@ Al Mac MotoVlogs - Nice review! I have a friend who has the same bike. Thanks for the comment on the pan weave, good to hear. I'm also VERY surprised to see you riding in Clifton, VA. I road cycle there often, some great riding, scenery, and the village eateries.

Great review and honest observations regarding the top heaviness when at a stop and slow speeds. I like Honda V4’s and have enjoyed them during my 800 VFR and my 1200 VFRX ownership. Amazing engines and extraordinary build quality. I wouldn’t hesitate to pick another one up. 👍🏾
Thanks Gil, I try to be as honest as possible. Honda'sV4 engines are so smooth and powerful. It makes it hard to me to think about selling this motorcycle. I test ride other sports touring motorcycles but I'm never persuaded to buy.
Re top heaviness, I found this a major issue on a previous GL500 Silver Wing Interstate I owned in the late 80s, is the ST1300 worse? I dropped the GL500 twice: once on the first sharp right turn after fitting a new rear tyre, and once while making a U-turn in a narrow road. I never had a top heavy issue with my GL1100 Gold Wing Interstate, possibly due to the low CG.
@@Visionery1 I don't know if the ST1300 is worse. I do know that it holds 7.7 gallons of gas and the tank is not under the seat. It's in front of the rider. Once moving the ST is great. It's like a different bike.
@@amacmotovlogs apparently there are two tanks, the lower holds 8 liters, while the one in front of the rider holds 21 (still quite a lot of weight so high up).
Wrong on the range. The most I ever got out of a tank was 338. That’s still better than any other tourer I be looked at. I had a 2003(1st yr) and a 2009(red). Cavernous bags, huge tank, electric windshield, steady of the road at better than 100mph.
2003 ST1300 , 83k+ miles. Scorching hot in the summer. High speed wobbles at 115mph with bags. 135mph wobble with out the bags. I beat the brakes off 600/750's all day all the while comfortably. Would never ever sell, summer heat be damned. ST1300 is a police interceptor, therefore everything is heavy duty. Brake pads are $150 for full set. Clutches at 100k. Can't beat that. Very, very, very overdesigned motorcycle, and most importantly, IT'S A HONDA DAMMIT
Yup, these have always been bad ass cop bikes. I need something that has parking lot manners though ... but I still want one sooo bad haha for the price they're insane
Al Mac, have you noticed any qparticular sensitivity to wind on the ST1300? My brother-in-law has a 2009 and he is u comfortable riding it when the wind is blowing much (10-15mph, higher gusts). Thanks, Tom.
Thomas. Yes and no. It’s a bit like a sail, but I’ve learned to accept it and I’ve developed a riding technique that mostly counteracts it. - Don’t ride to slow, sit on the windward side of the seat and lean your shoulder in, kind of like MotoGP cornering on the track. Also I ride on the windward side of my lane so I have some space to react to gusts.
@@PanRider939 I have had my ST only a couple of months now, but it definitely is sensitive to the wind. I was riding last weekend with crosswind gusts to 20mph or so and the wind was moving the bike what I perceived to be 2'-3' in my lane. The wind did not both me to much at 55 mph or so, but at passing speed I was not real comfortable with it. Agree with move to the windward portion of lane for sure. I'll have to try the other two recommendations you made. Thanks.
Thanks AL! You answered ALL my questions and HELL YES ...I'm (on a fixed income and this will take some time for me but) BUYING ONE! I believe your mods are useful and should work for the "Rest of Us" over 40.
My ST1300 had a cruise control, was mounted from previous owner. It is acctually possible to mount a car cruise controle there is enough space underneath the body cover.
The ST13/11 community also has an excellent owners group and wealth of knowledge to help everyone get the most out of their bikes. That is a huge bonus,,, that I am proud to be a part of. HNY,, all
I agree. I'm part of the community as well. Folk have helped me understand how to fix my small issues when they have occurred. We do get the most of of these bikes.
I have a 2010 that I also got a good deal on. Everything you said about this bike is right on the money. It is a bit outdated but then so am I. I got rid of my soft tail for this bike and it rekindled my 25 plus year love for riding. At 66 years young I’m back to being a 10,000 mile a year rider. Great video! You have a new fan.
Nice review. A great purchase from a local sale. Performing a thorough maintenance & safety check this winter, bringing all necessary items up to recommended levels, sort of like starting the maintenance clock from zero miles. An ST1300A, My heaviest bike ever, I look forward to yet another class from MSF, Motorcycle Safety Foundation group, using this bike. You covered the essential key points of riding enjoyment, making it all work for the rider. “Bob Voyagee!”.
If you have a problem with handling the bike at slow speeds, check out Robert Simmons youtube vidoes. I too am a former LE with 35 years riding experience. Getting over that feeling is just learning the proper clutch, throttle, brake control. I have two 120 lb females who have no problem handling the weight of this bike at slow speeds in a 18' circle. Thank you for your review and you don't have to apologize for the high speed test because it was all done in the interest of a fair review :) Ride safe!
Thanks brother! I'm going to check out Robert Simmons videos. The bike handles great. I think I'm going to keep it for a while. I have been looking into getting a K1600 but that may be years down the line.
another good review - I just bought an 06 (with much more mileage) - not worried as I know the owner and it’s been well maintained. I might mention a bike sitting around for 1/2 a dozen years maybe that might be a concern. Maybe yours has proven Honda’s built in reliability?
It's an ST brother. Give it a New battery, fill it up, pour in an Entire can of Sea Foam. Run it till almost empty. Refill to half tank, if you're not going LONG distance. Now change the plugs. You're all set.
