Baard Kolstad - Illuminate - Leprous drum playthrough
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 вер 2018
- Hey good people! Here's a "one chance" playthrough I did of the song Illuminate after a full day of recording some session material. A song based on a drum groove I came up with - always fun to play! Let me know your thoughts.
Recorded in Urban Sound Studios by Thomas Wang.
"DON'T WORRY BOUT DEM GHOST NOTES, THEY AIN'T NOTHIN BUT REBOUND " - Bernard Purdie 😂
I'm firmly convinced that Baard Kolstad perceives time in a way that no one else does.
Yeah, take a look at Camille Bigeault, she bends time :-p
@@PierreVilleneuve88I just did. She isn’t in this guys league. It’s like they’re playing different instruments.
Just because someone is a girl, doesn’t mean you need to lower the bar.
Been a leprous fan since Bilateral; by God am I grateful they got you on board.
The Modern Hermeticist Pun intended? Lol
Baard on board. Let's talk new Leprous t-shirts...
Imagine if they actually played something from Bilateral live... Stellar drummer but people forgot Tobias who is also a god-tier drummer. Also, for those of you that don't know, check out In Vain's "Currents" because Baard drums on it and only then will you get why he is truly among the modern greats.
Just zapped through the album and found the drums rather default and boring compared to Baard's Leprous grooves and virtuosity in general!
the old drummer was good too, but baard is on the top of the metal league today
3:19 gives me chills everytime
Same here.
Yeahhh
And the way it goes back to the original vibe. Yes! Smoothest bit of magic slipped in, ever!
i found the groove one time in my life and it was amazing. Baard lives in it..
holy s**t! this is one of the most amazing drumming arrangements I have ever seen in about 30 years of metal, prog and whatever I have been listening so far in my life. I see something inspired by Gavin Harrison, something else by Mario Duplantier...and so on...but with a sort of added value, very impressive and unique style!
0:41 4 rythms at the same time!? This guy is not a human.
There's a drummer that did 4 over 5 over 6 over 7 live, I just can't remember his name. Played with Steve Vai if I am not mistaken. Should look that up. :D
Watch mike mangini playing 17/16 over 10/16, pretty amazing.
Baards groove is also pretty amazing! Love when there are still amazing and real drummers rising!
Here's one: Virgil doing paradiddles vs double paradiddles ua-cam.com/video/u7khT8P9Odk/v-deo.html
@@Eivind91sa terry bozzio.
That sounds like something that he is regularly pulling off.
Eivind Antonsen I think that was mike mangini
He just astonishes me every single time. He is the most interesting drummer at the moment. DAMN!
Check out Marco Minneman!
Darkside of Kreigsmachine and Mgla has to be the most exciting drummer for me. Especially his work in Kreigsmachine
Two years later. Still the case XD
Him and Eloy Casagrande. The top two drummers in metal right now in my opinion.
In the last 10 years I’d say!!!
but but but how do you literally play a different rhythm with each hand
*guitarist existential crisis noises*
The Liberation you could do it with different fingers, lute-style
Have you heard of percussion techniques and tapping? Those can help you create polyrhythms on guitar.
A lot of it can be learned by practicing various rudiments, but yeah, he's an animal.
@@AslanW you say it as if it was easy to learn hahaha
*virgil donati has entered the chat*
Ghost notes... ghost notes everywhere... Amazing
Paolo De Angelis without ghost notes how could one break the laws of physics.😄👍
the freaking side snare is haunted, I am telling you.
Just found Leprous on accident tonight, instant fan. Don’t know why I haven’t heard of them yet, soo happy to. I’m a huge TOOL fan, Meshuggah, deathmetal, some Black Metal, prog... the singing, chords, guitars and of course this drumming are just blowing me away, and every song is great, wow
Most creative drummer in the scene. Incredible shit.
That polyrhythm at 3:18 tho
that was freaking freak
i also like polierathmas
He was playing a 8th note triplet shuffle, but then changed to who anyone knows what?
