Incredible this only ran for one season. Sure it was a poor mans Star Wars but for a TV series it was amazing. The SFX were a tad tardy, look at Space 1999 for stuff that was way ahead of it's time for 1970's TV SFX
Actually it ran for two seasons - Galactica 1980 was the second season! And the SFX in Battlestar Galactica was way ahead of anything else on TV at the time! It was basically movie level which is why the show was so expensive to make! You forget that Star Wars was a Quantum Leap forward in Movie SFX! Logan's Run came out just a year before Star Wars and the SFX in Battlestar Galactica is at least as good as that in Logan's Run, which was a Blockbuster MOVIE! How many Sci-Fi TV Shows TODAY have Special Effects equivalent to Movies made 2-3 years ago!?!
@@franohmsford7548 I like the Cylons in the original much better than the Cylons in the new one. The new BSG doesn't have effects as good as recent movies, as you say. Real people in costumes with those voices and the red light.
@@ferchorps2224 It was the case for "less is more". I never really cared for the X-Wing design (I liked the A-Wing more... simple, elegant). The Vipers had a nice, classic feel to them, but still looked different from any modern fixed-wing aircraft. They looked like they were meant to fly in space. I loved the fact that they kept that design for the remake, but gave the Cylon raiders an update. I loved the original design, by the rebooted raiders had a much more menacing look to them.
HA! I was just saying that my favourite American shows from back then was Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew, Battlestar Galactica, and Buck Rodgers in the 25th century!
only the 1st season of Buck Rogers. I did not care for the second season with the searcher. I also liked the replacement Nancy Drew after Pam Martin left. The actress also played Lieutenant Brie on Battelstar.
Prefer this ,the original show than the more recent one. Simpler, less complex, less dark, funnier even more epic. And the opening theme of course is a classic. Wonderful! Thank you! ☺️💜
They gotta bring back the Original Battlestar Galactica. Bringing that back is bringing back a Classic Legend that only graced our TV Screens and lives for a short time. the Special effcts should be a combination of the original technique of creating Special Effects combined with today's CGI. The Original Special effects of the Original Series still fo the most part hold up to today's Visual Standards. Watching the original SPX was like watching Star Wars on TV. A Total Classic. .
Supposedly a new show is proposed for the 2021 season. Maybe an alternate dimension crossover the the original show would be nice. Like what star trek does
I hope they never bring back Battlestar Galactica. I'd hate to see what a Woke, Politically Correct Version of Battlestar Galactica would look like today.
One of my favorite shows when I was growing up. My elementary school art teacher made a cardboard model of the Galactica ship it was like 4 feet long and hung it from the ceiling, it was the coolest thing.
It is my favorite show of all time. My brother and I would wait breathlessly for the next episode. To this day, I get shivers down my spine in excitement, when I hear the theme song.
Young lad when this arrived on our tv. never turned back always watched and to this day I still watch. loved my youth. Fantastic shows like this that will live forever. :)
Loved the series back in the 70’s and loved visiting Universal Studios Hollywood & riding the Tram as it went into a LAZER shoot out scene straight out of the show!!!!
Aaaah, man! This vid/theme song is a WELCOME SIGHT for sore eyes for a TV -watching vet like myself. After watching that 2004 soap opera-infested , dull and drabby, over-melodramatic BSG, I'll take the 1978 Classic and this impeccable John Williams score of a theme song to boot ANY F&%#@ DAY!!! Thanks so much for posting, my friend :-)

Hahahaa.. you made my day! Me and my brother watched it as kids and I miss those times,tv shows like this sooo much. We are aged now....but our hearts are still there.....
Here in 2020. I have always loved this theme. It is epic & grandiose. It is equal to the main theme of Star Wars. I miss the younger days of watching this series. I remember it well, we watched it mainly on TV in our basement in the house we used to live in in the late 1970's. Time flies. I also liked the 2000's reimagined BSG.
I was in Dallas in a convention back in 1990 and they played this theme with fireworks all over the place in several screens and made it look spectacular, it was! Impressed us all and the inspiration was Great!
This was my childhood too, along with Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and of course, Star Wars and The Black Hole. I want the 1970's back so badly.....
I agree completely and find the original BSG theme so inspirational and full of hope. We're all in this together, especially with the coronavirus pandemic going on.

