As someone who has made the 2x4 vs 2x6 mistake too many times: I stopped caring that 3d models looked like wood. In the designs 2x4 = green, 2x6= blue, 4x4 = red etc. definitely not a pro, just an amateur that can’t afford my mistakes
Smart man, super practical
I’m an engineer, I do the same thing on my work CAD models
@Nathan1Sixteen yeah, im an engineering student and have made too many mistakes not color coding😂
Great idea!
Just read through every single comment....dang.
John, congrats on the baby. God bless you and your family.
As for the video, Lou seems to be improving already in the past couple videos. Can't wait to see what he does in a year from now. Chris seems like he could use a leader in the shop.
Keep up the great work Team Malecki!
Congrats to you & Sara on your new arrival. Lou may be slower but he at least cared if there were problems.
Chris needs to be watched. Congratulations on the little one but I think you gained a child in your workshop as well.
Would it be possible to get Sam and Jordan back?
Yeah not gonna lie this isn’t watchable anymore, johns gotta go back to his roots
@@dawsss5743 agree
Don't mean to sound rude, and it pains me to say.....but I agree. Use to be one of my favorite channels.
what happened to them?
They moved on found diff jobs no bad blood just better opps
I have so many questions….. like why use maple plywood if you are covering it with laminate? Why do the inner torsion box pieces need holes in them? Why would you not make sure you set your tolerances right on the CNC? Like, I’m easily as amateur as these guys, but there are some seriously rookie moves going on in this one.
Great video, and well done lads, cracking effort keeping the ship afloat whilst Big J has some baby time… gotta say though, you boys don’t know how good you have it, using the phrase “hand cut” every time you don’t use a CNC machine is an absolute luxury 😂… I’m a site carpenter over in the uk, and I would definitely say that using a top end table saw and track saw does not count as “hand cutting”… poor little one man band workin outta van over hear would kill for these luxuries…. Hand cutting to me isn’t even using my circular saw, it’s when I sometimes have to get “ol’ rusty” out and physically do the back and forth motion to complete a cut… not often I’ll admit, most things are achievable with a mitre saw/ circular saw or jigsaw, but now and then ol rusty does make an appearance… not bustin balls either, just sittin here all jealous of that hella set up you got. Keep it up, but maybe tone it down when you’re making out how hard life can be without a CNC… got me weepin into my beer in the bath 😂
Congratulations to you and your wife on your new baby. Fun to watch the difference between a CNC build and a hand built one and how they both went about it and the mistakes they made and where honest about them that’s how you learn is from your mistakes
Chris seems a bit slack... I'm making a prediction that his time at the shop is limited, if *this* is his standard. Spends a whole lot of not caring about things he should have.
isn’t he on paternity leave?! he’s trying to focus on his brand new baby, he doesn’t have the capacity to worry about both, so he’s making priorities. and in my opinion, he chose the right thing, his kid over work.
@@nathanlloyd7206 John's the guy on paternity leave. Chris is the guy using the CNC.
@@nathanlloyd7206 He’s talking about Chris, not John.
I came to the comments to see if I was the on one who thought this! It seems like all I kept hearing is "I don't care" and that is NOT the way to become better at your job. I mean seriously, who in the hell just says out loud that they don't care about the tearout on BIRCH PLYWOOD?! He definitely lacks and self responsibility and definitely does not take pride in his work.
as a tip for cnc parts. if you make them slightly oversize. you line them all up against a straight edge use a bar clamp too hold them. then you can sand them all at once. over doing it 1 by 1 :)
Damn this tattoo guy cannot drive a screw
How do we get Sam and Jordan back?
Yea who are these randos
Did they get hurt 😢
The best part is Lou taking the time to build quality and help other guys.
The worst part is Chris' not-giving-a-darn about his quality or the people he works with.
The beauty part is the baby, godspeed with the family.
Poor John, he has so much work ahead of him with these two. At least he has a beautiful new baby to come home to.
Congrats on the new arrival!. Plywood in our area is now coming in at 97 in x 48 7/8 in. The thickness is also now exactly 3/4 in. All this post-Covid. I was building a cabinet and the plans assumed traditional plywood losses to cutting, so the new stock sizes threw me off for a bit. I'm not complaining.
Honestly I think it's impressive to be this imcompetent while having access to a $1m shop. A true lesson that money does not buy skill.
It drove me nuts to see when he was screwing the castors on and the legs weren't flush with the base. Good thing it's just shop tables I guess... haha
Chill dude… he has a video editor, a computer guy, and a laborer, having a carpenter battle.. it’s not that serious, the incompetence is supposed to be the entertainment.
