    I bought two of the UQ with the attached blankets. Took my ten year old daughter out this weekend and it got down to 28 degrees Fahrenheit. No foam pad, slept in a mummy bag. We both stayed warm all night, absolutely kept us warm.

      28 is about -2 C. that is for sure a good rating, do you think it would still work if it got a few degrees colder? how low do you think you could go with the underquilt and the extra blanket attached under?

      @@THENEWWRANGLER I wouldn’t have taken it much lower with my daughter there. By myself I would have felt confident with my setup another 8-10 degrees lower.

    You only need a under quilt up to top of your shoulders to the back of your knees. Use an insulated seat pad or reflectix in the footboard of your top quilt to insulate the back of your calfs and heals.

      I have seen that method, but I always ask myself "why would I do that and carry another piece of gear when I can just get a full underquilt?" and when the full underquilt is warmer anyways...But that is the fun of it all! there are so many ways to do it! Thanks TLeB!

    One wind has a complete system for hammock camping I love the system I’ve personally taken it down into to 20s here in PA winters and have had no issues keeping warm . The top quilt under a poncho is awesome for windy wet fall and springs cold snaps

    I have the underquilt and i just ordered the top quilt wearable deal like you have also they sell a normal blanket that has the same snaps and you can attach it under you to the underquilt I think that could get you down to lower temps, I live in Canada so often we require extra warm stuff to operate in the colder months. I am pretty impressed with the quality and the price of these items.

    I like the UQ for a cheap, synthetic option. Now, to see if I can get one delivered before the world catches fire. Thanks, man.
    When I get a little extra $ (after the apocalypse), I may even try one of their hammocks. It looks on par with the Ridge Outdoors sub-$50 hammock, which I like so far.

  • @iowamatt2519
    @iowamatt2519 4 роки тому

    Great video Pete! Those look like fantastic options for 3 season camping. Does the blanket come in a full length like the underquilt to match up? I think for most people a setup down to 45 degrees is all u need. Are u saying that the topquilt is made for a smaller crowd, and those of us in the River King XL club might be outta luck? Also what hammock was that?

    • @RiverKingsKayak
      @RiverKingsKayak  4 роки тому

      Thanks Matt! They have all the options in full size as well. The hammock was an eno.

  • @MrBalas3
    @MrBalas3 4 роки тому

    Another good review about Onewind. Definitely a consideration. I would need the longer one being 6’4”. I just have a hard time imagining being warm under 50 degrees in it unless one gets the add on blanket (although not sure if one can get the longer underquilt and blanket). If one does than it’s about 4 lbs. which becomes more car camping than backpacking. Torn between this and spending a bit more for a HG Economy Incubator 30 degree and be done with it. Any experience with Hammock Gear? Appreciate the feedback.

    • @RiverKingsKayak
      @RiverKingsKayak  4 роки тому

      Thanks MrBalas3! If you have the budget, go with the HG all day - not even in the same universe of quality. I used an HG for about 7 years. Still have it and highly recommend. The OneWind is simply a budget option if you don't have the budget for or are unwilling to spring for the high end stuff...Also look at UGQ which is what I have moved to after the HG. You can customize your order a bit.

    • @MrBalas3
      @MrBalas3 4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the prompt response. What HG underquilt do you have and have you taken it lower than the temperature suggests and at the same time loosening it up were you able to use it for Summer without getting to hot? I looked at UGQ too and it’s to much, HG was already a bit more than I wanted to spend. Another thought I had was to get the Onewind underquilt and add snaps to a Costco down throw to attach to the Onewind underquilt for extra warmth if needed or if even possible.

    • @RiverKingsKayak
      @RiverKingsKayak  4 роки тому

      @@MrBalas3 i have the premium incubator and burrow zero. They will not work for summer. I sleep in just silk weights and a beanie down to the teens. I wear fleece top and bottom also down to zero. Upper 50's lower 60's would be the upper limit with the HG.

    • @MrBalas3
      @MrBalas3 4 роки тому

      River Kings I know it’s only been a couple weeks since you’ve got the Onewind set-up. Have you tried it at all with or without the extra underquilt blanket and what temperature? Also wearing what for extra warmth? Thanks again
