Jennifer and Myka, could the two of you maybe host a chic society tea at the plaza? I know many of the members including myself would love that! Just a thought.😊 Enjoyed this video so much.
I really enjoyed this video and your book is wonderful, Myka. I’m loving it! Your writing style is friendly and accessible and I hope you and Jennifer collaborate again in some way. How nice would it be for you and Jennifer to have tea and I’m guessing Jennifer’s children would have a lovely time participating in one of your courses, although I’m sure they have modern etiquette in their tool kit under Jennifer’s tutelage. Thank you, both!!
My grandmother raised me to be a certain way and I was afraid that way died with her generation 😢. It’s cliche but finding Daily Connoisseur, I found my people ❤️
I just turned 40 and I have been on an incessant mission to improve myself. I found Jennifer channel on a birthday family road trip to Yosemite in July, and I have been watching her videos ever since. I just ordered 2 of the madame chic books and now Myka’s book is on it’s way! I have had to teach myself a lot, and I am quickly realizing how much I have to learn. Great stuff ladies. Thank you for all of the content!!
Adore you to pieces!!! Thank you so much for having me on. What a beautiful community you have created and I'm so thrilled to be a part of it today! Can't wait to take you for tea at The Plaza soon xoxoxoxoxo
I was raised overseas as an Army Brat and we always got a serious orientation talk about local customs, expectations, taboos. So helpful! We also never left the house looking like slobs.
I was waiting for this interview because I just read her book. I am inspired by her etiquette tips, and a few of my takeaways is looking elegant wherever I go, having good posture whatever I do, closing the door with my back toward to door so I can face the room, using the Continental style while eating at a more formal restaurant, always being “on brand” (even when you are out for a quick errand), and enjoying my afternoon tea (not “high tea”). I agree that both of you have so much in common! 🍵🍰💕👠💋
At 69 years old, I never learned these things. I look forward to practicing with my granddaughter and daughter in law going to a formal tea sometime this year.
Lovely interview. I have a memorable experience our family of four had in a small town in France. We were expats at the time on vacation and had spent many years traveling all over France and were familiar with French culture and etiquette. We attended a very small mom and pop restaurant that delivered the typical courses. One of those was a small plate of three cheeses. We were so delighted to see the beautiful cheese but thought it was a bit much for even our family of four to finish with all the other food. Even made a comment to the waitress how much cheese this was. The family decided that we did not want to be rude Americans and ate the delicious cheeses. The waitress came back some time later and made a scene in the restaurant stating that she couldn’t believe we ate all the cheese and that it was supposed to be for the whole restaurant. (In the USA we are not accustomed to sharing food among other tables). We were so embarrassed and felt like hiding under the table. All was forgotten as she brought us some beautiful desserts to end our dinner. Now we laugh and tell our tale in a light hearted way. 😀
Rather than the words that were spoken, your warmth and glee- your delight in each others' company- revealed the best model of etiquette one would do well to follow. I am grateful to you both for teaming up for this fun, edifying conversation. May all be well for both of you and yours, Bonnie
Jennifer, you can't imagine, how you change my view about how to look presentible, about amount of clothes and about mindful shoping. Confidence and love for yourself is very related. Also, to look more presentible, you have not to spend a lot of time. :) thank you
I'm so grateful to my (French) parents who taught my brothers and me the Savoir-Vivre at a very young age :) I knew a few things about the British etiquette but not the American so it was fun to watch this video. I remember how funny it was when as a French schoolgirl I first went to England to visit my English penfriend and her family, and found out about the "keep your hands under the table" rule, as opposed to our French way - it was like a little revolution to me :D
Oh my that was fun. I taught my 4 children etiquette from a small book that the wife of The Archie comics series wrote and her husband illustrated it. Also I did the book of virtues for children. My kids still tease me about. That to this day but also thank me as it made them more self assured in many life situations.
I feel like my two best friends just put out a video. So, just know that you both have a third friend with you in spirit... As you were speaking of how many similarities you have, and how much you enjoy all the mutual content, there was a person out there saying, "Me too, me too!!" :) This video made my day- what you both do is so important, and it is valued by so many people!
