Wow! That was even better than the VII REMAKE version!!! I mean… the glockenspiel part was better than the remake version. But man! Good stuff-really takes me back. And I loved that synth bass! Especially in the opening section. What a perfect touch that I think lends to the VII Midgar vibe really well. When Mr. Uematsu hears this, he’s gonna be soo jealous he didn’t think of it. Great orchestrations again, Mr. Warren! And there was some interesting things happening musically that I don’t think were in the original. There was one transition that seemed to do something interesting with the meter. 👌
Thank you, Mr. Warren! And yeah, I did the synth bass (and doubled the harp with synth) to lend a bit to the retro roots of the game, but that synth bass really did have a grungy sort of Midgar feel. :) Also, yes, I did play around with the meter, because in the original, there are these snare rim hits at that part that are accented every four 8th notes, and I really liked that interplay, but I didn't feel like it came across as a fun meter interplay in the original too much, so I really brought it out (maybe too much 😅). Now... what glockenspiel part were you referring to...?
Great transition from the opening theme to the bombing section. I didn't even notice! I just listened to the original opening theme and your rendition is amazing! Thank you for posting the video and i dig upgraded visuals, good choice. But how does that sword stick to his back???
Thanks! I probably should have spent a bit more time comparing different versions of this song, but I wanted to just try doing my own version from my head without listening to anything but the original. Also, the sword sticks to his back with magnets! He got some strong neodymium iron boron surgically implanted in his spine at the end of his training missions. He was injured due to not being able to put the sword down, and trying to hold onto a ledge with one hand, then fell... so they added the magnets. :)