Yeah hoping those are their shop tables, would not be amused to buy a table and find that split board from the screw that went in wonky.
@@Borge782 Yeah, chill dude. A man’s labor is just a reflection of his character. Who cares about doing a good job, right?
@@Borge782 if I had known that I would have continued waiting.
Chris doesn't seem to give a shit about the quality of work he is producing.
Not a single bit. It was driving me up the walls hearing about how much he doesn't care, refuses to take the extra step to ensure quality products, and he walked the drill off of the screw head like 4 times on one screw. Oh, and let's not forget about how HE wanted to go about with the 16" OC framing. I don't see him lasting very long if he doesn't change his outlook on his job. I'd be happy to come take his place and if I did, I guarantee that I'd definitely put more caution and care into my builds.
Exactly! Chris said" I'm not going to use glue on the torsion box just pin nails.
The glue is what provides the structural strength to a Torsion box.
This is definitely a video where John misses Sam and Jordan. And I’m only about halfway through
We were promised a "Traditional build" vs CNC, but that didn't come through in the video. The ONLY thing the CNC did was cut the torsion frame... not even the whole box. And it didn't even do that well since Chris had to re-do it all. So after "I don't care" Chris got a bunch of help and parts from Lou, he turned it into a different competition than what we were promised at the beginning. And then in the end... both tables were useless and had to be redesigned.
John is missing Sam so bad right now
Where is sam?
@@thecolonel2695 he quit
Probably tired of the hostile work environment John is putting on display to the world
Look at the beautifulness you've made...the baby not the tables. Congrats John & Sara!
If I lived near you, I’d come by and work for free ‘cause I love woodworking and working in your shop would be a blast, especially with tools you have. I’m a beginner, but take pride in what I do, and know I could have built a nicer product. They should have ripped the boards down to 2x4 given that’s how the plans were drawn up. The hand cut torsion box was well done by Lou, but too bad the openings were too small.
Sorry guys, but it sucks being the new guys. I prefer Sam and Jordan, but I grew up with them. Hopefully you guys will grow on us, but damn dude, you used a CNC and still jacked the bench up. Even though you built a somewhat simple workbench, take pride in your work product, no matter what it is. John takes pride in what his shop produces, well usually anyway, and I doubt he’ll keep someone around that doesn’t take pride in his work.
Well if you want to I got house that need rented and I know John personally and my brother was at his wedding
@@lorddiethorn I’d jump all over your offer, but I’m married to an angel who is the best woman on this planet and would be lost without her. Unfortunately, she’d never move away from where we currently live.
Congratulations on your beautiful new addition to the family. I hope Mama and baby are doing wonderful! Her name is beautiful too!
Congratulations... to the guys for actually finishing the tables. And oh yeah, the whole baby thing too, lol. May she have a long healthy happy life.
I would kill to have access to a shop like this with all these tools and these fools don't give a s#!t about craftsmanship, attention to detail (oh we got 2x6's instead of 2x4's so we will just keep building without adjusting the plans to compensate for the dimension difference, or better yet, go get the right wood), or pride in their work! I can't believe John isn't embarrassed to post this video. John, this is a reflection on the business you gave your blood and sweat building and if this is someone's first impression of the work you do....
I cannot agree with this post any more
The tables are complete butcher job. Reminds me of the neighbor that found a bunch of scrap wood from a house build to make a workbench.
Jordan is looking Jacked! I also don't remember him having so many tattoos.
Steroids do magical things
CNC cowboy must’ve came back from out west
Congrats on the new baby girl John. To me I feel like yeah it’s he CNC can be faster but the real benefit of it is that it can be doing one part of the job or another job altogether while you do something else
I guess that's two ways to put together those tables.
Why did it look harder than it should be?
Have to make sure you are building in a tolerance when you need to join tabs or inlays and such. Usually about. 015" tolerance and things will come together like butter.
Rough transition for John and viewers.
Some serious amateur shit right here.
No offense to Chris but Lou built a quality product and Chris....well...can you say high school wood shop fail? Lou for the win.
Congrats John on your new edition to your lovely family 👨👩👧👧
*addition
@@Ovaweightlova I mean edition works too. It’s the Malecki’s 4.0. Kinda like a software update 😂
@@jordanheider2662 😂😂😂
Good job Lou, had some pride in your work.
Bragging to the boss you finished first with a crappy build and no attention to detail isn't exactly smart Chris.
Beginner for the win.
