It's amazing how much changing a drum pattern can completely alter the sound of a song. If you liked that - and you haven't already - check out The Contortionist, Language Pt I and Pt II. Joey Bacca is the king of pocket grooves.
I always have a strange feeling when i listen to Leprous songs for the first time... but as i am listening to it i start to realize that i can't stop listening to their songs, i never get used to it. Leprous makes the kind of music that works like a puzzle to me, i feel like everytime i listen to them i find something different and it makes me enjoy it even more! This happened to "Stuck" too. Can't wait to the full album. A fun fact is that i'm more into things like Rhapsody of fire, Galneryus etc... But Leprous is actually one of my favourite bands!
That is how progressive metal/rock works man, at least to me, every progressive metal band that are nowadays on the top of my lists were strange and not so pleasant at the very beggining, but when you get used to the tempo of the specific track, with the dissonances applied frequently (which gives a mark to a band) and all the details in melody and chord progression (which makes progressive sound that way) you start to adapt your ear to a complex music and will start to really feel good by hearing it (again and again, the main difference between progressive and power metal is the fact that a ordinary power metal band feels annoying when you keep listen for many years, don't worry cause rhapsody and galneryus are not ordinary, they have progressive elements and neoclassical elements as well) + Leprous have creative musicians that can innovate a lot using the same ideas and by this way don't losing their identity, then your ears start to align with that specific well made sound and even if it is not as common as a power metal song should go, when you get used it feels even better.
It is entering a hypnotic trance, a labyrinth of sounds that forces you to finish listening ... It is like falling into a dimension of lower frequencies, with a feeling that feels like loneliness but not sadness.
@@MikeNevill3 found Haken on the same day actually. Also fantastic. I love the cinematic and theatrical aspect of the Haken universe. Cockroach King, Streams, Lapse, The Good Doctor. Incredible stuff
baard is making incredible things on this song; ghost notes, out of scale/time hits on hihat, the voice of 2 sticks hitting each other(that starts exactly at 1:31) etc... it's a big joy to just focus on him and listening to music like that.
Yeeeeah ! I had no idea of the count, but yeah that's something that I really like everytime I listen to this song. Damn it Baard, why are you so great !
Final verdict on this album: If you like powerful choruses, this album will blow you away. If you like Leprous's more experimental build up segments, you may be disappointed. The songs on the album are very focussed and condensed. I like it, others may not.
Its interesting how Leprous use similiar synth patches on their albums, it really connects tracks together, and it gives great listening experience when you listening full album.
My friend who recommend me this song is now dead. Everytime i listen to this i memory him. Thanks for the good song and greetings to my friend to the heavens or where ever you are i miss you and im in tears. Thank you
Am I the only one that doesn't try and compare an artists new work to their old? Just listen to it. Either enjoy it or don't. People go in expecting this, expecting that. You ever think you're disappointed because of what you built up in your head? Leprous has never given what people "wanted" they do their own shit and they do extremely fucking well
sicdedworm09 You're exactly right. It seems rare that "fans" can evolve with a bands sound as they go through their careers. Expectations can lead to disappointments. Better to go in without a preconceived idea. I love it. Saw them last year and it was one of the best shows I've seen. The musicianship is amazing.
sicdedworm09 Leprous is a band that never tries to do the same thing for two albums in a row, so something like this is expected. That being said, it's still pretty amazing. All three of these songs have been stuck (heh) in my head interchangeably and I loved them all. I also love that no matter what they have experimented with so far, they have never lost their "progressive" side to them.
You're right. It can only sound like Leprous coz there's no one else that does sound like them. It seems the radio is allergic to unique styles these days. Leprous & Haken are the two leading lights in that respect.
No one can deny that Leprous have delivered once again! People were quick to judge from the first single but this confirms they haven't lost any of their spark :)
Honestly, after the three singles they released, From the Flame might be the best. Illuminate is great if you're looking for a track that sounds like The Congregation. But really, the rest of the album doesn't have that feel.
I also really enjoy From the Flame, I think this album will have a mix of familiar-sounding tracks and ones that show a natural evolution for the band, I for one am HYPED for the rest of the album! :D
Captive, is the strongest track of the album, pure progressive, the drummer it's amazing, the vocals never dissapoint Never, Coma, OMG!!!!! Leprous do it again, PROGRESSIVE pure style
His voice is so truly different from anything I’m used to. Not sure if it’s inflections, tones, style. Regardless I love it. These guys are hard to peg which makes them even more appealing. Very different. For the first time in my music listening experience someone that doesn’t automatically make me think of another band. Creative, engrossing, and exciting . Love it. A refreshing new sound ( at least to me).
again these guys take a very interesting poly rhythmic approach to there music.very unique.i like that the drumming is very precise and carries everything, the drummer is the heartbeat of a band and so for this guy to be able to play thru these interesting time signatures and changes of the other instruments and to keep it organic and just tight.is absolutely commendable.i don't know who this drummer is..but i have seen a few of there videos now..and this guy is an amazing drummer.and for this singer..he has a very crisp air about his voice.very focused and clear.bet it was relatively easy for the guys on the board to dial him in and let him go in the studio as for the other voices.i like how you guys have taken such an amazing foundation and non conventional approach to your work and just spun that baby in the mixer and came out with a win..thumbs up
From the Flame and Illuminate delighted me from the very first second but Stuck somehow remains behind. A few more songs like these two and will be an amazing album IMHO!

