How Dexterity Affects Cast Speed | Testing | Elden Ring

- While digging through the files I saw that every spell as a Dex Casting Speed Min and Max, and its almost 10 min and 70 Max. So I wanted to check to see how much Dex changes your cast speed.
Radagaons Icon is +30 to this cast speed, and the Azur Staff is +40 so you can feasibly get max cast speed with no dex investment. I just wanted to see what it was like with Pure Dex Scaling, and maybe a LITTLE bit without requiring a specific weapon to use.
Theres also a cast speed talisman which you can combine with the staff, so theres plenty of options to run no dex if you want.
Yeah just playing around here, and figured I'd upload my tests.

One important note: For a single cast the different don’t appear to be that huge however when you start chain casting the difference really start to become obvious.
It doesn’t affect chain casts, only the first cast of a chain. Ex. If you use carian slicer, you will cast the first one faster with high dex, but ever cast in the chain after that is not affected by cast speed.
@@kolbywilliams7234 I think they were talking about the chains between different spells not consecutive spells of the same type.
I notice it with things like carian slicer
After all these years, hearing music from the Ragnarok Online soundtrack did things to me.
Saaaaaaaame
Right, if wasn't for damn warportal and they ridiculous difficult in doing stuffs like retrieving a lost pin, I would go back, I'm trying to find a different version from the original.
This actually is really usefull to see, always needed a visual of how much Dex ACTUALLY did
Radagon is 30 virtual dex, so you need 40 dex to reach the cap of 70 dex to have the maximum spell cast speed.
Thanks!!!!
I have a wizard with 350
Hp but an immense amount of fp and dex with tons of intelligence and bloodhound step and honestly who needs hp
Do you know if the cap is 70 dex for incantations as well?
@@bradencluster4739 yes
And the Azure staff? How much dex is that?
@lael soreseal is for stats in general but radagon is for casting speed only that’s why it’s higher
Excellent videos clarifying all the frequent and infrequent doubts in Elden Ring
Icon plus 30 is what I've been running. Nice. Thanks for this!
Go for Icon + 40 so you actually reach the cap speed with 70dex not that its that much diffrence
@@DerpyPannycakeicon is 40, so 30 is fine
Your information is wrong, Icon is 30.@@__-gf3zn
@__-gf3zn Icon is worth 30. It says that on the elden ring wiki sites. There is a staff - Azur's staff that gives 40. You could reach the cast speed cap with both of these with non dex investment. I don't think it's a great staff for damage, though.
@@sonictelephone1526 you can hold it in the opposite hand and it still counts it's bonus
So: max is 70, which is why 60 and 99 are similar
The speedup is based on the total length of the animation
The length of time a hitbox is out (sword sorcieries have the same swing speed) does not change, so for ones with active hitboxes only windup and ending lag
Id like to see people test with faith incantations. Everyone only tests with Int magic
Agreed! Why is that?
@@hitbox_91faith magic is affected
Works the same, no need to test
@@hitbox_91sorceies cast more straight forwardly than incantations
Pretty sure it only works on sorcery.
this ragnarok music makes me wanna play again. df
Excuse me, is this RAGNAROK ONLINE soundtrack, the OG "dex reduced casttime" game???? Very wholesome
The music you chose is amazing, I get the old nostalgic Diablo and Diablo 2 vibes from it
If you don’t want to drop the dex tax for faster speed, keep swift glintstone in front of the spell you wish to cast (ie: cometshard) and combo the spell. It will speed up the spell by negating the runic wind up portion. This won’t work on channels or long charges (azure comet). It helps for chunkier mobs that you don’t have to time to full charge on. Hitting the mob with swift is unnecessary so you can face away, cast, target lock, combo into shard, without initiating combat
Wasn't expecting Ragnarok bgm!
Bless you this helps so much with figuring out the best dps times for things
Absolutely loving this Ragnarok Online Musik
Nostalgic music from Ragnarok Online. And just like RO, Dex affects casting time. 😁
Great info as always. Thanks Phemeto!
This was the best comparison video I have seen. It doesnt need to be 20mins long to compare what the speeds look like from dex 1-99.
cheers for this..... brief and to the point.
subbed.
