I can't believe this video has 1.2 million views. This was made by my father, Brian, who unfortunately passed away in 2018. It was a product for it's time, which had the graininess of free-to-use video software and SD-quality clips collected over the years.
And admittedly is is a bit biased towards American aviation, but I hope it can forgiven since he was in a USN SAR aircrew, so he always had a soft spot for the topic.
If I could learn newer video creation techniques, I'd make atleast an HD version of this, and possibly add soms USSR clips of Yuri Gagarin's flight and newer advances in space flight. But I'm really happy that so many people appreciated this.

The faith thingy ain't logical, something you can feel it but can't explain to others. Its a sci-fi series, its supossed to achieve stuff by doing and not just believing. To be honest, it does sound quite 'prophetic', its beatiful song, shame it was taken the wrong way. Also, this song will 100% irritate any Vulcan, wasn't that the point?

This song has got no business being anywhere near a Star Trek series, especially “Enterprise”, which was one of the best, and I’ve spoken to loads of Trekkies online who refuse to watch it based solely on that song. I mean, it mentions the word “faith” at least 3 times! *In a Science Fiction series???*
Who do they think are watching these programs? It’s certainly not a bunch of Evangelicals!
And the worst of it was, they couldn’t even have used the Rod Stewart original…they had to use a cheap knock-off from Russell bloody Watson! I couldn’t stand that guy back then, and seeing his name come up in the title sequence was almost enough to stop me watching it!
Thankfully my remote control had a mute button!

@@terrypussypower Gotta tell you, first time i watched the pilot episode i found the song... unfit for the series, but kinda grew on me, every episode forward i heard the song and all of a sudden there was a smile on my face.
"Faith of the heart, faith of the mind, faith of the soul", it never says faith for a GOD or anything like it. The song speaks about hope and faith in our dreams, our goals and our strength to go forth and achieve them, not in putting empty emotionless faith in a GOD to do it.
So, as a long time Star Trek fan and hardcore atheist, i aprove this awesome song 🖖🏻💫🎶

In 2017 I awoke in ICU after 8 days in and out conscious being told I almost died from a massive cerebellar stroke. A myrical I survived. In the early stages of recovery - I learned how to do everything as if a baby would. From walking to talking. Literally starting over at age 53. A wonderful nurse would visit and play this song for me. It is now my favorite and most inspirational song every time I feel like giving up on what's normal for most people.

Speaking as a massive, livelong Star Trek fan, at first I was confused as to why it wasn't more like the more traditional star trek tunes of TNG, DS9 or Voyager, having watched every single episode of all three. But when I watched this series I understood... this was the beginning of our journey away from our home solar system, it was before the Federation, space was a bigger and more dangerous place than it was for Picard, or even for Kirk. But the song was filled with the same optimism I saw from the crew, a crew more similar to comtemporary humans than those on any of the classic trek series. The I understood why the theme song was different, it was describing the tone of that era, that piece of trek history. I feel nostalgic when I hear the classic trek tunes, but this one... once I got it, it moved me to tears. The visuals with it, the space missions of yesterday and today, the progression of technology and space travel, it shows how far we have come and how far we have to go. For all I know (and I'm 36 and writing this), my great great great grandchildren may some day travel the stars, and see what is out there. I will be an old woman when we can seriously think about even colonizing mars let alone explore our part of the galaxy, so it will come too late for me, but I love to think that future generations can do what we currently lack the technology to do. Each time I look up at the night sky and see the stars, I wonder who is out there, if their planets are even remotely like ours, what the aliens look like, what is their culture like, would they like to visit sometime once we're advanced and interesting enough to be worth their time, can they eat the same types of food as we eat or is their diet totally different. So many questions, but I hope our future with aliens is similar to how it's portrayed in star trek, not necessarily Earth being the center of a massive empire, but just having friendly relations with our neighbors and understanding and tolerance of each others cultures and differences. You know, it's things like this that make things like racism so stupid, for all we know, this could be the very reason aliens HAVEN'T made themselves known already.

I came here to see if everybody else hates this song as much as I do. Your post made me listen to the song again. I still don't like it, it's way too Bon Jovi for me, but I feel more respect for it. Maybe one day I'll enjoy it. Star Trek Enterprise is the only ST serie where I fast forward thru the intro, maybe I should stop doing that.

