The example with "ты любишь я?" is similar to "do you love I?", oblique case maps to somethings different than nominative, into accusative here Меня не позвали (меня не пригласили) - literally, [they] didn't invite me; I was not invited - я не был приглашён Меня там не будет - literally, there will be no me there; one can say, however, я не буду там [присутствовать] - I will not be there, although it's more common to hear that phrase without negation as a confirmation: я буду там (я там буду) - I will be there У меня есть [что-то] - literally, there is [something] on/with me; I have - literally, я имею, but it is being used less nowdays, usually in phrases like я имею шанс [на что-то] (I have a chance), я имею в виду (I mean)

It's awesome that you explain some of the concepts I struggled with while earning a Russian degree. Several visits to Russia and Ukraine helped me to begin to think in the language. Now, decades later I'm scrambling to get it all back so I can speak with my Ukrainian girlfriend. I would advise you to be careful with such videos. They are like kitchen recipes: being correct ad hoc, they create wrong picture in general. Just be careful, don't follow the recipes, try to get into the principles.
I can tell you're putting a lot of effort into these and making them watchable and funny. One thing in particular I really like about your style is that you explain the logic behind why the words are said, instead of just teaching the translation without context. Some things I've learned I've always wondered why they are that way. Keep it up! 👍🏻

These are VERY tricky verbs, so they are misused by the vast majority of Americans, so impress everyone by using them correctly. Hint: learn the difference between transitive and intransitive verbs. Examples: "I lay the book on the table" versus "I lie down for a nap." I enjoy your videos very much!

As russian, I have such a problem when speaking english. It feels wrong when you need to say "I", and "I am" for many times, especially in chats. Though in russian there are no needs in many 'Я's, because the verb says about first person.
and the verbs in past tense having gender and number but don't have a person (because in the past it was a special participle using with "быть" forms, like есмь, еси, есть, есмы, есте and суть)
same goes for another slavic languages, i'm from slovakia and я here sounds exactly as russian (ja), no need to use it everytime, sometimes it's needed but it depends on a context. the following verb is to let you know which person you're talking about

Sorry, but we never say “У меня хорошо/ плохо». Instead we might say “У меня ВСЁ хорошо/ плохо». Most commonly you’d hear “(Да) всё нормально», «Всё отлично», «Всё замечательно», of when things are not so good «Всё потихоньку/ по-старому, Всё так-себе», or very informally “Все супер/ пучком/ зашибись/ класс(но)/ ништяк», and when things are bad, informally, «Всё стрёмно/ отстойно, Хуже нету (не бывает), Полный пипец».
Well, I I've never used "ништяк" "всë по тихоньку" and things like this. On the other hand I usually say "у меня хорошо"(if it's good) "у меня не очень"(if it's bad). So don't speak for all Russians. I think it really depends from place to place and person to person

That's right. Much of the Russian grammar logic is easy to understand for German speakers. Especially noun declension for different cases and verb conjugation.

The "U menya est' " is oddly similar to how we Hungarians perceive the possessive. Van (nekem) egy almàm. Which is literally translated as "est' (menya) od'in jabluko. Fun fact: Hungarian and Russian are not related languages, but they may share certain "innovations" or perceiving things in the same way. If these innovations breach a certain treshold (by quantity) they would mark a sprachbund. To go further, although unrelated to Russian, I thought many times that certain innovations and shared properties of Finno-Ugric, Turkic, and Mongolic, with possible addition of Koreanic and Japanese languages lived so close together they developed shared features thus forming a sprachbund, hence the similarities between these languages. Maybe Hungarian adopted more slavicism then I initially thought. 👀👀👀 Great Channel, I will certainly check this channel more in the future!
actually, it's the other way round. russian adopted this grammatical structure from finnish, if I'm not mistaken, which then got carried onto ukrainian and belarusian. and knowing that finnish and hungarian are related, it's no wonder it sounds so similar

