- I've often wondered how well one of the world's best wakeboarders would be able to ride behind a super small, old school wake. This was my chance to see Cory Tuenissen take a crack at it firsthand, and I wasn't gonna miss it! ⤵️
Two full days of going from one Nautique to the next at a Nautique Regatta would be enough for most people. Not for Cory and me! When I saw him loading up into a 1995 Ski Nautique to take his final set at the wrap up of the Nautique SouthCentral Regatta in Texas, I grabbed my camera gear and bolted for the boat to join @ddrennan47! Did he step up to the plate? Yep! Did he know what rope length to ride? Nope! Did he even know what a Skylon was? Did he blow our minds? Check this edit out and stick around to the end!

I have seen a number of videos about these supposedly old boats. As a 53 year old rider I have a blast behind my 97 Malibu, and we have fun slalom skiing too.. A $100-200K boat is nice, but a solid, older boat is perfectly fine too.
I used to work at California Correct Craft, I met you years back at Blue Water Casino in parker Az. at one of our owner's reunion. You were always such the consummate pro; friendly, approachable and always ready to teach. Thanks for the decades of great riding and fun times! Rode with Greg Nelson, Luke Wolf and Colin Wright and a few other Nautique team riders back in the day.
I still own/ride behind a 1999 Pro Air Nautique. Nothing handles better than a direct drive!
Sweet! My first one was also a 91 from CCC, a red/black/white closed bow. :) Then I ordered from CCC 2004 Team 210 silver/black/white. Now the 1999 Pro Air Dark gray/forest green/white was also originally sold by CCC.

Oh Doctor ! You guys are taking me back to my VCR days when i watched all of you guys grow up on wakeboard videos . Darin Shapiro was the guy that got me into wakeboarding BUT there was no one as smooth and effortless than Shaun Murray back in the day ! Hyperlight Shawn Murray board with the sun on it was my favorite board and I wore that thing out . Good to see you guys are giving back to the sport , we need more ambassadors of the sport.

Fox’s Air Raid (1996) with Shaun busting a massive Raley and Byerly’s VW rail slides and dock slides was the one that did it for me.

I have a 1992 supra marauder. My father was the first owner and now I am having fun with it each summer. Its in great condition (1200 hours). So its all good! That riding was amazing🥸
i have a 1997 sport nautique which is the boat that you rode behind last year which was a fun video to watch. My uncle has a 95 ski nautique so thank you for the awesome video
Thanks for putting together Shaun! I really enjoy seeing collaborations of old school tech with new school skill. We still sport a fly-high on one of the comp boats we ride since 98'.
For a continuation of this - it would be exciting and fun to see a 'comparative' ==> performing an old school trick run (96'-98' **going big-landing out in flats**) on 'same era boat' - while using both old board/binding setup (95'-98') vs latest new board/binding setup (2022). But don't stop there... grab a handful of riders from both generations (95'-98') and (current)....It would be great to see how similar/different both the board-setups react to the smaller wakes, and how different/difficult the riding is between the generations.
If there was anyone who knew how to properly put this together...Shaun would be the man to do it ... and do it the right way.
Not some bad ideas w the throwback stuff but the part that scares me is using old bindings bc they can blow apart
@@Shaun.Murray Understandable. Maybe only go back to 1999 for bindings - the year of HL highbacks and LF Ultras- those were some game changers and pretty secure. Though if the wildcard-Shapiro-shows, may have to bust out some Sandles 🙂.

What a great video! When I was thirty three I bought a 1995 Sport Nautique very similar in color to this but had teal where the black is. I took it to a guy who made custom towers for fishing boats with a pic of the 2000 SAN tower. He did a great job with an attached bimini. Met my ex-wife on that boat and had plenty of great memories. That was 20 years ago. I always wanted to be a great rider but only riding twice a week doesn't cut it. Now I have a 2008 SAN which we mostly surf but if the water is smooth I will still strap my board on.

I first wakeboarded in 1995. First wakeboard had seatbelt straps on the bindings with two inch epoxy fins. Still ride behind a 1989 Ski Nautique. Things have changed a lot since then.
But that 89 still has lots of fun left in it!

Haha! Lots of things to consider w the regattas. Big enough to hold all the boats, and place to stay are the biggest hurdles.

