I really liked what they did with the Brutes in Halo Reach compared to Halo 3. Since Reach was technically an earlier time than 3, you can imagine the Brutes having worse equipment since the Elites were more important and got all the good stuff. The Brutes would always want to be the Halo 3 Brutes, but only got the chance once the Elites were removed.
I think I cool idea for future halo games is once you have defeated a chieftain and grabbed his hammer, surrounding brutes should act differently, like they flee or even better are enraged that you, a pweny human have decided to attack them with their own sacred weapon.
Your right on that but... That's like the only reason why people always pick the hog over others vehicles. I bet any other vehicle that would have been in the mission Halo instead of the hog would have had probably become the communities favorite instead of the hog. The only thing really special to the hog is it's team based nature (which makes it great for CtF) but even that has been made less unique thanks to the Mongoose and Covenant versions of the hog existing (Prowler for instance) , the Falcon existing, and somewhat also by the tanks needing a separate gunner for the secondary gun in newer games. I think that the best way forward for the Gravity Hammer at this point is to split it into multiple weapons: 1.) The traditional Gravity Hammer: a functional copy-paste of the H3 Gravity Hammer (my personal favorite version) 2.) The "Gravity Bec de Corbin" (or the "Lucerne Gravity Hammer" whichever sounds better): exchanges most of its ability to throw around players and objects for obscene amounts of damage per swing, with melee attack (not actual attack) being strong enough to one-hit a fully shielded player 3.) The "Gravity Maul": basically an inverse Gravity Hammer which can grapple players and objects like the Fist of Rukt, and then crush them in a gravitic vortex 4.) The "Gravity Mace": a hybrid of a Gravity Hammer and an Energy Sword, similar to Chain Breaker, which functions like a Gravity Bec de Corbin against players and NPCs, but comes with the added ability of being able to absolutely shred any vehicle in one or two hits, though it comes with the risk of being parryable with a parry instantly killing its user, and it uses charge when melee attacking like an energy sword does
I can tell you're real proud of the clip at 9:56 considering you used it like 5 times haha. Well deserved, that was a hell of an outplay :) Can't wait for the Rocket Launcher one!
Why did you focus on grifball with this? It's in other modes. I always looked at the hammer as an anti-vehicle counterpart to the sword tho. Reason why i prefer it to the sword in reach- besides it beating out the sword everytime
I miss team communication. It's been several years since I got to play an online Halo game. A while back, I moved into an area that only has internet service via satellite. This means there are a lot of games I cannot play multiplayer in....Halo being one of them sadly. (If I boot up a matchmaking lobby, it just loads indefinitely and co-op runs with a several second control input delay) The last time I remember playing some online matches was back when Halo 5 was making a little bit of a comeback with updates. I was playing SWAT and when trying to call out enemy locations, I ended up just having my own teammates yelling at me to shut up. We ended up losing that match majorly because people wouldn't communicate, and players kept running into locations that were being covered by the enemy. It was one of the few reasons why I liked the in-game "callouts" that would happen by the actual player characters themselves. Seeing as no one actually communicated via headsets anymore, it was a god send to be playing and hear an in-game character call out "Enemy in blue bend." or "They've got a sniper." Which I later learned was something controversial that a lot of players ended up hating. But I loved it because the game itself had better communication skills to me than my own teammates actually did. As for my favorite version of the Gravity Hammer, I think I loved the Halo 5 version the most manly because it had its own assassination animation.
hey late night love the new video, this is probably my favorite series of halo videos now. I have a suggestion for another “evolution of...” video. I think the stationary weapons of the game would make an interesting entry to the series. They have changed a lot over time with especially from 2 -> 3. I had a debate recently with my friend about the UNSC machine gun and I argued halo 4’s was the best for its accuracy when tap fired. Just a suggestion, keep up the great work!

I'd say do the Plasma Pistol next. Seeing how it's been in every Halo game to date and that It'll be interesting to see how each iteration fits into each Hao game's META.
22:40 Damnit, I've now got idea for how you could lore-justify that. A group of Rag-tag survivors from one of the various conflicts (perhaps a human, elite and a brute and some others) wind up banding together, and one day after noting just how far the hammer sends people, the brute and whoever their engineer is work out a hammer than can (somewhat) safely launch even someone as squishy as a human a long way. It does greatly reduced direct damage since it doesn't actually hit anyone, but it causes a huge push that can knock people over ledges or into walls with enough force to damage or kill them. Lore-wise, the weapon goes on to be the Brute's most cherished 'weapon', having enabled him and his friends to pull off all sorts of insane heists, and eventually it catches the attention of some equally-creative Spartans, leading to it being taken on as an unconventional utility item in a Spartan's toolbelts.
