Replacing the helm and steering cable on a boat

- We noticed a lot of play in the steering wheel of the 2001 Logic 186 cc Cool Bay and since we'd been dealing with a hard right torque problem for years we decided to replace the helm with a no feedback (NFB) helm.
This is a rotary style helm. Every type of boat is different so look at your manufacturer's recommendations as to specific install procedures. I'm not a mechanic I just play one on UA-cam.
Special thanks to my technical adviser! Check out "Rogers Fix it Barn" on UA-cam.
Awesome vid! Used it yesterday to replace my cable and helm. Luckily, after removing the helm end, I had just enough room to remove without taking off motor by tapping the stern end of the cable all the way back inside the jacket before loosening it and pulling it out of the tube. Gave me an extra foot of clearance. You definitely made my afternoon a little easier, thanks.
Thanks for the video. I own a 2007 Triumph 170 CC; very similar to your model. I've had nightmares about replacing the teleflex if ever went bad. Your video showed that it should not be that big an issue. Thanks again.
Was trying for about 4 hours to get the cable from the helm out after this video got it out in 5mins very helpful video thank you.
Thank goodness for this video! Never would've figured out how to loosen the steering cable at the helm end! Thanks.
I was able to change out my NFB Helm steering on my 2003 Proline 19' after watching your Video. Thanks for posting it was very helpful and straight to the point!! 😁🚣. Saved me alot of money.
Just replaced mine today! Upgraded to no feedback. Because of this video, the job literally took 15 minutes, and I was out on the water!
I have the exact boat and I appreciate the video. I don’t have any steering issues, but this will surely be helpful in the future.
Thanks. You make good videos . Watching what you did she make today’s job fairly easy .
Just replaced my cable yesterday and took her out. She turns like a champ!! Saved myself $1300.00.
Short, and concise! Thank you :) this is a very good video
Loved the commentary “My GoPro is getting it’s ass kicked.” And “I keep a small collection of tools in the bottom of the boat for archeologists”
What an absolute pain in the ass my Carolina skiff JVX was. I’m finishing up the job now. Carolina skiff thought it was smart to put a tilt helm that has a complete different size bolt pattern and hole on the center console. So after a lot of swearing, ordering a hole saw and drilling. Finally getting it done. Forgot to mention, had to remove my back deck to even get access to remove old steering cable.
Great job
Thanks! I got to do this on my 1999 Scout 162 Sportfish
Are all boat steering cables the same?
Did you have to do any adjustment to the wheel to make sure the motor turns all the way both ways?
I have a home is CTBS and have the same problem!
my steering is fine, and the boat is new, but i hear a squeaky noise coming from the steering column when i turn left and right. Can I really lube anything? I didn't see in this video anything to be lubed.
Did you have to remove the motor in order to get the cable on/off ? 1970's mark twain tri hull. 85 evinrude. By the engine, there's not enough space to remove the cable off the boat. Bangs up against the side.
