I have a 94 sport nautique and need to change my steering cable before spring. Your video gives me an idea of what I'm in for. Thanks, the info you provided will help me.
Hi Brett, I did a video on mine as well a couple years ago. My cable had a part number on the side of the black sheathing. Plus I measured the length at the marine store before I paid for it. Mine was a Seastar cable too and rack style. It hooked right up to my steering wheel assembly no problem. The issue I had due to my boat is an outboard was getting the nut end of the cable through the access hole on the boat to the motor which I found out trying to get the old cable out. I took the rubber boot loose and retaining ring to get my metal rotory file on it to gain clearance. Was successful and the rubber boot and ring still covered it up to prevent water getting in. Otherwise I would have had to pull the motor off the transom to change the cables. You can guess how much a marine shop would have charged me over the cost of the new cable. The cable was like a couple hundred bucks
Tim my cable didn't have any identification on it at all. No numbers or anything. I know I had over 300 in this just doing it myself. A shop probably would have been 800 to 1000.
All that because they decided to discontinue the ssc12417 teleflex cable & change it to the 13417 that doesn’t fit the rack. So what should have only cost the amount of the cable you now have to source out the correct “tilt” rack helm SH91610P that is compatible with both the new SSC13417 cable for a Tilt Steering system!!! I know all this because I’m doing my ‘97 21ft Regal 🤦🏻♂️
Can you put part numbers and where you bought all your stuff? I’d like to see if these would fit my 90 ski supreme as my tilt was removed and no support bearing or anything was put back in place so my steering wheels wobbles everywhere
