- After watching "Star Trek: First Contact" I wanted (ofcourse) to hear full version of "Magic Carpet Ride"...best watching the flight of Phoenix with it. After shuffling through few pages of related movies I've realized there's no movie that could satisfy me
Yep...so i decided to do it by myself :)
Hope You'll enjoy it!

I wanted to assign this video to Creative Commons but it was denied because of material used in it, so i write it here:
Sound and picture were taken from web pages where material is freely accessible. "Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride" is in unchanged form from beggining to the end (as oryginal as I could get it). "Star Trek: First Contact" frames (and a bit of sound) were matched to imitate music video clip, or something like that. As You can clearly see on handshake flash (that I hope is not too lame by the way) I didn't even use any professional tool...just MS Movie Maker...and I'm proud of it ;) . "cgrimm did it" stands only for cutting and putting together someone else's material for which I don't claim any rights. Therefore it is understandable that from my side no one will get any problems after sharing, remaking or whatever You want to do with this movie. I have a great hope that Paramount Pictures and holders of rights to Steppenwolf's work will feel the same way and will let us enjoy this tiny part of their great work. I hope You'll just add advertisements or something but please don't block this video...one way or another all material is Yours and I don't get any profit from it...I've made it and shared it only for the creeps :)

Sorry in advance for not responding for any comments. As You probably know we have to change our UA-cam account names for this from Goolge...and it pisses me off like hell! I won't do that as long as it'll be possible ;)

I hope, that in the distant future on the real first warp-flight, the astronauts will remember this and blast this song all through their communicationsystems
+Martok86 It shall be done.
I shall blast this On my first journey to the stars......and if the one im on turns out to be my last one.
Make it so!
Best comment ever! Thumbs up!
Check out ua-cam.com/video/JIUIh7dxlnI/v-deo.html and make it so.
I can't believe more people haven't checked this out. Most righteous moment of the best TNG film when he turns this song on.
I shared it on my FB page during the election. Because the present was so dreary, I wanted to post my favorite film depiction of the future as a sign of hope and good faith.
That and in Insurrection when Riker mentions using the Briar Patch the same way that Brer Rabbit did.
Coming back to this after the homage in Star Trek Picard
I sure was stoked!
When the first astronaut breaks the Light Barrier, they should be playing Magic Carpet Ride...it would be the right thing to do.
Damn right
Such a great scene
I totally agree dude
While saying “engage”
The people did demand that nasa name one of the shuttle's enterprise. Just saying.
I bought my first Harley Davidson not too long ago. I named it 'The Phoenix' after Cochrane's ship. And yes of course the first song I blasted from my speakers was "Magic Carpet Ride." Make it so!
what model, dude?
YEEEHHAWWWW THATS RAD
@@BFNgaming2024 1999 Fatboy
This fucking scene, made me laugh, cry, smile and gave me goosebumps at the same time.
What a fucking legend
Especially the shot at 1:12
I agree 100% and I've never even seen this Star Trek movie! I like the part at 00:19 , where Deanna gets blasted by Rock and Roll! Take that, all you future mind-reading girlfriends! I really think he should have said "Let's rock and roll baby!!!" because that would have been more in line to what someone around the Steppenwolf time frame generation would have said.
My sincerest thanks to whoever posted this and the makers of that movie because now I've got to watch it. I gave up on this Star Trek movies. But maybe there's A New Hope. : )
@@dandaman2753 This was one of the *BEST SCENES* in FC. This & Lily reading Picard the riot act about blowing up the Enterprise E.
I still think they did Cochrane dirty. His portrayal in the pocket novel Federation was much better, and tied in well with Encounter at Farpoint, where Q mentioned they used to control soldiers with drugs (they show that time period in the book). It portrayed him as a dedicated scientist and good man who nonetheless had a tragic life.
@@WardenWolf ill have to check that book out, im interested to see the difference
Best part of the whole frickin' movie!
+Billy Smith That and seeing Deanna Troi drunk off her ass on tequila.