I saw another “etiquette expert” on TV, and she made so many grammar mistakes (subject-verb agreement, bungling the subjunctive, etc., native US English speakers often have terrible grammar) that I just couldn’t take her seriously, but you are so well-spoken, Myka. I just ordered your book in Audible, and will buy it in print later. I find that just reminding and reviewing my etiquette knowledge keeps it fresh in my mind and I learn new things, as well. I think etiquette improves a lot with practice, like most things. Thanks, Jennifer for introducing us to Myka.
A lot of negative remarks like “you’re so dressed up”, “you speak like a professor”, etc., come from the commentator’s sense of insecurity, I believe. When they believe someone looks, acts or sounds better, their instinct is to put the person down for it, so they feel ok about their own lack of effort.
Myka's Instagram do and don't clips are brilliant! So much fun and totally spot on in the realm of etiquette! Just love her. Great interview! I laughed often, it was so humorous. And the tea cup grasp at the end was a total revalation for me! But if you watch Downton Abbey, there are many, MANY tea cup moments that will teach you the proper etiquette as well. ♥️
Thank you for having your guest Jennifer It’s seem etiquette is a loss art We need more of these classes and books that keep us up to date When I was a teen in the 70 s growing up in Annapoils every girl I knew went to etiquette school Of course we wanted to be invited to meet midshipmen at the Naval Academy which was not coed at the time They only invited girls from certain neighborhoods and debutantes to meet them for tea Anyway I want to know is it now acceptable that the man walks on the inside not outside ????
I didn’t realize I said um and uh so much until I had to witness in a criminal trial and was later shown the transcript, they record everything. The main reason I do it is that when we pause, someone always just jumps in and interrupts, including cross-examining attorneys. I think constantly interrupting is one of the most annoying habits of Americans.
Love it all! Thank You!! Starting at 16:30 onward - great advice for anyone going to a high school or collage reunion!!!!! Thank you! Thank you for noticing!!! Own It!!!!
It's nice how warm you guys are. And it's hard sometimes to feel good about yourself but I like how positive that you are about fake it till you make it...
I loved the interview!😊 Thank you Jennifer and Myke! ❤ Finally, I learnt how to hold a coffe cup and a tea cup! 🎉 I knew about the saucers, but not about holding cups. Thank you lovely ladies! I am so happy I am a member of the Chic society.😊
My two favorite teachers!! Oh this video is just fabulous and worth watching. I learn so many things from you both. May your lives be more enriched each day.
Wow, this was such a comforting conversation! I'm happy to know I'm not alone in feeling social anxiety and that the experiences of bettering yourself being met with resistance by people you know also being a common experience. Thank you, Myka and Jennifer.
This has to be one of my favorite videos. You guys were great. The answers you found out about holding the cup or mug and styles of eating were so helpful. I spent two years in Bermuda, which is mostly British. During that time, I was taught to eat the British way. My mom was horrified and tried to retrain me. Lol Now I will feel more confident about what style of eating to use. Thank you.
I subbed and followed Myka on Instagram. I'm forever in need of refining my etiquette. I love your Rodeo Drive story. I had a similar experience when I saved to have my hair done there. Once I got out of my Hyundai to have it parked by a well dressed valet, I realized I was not in Santa Clarita anymore. I never felt more out of place.
Oh, this was pure delight! I was pleased to learn about the proper way to hold a tea cup, the practicality of lip liner, a good response to those who "compliment" in a negative manner, and about dining etiquette when it comes to using the knife and fork. To us, who were born and raised in the United States of America, it has always seemed a bit "unclassy" to see a person pierce food with the fork and place it into the mouth with it upside down. :) I am wondering where using the curved side of the fork became a "thing," when the "dipped" side obviously holds food more easily, especially items like rice, corn, etc. Maybe I am missing something; perhaps only meat and foods that can be pierced go in with the fork upside down? There is more for me to learn! Myka is so refreshing; I look forward to treating myself to her book. Thank you for this interview, Jennifer.
