So you can just leave the peat moss on top of the grass without raking in (to settle onto the seeds)?

Yes, no need to rake it in. The only thing to make sure is that it is applied at thickness (.25 to .5 of an inch) to make sure that there are grass blades poking through the application. The Peat Moss is simply there to do a few things: 1) Retain moisture, which will help the seed to germinate. 2) It helps to keep the birds from from making the seed a nice daytime snack 3) Adds organic material to soil composition as it breaks down and feeds the newly germinated seedlings. The peat moss will breakdown and you will barely see it after 7-14 days. I hope this helps. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

Seems like a tough job to bid and make money? What's the key to being profitable with the amount of man hours on these jobs? Thanks, bruce

Bruce, I apologize for the delayed response. I have been under the weather the last few days. To be quite frank, I do not do lawn renovations as a career and I have never charged for my time and labor on any of the "Help me fix my ugly lawn" projects. I have had them reimburse me for sprinkler parts and materials that I have been able to purchase with my discounted cost and then I pass along the savings to them, as I do insist on getting the best parts available to do the job right.
I only have two rules when I help someone with their renovation: 1) you have to be there working right alongside of me so that you learn how to "do it yourself" Hence why I classify my channel as a DIY channel. 2) That you "pay it forward" with what you have learned and help someone else. Now with the Ugly Lawn project that you are commenting on, Trent lives 3 hours (one way) from where I live, so he did fill my gas tank, as that expense probably would have made "mama Highlander" pretty pissed off!! LOL And he would feed me while I was there, which he wouldn't take no for an answer there. Any other man hours that were put in were done by his kids and their friends and on one occasion I brought 3 of my 5 kids out to help out.
I am sorry for the long explanation on that and I apologize that I am not able to fully answer your question as it was posed. I will say that Trent did ask me what I thought it would have cost for him to have someone come and do all that work for him. I told him that with just material (seed, fert, soil, etc, etc) and sprinkler parts for his 9500 sq ft lawn it was about $3000 with no markup that most charge, so maybe $4500-5K. Now parts usually account for about 30% of the cost and labor is the 65-70% of the remaining cost. So he would have been looking at between $12K -15K total to have it subbed out.
Thank you for your comment. I appreciate viewers like you!!
