The reason why it got served, is because it flew way too close to the sun, with the micro-texturing and the original shape, just in black. I find dbrand to be highly intelligent and experienced people with a good sense of humour. Whenever I see a sponsored video on LTT, I know it’s gonna be fun.
I feel like the relationship between LTT and DBrand is that of a true friendship. They will rip at each other in the most jokingly brutal way, but as soon as one is in trouble there is no question of the others loyalty.

@RobertRagnarsson Sorry mate but the reviews LTT and other tech channels do on devices do not give you an idea of low long a device will last. LTT did a shining review on the Razor laptops that Linus himself got for all members of his staff and if you've been here long enough you know how that went. I have personally owned more laptops than I care to admit and one of the ones I had the most issues with was one that was highly regarded by LTT.
They can't. One is a "colored plates" while the other is phone model names. I remember reading somewhere that as long as the products are completely different, they can use that names kinda thing.

the rippling you saw at 6:50 looks more like jetting. Jetting is when the flow path is too thin which results in high orientation of the polymer chains during injection. This is typically seen around gate locations if the gate choice is soo small. The ripples are created from how the polymer chains shrink when cooling which results in a rippled surface. Since this doesn't look to be the gate location (Hard to see) D brand should be able to fix this by using a flow leader. ~source: I'm a Plastics Engineer
@@groundcontrol6876 there's no beef and the entire marketing behind it is that dbrand "doesn't care about what he says" and indirectly endorces him do talk like that. That sets them apart from all the other sponsors which in return leads to more talk around the brand (you and I are the best example right here). I've personally used dbrand skins for years now and can confidently say that they are phenomenal and worth their money. Some might disagree, but that's just my personal experience (whoever does dbrand's marketing seems like a psycho but is actually a genius)

DBrand really trolled to the next level with the binary message inside the plates, I personally think the PS5 looks cleaner with the plate change and makes the console looks more streamlined.

Honestly, I prefer the default plates (skinned mine in black from a different company), but I'd like for a company like Nyko to produce plates that give the PS5 a "rectangular" look, using the extra panel space to squeeze in filters and more airflow vents. Basically, something that makes it look almost like the PS4 or the PS2, with only the curved element of the middle panel breaking up the design.

With the textured inside being seen as potentially a ground with Sueing, it just feels like Sony is trying to legally Own Shapes at this point. I hate how that even has to be seen as something Viable for Sony to even do.
Imagine if a company makes a third party controller with the exact same shape as an xbox controller, they would get their asses sued. This is why third party controllers look different.

They could probably come up witch a scheme where they print a full code, then remove (melt away) a few certain characters from that code on each plate to produce unique combinations that are difficult to guess without having the specific plate. Definitely could be done without too too much work.
Why not, the burger I bought the other day when my brother and I went out to dinner together had a QR code for a discount on my next burger from that place. I thought it'd be more interesting if they seared the code into the bun but the wrapper was a nice touch.

I had their case for my S21 Ultra, and it was the best case I tried(bought 4 total) by far, and I now have the marble skin for the back of my Fold 3 and absolutely love it. Pricey stuff, but well made and clean asthetics.
Marketing! dBrand manage to pull of the edgy advertising that can be a fine line to balance, and that can only be made by few small players. And they do it really well.
Eh, I picked up the original dark plates and some skins. Their stuff was surprisingly nice. Having a retailer telling me to go fuck myself *before* I give them money... instead of after... was refreshing. That's the kind of market innovation I support!
Man he's totally right about the popped collar look. The original design looks so off but that perfectly describes it. With the dark plates, it makes the ps5 look so much nicer while still being unique.
Love this response from dbrand, that being said, definitely glad I got my set of dark plates ver. 1, I prefer the "popped collar" style especially given that I have it sideways.
This was calculated. Thats why the DarkPlates 2.0 was released within days of them receiving the C&D. And they are back-ordered as far as 6 months for the 2.0 plates.

Since 3 years having the same backglass sticker on my phone and it still looks great, absolutely great brand was worth getting all the customs work done to receive it in Romania.
I bought the plates and the light strips for the inside. Light strips do little to change the colour of the actual light, so it's still blue on startup, but when it switches to white, my purple strips make the difference and make the light purple. However now I can't see any light when it goes to orange for rest mode, unless the room is dark.
May actually get one of those because of the better ventilation. My room is white & grey (not grey & white) so i don't mind the white color at all but a dark color for it would be awesome. Something like a blue, red or green.
Moral of the story: If someone makes a thing for big corporation's product, big corporation will c&d that thing out of existence and will make an inferior version of it.
I have never been less interested in a console generation than this one, but this saga of Dbrand giving the middle finger to Sony is really heartwarming.