@Matthew Meredith I think he's accenting every 2 8th note triplet note
This is the reason I'm here.. Just incredible.
i've been gay for 4.32 minutes
hahahah. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one. Only with the twist of the left wrist when he hits the box I have felt love
XD
so have I brotha and forever more after watching this
@Victor Louzada To ligado... mas num caso desses não tem nem como não cair nessa, afinal, é o Baard, né cara!
@@FPontiDev Por cierto, "caja" en inglés se dice "snare" :P
AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHGAGAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHSHHSHSHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
Baard is an absolute machine.
That's my favorite drummer right there, yes he is. As much as I love the drumming on Malina I think that this version is even tastier and fuller, you're a sick dude.
Just saw them last week, I live in Germany. Saw them 3 times, hanged out lots with them fellas. Love them so much
They're just the absolute best guys ever. As incredible as their musicianship is so are their hearts, bless them.
The resonance and openness of the drums sound is so great. Love that he really lets his drums be felt in these play throughs.
Unbelievable but also so inspirating! 🤩
Starting playing drums noone can ever hope to become this good .... this just happens. Through insanity and talent ....
Wrong. He achieved this through will power and hard work. Both are at your disposal.
He dissociates in his mind but all sections are of aware of each other. Brilliant and dangerous.
What strikes me most about his drumming is his orchestrations. Perfect compositions. Which as all musicians would know is the single most important thing
The groove in that song is something else. Also the double bass fill @ 3:06 is genious.
I did a double take
He does it at about 1:23 as well
Yes I noticed it on the second listen. Don't why it escaped me the firts time. It made a better effect in the second half of the song somehow for me.
It definitely adds something to the song! This drummer is a beast when it comes to groove
It is, much unlike your spelling of the word genius, which is likely the worst word you can misspell.
Although I'm ambivalent on the last couple of Leprous albums, these drum videos always give me extra appreciation for the craft involved. Just an absurd amount of talent here.
OUT OF THIS PLANET!! THANK YOU FOR THE INSPIRATION MR. KOLSTAD!!
That shuffle is so damn groovy. I can't get enough
So tasteful. Subtle meets frenetic.
Love to watch such a passionate playing. One of my favorite drummers.
Always dug the playing on the records and at the show I caught, but to see what's going on in this detail is awesome! Unbelievable snare playing!
Rosanna shuffle reinvented, huh? Great job!
Heck yes! I reckon Jeff Pocaro would approve. Baard is a frikkin weapon of mass percussion!
Bogdan Skavronsky I thought I was the only realize this
That snare sound amazing
Soooo good. I mean, it's just sooo good. Such a joy watching you play. Your energy and commitment to the instrument is contagious.
Astonishing... Greatttt.
This should be your direct ticket to the drummers' hall of fame of all times.
Seriously - This has got to be the best drum arrangement of all time ...
He has more trouble keeping the hair out of his face than playing S tier drums! Seriously, what a beast!
Love the way you play drums . Crazy skills + peacefull strength which brings so much life to LEPROUS songs. congrats
Holy shit...phenominal drumming and mix as always!
Absolutely awesome, Baard! Thank you for showing us the magic behind the kit on this one! As I've said before, your passion for your music really shows.
I had the pleasure of seeing you play live in Eindhoven last Thursday, and I have to say, it blew me the fuck away. Keep doing what you're doing, Baard- you (and Leprous as a whole) rock!
Seriously one of the most interesting drummers out there. Every time I see that creativity and energy you have I get so inspired. Thank you so much for pushing the limits like that. We all love you
Flawless as ever, Baard. Silky smooth drumming and wonderfully unique technique. 10 out of 10 : )
Yeah, great, really beatiful drum sound
That kit sounds sik! He may be my new fav drummer.. everything about these guys is amazing
I watch this pretty much every day
Great job Baard...you are great...and that Led Zep t-shirt made the drum playthrough better.. :-)
es el jeff porcaro del progresivo!!! excelenteeeee
Re-inventing drumming ! Such a bless you post your playthrough(s), Baard. At last, we can appreciate the sickness of it all. Frankly, what is the matter with lighting on live shows ??? Most of the time, the audience can't see anything of the beauty of your so specific and thrilling way of torturing drums !!! Been on several LEPROUS 2018 concerts and each time, same punishment : you are out of range of light, way behind in the dark. Frustrating, that's for sure. It's a shame cos' it's so fascinating to watch... catchy, hypnotic and always surprising. This one is absolute mind blowing. !!!!
