I put this song squarely at Number 1 Skynyrd song. I loved it the very first time I heard it back in jr high, still do, it has more spice than all the others. Never seen it get this much expert attention. It is one of about 3 songs that led me to pick up a guitar 50+ years ago. Thank You.

This Yankee heard the intricacies of this song and the distinct Southern feel of every one of Skynyrd’s songs and was sold for life. Billy Powell just boogey woogies his part of it. Scott, did Ed King create this riff?
Seemed like Allen always played his leads damn near on the pickups. Man I miss all those guys. Your keeping their songs alive with Artimus and Bob. Thanks man!

@@JJ-oe9wc Well like Scott was saying both instruments work together perfectly and Burns drumming creates a shuffle sound. I thought the Allman Brothers were good and then these guys proved they was the one! Thanks for the info.

I first heard this song and thought immediately, this is the best song from Skynyrd I’ve heard (and still is my favorite all time song period), and so started learning this song from audio around 4 months ago or so. I got the basis of how it sounded, obviously nowhere close to being right, but then I get into looking at a tutorial and from my knowledge not one person had a tutorial until I saw you. And my sir, you made the best tutorial and I can confidentially say I can play this song in front of 5 people maximum and still sound great. So thank you so much Mr. Raines, you got me further into Skynyrd with all your tutorials! Much thanks from me 🙏🕊️

It's amazing how good those musicians were at that early age.
A lot of people don't realize it, but it makes a real difference when recording. That is, how much the different guitar parts change, depending on whether other instruments are playing, or the vocalist (Ronnie in this instance) is singing.
The guitarists will essentially play the same chord sequence, but in one case they'll play extra fill notes, or else they won't.
Or they'll play a catchy lick, or else it's more simplified.
Its like the difference between playing the lower strings in a chord vs just the upper ones, bc in cases where there are other instruments, you don't want to "muddy" the register. (I think that's how to say it.)
Anyway, every song they recorded was a masterpiece of arranging and performing.
They were very talented, and it's awesome that they found each other.

Mr. Raines, sorry to bother you sir. Your version of 'Coming Home' with Mr. Burns is amazing. I mean absolutely amazing. I would love to hear you do 'On The Hunt'. I have searched and I can only find Mr. Durden covering the vocals on this track. I personally think you should cover this track. I would also like to mention that I been a Skynyrd fan all my life. The true fans in my opinion adore songs like Mr. Banker, Searching, Four Walls Of Railford,....and etc. I will never understand why you guys never cover their greatest treasures. I would also like to mention that I think Ronald Wayne Van Zant would have been honored to have you on vocals. Thank you and the rest of your band mates for carrying on the legacy. I would also like to mention I mean not disrespect towards Mr. Durden either, I think he does a terrific job as well. I am actually a Audio/Video Design Engineer who is right down the road. Thank you scott for another mind blowing video...ya know I retype this text about 5 times..l.o.l ..an In short the best way I can put it is simply put -your really good at it..an great at explaining it ..wish I could play all those songs, an the way you play them..your the leader,.I'm the student..l.o.l..maybe someday I'll be good enough an something would workout an I could play a while with ya..I've always liked playing different stuff but I grew up listening g to lynerd skinerd the most....I dont know if you ever considered the song"He's Alive" by lynered skinered..its an early one that I think has really been underrated but I'm hearing more an more from some that they as well as myself would like to see this song done in a lesson...what I have seen an is very very little seams to be incorrect at the beginning of the solo..but maybe not...I'm having a struggle myself because no matter how I try it it sounds off...if you ..an I'm not gona say could because I know you can😎..but if you would please consider doing a cover for this one an /or atleast help me start this one off so I could have a chance of playing this with the skinerd/southern feal an for my girl an my son...I would be forever grateful!!..but I say thank you again for all you have given us all...keep your wheels on an keep it rolling bro.!!👍

I would love you to do gimme three steps. I got it down start to finish, but would love to see the nuances I know I am missing. Thanks Scott! You do an awesome job and I love all the backstories you put into these breakdowns.

Thanks dude ! Of course I was playing this kinda' close ,but ,you just gave me the keys to the kingdom ! This really might be their best . I always leaned to Steve ,but the more I analyze it & now !! ,the more I am awed by Ed . I realized how nuts he really was after watching him in 87' on the tribute gigs as much as it kind of pissed me off after the first agreed on tour dates was extended. That was shocking (Ed's playing). This song is really a pain in the ass , and actually just as ripping as anything off SS , thanks to him ! Much appreciated though. It feels so good to play it correctly finally ! With the 3 guitar army & Phyco bass just tearing your brain apart ,it is easy to discern who is doing what sometimes . Really Great lesson .

Thank you so much Scott !! Question for you: last one I needed for my top four !! what budget item would you recommend to split out the three guitar tacks and the base track ? One friend recommended a Korg D888

    • @seraines
      @seraines  3 роки тому

Hi Mike. I don’t know if any gear that can separate tracks like that, but they may very well exist. Those ‘70’s productions used a lot of hard pans. When I was learning the parts as a kid on a record player, I would unplug one of the stereo speakers to pick out one part, then swap it out to learn the other(s). Now you could do the same thing with headphones. Just put in one side at a time to hear the different parts or do the speaker thing if you use those. For bass parts, put on good headphones with nice bass response and adjust the eq to pull the bass out front.

Hey Scott, your videos are great! I play in a Lynyrd skynyrd tribute band here in the U.K. and have just got myself a kemper for recording and practice at home. I love your kemper tones. What profiles are you using? I’m still learning how to fly the thing haha.
    Cheers

EXCELLENT JOB SCOTT. i was wondering if you ever got a chance to play this with Billy Powell on the Piano . I belive he would have loved your rendition , He is a distant cousin through my Grandma Powell , I was also wondering if you have the solos for this song step by step like you did the Rythm parts.. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ....Later Jake P.
