As both a programmer and a DIY carpenter, the thing I would love and benefit from the most would be a demonstration of the CAD designing process and how to convert those designs into cut list; I've always found it insanely intriguing to know how much material is required for a project without making a single cut.

All you had to do to align the holes on assembly was put a screw driver through the holes when it was lifted and guide it into place. Cool table build!

As a designer of the Southworth lift, I love it. Great work. I have a few ideas of a down draft table add-on. Tool holder add-on, power relocation to table top. Air hose location on the top and the vacuum clamps. Great start. great project. not a Sales person for Southworth, but knowing the catalog, did you see the vee top to hold round product? Did you see the tilter so you could lift and tilt large loads? We do design the LS product line for 6000lb everyday. As a previous manufacturing engineer who purchased the Southworth tables for a sheet metal shop. Modified everyone to hold large sheets and used them for welding tables after isolating the table top from the legs.

I built the ghetto version of this about 3 or 4 years ago. 3.5' x 7.5' plywood torsion box with a sacrificial 4 x 8 melamine top sitting on a Harbor Freight motorcycle lift. I went with melamine because I do a lot of projects with fiberglass and melamine with a coat of wax makes a good surface for that. Plus, when it gets banged up, for less than $50, I've got a brand new top.
I was originally going to extend the hydraulic foot pedals out but I never did. When I started using it I realized that I didn't raise and lower it very often so it wasn't a big deal to just get a foot under to pump the the cylinder up or hit the release.
It's not nearly as nice as a real lift table but it's also less that $500 for everything (or at least it was when I built it).

Not being a beginner today and owning like 6 routers myself if I had to do it all over again I'd like the second router I got to have been my first router. I got a Bosch POF 52 knock off. Look up what that is and get something like that. It's a great beginner tool. Or if you want to go hardcore right off the hop then get a 1/2" collet plunge router. Because that's where you're going to end up someday. That might be too much club for a beginner though.
