Band-Maid ladies are on the badass mission to conquer the World and teach everybody what the rock music is truly about. They are very inspiring: a lot of musicians who gave up on the music for decades because of the prevalent "music" sh*t around, began pulling out of trash in basements and attics their long-forgotten instruments and breathing some life back into them. Long live rock'n'roll, long-live Band-Maid!
A band so good they will turn you into a fan before you even hear the singer. And once you do hear Saiki, you'll be a life long fan.
The singer? They have two, Saiki and Miku (who is also the rhythm guitarist in this video).
They are hands down the best rock band alive at this moment. The best. No exceptions

Well done Kurtis, you have just discovered the finest heavy rock band in existence! They have just entered their 10th year and have a huge back catalogue for you to discover. Though a heavy rock based band they don't stick to any genre, you will hear classic rock, punk, pop-punk, metal, prog, blues, jazz and groove from them, often in one song. They can blow your face off with a prog punk speed romp or melt your soul with a ballad. They do a great line in acoustic tracks too. Apart from their insane talent and song writing craft they are also five of the nicest humans on the planet without a shred of ego. They love each other and they love their fans. They are fun and funny with slightly insane personalities and they are bringing joy back to rock and roll! Their instrumentals are designed to give Saiki their lead vocalist a break mid-set as the often play sets of over 2 hours.

Miku (rhythm guitarist/lyricist/vocals) used to work in a Japanese maid cafe, and she came up with the idea of a rock band dressed as maids. MISA (bass) and Saiki (lead vocals) eventually chose black variations.

This is considered a Sai-ki (Lead V.) "Pee" break instrumental. They have a few instrumentals for this reason because their last Tokyo concert was 2 and 1/2 hours long, for example. Band Maid is the Pigeon Brain child of Miku Kobato (Rhythm G. 2nd V., Lead Pigeon). She used to work at a Maid Cafe in Akihabara, Tokyo and got this crazy idea of melting the maid cafe theme into a Hard Rocking band. Hence, you get Band Maid. Welcome and thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this song performed live twice with this MV quality in Tokyo and dropped my jaw twice 😲. I believe so did many of American audience at 12 venues in the last October. This song has been normally played in the middle of the setlist to give Saiki, lead vocalist, some break. They played this song, however, as opening at three festivals (including Aftershock, Sacramento) and in Guns N' Roses concert in Japan as support to the legendary band. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who knew nothing about the girls in maid outfit on the stage. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! Listen to us and open your eyes wide! We are not the persons that you think ! Salute us!" So you got a good start. Please salute these girls 😄

Hi Kurtis. Great reaction. Be ready for the impact. The band is a miracle for the music and wait until you see them live official or fancam. They have a huge catalogue and is literally impossible to find a bad sogn or a filler song. Again be ready for the impact and pick any song, no problem. Enjoy the miracle...and the spectacular singer of the band, called Saiki. In the last days I have heard comments like ' the best band in the history...', 'the best thing since The Beatles...', etcetera.
Well, I will not say that, so far, but sometimes I have this kind of comments 'flying' over my brain...
They have 4 or 5 instrumental tracks that they use for a lead vocalist break when playing live. Out 120 or so songs you picked one of their instrumental songs. The outfits... basically Miku (backing vocals/rhythm guitar) was in between groups when the Jpop group she was in fell apart. So, she worked for a time in a traditional Japanese Maid Cafe until she decided to form her own band called Band Maid. She used the maid cafe style uniforms to form a jokester contrast look to the hard rock style music they would perform. In Japan they call it "the Gap".

BAND-MAID is a five-member girls rock band. They are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. The members have not changed. They are a hard rock band and fans consider them one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually have 20 songs and 2 hour gig. Formed in Japan in 2013, led by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Kobato has experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara, Tokyo, and came up with the idea of playing cool music in her maid outfit. That's why the band was named BAND-MAID. "Thrill" was the first music video of 2014, reaching 2 million views in 2 weeks, and they escaped disbandment and decided to become a hard rock band. Also, they perform LIVE overseas and increase the number of fans. Now they write, compose and arrange all their songs. 130 original songs. And 46 songs have been released on the official UA-cam, all of which are killer songs.
■ They have just finished his 13 gig tour in the US.

It is a five piece all-female band comprising three human beings, one small pigeon and one half-human half-gorilla.
They are brilliantly talented, exciting, beautiful, cute, sweet, polite, humble, funny and a wonderful team in which they all support each other. They have surely worked their butts off for almost a decade to become as good as they are.