Anybody else seriously dislikes the way that fan grill looks like? I am not against it being there, but it just looks very "backside of a 90s beige PC" like. But I guess I am weird anyway, because I kinda like how PS5 looks like - especially the digital version, which is symmetrical.
I actually like the dbrand 2.0 plates and ordered a “retro grey” set. I was never fond of the “popped collar” look and I think the rounded 2.0 plates look fantastic.
I received my original dBrand dark plates the day before they were removed from their store. Really sad to see them go, they look amazing and wish people still had the option. I'm not a fan of the shape of the new ones.
Been waiting for someone to make plates contoured to the center section and add a cutout for the vent. So much better. Good on you dbrand for fixing sonys ugly design.
Only reason why I’ve always bought customizable things from dbrand is because they don’t give RATS about their marketing approach, and it’s phenomenal 😂 I prematurely bought the first version of darkplates (disc version) but ended up getting a digital console. Keeping them as a reminder of dbrands legacy
It annoys me that no one shows what these dbrand combinations look like when in a landscape orientation. They talk about getting the console to blend into a home theatre setup but never consider that one may put the PS5 in a TV cabinet

Did they? Sony released their own plates that are cheaper and have matching controllers to boot. I don't think Dbrand won at all. I think Sony just torpedoed their Dark Plates, unless DBrand decides to lower prices. I do like the DBrand rounded design a bit more but not the side vents.

These dark plates far exceed the value of what PlayStation offers for its own products in my opinion. I loved the petty jab back at Sony. The curved corners at the top is definitely a much needed addition. I think the vent holes improve the look. I'll be buying one if I ever can grab a PlayStation 5. F
I think dbrand should make the vent holes line up perfectly with the design of the metal vent on the inside. That way it perfectly covers it and also looks really nice.
I'm not personally into skins and customizations but I like what dbrand brings to people. These are things that you will never see officially offered by companies. There should be a law to for these kind of businesses.

Same here. The PS5 is easily the worst looking console Sony has ever made. I don't know why they went with this funky shape. It does not look "futuristic" or anything like that, if that was their intention. It's just awkward and annoying requires a little stand to be attach to properly sit on its side... and it still looks weird, even then.
@@DeathBringer769 I actually quite like the PS5 Digital. The symmetrical V is almost elegant, without the optical disk drive running the look. It's a much cleaner look. But the disc version looks seriously ugly.

Linus that warping is almost certainly poor mold ventilation. If it was the plastic not being cool enough you'd get an onion like look or even straight up streaks. (6 years in injection molding in the tool room working directly with engineers and processing technicians). Also I want flat plates to make the ps5 look like a box so it looks right sitting on its side.
Yea, flat sides would be nice on the PS5. I don't know why they decided to go with this funky shape. Were they under some delusions that it looked more "futuristic" that way? It's just dumb, and it requires you to put this little stand on it so it properly sits on its side. The stand is also included in the console, so it's not like that was even a business trick to get you to buy extra accessories either. It was just a weird ass "style" choice.

This is how the ps5 should’ve been designed IMO. sharper corners on the original panel in addition to white drawing more visual attention makes for a console that APPEARS much larger than the competitor. the rounded lines to fit the front plate are perfect and allow for better view of the light. Last piece is preference as some people enjoy the diffusion along the inner side of the white panels
Intro story about previous version of dark plates is for me proofs of how absurd patent law can be. I strongly believe that inventors need protection. Their innovations regardless of it is corporation behind them or (especially) if they are small company or private citizen. But when those are truly innovations. Not freaking shape. Not specific use of already existing product. Even if shape would be considered trade mark, unique feature that allows user to distinguish PS5 from other consoles then still, for me, dark plates are not way to confuse client, to allow pass other product as something that is PS5. Sadly smaller companies will often cave in under pressure of litigation. Not always because they are in wrong but because they are unwilling or unable to carry cost of it. And thanks to that also we as customers are loosing with them. And companies like Sony are incentivise to go on with their shity practices.
That's the way patents work. You'd be on Sony's side if they were the little guys with a patent on an original invention/design being ripped off by one of the big leagues. Unfortunately you have to have it both ways. Sony, like most tech companies based out of Japan, just doesn't handle these matters in the most tactful way and end up just creating bad press over something that they are in every legal right to do.

LTT did a shining review on the Razor laptops that Linus himself got for all members of his staff and if you've been here long enough you know how that went. I have personally owned more laptops than I care to admit and one of the ones I had the most issues with was one that was highly regarded by LTT.

the rippling you saw at 6:50 looks more like jetting. Jetting is when the flow path is too thin which results in high orientation of the polymer chains during injection. This is typically seen around gate locations if the gate choice is soo small. The ripples are created from how the polymer chains shrink when cooling which results in a rippled surface. I worked at ABC Plastics we did injection molding, Let me tell you humidity played a huge part on the way plastic formed when injected in the mold. I worked with ABS, Acrylic and Polystyrene
This was the best commercial Dbrand couldve gotten.
Honestly, I prefer the default plates (skinned mine in black from a different company), but I'd like for a company like Nyko to produce plates that give the PS5 a "rectangular" look, using the extra panel space to squeeze in filters and more airflow vents. Basically, something that makes it look almost like the PS4 or the PS2, with only the curved element of the middle panel breaking up the design.

