@@interstellardave Have no fear, it is true, no matter how crazy it seems. Some people just have that undefinable ability to do exactly what they want pretty much want to do, when they want to do it. Kanami is a rare gem. When you see her at interviews, or during the breaks during a show, she is quiet and almost introverted to a point, though it has come lightyears from the beginning. But when she puts on her PRS she becomes a different person altogether, a master of music.

Exactly, guys. No one is becoming a Maidiac because they’re cute gals in maid dresses playing average rock music. Many of us come to this band with decades of listening to the greatest bands of rock history; the Beatles, Zeppelin, Yes, The Who, Rush, U2, GNR, Metallica, etc…an average band isn’t going to cut it and isn’t going to motivate the level of enjoyment, enthusiasm and admiration we hold for this band. It’s because they are not an average band. And in them we hear and experience many of the same aspects we did with those titans of rock. The Maids are a special collection of musicians that doesn’t come around all the time.
If anyone needs more proof, go watch their live set from Lalapalooza that Hulu filmed and is on UA-cam. The Maids absolutely burned that stage to the ground!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If that doesn’t make you a Maidiac, you probably have some serious mental health problems you should have looked into 😂
Take care and rock on 🤘🏼😀🎸🥁🎤🎼🔥😀🙌🏼✌🏼

Saiki the lead singer has had throat surgery in the past so the band are very careful with her voice. They play 2+ hour shows so to give Saiki a break around mid-set they do three things. 1. Play an instrumental, 2. Miku (rhythm guitar) takes lead vocals for a song or two (she has a track usually once per album where she is lead vocalist) and 3. Miku will do her legendary and hilarious "Magic Time" MC set. Then Saiki comes back on to finish the set. So yeah, they have a number of really cool instrumental tracks. Check out the live MV of "Onset" for another instrumental banger!

You guys are right on! ATTACK! Kanami is a tour de force. They've done several instrumentals to give Saiki a break in concert. ONSET-LIVE and WITHOUT HOLD BACK and DON'T BE LONG are intentional instrumentals. BAND-MAID also has "white room" videos that are instrumentals of songs without the lyrics. ALL are Awesome and beyond. You just can't compare BAND-MAID to any other band. The Awesomaids are currently still ascending the Rock world with no let up during their 10 year anniversary tour. Check those other instrumentals and you will not longer be surprised at what they produce. Peace. 1.86

Gotta give a shout out to the pianist, also Kanami, the piano is used as an integral part of the song here, to move the melody along rather than just a backing track to add depth or colour. Kamami's Classical training showing through here, this is a short sonata for five instruments, with the exposition, development, and recapitulation being separated by Misa's featured parts.

You have hit on a very key point that is most times not mentioned. I have been following music for a long time and I haven't been this impressed with an individual since the heyday of Brian Wilson. Kanami is a Mozart-like savant who just excels at what she does best.

I think that most Madiacs would guess its them after Misa enters with a solo, because no other band does that and I mean NO OTHER BAND has that Bass signature sound on every song, it doesn't matter if its a song from 10 year ago or made last week, you will always get a piece of her heart. All Band-Maid composed songs start out as instrumentals. Kanami is the primary composer of the group, with MISA and Akane filling in their parts within that framework. Miku (occasionally Saiki) writes the lyrics to the music. Pretty much every song works as an instrumental and many have been released as bonus tracks in instrumental form. That's why their compositions are so concise with no wasted space within them. Sure, they could write a fourteen minute book report and try to stretch three minutes worth of music out to fit their lyrics, but Band-Maid's style always yields better results.

This is the first track of their EP "Unleash".
In a radio interview, when Saiki was asked for the reason why she picked this song to be the starter of the EP, she answered "because it's cool that way"👍😁
In case you didn't know, Saiki basically decides the order of songs for their EPs and albums.