This is a great introduction to Band-Maid. Not to take anything away from their instrumentals, they're really fantastic, you're missing out on Saiki's main vocals and Miku's backing vocals. Just pick another song and you'll get there. My personal favorite is an older song: secret my lips. also check out the alternative version of this song from Band-Maiko.
To listen to Saiki sing there are many songs that demonstrate her wide-range. She has a lower vocal range which allows her to easily belt out rock songs which is why Miku wanted her to join the band. You could listen to another song on the Same album entitled "Influencer" to get an idea of her vocal range.
They only have four instrumental songs, I think (I may be wrong). The vast majority of their music has vocals. They have two singers. Saiki, the lead vocalist, sits this song out. Miku, the rhythm guitarist with the red rose is a backup singer and sometimes second lead vocalist.
The maid costumes were the brainchild of Miku, who is the founder of the band, and are a callback to the very beginning of the band, which she conceived while working at a maid cafe. Each member chooses and customizes their own outfit. They're all maid costumes, but not all are the same kind of maid concept. Miku, Kanami (lead guitar), and Akane (drums) all wear variants of the traditional serving maid outfit (though Akane's is more sleek, to give her more range of motion behind the drums, and only hints at a traditional maid costume). Saiki (lead vocals) wears a solid black costume that is more reminiscent of a housemother or governess outfit, so less of a cutesy serving maid and more of an intimidating authority figure style. MISA (bass) steps outside the world of traditional real-world maid outfits and goes more for an anime-inspired "assassin maid" look. Their individual styles change every couple years or so, but are still unique to each member.
Kanami also has a couple "intro" pieces she composed as concert openers. I kinda wish they would release those as well.

They shine performing live- I had the distinct pleasure of seeing these ladies live in Chicago on November 1st and it was amazing! Welcome to the new Beatles! Yes, they have singers. Their Rhythm Guitarist/ Lyricist & Founder, Miku, is also the Backing Vocalist. Their Lead Vocalist, Saiki, has a very powerful voice, but they do instrumentals as well, as you saw. They cross over all the genres of their influences seamlessly, sometimes in the same song. Check out some of their official LIVE videos. Miku, Kanami & Akane were the first members of BAND-MAID and were totally on board with dressing as maids. MISA did in the beginning but soon switched to the all black look. Saiki they didn't even tell about the uniforms to begin with. They just told her they would be playing hard rock in cute clothes, so as not to scare her off. She too soon switch to the all black. Those two are kind of The Darkness Sister of the group. They give BAND-MAID their edginess. With our them it would be all sweetness and light.

I saw and witnessed GOD in Akane’s drumming for this song performed at Tokyo Garden Theater, held on Jan. 9th, ’23.
Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors from Tokyo University.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Frequently snacks between songs.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).
Obviously, Saiki was a no-show in this video, but she will blow you away.
The Maids excel live, so check out the following official live performances- Domination, Freedom, Onset, Play, and the Manners/Black Hole double feature. Indeed- they have only like 4 instrumentals out of their 120-130ish songs - a fantastic main singer with a deeper than normal voice for a japanse woman, and the rythmn guitarist from this song is their 2nd vocals- she is also an amazing singer in her own right who often harmonises. The lead guitarist also occationally has a bit of singing too!
But they are known to always knock it out the park with their instrumentals :) They sometimes open with one and usually have 1 or 2 halfway through long sets to give the singers voice a break.
p.s They have also done instrumental 'versions' of about 10 of their other songs - but the vast majority of the time they have singing- (in mostly japanese ofcourse- with the odd english word or phrase).

It was your first time listening to a BAND-MAID song, and I enjoyed it because of the good reaction. They have many great songs, all of which show their talent. "WITHOUT HOLDING BACK" and "Onset" are also one of the few instrumental songs, so please listen to them. Of course, songs with Saiki's vocals are even better.