The bike doesn't make my legs too hot. During the summer months the big does expel some heat. However, that heat feels great during the fall and winter.
I found an ST 1100 for sale on craigslist locally. 29,000 miles original owner fresh Michelin pilot tires never dropped never crashed maintenance records. I told the owner I would not be right back when I took it for a test drive, I told him I’d be gone for at least an hour. When I got 15 miles out, the heat pouring out of the engine and radiator may be turn around..i took the bike back and asked the owner how he can stand the heat pournig on him while riding.. he said that he is welcome when the temperature goes down below 60°… I told him I have had lots of bikes, I just sold my golden GL 1800, I’ve never ridden a hotter bike ST 1300. I told him I want something I can ride when it’s nice out in the summer also, not just in early spring and late fall. I told him I’m gonna have to pass on this one. to be fair, he concourse and the FJR are also easy bake oven’s on wheels, And that is a pity, because I really like the basic layout of the Honda the best, although, the engine was not nearly as smooth as I expected it to be, of course my last touring bike was a gold wing six cylinder, so maybe I’m a little jaded when it comes to smooth, but, my current Kawasaki Z 400 twin, is smoother than this ST 1300. Maybe the throttle bodies are out of sync, maybe it has that vacuum issue these are known for, I don’t know, all I know is, the heat blasting me on an 85° day with all my gear on,, I think the owner and I told him I’m gonna pass on this one…
Just purchased exactly same bike & colour fantastic bike love it. I personally have experienced the wobble just over 90mph in bad weather conditions windy rain, screen fully up & full luggage but not fully loaded.
I have a question for you St1300 owners. What's your procedure on washing your dirty bike after a ride in the rain. Maybe you wipe it down or wash it good.?
Depends on how bad it looks. Most of the time I just wash it wash it with some car wash and water. It it looks bad I detail the bike with a full waxing.
Al, great review you're right on point regarding the ST. I have a 05 the same color as yours just non- abs. And the bike is so smooth like you stated. I've 66k on mine and won't sale it for the world. It's a excellent switch from my 2012 Wing. I ride the ST a lot during the cooler temperatures living in Indy since it will cook you in the summer months. I use the Wing for the long rides because the Wing is slightly more comfortable than the ST. Al, where did you purchase the V stream windshield? Peace!!!!!
I purchased my V Stream windshield from Amazon. The link is below. I agree with you, my Goldwing is more comfortable than my ST. However, the ST handles better. They both compliment each other. I'm in the market for the 2020 Wing and will keep all three Hondas. I know, it sounds crazy, three touring motorcycles in one garage. www.amazon.com/dp/B005KQV8OQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_Bnm8FbVSV4XDE
@@amacmotovlogs thanks for the info regarding the windshield. Do it while you can that's not being crazy it's what you like. It's cool to me. Stay safe Al
@M E Changing the windshield wasn't a waste for me. Everyone has their own preferences. We all have different body types as well. When I'm riding long distances I don't want any wind one me while I'm on the highway. My V Stream provides that. The stock windshield is good. I just prefer windshields that angles wind away from me.
With these sport cruisers ,they are always looking really good, but you must be aware of what its like below the bodywork, it maybe rusty or the previous owners may have made someshort of lashup with the electrics (ask me how I know). Informative vid thanks
Nice review Al Mac. Every time I see a ST1300 for sale on craigslist, I say, "Nah, 700 plus pounds is way too much!" But after watching your video, maybe next time I'll check out the ST.
The pan wobble in the uk came from the police here having issues at 115 mph and once it had injured and killed some of them it was realised it was down to how they had them set with all their kit and equipment mine has never shown it but I’ve never carried a lot of weight on it yet. As for the 115 mph I would never admit to doing that on the uk road!!!! Great video keep up the good work
I ridden both old and new models. I found them to be very safe to ride. Its a pity the congestion zones and ulez emissions charges in the UK, wiped the 2000/2006 models from the roads of inner London roads. Sad really.
A special tip I learned about the stock seat. On a hot day, hold up the back of the seat and push down on the middle until you are able to put the rear mount, one position lower than the front. This has the affect of tipping your buttocks back more onto the wider part of the seat and gives a nicer curve. Much more comfortable for longer rides. The only downside is that you’ll only have two positions of adjustment not three.
It's true you can't get a better motorcycle for long-distance travel, the ST is always a pleasant ride, one thing I have to contradict ... 1:20 vibration? If you have the chance to ride the Honda CBX 1000 then you will really experience what driving without vibration means. Even ... my CBX is more vibration-free than my new GL 1800/2018 Keep up the good work! Stay Safe.
That Corbin seat looks amazing, how does the base of the spine feel after a day's ride? I once did a 350km ride on an Aprilia Pegaso 650, after 200kms I was in such agony I could barely brake and change gears, and took 3-4 days to recover. P.S. 7:07, I noticed a slight left to right pendulum swing while riding?
The Corbin seat feel great. It's a bit stiff in the right places. It's puts my body in a good riding position. The stock seat made my butt and back hurt. The Corbin helped with that.
@Visionery1 2 years ago I did 1250km on one day on Honda cbr 600 F4i no agony. but this year i did 7500km on 18 days trip and my back got hurt - really bad 2 months in home without work, Now i thinking to change it to St1300 - cardan and so good suspension and relax position