Love the video Shaun! Me and the fam had an awesome time hanging out and meeting you at the Regatta. We are definitely looking forward to the next! I passed y'all when you were heading out, that had to be a wild ride getting to the other side of the bridge. It was rough in the G so I can only imagine in the '95 haha.

Learned kneeboard on a mid 90s Cheeta(h?) I/O in the 90s as a little kid and wakeboard behind a 2008 SeaDoo Wake Pro 215 :-D
Now mostly ride WakeParks in Germany. Sadly missed all the watersport fun in all my teen years and really started in my late 20s.
Enjoy it now really much but wakeboats in Germany are expensive to buy and run (fuel prices suck).
Such 90s SkiNautiques are often in great shape and reasonably priced because everyone wants the boats with the good wakeboard wakes.

Cory is still one of my favorite pros just for how humble he is , meet him in. Indianapolis. He introduced himself to me. Instead of just assuming I knew who he was…. That really stuck with me

I’m commenting first. Good to see guys behind the boats mortals can afford, I was hunting for an 89 Nautique 2001. I figured it had a great wakeboard wake because I was scared of it as a JR 3 event skier but knew it had a great trick wake. I did find a sweet sub 15k boat it does well with 65 line length, I shorten to 60 to work on toe side jumps.
I have an 89 Ski Nautique 2001. It’s my favorite boat ever. Love the wakeboard wake on it and is a awesome slalom wake too. 🤙

I can't believe we missed this Regatta! We have a 1999 Pro Air Nautique with the original perfect pass (gen 1, buttons only, no screen) and first Nautique tower (FCT1). Amazing wakeboard wake for us old folks. Come join us for a ride in OKC, Shaun!

Absolutely was a good'n. And pretty sure I had one
Back in the day I had a Stratosphere extended pylon. It was actually dual purpose,\; you could mount is out to the side and use it as a barefoot boom or slip it over the pylon and use it as an extended pylon. I used it on an 87 Mastercraft Prostar 190 - great for slaloming or barefooting not so much for wakeboarding but we made it work :).

I started out behind a Sea Doo PWC... You had to cut really hard and work the wake to get air. The first time I got behind a proper wake boat with ballast and everything I totally overdid it, face-planted way out in the flat, and knocked myself out cold. My sternum hurts to this day.

Oh man the days of constant throttle control, boat being pulled side to side, and if you could do any inverts, you were a magician on the water. Also, 4-5 people in those tiny boats with 4-5 wakeboards stacked up in the floor.

First towboat I rode behind a lot was a 1996 sport with skylon, board racks, Bimini, and we later put 4 fat sacks in it. Spend literally hundreds of hours behind the wheel and the boat. This boat had same vibes. Yew!

My first boat in 1998 I added an 8' steel pipe with a tow ball welded to the top. We did what we had to do.

BUT I learned on an 86 Supra Comp closed bow.
I didn't have skylon or anything.
But I did have a Home Depot......
Nice 10' fence post plus ratchet strap to the bow lift eye! HAHHA
Machined a plug out of alum for the top to attach the rope to.

I had an 89 Supra Comp TS6M and the wake was terrible for wakeboarding. There was no pop at all. What was your experience?
@@vegastyle84 Added water! hahaha. I had 2 150-175lb bags I put on either side of the engine. And 2 75lbs "cubes" I would put behind the engine.
Wasn't terrible. It wasn't my WakeSetter, but it was still fun!
Oh, memories... One thing that I don't miss about those days is hitting my forehead on the bimini!

Was the speedo in kilometers, how fast was did he end up? I remember that boat as being the boat we wanted for M3 jumping. Cory seems like a very cool, laid back dude.

Not that I wouldn't love a brand new boat with all the new tech gadgets and gizmos... the boats that were around when I started back in 2004.... are plenty sufficient for my skill level and much more affordable!

@@Shaun.Murray I once had a pair of white Revo's with pink/orange lens. Frame was called cat eye in the 80's. I was super fly!!! Carrera's were always my fav though. In the 70's I was a kid but the cool grown ups had them in Red white and blue, they were pushed as skiing glasses. Went perfect with a CB parkah! The Revo's went with my one piece hot pink ski suit LOL Snow bunny time LOL Do they still use that reference? You were allowed to whistle back then!!!! whew hew
