How come is "есть" eat, and have something at the same time 🤨🤨🤨??

Быть is the infinitive for "to be". есть is the present tense, think of it as "exists".
есть also means to eat.
The meaning is based on the context of the sentence.
Think of these 2 sentences:
I read a book yesterday
I will read a book tomorrow.
Is the word "read" the same in both sentences?
I realize the pronunciation is different but you get my meaning hopefully