Another benefit of dex/int builds
seems it depends on the spell, this is very interesting. Certain spells dex seems super helpful, but others, almost useless. Really great video showing the differences! Seems radagons icon makes dex insignificant if you get it to 30. That's some neat info.
If I'm pure int/faith casting I use Radagons. If I'm doing a dex+int/faith build. I level both equally.
Yay,great video. Finally casting speed nicely explained, thanks.
Why am I learning about this just now
Great vid, nice and short, very informative. Also, I see you with that burnt skin 😵🔥
I think the icon has an artificial +30 to dex.
In cast speed u mean?
@@rG1vZ Yes.
The perfect informative video doesn’t exi-
I assumed this affected slower casting spells more and your video seems to show this. The several other casting videos use faster spells and Dex did not seem to have nearly the impact shown here.
I really appreciate this. Very informative. It seems like 30 Dex + Radagon's is the way to go for a realistic pvp build. Does this all apply to incantations the same way?
Yes, it works the same! I’m using a faith build
It does, but incants will still be slower than sorcs. Still really useful.
Thank you so much, I was literally gonna respec 4 times to try something like this.
the fact you used an RO OST doing a spell casting about dex
Is there any difference between level 1-30 at any level stage like step by step increase in animation speed, or do we need to upgrade dex to constant 30 lvl to see the difference in between?
I freaking love the bgm 🙃
That was very informative! Thank you.
I've come to the point were I leveled 70 dex so I can take off the Radagon Icon and use something else instead 😂
The video itself is good and all, but the comment section is gold. XD
I know this is old and potentially dumb as a result, but some of these I was able to pause it at points that displayed inconsistencies... It wasn't hard either. 1:05 is the main one where 60 + Radagons was faster than 99 + Radagons? It should be the same if the cap is ~70. The results shown indicate that it was timed improperly, Radagons effects specific spells differently or Radagons icon works against you if you go over the cap with it. I'm just gonna assume it's #1 but if you are 100% sure you timed it frame perfectly than this is curious.
It also depends on the windup of the skill, consider that any skill that has a posture like azur comet or moon sorcery wont be faster.
wait really?
I would love to see the frame data and all of the breakpoints eventually. Until a few days ago, I didn't even know Dex affected cast speed
I understand that some magic build are broken as heck, but when you are doing a normal run without looking for the best meta pve build on reddit, mages have it pretty bad.
You need almost all the stats contrary to dex or for users.
The fact that you need Dex to cast faster and Mind to not be out of mana after two spells when you are already paying stamina to cast... Forcing you to have less red potions and to use oppenings to drink the blue ones... and the fact that the majority of spells have about no poise damage...
There is a pretty big balance problem around casters in my opinion.
Staff of loss + night comet trivializes most fights in this game.
It caps at 70 virtual dex, with radagon's giving 30 virtual
so mage build gotta hit that lv250
Damn the soft cap gets pretty hard after 60
radagon icon +40 to dex virtually
beloved stardust cap at max casting speed
the spellcasting speed hard caps at ~70 dex, radagon’s icon gives 30 virtual dex
Heyyy fantastic video guy!
omg is a Ragnarok bgm
Just also use azurs staff in your off hand (even if you dont meet requirements) with no dex. Radagon icon + azurs staff is really nice
Dex scaling: damage, fall damage decrease, cast speed etc
Strength scaling: more ouch
Thankyou this was an amazing video
Casting should be focused on MIND because it makes fuken sense 😅😅😅
tyvm for this, 60 to 80 seems good enough
Might as well go 80 if you're using a dex weapon with your casting. 80 is usually the hard cap. Might as well top it off.
Thanks, super helpful!
how is it possible for you to have 1 dex? I don't think any class starts with 1 dex, the lowest starting dex possible is Hero with 9 dex
Mods prob
What about wretch class
@@MrHungryforbeats wretched starts every stat off at 10 no matter what
I like the ragnarok online background music.. 😃
Just like in RO, it was really weird hearing the OST aswell lmao
i didn't even KNOW dex affected cast speed
Ty very great info
Great song choice.