I'm really digging the new tracks. I've been jumping back and forth between Stuck and From the Flame for a few days now. I can't wait to have the whole record on Itunes so I can just loop it. I discovered Leprous not too long ago to. So its nice to discover the band and BOOM immediately get a new album. I'm so glad I found this band. Its nice to have a proggy band that isn't totally succumb to the whole Djent metal fad.
What I hate most about most Djent music is the screaming vocals. Leprous and Haken are two of my favourite bands right now, especially their later albums. If you have any recommendations of bands that sound like The Congregation of Malina, I would like to hear them!
Man, that intro is throwing me off. The left foot doing off-beats, the right foot making polyrhythmic beats, with the hands doing rudimentary hits while hitting strong accents every 3rd beat, is so damn hard to pull off, in my case. Mad props to Baard.

As a norwegian person, its very interesting how his accent is so noticeable! Usually that would annoy me, but in Einars case it adds like a cooler quality?either way his voice is great
So, I saw and heard this band live just a few days ago. First time even hearing about them. INSANE live. Guitars are a little heavier live (was this an happy accident, because it crushed so hard)
Vermillion honestly people have different definitions of metal.. for me, I find (almost) the whole album to be metal! I could not even for a second think of this album as rock. You don't need extremely heavy distortion on your guitar to he metal in my opinion.
There are two types of people in this world: the one who doesn't like Einar's voice and the one who adores it. I can't get enough of it, surely.
there are "people" not liking his voice? oO
What? Who doesn't like his voice?
unfortuantely, yes. they simply can't get used to it, even though they initially liked their music
I'm incredibly picky about singing voices. But Einar is my very favorite singer on Earth. It's hard for me to imagine anyone disliking his voice.
HAHAHA you're funny. Everybody loves his voice.
That slight change in the groove at 3:15 does all of the song

metric mods are the best
It's still 6/8 it's just a different pattern
for me it's the bass income at 1:57. Elevates the song to godlike levels
Well it’s slightly polymeric in that section isn’t it?
You know those days when you find a new band and never heard anything like it before, but it all just clicks?
Today was a good day.
Increíble. Yo sentí lo mismo cuando los conocí

Tullius Heuer Same here! It's always a mystery whenever you discover new Leprous material, but that's one of the main things that makes it awesome!

Aw i know them, thanks for the suggestion. They're quite amazing. I started listening to them at almost same time as Leprous.

I fell in love with Leprous TODAY guys. I have SEVEN albums to listen to. 🥹
Same. I fell in love with them a few days ago.
Did yah listen to it all. They are something else. Try Haken and Devin Townsend
Lucky you hahaha

This is possibly one of the best prog albums in existence
Yes, Malina and Bilateral are among the greatest for me.
YES!
Haken, Leprous, Dilemma, Opeth, Riverside, they all keep prog as well as my love to music alive
Tried to given Dilemma a listen.
Not a fan of the vocals, musically they're great.
Add The Contortionist to the mix

My God, that drumming🙏😭
I have no clue how Metalinjection gave this new album such a low score. Every song they've realized so far has been a banger.
Brandon Bakken Where did you find that review? I can't find it.
metalsucks, you mean? They gave it a 3 out of 5. Say its "ultimately cold and strangely flat."
We gotta start discovering bands for ourselves and discuss this as a community rather than having journalism tell us what’s good.
most of these metal critics have just average metalhead brain, not able to appreciate something intellectual
Lol, Metalinjetion for an album that is not metal
Why, am I just finding this band?!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!! New LOVE, thank you
these guys have an infinite resource of inspiration. They will remain among the greatest bands in history, I so freakin sure of that
When the drummer threw the 3 over 4 polyrhythm on the hats I came.
Langa Dubazana what minute? I want to learn more about music :)
3:15 pay attention to the hi-hat
Yeeeeah ! I had no idea of the count, but yeah that's something that I really like everytime I listen to this song. Damn it Baard, why are you so great !
I agree
This is insane.
3:15 Poly Poly Poly Poly Po Po Poly rhythm
yeah dude 3:15 tripped me up haha
Bard is an animal. That beat should be illegal.
HAHA IT IS SO GREAT
It's actually a popolyly rhyrhythmthm
It's not a polyrhythm.
Their drummer never disappoints
Yes, Baard is always the best

Your road is paved yet coloured in black
Concealed by the night, it remains
Undiscovered until the dawn
Hidden from the light, it remains
When night confines you
Take my torch
Illuminate
Your God might not try[?]
Light your way
Illuminate
No ray meets your eyes
Find your day
Molded by the dark
Where your shelter lies
Covering your path
Invisible
The fire slowly dies
Couldn't stop your cries
Hidden by your wrath
Invisible
Invisible
Illuminate
Your God might not try[?]
Light your way
Illuminate
No ray meets your eyes
Find your day
Illuminate
Your God might not try[?]
Light your way
Illuminate
No ray meets your eyes
Find your day
Waiting for someone
Daring to see
Shades on your pathway
Leading to me