I don't find many on the web and I don't know what to think about it from an aesthetic prospective... Thanks a lot in advance !!!
Thank you for this outstanding review. One is available in my area for a most outstanding price. I am doing my research and will let you know how it turns out.
All day touring in mostly top gear, I’ve achieved almost 22kpl (51mpg). Around town and day rides more like 18kph. One trip I clocked 560k and still had 3/29 litres, so that’s 21.54kph
I think the wobble is mostly on the older esp’ pre 08 models. I’ve done 115mph (185kph in our money) no drama. Our limit is 100 so it’s fast enough for me. Apparently if your pressure and suspension is setup correctly it’s less of an issue. The wobble occurred mostly on police bikes which is why the UK ditched them. Here in New Zealand our forces just bought 13 of them. I know the procurement guy and he said they are more reliable, economic to acquire and maintain, plus the wobble scenario has been addressed. Happy riding.
I just bought a 2008 with 7000 miles on it just wondering where did you find your Corbin seat and that new windshield and your tip bars and also wondering if you have the cruise pegs on your bike
Wow, you found an ST with 7000 miles. That's awesome. I bought my seat directly from Corbin. They will allow you to customize it. I bought the V Stream windshield from Amazon. I got the saddlebag guards from a friend. I have seen a few sets on Ebay. I don't have cruise pegs. I'm short, therefore the regular pegs work for me. I know you will love your ST, they handle well and have all day comfort.
I have had 2 ST1300. The high speed wobble came from the stock windshield. I changed out to an aftermarket windshield. Made sure it's tall so the wind goes over your helmet. I'm 6" 1'". The tall windshield stopped the wobble.
I’ve experienced this wobble as well but only at speeds above 90+ with the windscreen up. I’m no engineer but perhaps they intended the windshield to be down when traveling at that speeds. 🤷♂️
No. I made an adapter plate similar to this one: www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-ST1300-Motorcycle-Crash-Bars-Saddlebag-Guard-adapter-kit-All-Years-/333952429936?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
Upgrade front springs and rear shock with aftermarket and you will have great bike. I sold mine with 100k still runing great. The V4 1300 from Honda is a great engine.
@@amacmotovlogs I had front Wilbers progresive springs(anti-dive off) and Wilbers schock mounted. The same windshield like your and the bike was perfectly stable with Wshield on max height at a high speed 180/kmh. However...in compare to ST1100 on a high speed it was not that stable I can admit that. The most stable bike for me on a high speeds is ST1100.
@@Visionery1 when I'm not out on
the ride, I only fill the tank to half, keeping the top heaviness to a minimum.
High speed, wobble typically has occurred when somebody has a large top box on the back
Great review. Stay safe, ride beautiful roads, and please keep posting. Love from western Md.
Thanks.
@@stephenlane7951 Just be cautious on wet roads, you’ll develop quite a side load on the tyres.
@@PanRider939 Thanks for the tip.. I'll try to keep that in mind.
Meh, most larger bikes throw heat in the summer..It's a quality sport tourer with no frills ...
The 2003/2004 model has the wobble issue. Was fixed in late 2004.
Awesome! I love that you rekindled your love for riding. I ride a lot as well. It's the one thing I can do that honestly makes me relaxed.
You know what's better than a Honda ST1300? 2😀
😂 😂, haha, you got that right!!!
I have a 2009 red st. Love it. I have a few of the same modifications as you made including customized seat.
I love that we can customize our ST to our liking.
Happy New Year....Love the color, and Love the bike!..everything you said is true! Have an AWESOME DAY!
Thanks brother. Happy New Years to you as well!
These are some efing bikes !
Just got an 03 a couple weeks ago. Great bike. Must say I have a huge gripe with the heat burning my legs. Does yours do that?
The bike doesn't make my legs too hot. During the summer months the big does expel some heat. However, that heat feels great during the fall and winter.
One thing I didn't hear you say but how tall are you? How do you fit? Will this 'fit' a person that's 6'2"?
hello Steve. I am 6ft 2 in. and I did have an ST1300 for about a year and it was all good, at least for me.