I’m currently reading The Tao of Pooh. I feel that classmate with lipstick on her teeth and constantly smiling is a lot like Pooh in this philosophical book. Obviously, we don’t want to exude a faux pox, but life and happiness isn’t about worry or self consciousness. I worry and over plan and could learn something from the smiling girl with lipstick on her teeth
I really enjoyed this today! I can't help but wondering...wouldn't it be interesting to be a fly on the wall in a room with Jennifer, Myka and Nikki (Inspired by Nikki). .Would love to hear that conversation!
I never knew there was a name for how I eat in more formal settings! I couldn't even tell you where I picked it up, but I definitely default, almost unconsciously, to continental! I'm very happy to learn all this!
Oh my goodness,i have repeatedly been told 'where are you going' over the years, even though i have always dressed for the occasion. I like the suggested 'thank you' reply. I think because of the typical commentary i had received i learned to then feel bad when i'd be genuinely complimented, for fear of seeming conceited in some way. A simple 'thank you' really takes the awkwardness out of the situation by just being gracious. I like it! 💕
I had a stoke a year ago and my speech was greatly affected. I am a high school English teacher, and had to put on my big girl panties and just do it! The more I read, or talk, or teach, the more I improve. Also, I had a speech teacher who recorded me; that really did help. I must speak very closely - which is a good thing for a teacher!
Thanks for the teacup/coffeecup etiquette and the travel tips as well ; it was very informative. In terms of dining etiquette, I was raised in the formal way of holding knife & folk in right and left hands respectively, never switching the fork to the right hand. I have taught my children, who are pre-teen and teenage, that this is proper as well.
Hi Jennifer and Myka, What a wonderful interview! This is such great information. And Jennifer...I loved your story about your interaction with the shoes salesman. Too funny! Thanks for all you do and share. Love, Mary ❤️🤗❤️
Filler words are so true. It is a fear of silence. I've tried to consciously cut them out and I've realized (for me) I use them to fill silence. Our society is afraid of silence and those filler words become engrained.
I love this video so much! I thought I couldn't live without you Jennifer, but then you introduce Myka.... you make a fantastic duo, thank you for a lovely, fun and super helpful and informative video. Thank you both so much! Ok.... imoff to buy some books ladies 😍
This has been my favorite episode! Love, love, loved it! Half way thru your interview I paused the feed, went onto Amazon and ordered Myka's book. I started it yesterday, and I have so many issues! But I am facing them with confidence and humor! Thank you for this fantastic episode.
The lipliner trick really works. My mother lines and fills in her entire lip with pencil first and then puts lipstick on top. It stays on all day! She's been doing this forever.
Great video The finger lipstick trick 💄 is what I see many doing but a simple trick is use tissue. Fold the tissue, open your mouth then close it on the tissue. It’s easy and in those moments when you can’t wash your hands, you can just toss the tissue and go.
Just had to go and pick up a tea cup and a coffee cup. I was completely unaware that I held them differently, my British upbringing obviously subliminally taught me the difference. Also good to be educated that there is an American style of eating!
Jennifer and Myka, thank you so much for your collaboration! It was inspiring and fun! Next year my daughter and her family will be going to live in Italy for a year or two and have two children ages six and nine. They have already started to explore language and etiquette with the kids and this video is such a great trove of ideas! Where else can we go to help our children be great examples of respect and honor in a new country? Thanks again-I just purchased Myka’s book and am her new subscriber. I will never hold my teacup the same way now!
What a fun video ! Whilst I realised I've been holding my teacups incorrectly (like Jennifer), my knife and fork technique is UK ideal ! Best wishes from Australia.
America's former top international kidnapping negotiator, Chris Voss, contends that "all" people do not like to be asked "Why" questions. He recommends the "How" or "What" questions that you suggested. It seems like good manners/etiquette helps put others at ease.
I appreciate your Authenticity! Both of you. Refreshing to hear funny stories of the "Ultimate Mishaps." Once upon a time, I snuck out of bed and ran down the stairs to sneak a peak at a dinner party ...and I head-butted a waiter in the gut when rounding the corner and his tray of Champagne glasses flew off and forward and then landed on ball gowns of elegant ladies on the ballroom floor. ME. 😂 (A story my family has never forgotten...to remind me of...when talking/teaching "etiquette" and "manners").