+NorthForkFisherman A very memorable second best scene, indeed
I still need to recreate this scene in the game Space Engineers
why did Cochrane decide to use this song in the first place?
Aaron Reyes Magic Carpet Ride? First Warp flight? Writes itself, doesn't it? I mean - if we ever DO create an FTL - this GODDAMM WELL BETTER BE PLAYING ON SPEAKERS TURNED UP TO 11!
Billy Smith exactly
If we ever achieve warp speed. Somebody better goddamn play this song 👊
Do a mind - meld 1st to remind them.
When I bought my first truck back in November of 2020, I remember driving off the lot and this was the first song I blasted on the speakers. Good times.
After the passage of many years this is STILL one of the best-ever motion picture scenes. And the music made the difference. Brilliant work!
"is that classical music?" i beleive so".
I suddenly miss the nineties very badly. The Vulcans aren't going to be dropping by here anytime soon.
MsLogjam We still have time till 2063 rolls around
DerpySquid 1 just prepare for the 3rd great war that comes 20 years prior....
According to some ufologist they already have.
The only aliens that have ever been to the U.S. are the ones who live here and they're are called Democrats
Things look more promising now.
clearly the best scene of any Star Trek series.
this and the Beastie Boys in Star Trek Beyond. that one had me laughing all the way through. Sulu jammin out while riding the wave of the swarm ships blowing up lol
One of the best and most positive of all movie scenes.
I love when the song says I LOOK AROUND. And Z Chocrin sees the enterprise
Zephram had visions of $ signs as his original motivation, but I'm reasonably certain that he changed his tune.
That LOOK on his face at that moment of seeing the Enterprise. Priceless.
I saw this in the theater back in the day. Best scene ever - especially when they were in space & the nacelles popped out, ppl in the theater were actually laughing. Such a great scene :)
Never a more perfect song for the First Contact flight! Yeah, I cried, too!
I always believed if you're going to put a song in Star Trek it better be classic rock. Well done sir!
Sabotage in Beyond was a top notch choice for that scene.
@@raitchison They're both *classics !*
VERY well put together! 👍
Classic Rock and Star Trek, the perfect symbiotic relationship! Roy Orbison's "Ooby Dooby" and Stephen Wolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" were great selections for First Contact.
I wish Will and Geordi had a road trip episode. That would have been awesome!
They stop and Will does that fancy chair maneuver an Georgie la Forgie says "Willl,I don't think they are ready for that yet".
I loved this scene in the movie, really added some levity and made a great scene even better.
Every time I hear this song. I think of this scene... 😁🖖
In the early 70s, I used to rock out with Steppenwolf. That video and Magic Carpet Ride were made for each other😎
well done. even 9yrs later it still looks good.
Omg! This is AMAZING! Love how you extended the song/ footage from the original movie. My dad loved this scene in the film so much he “rewound” it and watched it 3 times, laughing the whole time. Thanks for publishing this. ❤️🙏
One of the very best movie scene! And one of my favorite songs ever! Now i'm happy in this moment.
This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship among two species, with a few rocky points 😂
0:38 capsule looks familiar. Everybody has their favorite TNG movie moment, this is mine. And the look on Riker's face? Priceless.
Best Next Generation movie. How the hell did they mess up all the movies after this..
riker shaved his beard
*Stage whisper* Jar Jar Abraham's.
They went with other directors instead of Jonathan Frakes.
Bad Writing.
Well, If I was a Vulcan. My answer would be, Where there’s a human. There’s a way.🤪
Such a classic scene! I like others felt pure goosebumps when I saw it. Really adds so much depth to the whole Star Trek franchise. I truly hope like others have said, that they recall this scene and blast the hell out of this song as they achieve “warp drive”.
This was way better than the original movie version. Like, all around. Not just the track.
When once I kick the bucket - this should be shown at my funeral
Happy First Contact Day!
Zephram Cochrane was a flower child at heart😍
Hands down, the best edit of this song and movie!! Thank you!
Best scene in the movie!
Happy First Contact Day! Live long and prosper!