All that painted plastic makes cleanup a breeze!
Hey bro do you use clutch when shifting especially after stop?
Yes sir, I think most folks use their clutch. But, clutchless up shifting is useless as well. 💯 💯 💯
Al, where did you purchase the V stream
windshield?

I ride this bike and I weigh 117lbs. It gives me heart attack to maneuver it at parking. Lifting it on the center stand? Don’t even think about it.

Great review, Ive had the st1100 and st1300 VERY good bike, only thing it NEEDS is reverse for parking
I ridden both old and new models. I found them to be very safe to ride. Its a pity the congestion zones and ulez emissions charges in the UK, wiped the 2000/2006 models from the roads of inner London roads. Sad really.

Lol...got it.
Stay Safe.
I have never riden a CBX but I would like to. Most of Honda's motorcycles are great.
how's the bike you still have it?
I still have it and it's running well!
Same color as mine. I am going to put Delvevics on her this spring. Nice vid.
Nice, I’m going with the 13” tri ovals. IMO they sound the best
@Visionery1 2 years ago I did 1250km on one day on Honda cbr 600 F4i no agony. but this year i did 7500km on 18 days trip and my back got hurt - really bad 2 months in home without work, Now i thinking to change it to St1300 - cardan and so good suspension and relax position

what is your mpg ? for example on highway 70-80mph? and combine mpg ? and in city?
All day touring in mostly top gear, I’ve achieved almost 22kpl (51mpg). Around town and day rides more like 18kph. One trip I clocked 560k and still had 3/29 litres, so that’s 21.54kph
Apparently the wobble kicks in at 130 MPH but it sounds like a load to me. mine is as stable as anything at speed. Great Bikes!
Please see my response to the “weave”. Thanks.
Thanks for the review
No problem brother

did you have to drill a hole to install the crash bar or saddle bag protector?
