So here I am :P!
"Value APU PC Computer"
PC computer, eh...?
a little handy tip for screwing in standoffs: thread the motherboard screws in the standoff. then you can thread the standoff in with a screwdriver and if the standoff is fully tightened, grab a pair of pliers, hold down the standoff and thread the screw out of the standoff ;)
at the beginning of the video the gpu was a 270x, then in the mounting section it became a 260x xD
no it was always a 260X
It was always a 260x......
It was a 260x through all the video.
Oh you lucky guys. Being able to get this kind of components for that cheap...
Where do you live?
#filipino #problems
J Talle i live in germany and we get hardware cheaper than they
MUTE *angrily hops away on kangaroo*
Dein Ernst? Austria has the same prices as germany in many ways, thank god haha ^^ (Where I live)
How much does its cost
£170 for mobo CPU an 4gb memory I had all the other bits from a previous pc apart from zalman cooler which was £30 that I bought a couple of months later
They used amd ram because amd paid for it.
PS love amd with my apu A8 3760k and my 7850
yay something realistic for once. xD
David Wiita A watch doesen't really get in the way as much as having a cable on your arm that gets caught in everything :)
I just want to say, I love your videos! I'm attempting to build a budget gaming computer and all your videos are so helpful! Thank you!
this pc should use intel..
AMD CPUs are also better for the price. FX 8320/50 is the best price to performance CPU on market IIRC.
There are a lot of other factors such as budget, price to performance, needs and availability that should be taken into account before you simply go "this pc should use intel". So please go fanboyish somewhere else.
Rin Dove Better to go performance for performance.....Im not gonna settle just cause something is cheaper.....cheaping out on a cpu is no way to build a system.
impactkings
cause intel budget cpus got higher ipc and lower energy use
anyoing amd fanboys..