Bro what are you doing . But in all seriousness I understand why you might not want to watch it but the 2000 bsg series is by far one of the best sci-fi shows EVER MADE . I know the comment is like 3 years old but if you have not watched it I’ll recommend you to give it a try
I never considered it a reboot. Just some other timeline sci-fi show. It was enjoyable at the time, but it wasn’t BSG. I have never rewatched it. The original? Many times. ❤❤❤
There is one thing the reboot got right: it's dark. The story has to be dark. We're talking about the annihilation of human civilization down to just 50,000 people left running for their lives. The original show has a hard time gaining new fans because it's too upbeat for the setting and stretches believability past the breaking point. The reboot is still massively acclaimed across the board, even if the ending (which I hated) was controversial.
Oh the memories. I used to watch the series as a kid. Didn't knew about star wars or even star trek. Galactica was my first real experience with the scifi genre and I loved it. 🤗
There are those who believe...that life here began out there, far across the Universe...with tribes of humans...who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians...or the Toltecs...or the Mayans. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man...who even now fight to survive-somewhere beyond the heavens!
I had a crush on Captain Apollo. Boy, did that HURT when he was killed by Count Iblis in the episode "War of the Gods". Hurt even more when Sheba & Starbuck were aboard the Ship of Lights, and Apollo's body was resting on that altar. All their uniforms, boots, even sidearms, were white!
@@lindaoneil5085 Loved Captain Apollo's character. He was passionate yet had a dignity about him. Kinda like his father Commander Adama. RIP Lorne Greene and Richard Hatch. 😥
I was 11 and half in 1978 when Battlestar Galactica came out. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century in 1979 was ok. But yet it sucks that Athena, captain Apollo, Jolly, lieutenant Starbuck, and Sheba wasn't around in Galactica 1980 when they finally reached earth.

We never had any of the kick ass toys here in south east Asia except for Star Wars which was expensive for a kid with hardly any pocket money! My mom was nice enough to at least but my brother and me an action figure.
Without sappy dramas needed for a successful modern TV series, Battlestar Galactica would be worthy of an adventure. And its classic aesthetics and its direct plot would be true fun for the whole family.
When Dirk Benedict joined the A-Team as Face, there was a reference to Battlestar Galactica in the intro when he passes a Cylon in an amusement park. That allways made me laugh.

@@victorlombardi1149oh come on ! BSG reboot was awesome as well ! They are both excellent.
@@chris.hinsley IMNHO (InMyNeverHumbleOpinion) The reboot was pure SH.T !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a Real Man dominant Male, I dominate and seduce women.
No REAL MEN in the reboot (as almost in all new cinema and television productions) but instead obnoxious women in absurd ridiculous improbable leading role, seducing "men" ........
It was so decadent, squalid, desperate, bleak, disheartening, depressing, miserable, with pathetic male characters.
It was cancelled because it was so expensive. Not because of ratings. It was popular.
1 million an episode was too much for the network to recover. How the times have changed.
@@franohmsford7548 I like the Cylons in the original much better than the Cylons in the new one. The new BSG doesn't have effects as good as recent movies, as you say.
Real people in costumes with those voices and the red light.
@@DaveMiller2 So true, and the original serious was just much more fun than the new one.
Man, the original Viper and Raider are some of the coolest sci fi ships ever designed!
Yes. The Colony or Colonial Viper. I prefer Viper than X-Wing. It is faster, specially when use the "turbo" button: "swooooooooosssshhhhhh"
Loved the original viper, but looooove the newer cylon raider look
And Galactica itself.
Colonial Viper and the Thunderfighter from the Buck Rogers TV show were two of the best designs in my opinion
Best TV theme EVER!! I owned the vinyl, would crank it on the stereo and let the music wash over me.
A True Classic with so many Great Actors and Actresses plus One of the Greatest Theme songs of All Time!!
The huge and detailed space battleships I watched in childhood and this music will be forever memorable, with the romance of space and future.
Don't make em like this anymore ☹️ but I was around when they did 🤗
Same here. I loved those old sci fi's. Yeah they might seem cheap and cheesy now, but then, they were state of the art.
Me too.
HA! I was just saying that my favourite American shows from back then was Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew, Battlestar Galactica, and Buck Rodgers in the 25th century!
We watched this show every Sunday night when It was a new show , 1978.
@@johnbockelie3899 yup I remember that to. Sunday nights on WLS T.V. Chicagos own Channel 7.
only the 1st season of Buck Rogers. I did not care for the second season with the searcher. I also liked the replacement Nancy Drew after Pam Martin left. The actress also played Lieutenant Brie on Battelstar.
Still get the shivers from that music.. Its so awesome... And a great series 👍🏻
Prefer this ,the original show than the more recent one. Simpler, less complex, less dark, funnier even more epic. And the opening theme of course is a classic. Wonderful! Thank you! ☺️💜
Brings me right back to the eighties.. What a great serie that was..
Like what star trek does
That's exactly where it went wrong. The effects budget went so runaway funding the show was threatening to bankrupt the studio.
Bought the dvd collection
I hope they never bring back Battlestar Galactica. I'd hate to see what a Woke, Politically Correct Version of Battlestar Galactica would look like today.
@@darkwolf-22 Kind of already got it with the edgy reboot. Just imagine more of that but maxed out to the extreme.
One of my favorite shows when I was growing up. My elementary school art teacher made a cardboard model of the Galactica ship it was like 4 feet long and hung it from the ceiling, it was the coolest thing.
Teachers don't do that now a days
That is so awesome!
a real space show that can never be denied, a star wars, cousin to be remembered for ever!
Thanks so much for posting, my friend :-)
i remember watching every episode, one night we were at my aunt's and we had to leave early...
i threw a tantrum sooo bad that my parents decided to stay, and i could finish watching my episode..
not my best moment but hey, it was battlestar...
I would have done the same thing as an adult!!😅😅👍👍
One night someone turned up at our house and tv got turned off. Missed the episode. Saw it on video 20 years later!
Hahahaa.. you made my day! Me and my brother watched it as kids and I miss those times,tv shows like this sooo much. We are aged now....but our hearts are still there.....
My brother and I had to fight my mom for the TV on Fridays. Galactica vs Dallas.
@@musclesmouse Who won?
Here in 2020. I have always loved this theme. It is epic & grandiose. It is equal to the main theme of Star Wars. I miss the younger days of watching this series. I remember it well, we watched it mainly on TV in our basement in the house we used to live in in the late 1970's. Time flies. I also liked the 2000's reimagined BSG.
I was in Dallas in a convention back in 1990 and they played this theme with fireworks all over the place in several screens and made it look spectacular, it was! Impressed us all and the inspiration was Great!
one of the best si-fis ever made
pffff, that show only lasted one season because it SUCKED. nobody watches it

