Thank you for this great information, Shawn. My retrofit windows were installed about a year ago and a few of the windows on exterior where caulk was placed, caulk is sticky. After one year why would that be. It certainly attracts dirt. I’m wondering what can I do to resolve this.
Some sealants use plasticizer (an additive that makes the sealant flexible). Over time, they will always migrate out of the product to the surface which will result in visible shiny spots and create a sticky surface for dirt to stick to.
I used phenoseal vinyl caulk for all my exterior windows and around the inside of trim to the j channels I put in, now I’m wondering if that was the right thing to do, I painted everything and it’s held up a year now, but this has me thinking maybe I used the wrong stuff??

Loctite PL Max is better than liquid nails
I noted water enter inside home through window border. Which caulky do you recommend me? Live in a constant rainy place
You can use most caulk for temporary plus a rubber you can really use any type of caulk