You guys may think I'm mental, but the creation of Band Maid is almost like a cosmic event if you really think about it. The serendipity involved in the creation of the band is mid-boggling. Miku Kobatu has had a dream of being a singer in the music scene since she was young. She did do some work in the J-Pop area but it just wasn't for her. She then works in a maid cafe in the Akihabara neighborhood of Tokyo, which is something peculiar to Japan. She has an idea to start a band with a maid theme to it. Despite her pigeon persona, she is a serious person with a serious dream and determined to do it. Next, she searches the internet and happens upon Kanami Tono, a singer-songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist. They get together and start building. Kanami says she has a drummer she has worked with before named Akane Hirose who is quite talented (that's the understatement of the century regarding all of the band members). Akane is in and suggests Misa, whom she went to music school with as the bassist, and the original lineup is set. One thing to mention is that Akane , Kanami and Misa all play multiple instruments, from guitar to drums to piano to trombone to alto sax to trumpet. After there initial start, with Miku singing lead, she realizes that the hard rock style needs a different voice. So they have tryouts, and choose Saiki Atsumi, a singer looking towards bigger things. Miku then decides to learn to play the guitar, and who is a better sensei than Mistress Kanami. And Miku becomes extremely proficient in playing rhythm guitar, which fits right in with the classic rock band formula, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass and drums. Then you add in the Miku's fine work in her vocal harmonies with Saiki and songs where she sings lead. It's now that we take a deep look at the straw that stirs the drink........Kanami Tono, who turns out to be a instinctive genius in composition and with an almost pathological desire to write music all the time. Who else would, in the middle of the 2022 US Tour, traveling by tour bus across the US, take the time and effort to write a song specifically about the myriad numbers of die-hard fans across the globe who love Band Maid passionately, a song named Memorable. And in the ten years of the band's existence Kanami has grown and has gotten better with every song she writes. Add to that the fact that she is an amazing guitarist that compares favorably to all of the great, male or female. And I haven't forgotten Saiki. She has become a legitimate star frontwoman as good as anyone in muisic today. And let's not forget Band Maid's passion for their fans, which is like no other today. And it shows with every live show they do. As I have said in other comments, it's Kismet. There stars were perfectly aligned to give us the spark that has resurrected classic rock from its long doldrums. No writer today could have written a script like that, so similar to the great story A Star is Born, written by Moss Hart for Judy Garland in the 1954 film classic. I apologize for my extreme wordiness, but I had to say what I had to say.

They played this song, however, as opening at festivals and in Guns N' Roses concert in Japan as support to the legendary band. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who knew nothing about the girls in maid outfit on the stage. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! From Now On is the opening track of their 2022 EP called Unleash. The EP is appropriately named from this track through to the last track called "Hate?". In the middle of most shows Band-Maid does an instrumental and a Miku vocals song to give Saiki a break. When I saw them last October, the performed From Now On and two Miku songs because it was her birthday. They recently performed at Lollapalooza and this was their first song of the set which I think was a brilliant decision. They knew that a large part of the crowd would have no idea who they are, so what better way to introduce their skills than start with this instrumental. I have watched a video of their entire Lollapalooza set, and they were amazing (especially the dueling between Kanami and Misa).
Would I have known this was a Band-maid song if my first listen was blind? I am confident that I would have known mainly because of the Misa solo. Few bands highlight the bass like Band-Maid and few bassists have the skill and distinctive style of Misa. I would love to see Misa and Koga of Gacharic Spin in a bass duel.

As far recognizing Band-Maid, I have gotten to the point now that I recognize both Kanami and MISA tones and playing style. Miku's tone is still all over the place, yet as the rhythm guitarist it's supposed to be. They have four instrumentals, interestingly enough, they didn't start out making MV's of their instrumentals... If you want to see/hear their first instrumental "Onset" you need to go to an Official Live video of a performance. But that live video became so popular they changed their mind set about instrumentals and included music videos with their Instrumentals from then on. If you like this... and the vocals... you may want to check out their new song "Shambles". It's instruments "arguably as good or better than this" with Siaki's/Miku's vocals as well. They just keep raising the bar...

Insightful comments and interesting take on this composition. Amazing how much they’re communicating without words, right? This is the song that hooked me.
I don’t buy the “give Saiki a break” reason for these songs. These instrumentals are well-though out and composed too well to be a show filler/time killer. That’s showing no respect for how talented they are. Saiki’s rest is a side effect.
Thank you for recognizing the contrast between Band Maid instrumentals and your example of Satriani. To me, Satriani sounds like he’s playing to a UA-cam backing track. This is an entire ensemble telling a story inside a balanced composition.
Great question on whether sound alone gives the Maids away? I’m pretty sure fans can tell. Kanami has several signature traits that I’ve locked into. MISA’s playing is probably easiest to identify in a crowd.
Which begs the question: if not Band-Maid, which other musical artist could this have been? I’d love to hear some guesses