    • @MistressKasumi
      @MistressKasumi 3 роки тому +31

Your comment resonates with me. When I first heard this intro years ago, I will admit I hated it. I couldn't understand why this particular song was picked for the series at the time. It didn't sound anything like the Star Trek opening songs. It didn't have that usual feel. However, after a lil while of tucking into the show and briefly forgetting about the other shows treating this one as the start my mindset changed. This opening is supposed to be different. Thats the point.
This song, the feeling woven into it and the words tell how man started on their path to the stars from their humble naval sailing ships which led to the first Enterprize out on the sea then with further technical advancement soon the sky was ours with air travel. We then further mastered our nautical expertise with submarines and aircraft carriers. Our next rung in the ladder was space travel. It was a long road and many remember when the Space program seemed to stall. We even took some losses along the way but now look at where we are with the commercial sector helping it grow.
Past, present and future. This song . . . it covers it all.
And yes, I too can't help but shed a tear when I think of just how far mankind has come despite the struggles, the setbacks, the difficulties, the pain and more. We continue on. We keep going. We keep moving forward. We let nothing get in our way.
This song has become my life mantra.
I think for many of us, we just never gave this song a chance or really listened to what it was trying to say to us.
Coming from one lifelong Star Trek female fan who grew up on the original series thanks to my veteran dad. Now, I embrace them all. I will admit I am trying my hardest with the latest modern ones, Discovery and Picard.
They lost their way somewhere along the line with these.
But I don't want them to ever give up trying.
Star Trek has been around for so long already. Speaking for myself and for others, I hope that it continues to be around and it finds its way into the hearts of the next generation like it did mine as an eager and wide eyed lil seven year old girl, more then 22 years ago.

hats off to every explorer and adventurer who has died whilst advancing the boundaries of human knowledge. so much of what we have today is built on the efforts of those from the past who stood to earn almost nothing from simply going. the risks taken by past human beings have given us the world we have today. the risks we take today give future generations their future. we landed on a comet? you think this is nothing? think if nobody in the 60's wanted to go to the moon.. where would we be? we cannot afford to live our lives only for ourselves. we HAVE to think of future generations.

I know some people have an issue with this intro music because of the lyric ‘I have faith’ when clearly Star Trek is about scientific discovery, but in this case it seems to me as if the faith of the singer is in themselves. It’s about confidence and self assuredness that anything is possible and you can achieve your dreams. That a species that once lived in caves and used spears could someday travel beyond the stars

It´s been a long time, but my time is finally near.
And I can feel the change in the wind right now. Nothing´s in my way.
And they´re not gonna hold me down no more, no they´re not gonna hold me down.
Cause I´ve got faith of the heart.
I´m going where my heart will take me.
I´ve got faith to believe. I can do anything.
I´ve got strength of the soul. And no one´s gonna bend or break me.
I can reach any star. I´ve got faith, I´ve got faith, faith of the heart.
It´s been a long night. Trying to find my way.
Been through the darkness. Now I finally have my day.
And I will see my dream come alive at last. I will touch the sky.
And they´re not gonna hold me down no more, no they´re not gonna change my mind.
Cause I´ve got faith of the heart.
I´m going where my heart will take me.
I´ve got faith to believe. I can do anything.
I´ve got strength of the soul. And no one´s gonna bend or break me.
I can reach any star. I´ve got faith, faith of the heart.
I´ve known the wind so cold, and seen the darkest days.
But now the winds I feel, are only winds of change.
I´ve been through the fire and I´ve been through the rain.
    But I´ll be fine.
Cause I´ve got faith of the heart.
I´m going where my heart will take me.
I´ve got faith to believe. I can do anything.
I´ve got strength of the soul. And no one´s gonna bend or break me.
I can reach any star. I´ve got faith.
I´ve got faith of the heart.
I´m going where my heart will take me.
I´ve got strength of the soul. And no one´s gonna bend or break me.

On November, 2017 I almost died from a massive ischemic stroke. As I began the long road to recovery into my new normal, a nurse/therapist would visit and play this song for me every day. It got me through those early days of learning to walk, read, talk, and write again. Now it's my favorite source of inspiration when I'm down and in doubt. Even today, I'm doing things people were saying I'd never do again.
This song is about not giving up. It's about daring to dream the impossible and accomplishing exactly that which we do not think is possible. Look beyond the horizon and go there. Live long and prosper.