Kanami (The Princess)- Music, Lead guitar, (keyboards). Saiki (blue rose, The Ice Queen)- Lead vocals, some lyrics. MISA- (Barefoot Assassin) Bass. Akane (The Gorilla) drums. Miku was working in a Maid cafe in Tokyo in 2013 and just had the idea of contrasting the maid look with a rock band. Unlike some bands that have their images imposed on them by their music agents etc, which is quite common in Jpop. Saiki and Misa later developed their costumes to a slighly more black/goth look. This is from an interview back in 2016.
Interviewer: Where did you get the idea to use maid outfits?
MIKU “I used to work in a maid café! I would wear cute uniforms every day and entertain our customers, who we call masters and princesses. At the same time I was really into metal and rock music, and I thought how different the two worlds were. Here I am at work, singing super cute songs to a milkshake - it’s how we make them extra tasty - but on the way home I have my headphones in, blasting Maximum The Hormone. I thought that it would be cool to combine cute uniforms with cool music, so I set about recruiting the members of Band-Maid.”
Interviewer: Maid outfits aren’t exactly rock ‘n’ roll. What is your ultimate heavy metal costume?
MIKU “Now Band-Maid’s outfits are part of rock n roll, so we pick these!”
Interviewer: Why should people listen to Band-Maid?
MIKU “We’re not a pop idol group! Don’t judge us on how we look. We want to blow you away with our heavy rock sound.”
Interviewer: For those who don’t know about Band-Maid, what are you about?
MIKU: “Band-Maid’s concept is about creating contrast - how we look and how we sound are worlds apart. One is cute and submissive in nature, the other is wild, powerful and dominant. I thought that idea was interesting. Basically, we want to defy expectations.”

You’ve stumbled onto the best rock band going. This is their most recent instrumental and yes they have a singer along with the rhythm guitarist you’re watching. Band Maid started around 2014. I recommend you start from the beginning and watch their first music video, a song called “Thrill” and other earlier songs. You won’t be disappointed, there’s a lot of great songs to listen to.

Yes, they have a singer and she's just good as the rest of the band. And the rhythm guitarist sings too. They've been producing albums since 2014 and they are starting their 10th anniversary. OH, YES, listen to their Official Live Videos, they are just as amazing live, maybe even more so.
OK, the maid uniforms: it's a long story and I'm going to leave out a lot of details. The second vocalist and, eventually, rhythm guitar was working in an Akihabara Maid Café and thought that a band wearing cute maid outfits that played really hard rock would be an incongruous surprise to audiences, be very memorable, and differentiate her band in Tokyo's highly competitive music scene. She recruited the lead guitar, who called her best friend and asked her to play drums. The guitarist and the drummer were OK with the maid outfits and went along with that idea. The drummer called a classmate and good friend and asked her to play bass. The bass player liked the idea of playing hard rock and begrudgingly agreed to wear a maid outfit. They then recruited the singer. They were afraid she would turn them down if they told her about the maid outfits, just saying, "We wear cute clothes!" and when the singer showed up for the first gig and saw the outfits, she was pissed! She refused to wear the apron. The bass player and primary vocal have since evolved their "Maid Uniforms" into their own individual stage costumes. Yes, the bass player looks like a Ninja Assassin and is nicknamed "The Barefoot Assassin" as she plays barefoot. The lead singer's costume barely resembles a maid's uniform anymore. I will just say that onstage she looks regal and commanding. She is sometimes called "The Ice Queen."
Band-Maid has a catalog of well over 100 songs. Most of their songs are good, the rest are a great, and many are jaw-droppers. Their first few albums featured music that was written for them, but they have since taken creative control and they now write and produce all their music themselves. "From Now On" is the latest result of that creative process. Unlike many bands who bottle lightning for their first few albums and then hit doldrums, Band-Maid has been on fire for the majority of their career, improving with every album.
I can't recommend this band enough: their compositions, lyrics, and arrangements are consistently good and their live performances are of the highest standard. They're Amazing. They are one of few bands that can deconstruct their hard rock songs and transform them into a viable acoustic arrangement. Their 2021 Christmas Acoustic Online concert was awesome. As an April fools joke they changed from maid outfits into Maiko (apprentice Geisha) robes and make up and performed Japanese folk-metal as "Band-Maiko" .

on the outfits, in theory they’re all maid outfits, but some girls embrace it more than others. Each album they get new ones, and the bassist and lead singer both get further from the maid esthetic while both guitarist seem to be more fancy maid outfits. The drummer just tries for something that she can play in really… If you go back to their first music video (Thrill) you can see some of their more traditional maid outfits.

Not sure why introduce you to band maid without vocals but still a great song and most have vocals.
The BM catalog is over 100 songs. Almost every single one is worth checking out. Even their B side is better than most band's top seller. You really can't miss with this band. As we maidiacs say "My favorite Band Maid song is the last one we heard".
They are a lot of fun but their work ethic is incredible. For example, they each wear just one outfit at a time until it wears out, and they wash them by hand after every performance.
