  • Slavs, the largest ethnic and linguistic group in Europe, primarily inhabit eastern and southeastern Europe, with some extending into northern Asia and reaching the Pacific Ocean. The Slavic languages belong to the Indo-European family. Typically, Slavs are categorized into three main groups: East Slavs, including Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians; West Slavs, including Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, and Wends or Sorbs; and South Slavs, including Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, Slovenes, Macedonians, and Montenegrins. Bulgarians, although of mixed origin like the Hungarians, speak a Slavic language and are often considered part of the South Slavs.