Concluding: I had to readily emphasize it was my fault and acknowledge that I didn't do what I was told...so the waiter didn't lose his job. (For my mis-deed). And because my parents instilled that in me...I did just that ...and got the consequence of "getting out of bed" when told not to. And these are more valuable lessons in "etiquette" and "manners" in the end...while teaching kids to accept responsibility when things get off-kilter. 😉
I just bought the book yesterday and it came in today. I haven’t had a chance yet to start it, but it’s on my list. I’ll probably have the time to start it this weekend.
Maybaline makes a color stay lip it stays all day whether i eat or drink its in a square tube and they have so many colors. My favorite is called ruler
I do that “flipping “technique quite consciously. A comment I have had is “you have such lovely skin”and then giving me a whole body scan over and turning away! I always behave as though it was meant as a sincere compliment! You should see their face fall! One of the challenges that I find exasperating is from those family and friends that have known me a very long time who say “you don’t speak like that” as if I’m being fake! I have lived in numerous counties of uk, (states ) and three different countries, each of which has an accent and speech style, I have travelled, met people from across the world, why would my speech have stayed the same as it was as a teenager? I believe that people who say that to you are simply trying to force you back into the niche they themselves put you in, it isn’t about you, it’s about them!
Let's say you're at someone's home during tea time. What would be the proper etiquette in England for somebody who doesn't drink black tea? Is herbal tea an option, or is it offensive to ask for (would it be best not to drink anything than to ask for something different)?
Thank you for having me on!! You are the best. Lots of love & can’t wait to take you to tea at The Plaza soon xoxox
Thank you, Myka! It was such a pleasure. I can't wait to visit you at The Plaza one day! xx
I love your books and Instagram. I also have your online courses. Great to see you on this channel.
Jennifer and Myka, could the two of you maybe host a chic society tea at the plaza? I know many of the members including myself would love that! Just a thought.😊 Enjoyed this video so much.
Love your YT and Instagram Myka! I found you through Jennifer a year or so ago and I’ve learned so much.
I like to compliment someone by saying you look EXTRA beautiful today . . . . that way they know they always look beautiful!
Exactly! I say “ you look especially great today.”
My grandmother raised me to be a certain way and I was afraid that way died with her generation 😢. It’s cliche but finding Daily Connoisseur, I found my people ❤️

Two women I truly admire. Thank you Jennifer and Myka!
Thank you! ♥️

A chignon, sunglasses, and earrings work wonders .
So true!
At 69 years old, I never learned these things. I look forward to practicing with my granddaughter and daughter in law going to a formal tea sometime this year.
lovely.
You can practice at home too.
me too! I'm 57 and can't wait to learn and pass it on to my granddaughter!
I should have paid more attention to my grandmother! She was so wonderful in all these ways that I was too dumb to notice!!
I have noticed, most people never ask anything about me. They only care about themselves.
Yes!!!
All was forgotten as she brought us some beautiful desserts to end our dinner. Now we laugh and tell our tale in a light hearted way. 😀
That is so funny! haha
I can't even imagine!
I just know I’d eat all the cheese too. Cheese is my kryptonite.
Haha oh my gosh! That’s so funny and I’ve traveled in France and worked for a French Chef and I’ve never seen that ….but noted for the future.
😂 Definitely in America that would be unsanitary to share food between tables.
My mom always said "kill them with kindness!" This was great.
Rather than the words that were spoken,
your warmth and glee-
your delight in each others' company-
revealed the best model of etiquette one would do well to follow.
:) thank you
My two favorite ladies together. Heaven!
I'm so grateful to my (French) parents who taught my brothers and me the Savoir-Vivre at a very young age :) I knew a few things about the British etiquette but not the American so it was fun to watch this video. Oh what an unexpected treat finding this interview on a wet Saturday afternoon in the UK- lovely
Oh my that was fun. I taught my 4 children etiquette from a small book that the wife of The Archie comics series wrote and her husband illustrated it. Also I did the book of virtues for children. My kids still tease me about. That to this day but also thank me as it made them more self assured in many life situations.
Please do you mind to share the title of the book @RuthCowley
I can’t remember. Sorry. But there is the old book of virtues at bookstores .
Brava to you for teaching your children etiquette.