Thank you for making this. I especially like your "with faith in humanity" at the end. An exceptional part of a surprisingly exceptional film.
If you happen to like the Picard series, you should look up Data flying the Enterprise through to a Borg core with this song -- a fan made version of course.
3 Borg disliked this
Those darn Swedes. tsk tsk ;)
They assimilated 3 others since you left the comment.
Alex Cooper, To date 17 more have been assimilated by the Borg. Residence is not futile.
All I can say is that if they make my likeness their own, then they're pretty well finished as a species...
@@MissMarinaCapri 19 damn where's the Enterprise ?!
Thank you for breakfast with John Kay! That was worth waking up for!
Steppenwolf (and Procol Harum and Iron Butterfly) are the bands of my personal soundtrack.
I hope the Martian Mission will take off with Steppenwolf outloud in their headphones lol
Apollo 7 or 8 should have used it back in '68.
It's so much better without Riker being the buzzkill.
Someone edited this clip (which now seems to have disappeared from UA-cam)) where Riker tells him that's enough only for Cochrane to press the audio device again and the volume of Magic Carpet Ride keeps getting pumped to spite him and then Riker and Geordie smile at each other as if "Lol this guy!"
Arthur Link my exact words.
@@johnmcternan4157 Yeah this version rocks.
The Canadian Connection in ST: FC ----- Zephram Cochrane ---> Tom Cochrane (Canadian musician), listening to Magic Carpet Ride (by Steppenwolf, a Canadian band).
Okay, it's a reach, but kinda cool.
William Shatner Captain James T. Kirk James Jimmy Doohan Captain Montgomery Scott-Scotty.
John Colicos Commander Kor The Original Klingon Da'Har Master. Are / were From Canada.
after watching that I'm imagining that instead of the traditional split V vulcan salute, after hearing Cochrane's music the vulcan emerges and does the rock 'horns' salute. ;)
Dude...this was clearly dubbed, but still a great song & this scene kicked ass
Great music video assimilation. The way I imagined it.
I always wondered why Enterprise didn’t create the warp signature for volcans to detect. Prime directive intent is not to change future’s direction at any cost especially keeping earth from becoming Borg which is not in violation pending on however we notify the Vulcans….
It wasnt warp flight that made Vulcan call us up, it was fucking Steppenwolf baby
And I bet you can hear it blasting in every Starfleet dorm and every Vulcan Sci Institute dorm every first contact day. :)
BEST movie clip ever!!
Thank you for this!
And (have to say) I
Hannah Giambrone ..best song ever.
One of the greatest scenes ever! The mash up is awesome as well.
I love this song anyway, but when they used it in this scene!!!! Heck Yes!!!! This is the song I hear when I do my Happy Dance!!!! :D
Perfect song for this launch. Major Tom would have also been great or Klaatu's Calling all Occupants of Interplanetary Craft which was later recorded by the Carpenters.
"Magic Bus" would have worked.
Funny but I never thought of them as astronauts till this scene but that's really what they are.
NASA is to Starfleet what the pioneers were to the West Coast transplants of the present. And a note to the New Yorkers who move to California: please don't bring your toaster, DVD player, etc. You can get new ones out here very easily and they won't have built-in cockroach nests.
mlee2001 You forget what the word "astro-naut" really is.
the suffix "naut" is a greek word. for all intents and purposes, naut is used to define an explorer. a pioneer. a frontiersman. and still very much means that today. an "aqua-naut" is an explorer of the seas, oceans, and other bodiesof water. a "Geo-naut" could be used for someone exploring the depths of a planet. A "helio-naut"might one day be used for someone who dives into a star (assuming we ever develop technology for that) to study how it works on the inside.
An explorer of stars (directly)
And, of course, the more commonly used "astro-naut" meaning one who explores Outer Space.
I believe the most famous ancient example comes from "Jason and the Argonauts". The Argonauts were explorers berthed out of the ancient city of Argos. They explored the Meditteranean.
Im sure other cities had such explorers too.