I personally think it’s time for ziprecruiter; it’s not that things aren’t the same, that’s understood. Just too little flow and balance; it all feels glib 😞
AWWWW - Grace is so cute! Congratulations! This is a nice beginner workbench and a nice upgrade from the one I made a couple out of 2x4's and plywood. Definitely worth building when I'm ready to replace it.
No offense, New guys are def not sam & jordan...Lou is okay. Congrats John on the baby :)
these videos are getting tough to get through man.
I agree
John, congratulations to you and Sara on the new addition to the family. Another fun video and was also educational.
Congratulations on Grace’s arrival, hope mom is doing well too ❤ have a Blessed Easter 🙏♥️
Not a fan of the new guys, they are clearly acting and things don’t seem genuine like the other guys
What happend? I know the 1 guy left when they got the big fancy new vacuum system but then everyone just up and left too recently?
My personal philosophy is that oil is cheaper than an engine! Even if the oil isn't at 100% service life it's always inexpensive to change. I don't go over 6-7k miles like you. Good video!!
Chris isn’t going to last… 😬
Y’all should do another one where the CNC one was made entirely out of CNC cut materials rather than just the drawers. It would show the differences of man vs machine
Everyone is being a bit harsh on the new guys. Give them some time. It can be awkward being on camera at first, and I think a lot of us forget how crappy some of our early work was. Ideally a year from now they will have learned a lot and have their standards a bit higher, even for a beginner. If it's a video about teaching, you really should teach how to do something correctly... that's my only advice. Also, the old format of one after the other was much easier to follow.
Thank you, it's disheartening seeing these negative comments, which, unfortunately i agree with a few of them. But they don't have the experience that John or even Sam and Jordan have. They said themselves that it turned into a competition, and it kinda was from the start, ie. CNC vs hand tools. I love building things and have built many structures for theatre in high school. That being said, I made mistakes and I'm sure with a camera on me and another guy building the same thing in a limited amount of time, it wouldn't be perfect. But with enough time I could make something truly great. It's the same for them. But they have access to good tools and great knowledge from John, so I'm sure in a few months they'll get a lot better. I see this video as a fun little competition project where we can see where they're at and laugh a little. I'm sure John wasn't that upset either considering they're shop tables and he wasn't present. They did a decent job regardless
As a somewhat competent woodworker, either the plans were shit or their ability was. There is so much wasted space and way too long drill bits for top drilling as well as the lack of countersinking. I would also incorporate pocket screws (if necessary, and it looked as though it needs it). Also, who are these guys?
congratulations to you and Sara on the new addition to the family
Haven't watched the channel in a while so I have no clue who this new trio of jabronis are. They don't hold a candle to Sam and Jordan.
If the CNC was used properly it would be way faster. It can run a lot faster and you always want to undersized joins by .2mm well done guys. Couldn't have done better myself at that exp lvl though.😊
This was like how my mates back in the day had to choose some kind of education "Oh well, I'll do wood & construction", dont give a damn and laughed the whole time instead of doing it with passion... sad times
Lou is the true craftsman.
I typically watch all of your videos start to finish. I struggled to get half way through this one. Not really a fan of the new crew. Maybe they'll grow on me in the future. Hopefully these videos get better. You're competing with with so much content from so many people it's not going to be hard for people to just go elsewhere.
I haven't watched a video since...
John looks like your newish team is coming together. Leadership is always key! Congratulations on the new arrival. Looking forward to seeing some of the changes down the road. If I may offer-or say one thing. Filming while driving may give you some good B footage. I understand you are more than capable of driving a car. When “poop hits the fan” as it sometimes does! The error or even errors may not be yours. Yet, the the outcome is still the same. BAD, BAD or even worse. My good friend of 34 years was killed by a texting and driving person. Four blocks from his house. Four blocks. Both cars destroyed. There were passengers injured really bad. The driver, texting- walked away with no injuries. Not sure of legal implications yet. I’m sure your lovely wife and two children would want dare I say demand better of you. Again, congratulations on the new addition to the family. Didn’t mean to come off offensive.
John congratulations on the little one let's just hope she gets Sarah's looks. Gotta say think Lou's was nicer and must say think u gonna have to keep eye on Chris I quote"don't care about tear out" and to be fair think would have been more approachable to us if they were 2 hand builds cause not all have CNC 😮
👍🏴
Congratulations on the little one!
‘Did I cut them to the perfect dimension? Yep, I’ll have to do a little bit of sanding’. Bro, that was a solid 1/8” over width there. ‘A little sanding’ is a gross understatement.