What a delightful conversation! Loved it! I'm reading Myka's book and really enjoying her style....who wouldn't want to take her course at the Plaza?
I feel like my two best friends just put out a video. So, just know that you both have a third friend with you in spirit... As you were speaking of how many similarities you have, and how much you enjoy all the mutual content, there was a person out there saying, "Me too, me too!!" :)
This video made my day- what you both do is so important, and it is valued by so many people!
This was a delightful interview and Ms. Meier has gained a new fan!
Not always
This was such a big treat! I love you both Jennifer and Myka! xo
Thank you for having your guest Jennifer
It’s seem etiquette is a loss art We need more of these classes and books that keep us up to date
When I was a teen in the 70 s growing up in Annapoils every girl I knew went to etiquette school
Of course we wanted to be invited to meet midshipmen at the Naval Academy which was not coed at the time
They only invited girls from certain neighborhoods and debutantes to meet them for tea
Anyway I want to know is it now acceptable that the man walks on the inside not outside ????
I didn’t realize I said um and uh so much until I had to witness in a criminal trial and was later shown the transcript, they record everything. The main reason I do it is that when we pause, someone always just jumps in and interrupts, including cross-examining attorneys. I need that book in my life, so grateful for content like this Jennifer, your channel is the best :D
Everyone should read Myka's book. It's so great!
It's nice how warm you guys are. And it's hard sometimes to feel good about yourself but I like how positive that you are about fake it till you make it...
My two favorite people!!! Great conversation ladies! I’ve learned so much from both of you and share your tips with people I know.
What a fun interview! I love her lighthearted and gracious manner!
I wish there was a LOVE button...this was so fun and interesting to watch. Thank you both so much. Buying the book.
I love Myka's book and Instagram! Thanks for interviewing her.
Jennifer, your makeup is so lovely in this video!
My two favorite teachers!! Oh this video is just fabulous and worth watching. I learn so many things from you both. May your lives be more enriched each day.
39:06 I busted out laughing, that's probably the silliest I've ever seen Mrs. Jennifer. You two had lots of fun. 😂❤
Wow, this was such a comforting conversation! I'm happy to know I'm not alone in feeling social anxiety and that the experiences of bettering yourself being met with resistance by people you know also being a common experience. Thank you, Myka and Jennifer.
I recently read this book. It has been such an inspiration to me on my up leveling journey. I enjoy both of you.

Jennifer', I like the way you talk and am not irritated by your occasional "you know" ; you sa!!y it just enough to sound natural and endearing!
I subbed and followed Myka on Instagram. I'm forever in need of refining my etiquette. I love your Rodeo Drive story. I had a similar experience when I saved to have my hair done there. Absolutely LOVED the book. Presented the content very well! Thank you for the suggestion.
Thank you both for this wonderful video!
How lovely and refreshing to experience as a viewer!
Thank you both for what you do!
What a great duo.Loved the video.Could you please do another together.Beautiful .

Great content! I will be watching it again with my teenage daughter! Thank you so much for helping us become mire knowledgeable on proper etiquette!❤️
I think exfoliating inside the lips helps prevent the dreaded “lipstick tooth”!
Can’t wait to watch this weekend! I always learn something new and valuable on your channel ❤️
Well, that interview was like a boost of caffeine on this Saturday morning-I’m so inspired!
I had a stoke a year ago and my speech was greatly affected. I am a high school English teacher, and had to put on my big girl panties and just do it!
I enjoyed this segment so much. I also bought Mika’s book on Kindle. Interesting about the tea cup.
Hi Jennifer and Myka, What a wonderful interview! This is such great information. And Jennifer...I loved your story about your interaction with the shoes salesman. Too funny! Thanks for all you do and share. Love, Mary ❤️🤗❤️
Thank you, Mary! I don't know what came over me, haha!
Ah what a treat to see both of you together!! This was lovely. ❤️
Filler words are so true. It is a fear of silence. I've tried to consciously cut them out and I've realized (for me) I use them to fill silence. Our society is afraid of silence and those filler words become engrained.
That was fun to watch and I picked up some good tips. Going to buy Myka’s book. Thank you, to both Myka and Jennifer, for the video.