This was my childhood too, along with Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and of course, Star Wars and The Black Hole. I want the 1970's back so badly.....
Yeah that was the only good part of Sunday night.
@@soundtreks Yes, indeed! The next day at school, my friend & I would discuss the episode in great detail!
Galactica was the first movie I watched with Dolby Surround Sound in a Berlin cinema. I will never forget this experience! Still love the movie.
So much nostalgy this series. Its one of my first remember tv-series and i remember i love that series.
I was 10yrs old when this came out. It was must see TV. I still enjoy watching it today. 😊
possibly the best theme music ever!
I agree completely and find the original BSG theme so inspirational and full of hope. We're all in this together, especially with the coronavirus pandemic going on.
Could even be a wedding march.
BEST SCI-FI EVER WHEN I WAS A KID
I second that. I was a kid the same age as Noah Hathaway was at the time. He was Boxey.
i liked it a lot but sorry best sci fi on tv was animation Starblazers !
@@johntracy72 Damn, he is not a cute little kid anymore. I am 49 and slightly younger than him I checked his age on IMDB. How cool would THIS be: If ANOTHER remake is done maybe Noah could be ADAMA.
I agree I couldn't wait to come home from school and watch this in the 80s!!
@@ReedHarrison Maybe I am a little older than you? My mother took my brother and me to see the MOVIE in 1978. I was so young (5) that I don't even remember what theater it was.
i havent seen this show in ages and i refused to watch the reboot because they changed so much. but this theme song every time i hear it i instantly recognize it. It is one of my all time favorite science fiction theme songs ever.
I had this exact same feeling before watching the 2003 version. Give it a chance, and I say it as a huge BSG 78 fan.
The underlying premise for the show was fantastic. I was so glad when they brought it back and really worked with that.
Oh the memories. I used to watch the series as a kid. Didn't knew about star wars or even star trek. Galactica was my first real experience with the scifi genre and I loved it. 🤗
Great series and music !
Didn't miss this show as a kid!! Loved it!!!!
There are those who believe...that life here began out there, far across the Universe...with tribes of humans...who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians...or the Toltecs...or the Mayans.

I miss my battlestar. How I loved Richard Hatch & Dirk Benedict
At least richard hatch made some appearances in the new show, even though it wasn't his original character
Really nice score. Well done. Very original and special. Really does the job of humanity in space.
Gives me goosebumbs every time
Reminds of a great childhood
These days are long gone
I was 11 and half in 1978 when Battlestar Galactica came out. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century in 1979 was ok. But yet it sucks that Athena, captain Apollo, Jolly, lieutenant Starbuck, and Sheba wasn't around in Galactica 1980 when they finally reached earth.
Yeah well born in 76 so not far off from u.
1980 sucked. It was crap
Neither Count Iblis :)
Theme music in the 70-80's had real talent.
Babalon 5 had the best score and it changed for every episode.

Ahh… yes, the good old days of television. And that’s a very captivating version of the beginning of a fine show.
Proudly born in 74’. This video is a great souvenir and reminder of how epic life was growing up in those days! The excitement whenever the show started and the theme song came on was just the best! We never had any of the kick ass toys here in south east Asia except for Star Wars which was expensive for a kid with hardly any pocket money! My mom was nice enough to at least but my brother and me an action figure.
one of the best series of the 1970, thanks
Without sappy dramas needed for a successful modern TV series, Battlestar Galactica would be worthy of an adventure.
And its classic aesthetics and its direct plot would be true fun for the whole family.
Anybody have any Cubits? I do.
Thank You Stu Phillips!
Thanks for the memories.
The very first TV show I remember watching as a kid 🥰🥰🥰

I couldn't agree more.
When Dirk Benedict joined the A-Team as Face, there was a reference to Battlestar Galactica in the intro when he passes a Cylon in an amusement park. That allways made me laugh.

The one thing I liked about the series was the fact humanity was fighting another race's creation which had destroyed them.
The unity of humanity against a common foe.
Battlestar Galactica was like the Exodus set in Outer Space. It was Modern Day Mythology.