It's not that uncommon, I use it quite often. But the grammatical nature of this answer is not obvious. It feels like some words are ommitted: Я [чувствую себя] хорошо. I wouldn't suggest a foreigner to use it because this answer requires a very precise intonation to sound naturally.
For your information - I put a number of your phrases into Google and they came up with Я . . . but when I used Yandex they came up with мне . . . Is мне used for describing age because we are not in control even of our own age? Am I right in thinking that basically меня is used when "me" would be used in English? English would say "do you love me?" not "do you love I?"
It's a very confusing explanation about "being in control" and all that. The rule is just that when you talk about your emotional state or your physical condition you should use the pronoun in dative, "мне". Мне грустно, мне плохо, мне жарко и т.д. You use adverbs in such cases, not adjectives. Using "Я" you are making a chsaracteristic of yourself, not speaking about how you feel. You can say "я нормально", "я плохо", "я хорошо", these are kind of set expressions.
Guys, in any inconvenient situation, for "как дела" question, answer "потихонечку" (going slightly), universal answer, it makes person feel and fully understand transcendent and conceptually ununderstadable state of your mind
4:40 This is a very strange explanation and it's wrong. This has nothing to do with being in control of something. For example, мне интересно - something you can control, but you still cannot use it with я. The real reason is that words like жарко, удобно, интересно are adverbs, and in Russian you cannot use an adverb with a pronoun in nominative (я, мы, он, она, оно, они), but only in dative (мне, нам, ему, ей, ему, им), because the pronoun in this case is the object and not the subject (the subject is omitted). In nominative you can only use adjectives (жаркий, удобный, интересный).
Tbf, a beginner wouldn't understand those grammar rules and it's better to use that explanation (even if it's not correct). It's more accommodating for them.
But isn't it related to control? Subjects control, objects don't. Is мне интересно really about something I can control? That must be a separete kind of adverbs which don't really function like adverbs, otherwise they would be able to modify verbs. How can интересно or больно modify a verb? Мне жарко, мне удобно, мне интересно - it's hot to me, it's comfortable to me, it's interesting to me ("it" doesn't refer to any subject there, it maps to a null-subject in Russian); so in general those are equivalents of "it's ... to me", where "to me" is exactly "мне" and they definitely show passiveness.
@@yegor4372 I agree that it's not easy to understand for a beginner, especially if you don't have to deal with declensions in your native language, but the "control theory" is just misleading. It really has only something to do with the grammar and not with semantics. In fact, you can even take the adverbs from Fedor's example, convert them to adjectives and in this case, you have to use я instead of мне: я жаркий, я удобный (these examples may sound weird, but they are grammatically perfectly legit). The simplified explanation without going deep intro grammar could be: if a word describes your perception about something, it's an adverb, and you have to use мне (мне жарко, мне удобно, мне интересно). If a word describes other's perception about you, it's an adjective, so you have to use я (я жаркий, я удобный я интересный).

In MXN spanish you can drop the personal pronoun because ending conjugation of the verb gives away who is the personal pronoun, so you don't have to repeat yourself.. Russian also does this too. You can't do that in English
I think in Iberian Spanish, they have to say, te quiero a ti , me quieres a mi < you're repating yourself 3 times>

люблю тебя = you love(from I) = te quiero = тэ керо

As russian, I have such a problem when speaking english. It feels wrong when you need to say "I", and "I am" for many times, especially in chats.
Though in russian there are no needs in many 'Я's, because the verb says about first person.
Yeah, it's so weird to use "I" so much. I always have a temptation to skip "I", so my messages will look better :)
and the verbs in past tense having gender and number but don't have a person (because in the past it was a special participle using with "быть" forms, like есмь, еси, есть, есмы, есте and суть)

same goes for another slavic languages, i'm from slovakia and я here sounds exactly as russian (ja), no need to use it everytime, sometimes it's needed but it depends on a context. the following verb is to let you know which person you're talking about

Sorry, but we never say “У меня хорошо/ плохо». Instead we might say “У меня ВСЁ хорошо/ плохо». Most commonly you’d hear “(Да) всё нормально», «Всё отлично», «Всё замечательно», of when things are not so good «Всё потихоньку/ по-старому, Всё так-себе», or very informally “Все супер/ пучком/ зашибись/ класс(но)/ ништяк», and when things are bad, informally, «Всё стрёмно/ отстойно, Хуже нету (не бывает), Полный пипец».
Well, I I've never used "ништяк" "всë по тихоньку" and things like this. On the other hand I usually say "у меня хорошо"(if it's good) "у меня не очень"(if it's bad). So don't speak for all Russians. I think it really depends from place to place and person to person

