This is so darkly disturbing now that he's passed. You can tell he was fighting them demons again & losing the game. Just breaks my heart. I hope he's finally found peace.
You should see one of Elliott Smiths later sets. There’s one in particular where he’s wearing a shirt that says “I love metal” that was truly a disturbing performance. Coincidentally? He died from two stab wounds to the heart. Supposedly self inflicted but… let’s just say I have my doubts.
I think this song is more about the downtrodden, those left behind by their worlds. Justin's seemed to be too much for him in some places, hence his expression mainly being harrowing, isolating tracks that hone in on his sadness. At this point he was adrift from his wife and daughter, back in habits that nearly killed him 20 years before this show. The best people always go before the worst and Justin's loss was cataclysmic to modern Americana.
Drugs are fucking evil. This guy truly had everything in the world to give. Just an absurdly talented man. This is 10x better than the album version honestly.
reading these comments, indeed I see the love but, by god, leave the fella in peace- I mean I think I get it... thankfully, I'm pretty sure he's at peace now, regardless of what any of us have to say RIP my dear
I'm a bad dream I'm not a nightmare, I'm too goody for that Let's just say I'm the last thing you wanna see coming I'm the reason they say watch your back For so long, I was like a wounded hound Backed into a chainlink fence The world at large was just a big, mean kid Poking me through the fence with a stick Ain't nobody goin' back It takes a whole lotta hurt Paralyze one of life's biggest lessons Ain't got nothing to do with dessert Just pray to the Saint of Lost Causes Now it's a cruel world But it ain't hard to understand You got your sheep, got your shepherds Got your wolves amongst men It can be hard to tell You might find a wolf in shepherd's clothes And now and then you're gonna find sheep In amongst all those troubled souls You know the folks that's most afraid of the wolf If you really stop and think Throughout time, between a wolf and a shepherd Who do you think has killed more sheep? Nah, there's nothing can be done It's just the way it goes First you get bad, then you get mean Then there's nothing left but to grow cold And pray to the Saint of Lost Causes Some will say I've got no feeling No heart, and surely no shame Truth is that this has been with me so long That I, I must admit I kinda like the pain How many encounters do you ever have But again, how many wolves you ever seen? You got about as much chance of seeing one of them As you do running into me Still take nothing for granted Might live on the best block in Beverly Hills Be sure you lock up tight at night 'Cause you know poor folks ain't got nothing to steal Just pray to the Saint of Lost Causes
Some of us got to see this man play his songs, and some didn't.

Darkly disturbing is your perception.
Not Mine

Darkly disturbing are the wrong words but I feel you.

Overwhelming music today is lacking this kind of intensity and authenticity...write from experience his daddy told him
He is the real deal. One of my new favorite songs and albums

Listened & thought of every single day Justin will be forever in my heart 💓💓💓
St Jude brought me here

A Real One. I will miss him. Sizzler of a guitar player
Good music man ! I. Was riding my motorcycle and this song
Came on pandora, so I had to check it out on UA-cam!
What a beautiful soul. Gone way too soon. I hope his Dad is feeling alright today.
such a damn sad loss; just heard he’s gone....
Rest easy Justin
Incredible
I'm a bad dream
I'm not a nightmare, I'm too goody for that
Let's just say I'm the last thing you wanna see coming
I'm the reason they say watch your back
For so long, I was like a wounded hound
Backed into a chainlink fence
The world at large was just a big, mean kid
Poking me through the fence with a stick
Ain't nobody goin' back
It takes a whole lotta hurt
Paralyze one of life's biggest lessons
Ain't got nothing to do with dessert
Just pray to the Saint of Lost Causes
Now it's a cruel world
But it ain't hard to understand
You got your sheep, got your shepherds
Got your wolves amongst men
It can be hard to tell
You might find a wolf in shepherd's clothes
And now and then you're gonna find sheep
In amongst all those troubled souls
You know the folks that's most afraid of the wolf
If you really stop and think
Throughout time, between a wolf and a shepherd
Who do you think has killed more sheep?
Nah, there's nothing can be done
It's just the way it goes
First you get bad, then you get mean
Then there's nothing left but to grow cold
And pray to the Saint of Lost Causes
Some will say I've got no feeling
No heart, and surely no shame
Truth is that this has been with me so long
That I, I must admit I kinda like the pain
How many encounters do you ever have
But again, how many wolves you ever seen?
You got about as much chance of seeing one of them
As you do running into me
Still take nothing for granted
Might live on the best block in Beverly Hills
Be sure you lock up tight at night
'Cause you know poor folks ain't got nothing to steal
Just pray to the Saint of Lost Causes
I'm a bad dream. Not a nightmare, I'm too *pretty* for that.
Rest in Paradise
Such a great performance of a powerful song. Bummed that he skipped over the "Who do you think has killed more sheep?" part, though. RIP JTE.
The kid has got it in him...deep down.
He's a legend.
Fantastic
Better version than the album
It's good but def not better than the album version
I agree. Album version sounds too processed, sounds more natural this way
RIP my man
Rest In Peace legend
Good stuff
❤️❤️❤️
He was definitely a Shepard.
RIP
His dad does a great version of this on the tribute album J.T.

Fucking badass
Anyone know what guitar he's playing these days? Long-time fan here. Keep it going!
Recording King
I think he is playing a harp in the heavens
He was a Recording King endorsed artist....
Who is? The saint of lost causes?
Saint Jude Thaddeus
Saint Anthony
Nice take, on your Dad's song, wow 😲
Justin’s song. Steve did a cover for his JT tribute album.
Steve is an amateur compared
He was angry