I was going to post on this particular song and as I scrolled down, I read your thread and our cases are eerily similar. My stroke was also ischemic and happened 2 days before Xmas 2017. I heard this song when I would watch Enterprise in the hospital and later when I couldn't sleep at night when I was home. There are many lines from the song from which I still draw inspiration to this day. I figure I am looking at 7 year recovery and I work on it 6 days a week often for hours. I have the reading, talking, and writing back to normal. I am back driving and I have worked a little, although the limits are COVID related not stroke related. I am also doing things people were saying I'd never do like walking without a cane, which I started doing in April. I wo.uld love to hear an update on your recovery. Mine is really taking off in Year 5!
It's been a long road, getting there to here. (i always add NO DOUBT)

I never completely understood why some so-called Star Trek fans disliked this song, but I believe their dislike for it is mostly based on human emotion and their preference towards traditional orchestral music, and not really about what the song means. This is after all the most logical theme song for a Star Trek show because it completely captures man's quest for space; not letting anyone get in the way because he has faith in himself and his abilities. (Now read that again in Spock's or Tuvok's voice)

After watching them for several months, I was very surprised to find that that I found the Enterprise series to be far and away, the second best Star Trek series ever, just behind the original Star Trek series. And the only reason I put the original series first, is because it deserves a lot of credit for being the first and bringing the concept to live, and covering a lot of social topics that were controversial when it came out in the '60s . The reason I love the Enterprise series so much is because it never had "trivial" episodes, where the show was dominated by romance themes ( ex. Riker and Troi), it never had "silly" episodes like Voyager devolving into Tim Paris playing Flash Gordon in the holodeck), and it was far superior to Deep Space Nine . Enterprise was gritty, with morally complex themes ( ex. Archer having to blow up a listening post of unarmed aliens in order to keep their presence secret while trying to find and stop the doomsday weapon from blowing up Earth ), and it showed how difficult it was to be in space , pretty much on your own , without a fleet of starships to help you out. The way Star Trek fans dissed this show and , in my opinion, are very closed minded about it , is a shame. They're missing out on an excellent series

On currently watching Star Trek Enterprise on Horror Channel in the UK for the first time, (YES, in 2018, sorry!) I can honestly say it is my favourite Star Trek series, hands down. Not a bad episode in there up to Episode 20, Season 3. It is fantastic, and PHEW!, that heart-shuddering theme opening, awesome! Great acting and production values throughout from all involved. Epic stuff. Miss it, when it ends. Will have to chase up the DVDs from Series 1, to Series 5, fast.

This song with the whole background of aviation and space travel development extrapolated into the Star Trek time period fits so well. It forges a connection between our own space travel tech and that of Star Trek's. The song also makes me feel good and hopeful for the future.

Now I am going to do it again to get my psyched up to pass the LSAT test, go to law school and make something more out of my life!

I have to say about this song is that it's showing how humanity in the past, present and future of Star Trek has come along way to where it is now. And that's a perfect way to illustrate what people from the future can learn from their past.

Speaking as a die hard trekkie (please note, not trekker, but trekkie) I have watched every episode, movie, and cartoon relating to this series. The fundamentals and morals it teaches are something I long for in this world, especially with everything that is going on. This song could not have been a better choice for the show it was representing. And it has absolutely nothing to do with religion. Faith isn't strictly religion. Faith is the evidence of things that we do not see but we hope for. Things we believe in, despite all of society telling us "You're not ready." When Archer looked at the Admiral and told him that Humans were ready, he was showing that faith. He believed, with all his heart, that despite what the Vulcans said, humanity was ready for whatever the universe could throw at them. Awesome job with the video and filling out with the song. Sadly, it's done in 2009 and now 11 years out of date. How about an update to it to include our next step of faith? The Mars rocket that we just launched! #believeinthefuture

I know it is not universally liked, but i really loved it and I believe that it was getting beterr every season and that the romulan-eaeth war with thr creation of the federation would have been amazijg star trek and i am very sad that i never got to watch it.

It was a great show that sadly came to an end IMO prematurely. Like many, I questioned the theme tune when compared to the other Star Trek series out there. But I see the meaning now. It is inspirational as much as it shows the journey, so makes sense. I have told my children to listen to these words carefully and know that with enough dedication, hard work determination and focus, they can reach their own stars, regardless of what others may say or mock.

    ------ TRIVIA ------
The American astronaut shown in the opening credits of Star Trek: Enterprise is Alan Shepard, the first American astronaut in space, and later commander of Apollo 14. There is also archive footage of: Charles A. Lindbergh next to his plane Spirit of St. Louis, the NASA space shuttle Enterprise, Amelia Earhart next to her plane, the Wright brothers' flight combined with Robert H. Goddard, the father of modern rocketry, writing his theories on a blackboard, Chuck Yeager and the Bell X-1 with which he broke the sound barrier, and astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins as they board Apollo 11 to become the first men on the moon. The astronaut seen floating in space next to the shuttle with the jet pack is Bruce Mccandless, the first to test the jet pack, nicknamed the Buck Rogers space pack.
