A simple photo…a beautiful painting!
Thank you!
Thanks again, Malcolm. I want to be like you when I grow up (I'm almost 83)!
😀 likewise Sandy
I really appreciate your teaching. Thank you.
It's a pleasure, thank you
Painting practice is fun, frustrating & hugely helpful
True!
Haha loved the piano cat! Thank you for another great demonstration.
😊 thank you!
Great demo….Practice, practice, practice ..so vital. Just need double the number of hours in the day. Loving your courses and getting braver by the hour !
Thank you Judith, your work is improving so much!
Thanks Malcolm. I love the idea of "scales" for painting. Its definitely something I am going to try out!
Excellent, thanks Ilmas
very simple and helpful Malcolm
Excellent, thank you
Thank you Malcolm. Can you please do an instructional video on how one should dispose and clean oil painting brushes/palette and any remaining oils ? I have heard that oils and thinners are toxic and should be disposed properly for environmental reasons. Thank you.
I really enjoy your lessons Malcom.Thank you!
Thank you Jana
❤❤❤
Thank you, I sure can use this type of practice. It makes so much sense, no pressure to try and paint a masterpiece, but maybe get a bit better to achieve it one day.
Exactly 💯
Ha, that would be six hours work for me. Great lesson, as always.
Thanks! 😃
It is really a good demo and it teaches me so much. I have watched it several times and every time I learned some more important things : The better I look at my surroundings , I think it's less complicated !! I like your demos !
Thank you, glad they help you.
Thank you, Malcolm! A great video, especially now, when I'm planning what I can paint on the cruise! I will do lots of studies!!!! No better way to learn about what fascinates you.😍❤❤❤
Exactly, enjoy 🚢
Thank you,Malcolm!
I feel that this type of practising would be really very useful for me.
I hate trying ,always start impatiently and want a definitive result as soon as possible.
Of course ,the result is not always good.
I'll start right now and I will not call it "trying" but "study"😀
That's the spirit Vesna!
Dear Malcom,. Thank you . I com back later.
This makes a lot more sense than my usual jumping right in and only painting what I think I see! Thank you for the tips!
Thank you Joanne
Super demo thank you!
My pleasure, thank you
I’m following your advice and paintwork, thank you
Thank you!
great demo ! thank you !
It's a pleasure!
Really lovely! and inspiring :)
Thank you!
Very helpful thanks
Thank you Adele
Thanks for the great idea. I definitely will try this
Thank you!
Excellent for me as I am always too quick to rush into my painting resulting in many fails!
yes, rushing is stressful for anything.
Thank you Malcom. I like your description of this phase in painting: testing out shapes, colors, brushwork and getting to know one's subject. Together with a few initial sketches/value studies this painting study phase encourages a more planned approach to painting. As always, I appreciate your valuable recommendations.
Thank you Humberto, glad you enjoyed it.
Muy interesante! Muchas gracias, siempre aprendo mucho con tus vídeos
Thank you!
This is such a great demo, thank you! I would love to see how you progress, with this study, to the next stage of a more finished painting. And, I'm almost finished your Painterly Landscape workshop - it has so much info and I'm really enjoying it.
Super! I hope to work out a large canvas from this study. More studies probably 😅
@@MalcolmDewey Hopefully we'll get to see the video as you paint.
@@MalcolmDewey Would love to see the large canvas painting and process of this!
I appreciate your guidance to give inspiration and direction. At the moment I go through a dryness may be because of the heat.
Yes, extremes are exhausting.
That looked like a lot more fun than playing scales! Love your bold strokes. Thank you for the video.
😁 it sure is, thanks Dana
Very helpful video, Malcolm. I do seem to jump right in to a final painting in my haste to create! Then try to resolve the issues in not the best manner. Thank you!🙏
Thanks Susan, I guess we all do that at times 😊
Your demo's always produce beautiful results.
Thank you, Malcolm for this inspirational demo! I learn a lot from your ideas, as usual!
Awesome, thank you!
Wonderful painting, I loved your choices and also the abstractness. I have quite a few of your courses very helpful.
Thank you Julie!
That is another wow lesson Malcolm, I learned a lot there again. What a fantastic way to fit in more painting practices in a given number of days. Many thanks for uploading.
I just had a quick question. If you were to do an actual plein air painting of the same scene, would you generally plan, to have the outdoor work look more/less finished than the type of painting study you just demonstrated?
Just so I can get an idea of how resolved, I would need to aim my own efforts towards, when attempting a painting outdoors.
Plein air can be planned well if you are in a calm environment. However in a tough one, like a windy beach, I will paint faster and do a loose study. It can get hectic at times so you take what you can get.
@@MalcolmDewey Thanks Malcolm for your insights, they are much appreciated.
Yes I see what you mean, outdoors painting all kinds of things happening as you mentioned weather, insects etc, outside of one's control. I guess, any reasonable result in those conditions, would be a win-win. Regards Andrew
Thank you Malcolm, this is such a lovely study, in my mind it looks like a finished painting😀 I consider all my paintings studies. When do you call it “Finished”? Is it the finer details that make it finished?
Yes, many layers and developing color richness. But does not guarantee success of course. Just gives direction.
Puede traducir? Gracias!
