    I hope to purchase one of these beauties one day in the future.

    I bought mine in 2002, and it's covered around 250,000miles (the speed sensor was out for four years, and it took me a while to work out what the problem was). I've done the fork seals twice, rear wheel bearings, once, and I've put a new water pump in it. Bomb-proof bike, and I suspect it's the best of it's kind!

    Have a 2007 ST1300 w/ 87K miles. Only issue I have had is that I have had to replace the speed sensor twice (at every 40k so far). Other than that the bike runs great and 100K miles will be easy for this bike to get to. I use Throttlemeisters as a poor man's cruise control and they work pretty well.

      I just bought a ST 1300, unfortunately it is still half way across the country. Hopefully it will be here in the near future. I wasn't sure how it or I would do with so much distance at one time. Throttle hand fatigue was one item I was concerned with. I have been considering the Brakeaway cruise control for it's quality and safety over traditional throttle locks, but now I am going to try the throttle ty as shown on Mr. Knapp's video first. What would you consider a typical average number of miles you cover in a day on an extended trip?

    • @TwoBlueFRED
      @TwoBlueFRED  2 роки тому

      @@stephenlane7951 depends heavily on which part of the country we are in and have we been there before. also what if anything we are stopping to see that day. we rarely see less than 500 miles in one day on extended trip, no matter what we are doing for the day. If i were to try and put an average on it, probably 600 to 800 a day. It's very hard to pin down, we look try to make a schedule and figure out what we have to do to be where when we need to be. Open and CLose times effects that a lot. Might need to push one day, because a place closes at 5pm, but spend the night in the town, because it opens at 8am. a vacuum cruise control is the way to go, from what i've read. but they seem to be high priced. looking back, probably well worth the money.

    If you elevate the 5-way valve up a little bit with a foam block ... and then install some coarse air filtration media in the crankcase ventilation cavity on the forward right side of the air filter housing ... that oil mist won't clog that 5-way valve anymore. While you're in there, replace all of the philips-head mounting screws on the snorkels with allen-head bolts and spacers .. because they're a bitch to loosen with a screwdriver.
    Oil mist from the crankcase ventilation congeals in the intake bores and flows downward into the hoses and into the 5-way valve. Raising the valve prevents this. And the coarse filtration media cuts down on the oil mist inside the filter housing.

There's nothing wrong with the 13 - whe Honda upgraded the 11, the listened to owners, and the consensus was that it needed to be a bit more powerful, and needed to have sharper handling: Honda repoded by giving the 13 more power and the wheelbase of a VFR. Net result was a much better, sharper bike, but still a bit lardy, so it was never going to be a Blade or R1. I have an 05 since new have 48,000 miles it’s been one of the best bikes i ever had ! I know of an 03 with 232,000 miles and still going strong ! I also have a 2014 FJR 1300 but it’s not half the bike the ST is! FJR’S started putting cruise controls on in 2013 on up but they are physically smaller and tight not as comfortable and don’t ride or handle nearly as well as the ST ! And like you say the only thing it needs is cruise control! The last production year for the ST was 2012 however right now you can still buy a 2017 new leftover police bike available to the public in white/ black for 10k in Florida and other parts of the country with zero miles on them.

    My 2007 has almost 50,000 miles, I love it. Have a problem with the windshield, my fault as I had swapped out the stock shield for a wider one, big mistake , changed back and like the stock best., but I rarely move it, do run it up in rainstorm. Coming up on annual oil change, and won’t be long need some new rubber- yeah did the seat upgrade, fork brace, trunk, dash shelf and garmin nav, phone cradle, cut a hole in the trunk installed a marine grade radio with remote mounted on the tank, added speakers in the dash (that was a bitch) with a Boss bluetooth stereo and that rocks! Highway pegs, big Larry’s lights, the saddle bag protector bars, have direct connection for battery tender, fork lights, added some led running lights, added extra brake and blinker led lights on the trunk, have the mounting bars for CB radio antenna and did have a CB radio but ditched that, yeah I love riding this ST, oh put holes in the inner cowling alongside the forks and engine to blow off some of the engine heat, glad I did that. Did upgrade to a better horn. One thing I like is a tank pad, on long trips on the interstate when I am at high speed covering ground fast, I like to lay down on a thick pad on the tank and get some rest , put my feet up on the pillion pegs.

    Checking them is easy, adjusting them is much more involved.Clean the spark plug holes (compressed air), put the engine in top gear ), pull the valve covers ( by now you probably need to replace the reusable neoprene gaskets)., rotate the engine with the spark plugs loose, or removed by bumping the rear wheel forward only. , get the pointy end of the cam lobe pointing directly away from the valve lifter, (the thing it's pressing against). , then stick a gap gauge in the space between the two...I leave the plugs in, & loose so stuff doesn't fall in .The valves can actually get less clearance over time because of their design., If it gets to tight it will hold the valve off it's seat & destroy both! ., too loose and it makes noise .

    • @TwoBlueFRED
      @TwoBlueFRED  3 роки тому