The "Athenauts" perhaps.
but yeah. by definition, Starfleet is an organization of Astronauts. perfectly legitimate word for them.
Thia happen DURING third world war...i doubt there were much official astronaught protocols or nasa even at this point in star trek time
Yes they are astronauts on some kind of Star Trek!
Good job; very good job. Reminds me of when I tried concocting videos 40 years ago on my old VCR (which in the '80s was the master-nuts in home-video studio tech).
F.T.L. is just rock and roll. ❤️ editing 👌nice one 👍"Engage!" Nasa nowhere to be seen just as I expected
This is SO AWESOME !!!!
Best ending to a movie ever. "SWEET JEEEEEEESUS!"
I still love Cockranes face when he turns around and see's the Enterprise. XD
Always makes me smile
Thank you for this....I've been real depressed all day, and this helped. A bit. Thanks.
Yes, Just Yes
& they say Star Trek doesn't have any pop - culture references in it.
I heard this on lower decks and I was In tears 🥲🥲🥲🥲
I popped so loud for it, perfect touch for that whole scene. Beckett, Boimler and Rutherford would have made riker proud that day 😂
Makes me smile every time!
Perfect editing! Thank you for making this for us!
This is by far the best version of this rocket ship launch scene. And for me it is the best version of any scene in Any of the Star Trek movies, and that's saying something. This is just my opinion but I think you should put more rock songs to lots of the Star Trek TV show and movie special scenes. Starting with the paradise syndrome TV show episode, one of my favorites. Even if you don't ever get around to doing that suggestion I thank you for this great video, that I watch a lot. Thank you!
One of the greatest songs of the 20th century!!!!
Happy First Contact Day everyone!
beautifully done, good job!
😂😂😂 that first bit is ace! 🙌☮️
You never saw any of the TNG crew enjoying any hard rock in the 24th Century. They’re always playing classical music or showtunes.
It’s like when they found that Ramones disk in Space Above and Beyond.
That was so well done. Thank you. Gotta watch that movie sometime.
"We can't lift off without it"!
"Magic Carpet Ride..."
"Let's Rock n Roll..."
"Born To Be Wild" would have been better.
"Get your motor running, head out on the highway."
"I like smoke and lightning, heavy metal thunder."
That would have been cool too!
No, just no. It is THE anthem for another movie and era of film making.
Keep the memory alive 💫✨👍✨
And now we know that there was a bit of a recycled 1960s rock and roller in Zefan Cockran , my favorite Stephanwolf was get your motor running
I still remember the feeling I got the first time I saw those warp nacelles.
Top 10 star trek scenes of all time...
This was so awesome in the theatre!!
that was one of the theme songs of my generation. loved it here. well done! new sub.
A Big canadian band ! Great John Kay...
That put a smile on my skull.🚀
Great scene, possibilities
Unbelievably delightful
I remember that song is form video game called NASCAR Thunder 2003 on Nintendo GameCube and I like the song.
Well done and thanks for sharing.
Hey! The sovereign is a beautiful ship! Not some “lousy can”!
Ok, so how did they land? Did they leave the warp drive in orbit and land in a capsule? Great music.
And how did they save the ship so that it could be in the museum that Picard mentions in the movie?
I will do everything in my power to help mankind (And Nature) to colonize and explore space.
Just thinking about what kind of wonders (and horrors) we will find in deep space.
Best to establish ourselves as early as possible in space, so any horrors will be up against the starship fleets we make in the future. 😎🖖
Well said @@DrumToTheBassWoop
My dad was Zephram Cochran. It was hilarious!
If I got to fly on Jeff's or Richard 's spaceships,I want this song playing at launch
Best ever
Nice! Just really, really nice!
That is one of my favorite TNG moments
Nice finish.
I like the way the music starts before he even presses play Lol
This is the perfect clip
Love it!
Did anyone else notice 1:21 "i looked around..."
Feeber Izer the Enterprise E is a “lousy can” it seems
Apparently Counselor Troi has differing tastes in music though!!😋