This here? My only reason to get up in the morning. Best weapon, without question, in all of gaming. Nothing, puts a smile on my face more, than this big stick that just goes boom.
I may be a bit late, but I would love to hear you talk about the evolution of the warthog, as it is halo's most iconic vehicle and is the reason halo is a shooter at all. There isn't much of a model change between games but the history is just so intriguing.
I personally liked Reach's hammer the most, I know this sounds weird but due to the gameplay mechanics with it. In Reach, you can alot more reliably melee kill without lunge, this also applied to the hammer being able to cause harm or kill players with it. Just like with the sword you could do turn kills which were much rarer in Halo 3 due to the way melee was done. Plus, I like the model most with the fire booster things on top of the back, looked really brutish.
I love when Halo weapons have dual-functions, like the plasma pistol's ability to disable vehicles and shields; and I wish we could get more brute weapons and vehicles with these dual functions. One idea I had was a brute version of the wraith that was really just a "Gravity battering ram" - which could suck in a vehicle with a gravity beam, and then smash it to pieces. Or a brute version of the banshee that could fire an overcharged plasma shot to disable other vehicles and shields, and as a secondary fire mode use needle rifle rounds that would only take a few hits to supercombine against Spartans - requiring good aim, but would also require a few more hits to blow up vehicles. Or maybe something like a lightning gun in the sense of a "chain sniper" which could kill one target in two hits, but if you charged the shot could chain the damage to anyone (friend or foe) within a few metres, with each person hit taking half as much damage as the last. Food for thought. With the brute-led banished being the big new bad guys of Halo, I think new and iconic weapons, tools, and vehicles could be worth brainstorming.
*Halo 3 Hammer*: Pure destruction. Sounds like space is getting ripped right in front of you *Halo 4 Hammer*: Sounds like a shotgun *Halo 5 Hammer*: Sounds like some sort of pulse rifle
What I always found kind of odd is that halo 2 seemed to be implying that the brute shot was the brute version of the energy sword within halo 2's sandbox. And then the gravity hammer comes along and steals that idea for itself.
Through testing I have found that in Reach the hammer can significantly lower fall damage and improve jetpack performance. The physics are still useful.
Evolution of corpses next? Killing enemies and halo has always been different. In halo ce they played a still animation. In 2 they had this anim but a few seconds after death they ragdoll 3 fixed up this to make it more fluid of a anim to ragdoll 4 used fragmentation and disintegration to save resources Reach made they ragdoll-anim almost indistinguishable 5 used halo 4s method etc etc
It’s STILL insane to me that what started as just a joke in a comedy machinima series became a legitimate MP mode in the actual game series.
Not the first time its happened, and it wont be the last most likely. If the fandom likes something, they'll make it work.

The voice of Bender from Futurama and Jake from Adventure Time is the same voice as the Brutes @3:30? You learn something new every day
Halo 3 gravity hammer sound effects is etched into my mind forever.
9:00 that transition was sick
I am here exclusively to say the cut at 26:54 is outstanding
1:02 Soon the Great Journey will commence, but when it does, the weight of your heresy will stay your feet, and you shall be left behind.
How am I the first like for such a funny comment?
A funny 3yr old comment at that
Seeing that alternate HUD around 22:32 makes me wish we had alternate HUDs in Halo 5.
*Halo 3 Hammer*: Pure destruction. Sounds like space is getting ripped right in front of you
*Halo 4 Hammer*: Sounds like a shotgun
*Halo 5 Hammer*: Sounds like some sort of pulse rifle
wait those were Easter eggs in Halo 4? damn I guess I must have done them by accident
Late night gaming try not to say "oozing with personality" challenge (impossible)
Late Night Gaming, Thanks for all the calming fun content! I really enjoy it and I hope you know a lot of people do :)
Halo 4s melee animation is so good lol finally the blade being used
I miss Grifball. Still my favorite multiplayer gametype in history.
Evolution of corpses next?
Killing enemies and halo has always been different. In halo ce they played a still animation.
In 2 they had this anim but a few seconds after death they ragdoll
3 fixed up this to make it more fluid of a anim to ragdoll
4 used fragmentation and disintegration to save resources
Reach made they ragdoll-anim almost indistinguishable
5 used halo 4s method
etc etc
A weapon that looks advanced and primitive at the same time