Incredible
This is insane. So inspirational. Amazing 🔥
YES! Iove it Baard! Amazing drumming!
This is a stunner! great!
Great!!!!!! Extraordinary!!
Holy shit what a drum track🤘💯
I'm blown away! Great drumming!
Absolutely fantastic.
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing as always
Your great drumming helped me level up mine !
One of the most creative drummers I've seen in years!.... he will be a Legend in drumland like Mike Portnoy, Gavin Harrison, Danny Carey and Neal Peart.
what do you mean by Mike Portnoy :D
Thanks Baard for the video ! Thats so great to hear one of the best !
one of the best at his best :) love it!
What I wouldn't do to see a Golden Prayers playthrough! Love your work man.
New fan!! Love busy drummers that can float in and out of the pocket with ease.
You deserve more attention, cheers from Croatia.
Lik je iz druge dimenzije. Vremenske ! :D
it's very powerful! full of energy and emotion inside!
Them serpentine wrists so flexible yet each hit is consistent with force and time
Awesome drumming, Awesome song!
This is one of my favortie drums performance. Amazing.
So brilliant, as I said on previous videos, one of the most creative drummer of our time and the future of modern drumming...
Quel plaisir de t'écouter !
On est d'accord ! J'aime beaucoup le fait qu'il rajoute certaines choses par rapport à la version studio. Ce n'est pas qu'une simple démonstration de l'originale ! Hâte de voir leur évolution.
Amazing! see you in NY on Nov. 3rd!
Insane, as always.
Beautiful playing
You never fail to impress me
very well played...... respect!!!
Brilliant, Mate. True artistry.
2:05 subtle but wow neck hair raising
Baard! I'm a drummer and I got really impressed by your drum parts! You are one of the best for me. Keep on inspiring!
That sound is huge !
I like how we have to study his playing to try and figure it all out. This guy's a BEAST!!
It is no man, it is only a machine
Man! what a birthday treat! You sir, are one of the greatest!
Insane! Absolutely my favorite drummer. Now we need a playthrough of CAPTIVE
Amazing, Cant wait to see you guys live in Philly in November!!!
3:18 baard the polyrhythm
Incredibly recorded and filmed! Subscribed for sure!!!
That is absolutely incredible! I love how much you make of a set so small (in comparison to others)!
Wow, big fan of Leprous here, that was a godly playthrough !
These videos always brighten up my day. You're so extremely talented and fun to watch! Thank you, man!
Felix Mollberger thank you so much!
Holy shit what a sound, this is an amazing video, damn!
Masterpiece!!!
your toms are sounds great!!!
Brilliant drummer! Been a Leprous fan since last year and I cannot see no other future then success for you sir!
My favorite drummer. Glad he keeps posting vids like this.. Keep it up man 🎶
Man you are truly amazing
I thoutgt it is not possible....but I have heard/seen it live 2days ago in Leeds......no more questions....
Seriously! I just saw Leperous live in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and I heard for my self and saw with my own eyes... so sick!
Come on man! How I'm suppose to make any kind of progress with my own drumming everytime when I see your performace. Incredible! Everything! You are moving the border to complete different universe! Love you drumming, it's so fun, technical and complex! Keep it up!
Love it!! Songs that are composed from a drum beat come up always very good and original... Another good example : Porcupine Tree - The start of something beautiful
Astounding performance! The main groove in this song sounds very Donati-esque inspired. Excellent work. Looking forward to seeing you folks in Chicago tonight.
Perfeito!!