They could probably come up witch a scheme where they print a full code, then remove (melt away) a few certain characters from that code on each plate to produce unique combinations that are difficult to guess without having the specific plate. Definitely could be done without too too much work.
Why not, the burger I bought the other day when my brother and I went out to dinner together had a QR code for a discount on my next burger from that place. I thought it'd be more interesting if they seared the code into the bun but the wrapper was a nice touch.

Thier skins are super nice
I had their case for my S21 Ultra, and it was the best case I tried(bought 4 total) by far, and I now have the marble skin for the back of my Fold 3 and absolutely love it. Pricey stuff, but well made and clean asthetics.
Marketing! dBrand manage to pull of the edgy advertising that can be a fine line to balance, and that can only be made by few small players. And they do it really well.
Eh, I picked up the original dark plates and some skins. Their stuff was surprisingly nice. Having a retailer telling me to go fuck myself *before* I give them money... instead of after... was refreshing. That's the kind of market innovation I support!

I bought the plates and the light strips for the inside. Light strips do little to change the colour of the actual light, so it's still blue on startup, but when it switches to white, my purple strips make the difference and make the light purple. However now I can't see any light when it goes to orange for rest mode, unless the room is dark.

Anybody else seriously dislikes the way that fan grill looks like? I am not against it being there, but it just looks very "backside of a 90s beige PC" like. But I guess I am weird anyway, because I kinda like how PS5 looks like - especially the digital version, which is symmetrical.

I received my original dBrand dark plates the day before they were removed from their store. Really sad to see them go, they look amazing and wish people still had the option. I'm not a fan of the shape of the new ones.

Only reason why I’ve always bought customizable things from dbrand is because they don’t give RATS about their marketing approach, and it’s phenomenal 😂 I prematurely bought the first version of darkplates (disc version) but ended up getting a digital console. Keeping them as a reminder of dbrands legacy

Did they? Sony released their own plates that are cheaper and have matching controllers to boot. I don't think Dbrand won at all. I think Sony just torpedoed their Dark Plates, unless DBrand decides to lower prices. I do like the DBrand rounded design a bit more but not the side vents.

These dark plates far exceed the value of what PlayStation offers for its own products in my opinion. I loved the petty jab back at Sony. The curved corners at the top is definitely a much needed addition. I think the vent holes improve the look. I'll be buying one if I ever can grab a PlayStation 5. F
I think dbrand should make the vent holes line up perfectly with the design of the metal vent on the inside.
That way it perfectly covers it and also looks really nice.

I'm not personally into skins and customizations but I like what dbrand brings to people. These are things that you will never see officially offered by companies. There should be a law to for these kind of businesses.

Same here. The PS5 is easily the worst looking console Sony has ever made. I don't know why they went with this funky shape. It does not look "futuristic" or anything like that, if that was their intention. It's just awkward and annoying requires a little stand to be attach to properly sit on its side... and it still looks weird, even then.

Linus that warping is almost certainly poor mold ventilation. If it was the plastic not being cool enough you'd get an onion like look or even straight up streaks.

Yea, flat sides would be nice on the PS5. I don't know why they decided to go with this funky shape. Were they under some delusions that it looked more "futuristic" that way? It's just dumb, and it requires you to put this little stand on it so it properly sits on its side. The stand is also included in the console, so it's not like that was even a business trick to get you to buy extra accessories either. It was just a weird ass "style" choice.

This is how the ps5 should’ve been designed IMO. sharper corners on the original panel in addition to white drawing more visual attention makes for a console that APPEARS much larger than the competitor. the rounded lines to fit the front plate are perfect and allow for better view of the light. Last piece is preference as some people enjoy the diffusion along the inner side of the white panels

Funny how these plates actually give you the impression that it should of been like this from the start.
Intro story about previous version of dark plates is for me proofs of how absurd patent law can be.
I strongly believe that inventors need protection. Their innovations regardless of it is corporation behind them or (especially) if they are small company or private citizen.
But when those are truly innovations. Not freaking shape. Not specific use of already existing product.
Even if shape would be considered trade mark, unique feature that allows user to distinguish PS5 from other consoles then still, for me, dark plates are not way to confuse client, to allow pass other product as something that is PS5.
Sadly smaller companies will often cave in under pressure of litigation. Not always because they are in wrong but because they are unwilling or unable to carry cost of it. And thanks to that also we as customers are loosing with them. And companies like Sony are incentivise to go on with their shity practices.
Sony are far from shitty for protecting their IP. I'm glad they can crush these stupid fucking ripoffs.

That's the way patents work. You'd be on Sony's side if they were the little guys with a patent on an original invention/design being ripped off by one of the big leagues. Unfortunately you have to have it both ways. Sony, like most tech companies based out of Japan, just doesn't handle these matters in the most tactful way and end up just creating bad press over something that they are in every legal right to do.
