My last 'big' bike was an '82 Gold Wing GL1100 Interstate in '91, then I stopped riding between '94 and 2014, since 2014 I've been nipping around on a PCX150. I'm about to get a 2009 ST1300, one-owner, FSH, 47,900kms... I hope I won't be disappointed. I'm approaching the bike with a heavy dose of respect and trepidation. ;)
@@EEEBA1 yes, I got the ST1300, but, I'm embarrassed to say, the bike scared the hell out of me, I did a total of 50kms and sold it again within a month (I also gently laid it down after pulling away in second instead of first). This is in no way the bike's fault, but rather mine, after 30 years the fear factor was just overwhelming. I'll stick to my PCX150, maybe upgrading to a TMAX for the odd long trip.
@@Visionery1 I completely understand. That bike is like a huge boat :). The size and weight is my biggest concern so I am comparing it to the Kawasaki Concourse before I make my decision. But the weight is my main concern with the ST1300. Ride safe my friend.
@@EEEBA1 I bought it to relive a dream, take the wife for a trip into the country for a Sunday breakfast etc. In reality that may have happened once or twice, the bike would've stood, so I rather let it go to someone who'll ride it. I do around 1,300kms with the scooter annually, I probably would've done the same on the ST1300. Love my ST. Add risers and a throttle lock and you have a great tourer that can handle the twisties with ease. I have been averaging 48 to 49mpgs at 65mph. I'll keep this one for awhile.
J'adore mon ST1300 ABS de 2004 avec seulement 34 000 km. Une merveilleuse machine, puissante et confortable. Le son du moteur est très différent de celui des autres motos. Un grondement profond se fait entendre et les accélérations sont rageuses sans être brutales. Avec des "risers" et un "throttle lock" mon ST1300 est fabuleux. J'entends aller à Laconia au New Hampshire en juin 2020 pour serpenter les montagnes et vivre que du bonheur.
I have a 2007 ST1300 and agree with everything in this good review. I would add a few comments. The seat is a joke for such an expensive touring bike...would expect more padding and comfort. The handlebars are about 2 inches short for upright position which caused wrist fatigue on every ride...doesn't matter where you adjust the seat. It seems this bike was bought mainly for touring, not sport mode. I believe the police version had longer bars. I bought a Helibar riser. The heat in both storage compartments is hot enough to heat a sandwich...I wouldn't put a cell phone in there. The weight becomes very apparent, very quickly if you go a little too fast into a curve...I've had some scary moments. The windshield blocks nearly all wind and the smooth car like power makes this bike a joy to ride on roads like in this video.
I like my 07 as well. I was humored by your sandwich in the storage compartments comment. Yup, it gets hot in there. I have a Puig windscreen, Sargent seat, and Delkavic' slip-ons. My favorite part about the bike is that V4
Honda should consider a smaller 800 cubic inch V4 engine shaft driver concept bike with shaft drive cruise control advanced TFT display with navigation bluetooth , heated grips standard and keep the large fuel tank for crazy range and tune the engine for good fuel economy and great torque. I think honda could build the ultimate touring bike for world travel with common sense approach to building a bike for comfortable all day ride ergonomics and solid dependable chassis engine design that offers comfort handling and suspension that works for the rider.

The Europeans have it right. It's a two up tourer. A lot of US owners think its a sport bike and complain about the suspension. Regardless, its a great bike. I love it and, of course, Honda has now discontinued it....
Great review! Your review is what I was looking for. Question, if I'm looking for a commuter bike and my commute is all highway riding back and forth. Would this bike do it for me, even if it's a very first bike? I was also looking at the Yamaha FJR 1300 or the Suzuki c90t or the Yamaha RSTD. I want touring capabilities, bcuz I want to ride it all year round and maybe out of town on occasions, once I've learned to ride it. Have a ride and thank you for the video.

I owned a 1991 & 1995 ST1100 the only thing I didn't like was the usual crappy seat and the lack of an electronic cruise control. Now I see they still haven't added one. but came with an electric windshield. If you really want a touring bike you need a electric cruise control. The throttle locks are primitive and require constant adjustment
Honda does see to be a little bit behind in some areas. Cruise control, six speed, radio, seats etc. I don’t mind not having a radio or gps yet put a factory cruise control on those things maybe a 6th gear for the highway speeds
Great review! Thank you for that. Have you driven a GL1800 Goldwing? I am on the fence whether to go with a sport tourer, a cruiser (like your Indian), or even a Goldwing. I've owned only 4 bikes, and they all could be considered beginner bikes ;). 2 Yamaha Viragos, a 250 and 535. And 2 Harleys, an 04 XL883 standard and an 09 Dyna Superglide in the custom trimmed guise. The main reason I didnt keep my latest bike, the 09 Dyna, was that it's unbalanced 96ci v-twin engine shook my wrists and hands and legs too much when going down the road. I have too many years working at jobs using my hands and standing on my feet and they aren't too fond of vibration and shaking. I did like its upright position along with the forward foot controls. I had added a windscreen, lowers and deflectors to it as well. Also my hands and knees had minimal stress to support my weight as I had most of my weight sitting on my rear while resting AGAINST a seatbag mounted behind me on the 2-up seat. But given I've never ridden a sport bike, would an st1300 be something I could ride on for extended periods? Or is it too much sport as I would be required to place my weight against my hands and knees to operate the bike? If that's the case should I just go with a cruiser like your Indian, a Victory Cross Country, or a Harley dresser? Or should a Goldwing be my only consideration? I guess my decision would come down to smoothness and keeping my weight off my hands and knees. Not sure of what all you've ridden so I thought I'd see if you could help me out. Thanks again!!

Wanting to buy a ST1300. I did some similar research and ruled out the FJR and Concours. Did you come across death wobble issues?