Thanks for this :)
I believe I remember the last guy that tested this found that 70 was the max for impacting cast speed
Sheit are you telling me my 7 DEX is what’s been making my incantations so slow in my STR/FTH build??
Thank you for this
Good video Thanks !
Diminished returns
Does it not work like in ds3? where you had Sage ring that gave +30/35/40 virtual dex depending on what version of the ring u had and you needed 50 total dex to reach cap. Witchtree Branch and Saint-tree Bellvine had similar effect as catalyst giving +99 virtual dex for sorceries and miracles. (The difference between 50 and 99 wasn't impactfull enough to justify the investment)
Yes it does work like that where the Icon is 30 Virtual Dex and the cap is now at 70 so you would need 30Dex+ Icon to reach max speed
nice work
thanks this is very usefull
Would be good if you can show a timer and a summary of the time differences
Insane, im going with my furst playthrough elden ring. i went with str/int, its make so much more sense to go dex/int... Its oke tho, i love knights greatsword moveset, but noted.
Welp, this explains why my casts are so slow.
wow never knew that
What about the new finger talisman that apparently boosts it further but increases damage taken
So 99 Dex plus Radagon's icon isn't necessary then since Radagon's icon adds 40 Dex
Alde Baran theme gg
60 dex is the sweet spot
Wtf this ragnarok song on a elden ring video😂😂😂
Thanks 💪🏾
I fckn hate that cast speed in souls games is tied to dex :D
Like... Dude, I'm trying to play pure caster, and the base cast speed is doodoo, and you're telling me I have to level fckn dex?? I unironically like the ds2 system more where cast speed is tied to attunement, faith and intelligence.
Nice I was doing a dragon breath build and was wondering how to increase cast speed I guess I'll be raising my dex to 40 then
what is that music choice, are we testing our dexterity to kill chickens or something
Cool 20 or 30 dex plus Radagon is the only thing you need.
Imho 60 is prob the most realistic soft cap for most serious players.
cant realistically put much into dex if you are not doing a dex build, at lvl 176 and I put points into too many skills and my main dmg skill isnt at 80 yet which apparently makes the game harder for me as I have also just 41 vigor, definitely built it wrong for damage and survivability.
I guess they had to give you SOME reasons to pick dexterity over the clearly-superior strength
Fromsoft: "would you like to take 35% more damage for this?"
What about faith magic, will it also cast caster and I think that's horribly slow still
Dex increases cast speed for faith incantations, too.
So the rumor that 70 dex gives you instant cast is a myth. Good to know.
60 to 99 is to small a different to commit all those levels. But good to know.
Does this apply to incantations?
It seems to; I had 80 Faith & 50 Dex at the time when I created my Emperor of Frenzied Flame character. With SOME of the Frenzied Flame incantations I’ve used, while I did more damage, the casting speed was slower, especially when charging. Now I have split-damage of 70 Dexterity & 70 Faith. I do decent damage, can use all my incantations, and the casting speed is a bit faster, since I hit the 60 softcap threshold.
nostalgia song
Azur Staff + 30 dex = max casting speed?
here i was thinking icon didnt make much of a difference
So what i see is that there’s zero reason to worry about dex scaling for casting speed as the differences are pretty much negligible. I don’t see enough of a difference to create attach windows that wouldn’t be there without it…
For sorceries it matters little because you have range on your side, for incantations it pretty much becomes nessasary for boss fights because the best ones have low range
@@shizukousapostle1stapostle710 Ancient Dragon's Lightning Strike requires max charging for the max output hence even miliseconds could do much difference. Or Dragon Communion incantations as they're a free ticket for self-execution as their casting speed is equivalent to donkey speed.
0:55 i know this soundtrack for somewhere, but I can't figure it out.
might be late but check the description for music
So i can run radagon icon in a strenght/lightning build so it can work properly
Sometimes I forget that dex does this lol
70 is the dex cap just fyi but its not much of a difference from 60 tbh
You're the fucking man!
Why is this in slight slow motion it makes it really hard to judge the actual speed.
damn, take me back to RO
