As a drummer myself, this was so impressive, to use a completely unfamiliar kit, and be able to stay in time with the cues and dynamics shows how talented of a musician this guy is, props to him, anyone who criticizes this is just jealous cause I doubt anyone in that situation woulda done better. Also Taylor’s kit sounds amazing
He looked arched like he was too tall for the kit and still murdered it. I personally think he outplayed Taylor on this one after watching a live version of him on it 🤷
@@jayson198494 That posture will result in back problems (he does NOT need to bend his head forward as much as he did ... unless there was something blinding him) ... and without having the usual earpiece to synch with the rest of the music AND having to react to Dave pausing the song or switching to "sing along with the crowd" took some concentration.
At the end of the piece I think he was fully exhausted though ... adrenaline having done its part for the few minutes that it works.

You could tell by Taylor smiling, he did well. Best compliment ever!
You could tell at the start Dave was looking over his shoulder like, "can this kid keep up?" and then later on he was like, "yeah, cool he's a pro, who cares, play the song"
I remember years ago I once did a sound check for a local drummer. There were only 10 people in the club and and I crapped my pants playing in front of him.
To do what Richard did was amazing. He took the pressure and nerves, chewed it up and spat it out in an epic performance.

The best part about these moments is that Dave and the band know this is a defining moment in these kids’ lives and they don’t rush it. This is a great example...this ten minutes undoubtedly changed this kid’s life.

Exactly. Richard read the room (the bands cues). He didn't try going all "worldstar" for his 15 minutes of social media fame and make it all about himself like a jackass. He stayed calm, cool and collected (and classy) and went viral for all the right reasons.

Carl Glover what I don’t get is how they know the people they get onstage can actually play or not. Surely one of these days (pardon the pun) we monkey is going to get up there who can’t play for shit??? But every video like this I’ve seen with the food, the people can play. Even the little kids!!
@@Madgeney I think everyone at a Foos show knows they will be ridiculed endlessly, as well as being thrown off the stage, if they got up and then "shit the bed" as Dave puts it. I like to think the people who want to live the rock and roll dream that can't play are smart enough to keep their mouths shut at these shows.

@@djlittle21 oh God yes. And while you'd think it would be a huge hit or miss, I almost feel that judging by a person's demeanor you could almost stand out by the genuineness a person emanates.
I also think, anybody there that's there for the music, wouldn't want to interfere in the process.
The amount of concerts, venues and just the sheer number of audiences these guys have seen over the years , it's like some crazy intuition.
The talent that gets showcased by these types of gestures, if you didn't know any better, you could think it was staged.

I love the slower beat this guy put on the song. Man, he's got some great chops. I'm sure he was nervous and just a bit tight on the beat but man the talent shows and the personal touch he put on things is fuckin top notch. Nothing but respect to this kid.

Funny, I can't remember the original but this guy was incredible. Simply enjoyable to watch. A fans dream come true. OK just went back and listened to the original, man I like this version way more! It seems like Dave took it into this direction or it would have been boring having the kid up there.

My favorite part about all of this.. If you watch closely.. There are moments when you can see that Dave stops performing like he's playing a show with a crowd drummer, and just performs it as the Foo Fighters. The guy is so good that he allows Dave to just perform and not be worried about the guest drummer. So fucking awesome. I could watch this on repeat forever. This and Kiss Guy.
that's what I was thinking! the first "when the wheels come down" is such a moment, I think he's not even thinking about having a different drummer at that moment.

This is probably the best video of an audience member playing with a famous band I’ve seen yet! The guy didn’t seem comfortable or familiar with the kit at first, but then holy cow! He just kept getting better! And to impress Grohl... Good for him!

Let me tell you, I was called up by godsmack at earth day birthday last year and when you get up to play you see the band, the crowd, the lights all the cameras and everything starts to just go numb and you just get this rush. It’s amazing, the feeling is incredible. Good job

You could tell that the whole arena was behind this kid..He absolutely killed it!! Dave and the band are so cool for letting these people do that during concerts..I think Dave really gets a kick out of it especially with guys like Richard and"Kiss Guy" if you've seen that dude jam to Monkey Wrench with them at a show..More importantly they realize that these are 10 minutes that these people are never gonna forget their whole entire lives!!

If I were him, I would’ve been playing so much faster than the actual tempo of the song😂 when I get nervous I play fast and forget about the tempo. Especially since he doesn’t have in ears. My gosh it’s hard enough to hear other instruments over loud drums, I couldn’t imagine playing with an arena full of FF fans singing and PLAYING WITH DAVE FRICKIN GROHL... Mad props Richard🤘🏼

Bands like foo fighters and Queen. Give the audience a very interactive experience letting fans get up on stage to join in on either, guitar or drums or what ever instrument. Bands like these set a positive experience and a positive attitude in the music industry.

I'm so jealous. I was at their concert in Pula one day prior and held up a sign saying if I may play Everlong with them. Sadly I wasn't brought up on stage. But man I tried and he even looked at me thinking if he should bring me up, everybody was cheering for me. I'm so happy for this guy. Still, it was the best concert I've been to. 3 hours of pure enjoyment.
He even threw a stick out to the crowd! That was awesome. One way to tell a good drummer is one who can jump on a strange kit and be comfortable. Great job.