Haha, for the second one it's the same in german. "Mir ist heiß/kalt" is the exact same thing you'd say in russian. Mir = мне, heiß = жарко, kalt = холодно 😁
That's right. Much of the Russian grammar logic is easy to understand for German speakers.
Especially noun declension for different cases and verb conjugation.
German and Russian have four cases in common. Nominative, Genitive, Dative, Accusative.
Now Russian has two more cases; Instrumental and prepositional

The "U menya est' " is oddly similar to how we Hungarians perceive the possessive.
Van (nekem) egy almàm. Which is literally translated as "est' (menya) od'in jabluko.
Fun fact: Hungarian and Russian are not related languages, but they may share certain "innovations" or perceiving things in the same way. If these innovations breach a certain treshold (by quantity) they would mark a sprachbund.
To go further, although unrelated to Russian, I thought many times that certain innovations and shared properties of Finno-Ugric, Turkic, and Mongolic, with possible addition of Koreanic and Japanese languages lived so close together they developed shared features thus forming a sprachbund, hence the similarities between these languages.
Maybe Hungarian adopted more slavicism then I initially thought. 👀👀👀

actually, it's the other way round. russian adopted this grammatical structure from finnish, if I'm not mistaken, which then got carried onto ukrainian and belarusian. and knowing that finnish and hungarian are related, it's no wonder it sounds so similar

I never saw someone that answered "я хорошо" on the question "как ты?" I normally say "хорошо" and the other answers
It's not that uncommon, I use it quite often. But the grammatical nature of this answer is not obvious. It feels like some words are ommitted: Я [чувствую себя] хорошо. I wouldn't suggest a foreigner to use it because this answer requires a very precise intonation to sound naturally.

Me can be мне or меня as well. Depends on cases or prepositions before them. In general you're right.

It's a very confusing explanation about "being in control" and all that. The rule is just that when you talk about your emotional state or your physical condition you should use the pronoun in dative, "мне". Мне грустно, мне плохо, мне жарко и т.д. You use adverbs in such cases, not adjectives. Using "Я" you are making a chsaracteristic of yourself, not speaking about how you feel. You can say "я нормально", "я плохо", "я хорошо", these are kind of set expressions.

Guys, in any inconvenient situation, for "как дела" question, answer "потихонечку" (going slightly), universal answer, it makes person feel and fully understand transcendent and conceptually ununderstadable state of your mind

4:40 This is a very strange explanation and it's wrong. This has nothing to do with being in control of something. For example, мне интересно - something you can control, but you still cannot use it with я. The real reason is that words like жарко, удобно, интересно are adverbs, and in Russian you cannot use an adverb with a pronoun in nominative (я, мы, он, она, оно, они), but only in dative (мне, нам, ему, ей, ему, им), because the pronoun in this case is the object and not the subject (the subject is omitted). In nominative you can only use adjectives (жаркий, удобный, интересный).
Tbf, a beginner wouldn't understand those grammar rules and it's better to use that explanation (even if it's not correct). It's more accommodating for them.
But isn't it related to control? Subjects control, objects don't.

That must be a separete kind of adverbs which don't really function like adverbs, otherwise they would be able to modify verbs. How can интересно or больно modify a verb?
Мне жарко, мне удобно, мне интересно - it's hot to me, it's comfortable to me, it's interesting to me ("it" doesn't refer to any subject there, it maps to a null-subject in Russian); so in general those are equivalents of "it's ... to me", where "to me" is exactly "мне" and they definitely show passiveness.
@@yegor4372 I agree that it's not easy to understand for a beginner, especially if you don't have to deal with declensions in your native language, but the "control theory" is just misleading. It really has only something to do with the grammar and not with semantics. In fact, you can even take the adverbs from Fedor's example, convert them to adjectives and in this case, you have to use я instead of мне: я жаркий, я удобный (these examples may sound weird, but they are grammatically perfectly legit). The simplified explanation without going deep intro grammar could be: if a word describes your perception about something, it's an adverb, and you have to use мне (мне жарко, мне удобно, мне интересно). If a word describes other's perception about you, it's an adjective, so you have to use я (я жаркий, я удобный я интересный).

Каждый урок иностранного языка учитывает что легчайший способ обучения в чуть более позднем возрасте это ассоциации. Именно поэтому, на их уроках и на твоих уроках иностранного языка, обучаются корректные с точки зрения грамматики и построения и логично обоснованные для иностранца формулировки. И да, они не всегда являются самые основные для носителей но оно структурно корректно