In that hour and a half you spent setting that up, you didn’t think to double check all your measurements?
At every step he failed to make a successful decision and end up with a build that’s better than even my 6 year old could have come up with.
John, I started watching your videos because I liked that you had started on a career as a football player and then later decided to transition to something else.
I really like watching you grow in your skills and your abilities.
I hate to say it but probably the worst mistake you can make is hire people out of expediency rather than looking at their true skills and abilities and work ethic.
The people you have covering down while you're on maternity leave frankly I think are going to drag your business down.
And this is what happens when you loose Jordan and Sam
Congratulations on the new arrival! I know all things must change, but Jordan and Sam knew how to make content in your absence! These guys are not quite up to speed yet! That cnc noise almost made me not watch. Never heard that like that in your videos before. But who am I to judge, it takes me months to put out a video! But it's not my job either! Again Congratulations on the new addition!
John, you better not take any more time off...
Or install a nanny cam...
For the shop.
Congratulations on the safe arrival of Grace!! Tables looked fun too :)
Amateur hour, too lazy to cut down 2x6 to maintain the dimensions of the original plan
Would love to see some conceal carry furniture. Stuff like night stands or American flag wall hanging shelves. You guys are great!
I really enjoy Sunday mornings, coffee, and a Malecki video.
Congrats on the new bubs. Fatherhood is the best. Wonder if she will slow down your woodwork like my boys do for me ha
Congratulations on new baby!!!

The guys are great.
I want a CNC!! And I'm an older lady! Lol
Gonna try using slats/barriers next time I use contact cement. In hindsight it should have been obvious, but somehow didn't occur to me. 😅 Thanks for the tip!

I miss Jordan. 😔
Congratz on the new baby! Looks adorable :)
Congrats John, she is so adorable!!!
I hate to say it but this aren't Jordan or Sam and they really let the channel down with there crappy workmanship. Sadly disappointed 👎👎

Congratulations on your baby!
congrats on the family addition
Congratulations Mr Malecki, and to your wife who did 99.5 % of the work! Thank you for the videos and have a great time with the baby!
Hi John and crew, great channel! I just found it a couple of weeks ago and have devoured your content! Would you be willing to do a couple of videos on how to improve the build quality of starter furniture like you'd find at IKEA or some of the other stores? Not everyone has a place to build especially if you're just starting out in an apartment and don't have a lot of disposable cash on hand. Just a thought. Keep up the great work and congrats on the new little one!
Congrats John, she is adorable
Idk who the frick Sam and Jorden are but I like you’re little crew! I like the different personalities of everyone! A slow working perfectionist and a quick squirrelly go to town kind of guy!
Best intro to a video ever 🥰 what a cutie pie!! Lmao I thought you were going to build the tables and race them to see which went faster 😅
Congrats on the new baby John!
This channel should be renamed "Plan B" *laughing face*. I love the style of these videos. Makes me smile!
3rd random bloke pops up and starts explaining what we already know. I'm out after 4 mins 😴
Welcome baby Grace!
Congratulations. I hope you practiced not sleeping for 6 months - and it’s worth every sleepless moment to be with your kid.
Thanks for the great content by the way
Oh Sam and Jordon why have you forsaken us?
Hey john, congrats to you and sara on your new arrival, but the two numpty's in the shop have to go, they make you look bad
That was a difficult watch.
CNC noise go Brrrrrrr
Spindle speed up. CNC is a happy piggy.
Excellent work, guys! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I really don't want to pile on here, but damn. This is just so full of beginner mistakes, and mistakes due to total lack of attention to detail. I hope they pick it up, because even though it's "only" shop equipment, you have to care enough about your builds to avoid making predictable mistakes. There will be enough mistakes due to unforeseen stuff.
Congratulation on your new baby. Love your videos.
Why not add the laminate before the CNC and get the dog holes cut in the same pass?
I agree I'm assuming they didn't because they face screwed the top down to the box then covered the screws with Lam but it doesn't explain why the none CNC one wasn't drilled after it was attached and Laminated.
Congrats John!
Another new baby?! Does John not have a TV in his house? Congrats buddy from across the pond
Love the 3 level challenge, keep them coming (if you can)
When John’s away, the squirrels will play.
Congratulations John!
Happy Easter John and the gang. Very nice job guys. Hopefully you get great use out of them for many years to come my friends. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends. Keep making. Stay squirrely. God bless.
Congratulations John! 🎉
Congrats to Grace, Johan and Sara!