I just finished reading the 3 Madam Chic books from you and now I want to get Myka's book. Such great advice.
I love Myka 🥰 So glad you two ladies collaborated 👏🏽
She is fabulous!
I love this video so much! I thought I couldn't live without you Jennifer, but then you introduce Myka.... you make a fantastic duo, thank you for a lovely, fun and super helpful and informative video. Thank you both so much! Ok.... imoff to buy some books ladies 😍
Loved this, cannot wait-ordering both books today!
Please interview Myka every week lol. This was so fun to watch!!
This has been my favorite episode! Love, love, loved it! Half way thru your interview I paused the feed, went onto Amazon and ordered Myka's book. I started it yesterday, and I have so many issues! But I am facing them with confidence and humor! Thank you for this fantastic episode.
Wonderful discussion. I have both of Myka's books. Thanks Jennifer and Myka!
This was so lovely Jennifer! What a great interview. I learned so much!
Love you both!! I think I've watched this 4-5 times. Two beautiful, classy women.
I absolutely loved this informative and entertaining video! Thank you Jennifer and Myka! Sending hugs from England ❤️
Thank you Jennifer! I enjoyed today’s interview. I was practicing along with you all on holding a coffee and tea cup correctly. 🫖💕
@@hurst-cs2jh Hello!
Thank you Jennifer for this interview with Myka. I will order her book right away! I have so many questions.
Thank you, Dickie!
This video was fabulous! You two had such great conversation - could have listened to you two for hours. I am getting this book soon.
Two ladies that I follows on social media! Amazing contents! Thank you both.
I haven't had a chance to read the book, but its right next to me. I'm excited to see all of it. Love etiquette!
Thank you for this video ladies! I found it very informative. I have ordered Myka’s book and cannot wait time dive in!
This was so much fun, informative and just a wonderful teaching session. Throughly enjoyed it Jennifer and Myka🌷😊💕
The lipliner trick really works. My mother lines and fills in her entire lip with pencil first and then puts lipstick on top. It stays on all day!
She's been doing this forever.
I find that lipstick tends to be short-lasting for me so I have used lip liner-as-lipstick for years as well. It really lasts!
Great video
The finger lipstick trick 💄 is what I see many doing but a simple trick is use tissue. Fold the tissue, open your mouth then close it on the tissue. It’s easy and in those moments when you can’t wash your hands, you can just toss the tissue and go.
That was such an enjoyable interview! Hope you have Myka on again 😊
Great conversation! Would you kindly share the info for headset you use?
I LOVE this interview w Myka!!! Thankyou for introducing me to her, this was fantasic!! I absolutely enjoyed listening!!
I second the lip liner trick, works like a charm!
What a fun video ! Whilst I realised I've been holding my teacups incorrectly (like Jennifer), my knife and fork technique is UK ideal ! Best wishes from Australia.
I love this video. Thx for the collab. Never knew of Myka before this video but I’ll be buying her book! TY!
Refreshing to hear funny stories of the "Ultimate Mishaps."
Once upon a time, I snuck out of bed and ran down the stairs to sneak a peak at a dinner party ...and I head-butted a waiter in the gut when rounding the corner and his tray of Champagne glasses flew off and forward and then landed on ball gowns of elegant ladies on the ballroom floor.
ME. 😂 (A story my family has never forgotten...to remind me of...when talking/teaching "etiquette" and "manners").
Concluding:
I had to readily emphasize it was my fault and acknowledge that I didn't do what I was told...so the waiter didn't lose his job. (For my mis-deed).
And because my parents instilled that in me...I did just that ...and got the consequence of "getting out of bed" when told not to.
And these are more valuable lessons in "etiquette" and "manners" in the end...while teaching kids to accept responsibility when things get off-kilter. 😉
This was the best! I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Awesome interview, thank you for sharing this.❤️
💐🌷💐 I have Myka's book and I have subscribed to her UA-cam channel. Love them both! Thanks for sharing. 🌷💐🌷
Let's say you're at someone's home during tea time. What would be the proper etiquette in England for somebody who doesn't drink black tea? Is herbal tea an option, or is it offensive to ask for (would it be best not to drink anything than to ask for something different)?
